KoiceReloaded: Condor is okay. Not great, I have issues with it but I won't ruin it for you. It's entertaining enough. You've already ruined it for me by labelling it okay after the encomiums you heaped on it. |

KoiceReloaded: Nope. Steering clear of Netflix's original movies atm. Their movies tend to suck. Let me follow your lead then and keep my distance from the film. Will start Condor today in the absence of good movies available. Hoping it'll be worth the hype. |

mekaprime: Skyscraper.. 5/10 Genre: Action SciFi
The movie would have gotten more ratings if not for some of its unrealistic scenes. SPOILER ALERT
OK, this particular scene were Dwayne Johnson jumps from the crane into the building really got me infuriated. That scene was very unrealistic even for a SciFi movie, this is a man with a parasitic limp, weighting at least 118kg, running through half of the crane length & taking the following into consideration: 1)The impact his 118kg body weight would have on the jump. 2)The distance btw the crane & the building. 3) The wind speed at that height 4) His parasitic limp slowing down his rate of acceleration...with all this parameters, he was able to make that jump, Hmm!! who are they kidding. Even those skillful hadcore parkour jumpers wouldn't make half that jump @ that height
Secondly, him scaling that wall at the 220th floor with nothing more than a duct tape & feeling very comfortable while performing the act was very unrealistic. I could remember when Tom cruise performed similar feat in GHOST PROTOCOL on 161th floor of the Burj khalifa building, he didn't do so with ease even with all his advanced gear, then someone performs a even greater feat, with nothing more than a rope and duct tape at that particular height, feeling at ease & more comfortable as ever..Hmm!!!, I give up. Spot on with your analysis, but most movies have unrealistic scenes, we just sorta enjoy it anyway. |

Oceans 8. 6/10.
With all the negative reviews I read prior to watching the movie, I'm surprised I ended up not disliking the movie. It's an okay movie even though it pales in comparison to its male counterparts. Even RiRi wasn't bad with her acting as well, she wasn't great either. It's understandable because her character was kinda laid back and didn't need to be active. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 8:00pm On Aug 24, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: True. The movie was just way too long, and it was like they couldn't decide which way to go with things. It wasn't a complex plot, so dragging it out didn't really help anything. On the horror aspect, I felt it wasn't a "classic" horror in the real sense of the word, more like a dark drama. One certainly can appreciate it more that way. Exactly my pet peeve with the movie. The movie was over two hours. 2 hours on a movie without any complex plot. |

KoiceReloaded: My cousin would like a word. Resides in Nigeria, but burns more data per month than I do in 3. It's very doable. Nigeria may have her problems, but she's no Somalia. It's not just about burning the MB, but being able have such unlimited access to those series and networks like Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Starz, etc. Nigeria might not be Somalia, but life in this country is a living hell for the non-elites. |

TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 6:03pm On Aug 24, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: Decent horror until the end. Didn't end satisfactorily. I feel like many decent horrors have this problem. Still, worth more than the below average rating you gave it. It's 6.5-ish, at least. Average, but improved. I gave it that low rating because the build-up to the main scary parts was quite long, over an hour, and Annie was irritatingly annoying with her incessant tearful pleas. |

KoiceReloaded: I don't remember ever saying I reside in Nigeria. You seem to have confused me with someone else.
Edit: Whoops! Apparently, I did. Awkward. Fact is, I was f**king with y'all. I was only being half-serious (I do have permanent residence in Lagos, and my goto network is Spectranet whenever I'm in Naija). None of you caught on, and in the end, it was just easier to keep it that way. LOL. I'd have given you a national honour if indeed you live permanently in Naija and was able to see so much series and movies like you'd seen. Even when you're fucking_ with us all, I still had my doubts because the voluminous movies and series you'd seen is surreal. |

Achilles100: Ah ah. It just felt off, that he resides in naija with his full sentences and grammar in explaining series.
Thanks Born, eagle eyed. LOL. The "full sentences and grammar" wasn't what made me doubt he lives in Naija, I've seen more grammar from Naija-based people, it's his huge CV of series he'd seen that planted that seed of doubt in me. One have to have constant light and easy access to quality unlimited Internet for one to have downloaded/streamed/watched such vast array of movies and series. |

Upgrade is a great movie with a high concept. The twist is nothing new. I saw it coming as a possibility.
After watching Repo men and inception, this twist was not surprising.
Also, with a higher budget, this movie could have been a blockbuster.
7/10 I honestly never saw it coming. The protagonist was different that of I, Robot's in the sense that in I, Robot, the twist came a little too early, but that of Upgrade came right at the ending scene. But I've seen worst twists in other movies, though. |

KoiceReloaded: There are people that love Tyler Perry movies like mad (looking at you, Ishilove). Acrimony may not have set the world alight, but for all intents and purpose, it was a commercial success. And considering that it only cost 20 millions after tax to produce and distribute, the generic content is a good value for money.
The director of Upgrade impressed the hell outa me that I had to look him up after the fact. He's a talented director that have an history of turning low-budget movies into blockbusters. His list of filmography include the original SAW (easily the best of the whole franchise), Dead Silence (One of the best horror of all time), Insideous chapter two and three. The dude has yet again made a strong case for himself with Upgrade, and is long overdue for a high-budget movie. With such incredible array of fantastic movies in his repertoire, I wonder why top movie production companies like 20 Century Fox, Universal Studios and co haven't signed him up to direct a high-budget movie. His Movie CV is damn impressive. |

Upgrade 7.8/10 The shocking twist at the end was the magnum opus of the movie. The whole build-up reached its crescendo with that shocking twist. fantastic plot. |

KoiceReloaded: I loved the way this movie wrapped up. Wasn’t something just for the shock value or cheap gimmick, but it actually tied everything together nicely, and felt like it was woven in perfectly. Even though I was peeved, I equally loved the way the movie ended. A typical Nollywood director would've found a way to give it a fairytale ending despite the twist at the ending. |

KoiceReloaded: 24 fitted the format like a glove. An event per season occurred in a day. Each episode = 1h. 24 episodes = 24 hours. Hence the name of the show, which is actually short for 24 hours. Yeah, I know. That series was my best series amongst the few I'd watched before GoT came and displaced it from the number 1. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Beorn: 5:29pm On Aug 20, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: Mid-season breaks don't occur in 10-13 episodic shows.
For context, a 13 episode season take 3 months and a week to conclude, and a 10 episode show take 2 months and 2 weeks to conclude. Thus, no break is required. Efficient.
Contrastingly, a standard full 24 episodes season usually pursued by the big Four networks should take 6 months to conclude if a mid-season break doesn't occur. But due to the fact that a 24 episode season is huge, a sabbatical period of 2 months is mandatory, and usually occur after a 3 months nonstop airage. Thus, a season that would have taken 6 months to conclude will instead take 8 months to conclude. A better half of a year just to finish airing a single season. And people wonder why I'm not a fan of that format.
I'd rather go with a 10-13 episode season, a format pursued by the premium cable services namely, HBO, Starz, Epix, Audience Network, CinemaX and Showtime. Basic cable services namely, FX, Paramount Network, TNT, TBS and Syfy. Streaming services namely, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and YouTube Red.
Or
3-10 episode per season peculiar to British shows and pursued by the BBC one to four, Channel 4, ITV, E4, and Sky Atlantic. Me too. The only series I can remember with long-ass episodes which is enthralling despite the excessive episodes, is 24. |

TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Beorn: 9:34am On Aug 20, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: Haha. Going on break is sometimes necessary. Long sessions call for time-outs, right? Hence, long seasons call for a little sabbatical every now and then, to recoup. But even TV shows of just 10 episodes can been seen going on those annoying mid-season breaks. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Beorn: 8:31pm On Aug 19, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: Exactly. The big Four News Networks namely, Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS along with basic cable services like AMC and USA network are the chief proponents of mid-season break. I mainly avoid their shows, with the notable exception of AMC (their shows have too much quality to be ignored), because of this. I always find myself asking of what use are the mid-season breaks when they must've shot all the scenes prior to the season airing. They probably derive special joy in frustrating viewers all in the name of keeping viewers in suspense. Nonsense!! |
