Technology MarketFlutterwave- The Next Big Thing In Online Payment by benob(op): 11:01am On Sep 27, 2019
Flutterwave is a dream birthed by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Olugbenga Agboola founded 2014, which focused on helping businesses and banks build secure and seamless payment solutions for their customers across Africa done in its local currency. The ease which payments are being made on flutterwave is a dream come through in Africa tech.
It is important to note, Africa as a continent never had a universal means of payment before flutterwave, as only 3% of Africans had access to credit cards, with an expected statistics of half the world population is expected to happen in Africa, it is safe to flutterwave, could not have come at a better time. Although African leaders are committed to having an easy mode of transacting business with the newly signed African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCTA), flutterwave simple and effective payment solutions would make this agreement more than just “shaking of hands”.
Flutterwave products include Rave and Barter; Rave allows merchant accept global online payments from bank accounts, cards and USSD. It also has a mobile application. Payment through rave can be received either locally or globally, seamlessly and zero set up issues. Various upcoming and small scale businesses has adopted Flutterwave payment, Ozoz the brain behind Kitchen Butterfly had this to say
“In the early stages of my business, I didn’t have a business bank or a POS device. A majority of my customers preferred to pay with cash — I would say about 90% — and then the remaining 10% did on the spot bank transfers. The bank transfers were fine but I faced some value erosion from transfers that came in late or never came at all. — Ozoz recalls”
This was Ozoz review of Rave by flutterwave at the recently concluded Jollof festival held in Lagos, Nigeria on August 2019. Various other businesses have partnered with flutterwave as a means of payment for their goods and services,Megabet is one of them
Another product flutterwave offers id Barter, here user experience is designed to make life easier. This allows users to enjoy life and allow barter take care of spending money (utilities, bills, cable payments) and also sending and borrowing money. Barter allows for user to create a virtual card allowing for payments to be made on the online without needing to a physical card. This virtual card allows for the option to use a card without it being linked to your bank account and also offers more security
.
` And there is more, when you add your barter card to Uber (cab hailing platform), you get a guaranteed 0.5% cashback on every trip made. Also there is also the feature of requesting as low as 50naira and as high as 500,000naira,which would be sent to your barter account. This app gives so much freedom and has the ability for users to express themselves fully, you can get on the app by signing up on barter, It is also on google play and Ios store
There is also fly by flutterwave product, this was setup to ease transaction payments. for Nigerian students, patients and businesses, Flutterwave and flywire collaborated on this mode of payment, as Aboyeji rightly said, this partnership allows for investments in health and educational sector easy as it reduces the complexity and slowness with had been attributed which such transactions in time past.
Flutterwave established in 2016 has processed $2.5bn in payments, 100 million in transactions and has over 50 African banks on partnership with over 1200 developers working on improving services and also building the platform. It is also one of the leading Afican tech startups with $20 million raised in investments. There has also been a 550% growth in customer base Flutterwave for business (Rave) which has been made possible with existing partnership with customers. Flutterwave has also been licensed to process payment in United Kingdom and Zambia adding to the alreading growing list of countries with access to the Flutterwave payment system.

Some of the pros of flutterwave include a growing developer community in Africa(collaboration is encouraged), easy and seamless payment across Africa borders and some overseas countries, reduces unnecessary costs among individuals, easy integration of payments among individuals and business enterprises and most importantly, it improves payment performance metrics. It also has a zero setup free policy which makes small enterprises registration increase.
While there are pros in flutterwave, there are also some cons which can be worked on to improve services and increase customer participation and registration, some of this cons include; Network based failures, Absense of Point of Sales(POS) machines for small based businesses as most of their transactions are offline, Data collections are intrusive and brings about data theft concerns

Above all, Flutterwave is a remarkable and growing payment gateway and can easily be said as the biggest growing payment platform in Africa, seeing what it had achieved, just under three years. Online Payment has never been this easy and seamless, you can know more on flutterwave.
