Crime / Re: 16-year-old Nigerian Girl Commits Suicide, After Suicidal Posts On Twitter by bespokeset: 12:10am On Nov 05, 2018
Okay. Never thought I'd write this. Like I do almost everyday I checked her TL today to find out she's committed suicide. Ibukun is one of the most intelligent 16 year old I've ever had the chance to interact with. She suffered from the challenges associated with sickle cell disease, borderline personality disorder and also suicidal. I personally had to go read up on BPD to know more about her situation. She had a morbid obsession about death and seemed to believe that was her way out of the misery of pain, psychiatric visits, drugs and medicines she was required to take etc. Many times I had tears in my eyes reading her tweets... how horrible she feared the night and the voices she was going to be hearing in her head etc. One minute she's a jolly good fellow the next she's lashing out but from what I found out it goes with the terrain of BPD. If it's true she's gone this way it's quite sad. I just hope she's found peace and become free from the constant pain she tweeted about. Once she tweeted that she was programmed for failure as she believed she didn't make the choice to have the sickle cell disease challenge. She was a realist almost to a fault and she could knock off your argument with one stroke of sarcasm.

Finally, for those castigating her in any way I pray you don't walk in her shoes. I am not a psychiatrist so couldn't help professionally but she made all the challenges she had real, voicing deep seated thoughts with both hands holding onto the jugular of life asking why.... why...

Adieu Ibukun I hope you find peace and rest.

Bro you can check on kenya or rwanda air, they generally have shorter layovers.

Then cross check emirates with all of this airlines, if the the difference for all of you is less than 100k, fly emirates and save your kids jet lag

I generally dont like Egypt air

If the difference was just about 100k I wouldn't be seeking user experiences. The difference is between 300k to as much as 650k hence the consideration.

Thank you much.

Egypt air wey no dey share alchohol for flight? Did a combined (over) 14 hours flight with them and no beer! Needless to say i was awake for the bl**dy 14hrs. Needed the beer to induce sleep! Swore never to use them again!

@Op since you are about saving cost, go for it. The kids will be fine.

Hey man thank you so much.

Been off alcohol now for about 2 years and I don't miss it. So other in-flight entertainment might be an issue then as it can be boring on a long flight with nothing much to do. Thanks again.

I also considered Egypt Air in my last family holiday to Dubai in March this year.

I dropped the idea after asking for review from my friends who had used Egypt Air in the past. The review wasn't nice - no inflight entertainment (which I value for my kids), plus the stress of long layover with kids etc.

I had to drop the idea and opted for Etihad.

So I wont advise Egypt Air.

Coincidentally I actually thought about in-flight entertainment. Last time I flew Emirates it was rich, both food and video (music and films). In fact I was disappointed with Lufthansa through Frankfurt to Heathrow some weeks back.... food was bland and video entertainment was limited to fewer choices. Your advice against Egypt Air comes at variance with a few on here though but I'll consider.

Thank you much.

Well.. Times I have gone to Dubai, I Always Fly Qatar Airways. With a Stop over of Almost 7hours in Doha. They Won't provide Accommodation though. But you can briefly tour the city of Qatar, Visit places like Aljezera and the rest.
Hotels in Dubai: I usually Stay in Deira particularly Times Square hotel. Its on Almakthoum Hospital Road and treckable to Baniyar Square, Gold Souq, and A very Massive Mall called Alguair Mall.
Deira has its own Advantage. You will get cheap Nigerian Foods and get to see Our Nigerian Brothers in Thousands.you will really need to be careful with them. They don't have jobs so some can be Criminally Minded.
You will get to see private taxi operators. Private Cab is somehow an Haram in Dubai so Most of the Cabs are clean Government owned Cabs. At a fee
Metro is cheaper... You buy a One off ticket and cruise for the whole day.
Watch out for shopping deals.. Many of the Malls does Awuff around 10am in the Morning particularly Alguair Mall on Almakthoum super high way.
Phones are cheap on Nife Road.
Data is almost free.... Everywhere you go is an hotspot.
I usually play to the malls to connect WiFi.
Desert Safari is cheap too.. Ask them at your reception
What else oo? Call me 08067183075

Thank you much.

7 hours before connecting flight hanging around after a fairly long flight isn't good for my plans. As for where to stay, tour areas and transportation systems etc I do pretty much know my way around quite well. I don't like staying in Deira so it's not under consideration. Yes I also know how to keep a straight face with Nigerians trying to get you to come make purchases at 'my' shop which they don't own only to make commissions off you later.

Thanks once again.

Do that layover when travelling alone and don't punish your family because you're cutting cost

Thank you much for your advice.

I won't have sought some advice if I was traveling alone. I already mentioned that in a reply earlier. I do also know it's possible to have a not too stressful lay over, the culture peep and education comes as a bonus.

Thanks again.

I think you should talk to a travel agency, so they can help you plan your trip. Flight, accommodation, activities and all....

Thank you much.

I really do not need accommodation and activity plan on my behalf. I do know what and where for my destination. Im actually looking for best deals for air hop in view of budget and possible unfavorable lay over issues. Once again thank you.

We used Egypt air during our trip in August..the lay over time is not too much..accommodation is OK..we were 6adults and 2children and we had 4 rooms...the tour depends on the time of ur flight...we got in by 8pm..and before we got to the hotel it was abt 10pm..so it depends on ur flight time coz you have a day's visa in Egypt.
The most pleasing part was the food.....in our hotel we had a buffet..too much food..but we couldn't really sleep coz our flight was for 5.30am and the bus came around by 3am..
But coming back..we left Dubai by 5.30am and got to Egypt by 8am..and waited in the airport tii 10am for our flight to Abuja.

Thank you much for this Valid user experience.

I'm not discussing tour packages.... Your budget determines your flight na. To me, it's Emirates but if you are on a budget, fly Ethiopian airline for better convenience but i guess Egypt air will be cheaper.

Thank you much.

I have vacationed in several countries Dubai inclusive, I have also been to Rwanda for vacation via Rwanda airlines, Rwanda airlines is pocket friendly, not trying to discourage you, with the recent killing of a journalist in Saudi Arabia embassy in Turkey, I don't think I will step into any middle Eastern country again.

I know Dubai is different, I have been there a couple of times but I don't like anything Arabia again, the way they butchered Khashoggi in Istanbul is a big turn off to me, good luck with your trip to Dubai but you can use Rwanda airlines because it is pocket friendly

Now you've brought in a political dimension to it all. Well like they say... it's the thought that counts and I appreciate you for that whole heartedly. Will consider your options too.

Thank you much.

First off, u did the right thing by putting money in your business. Don't ever regret that.

I only used Egypt air once but no layover. Try to confirm if they will offer a hotel. I know Qatar does that n will feed u too.

If they don't, perhaps u can stay in one of those airport lounges. 300k difference is quite a lot for a few hours of "discomfort" it's not like d kids actually know what a layover is. Just tell them the pilot is taking a long time to refuel d jet. There is no sin in travelling on a budget.

Now you're the man.

You already gave me a story line.

Gracias.

I wish I could forget the lay over time but it's a consideration that's worth it all. You know that feeling you get on the return leg of the trip and you're wishing... why did I make this choice. That's the feeling I don't wanna have on the day before return.

Last year nov4 black Friday I got my ticket at 150k to dubai Rwandair, even Egyptair was 150k but I can't deal with the long layover in Cairo

Wow.... this is another angle. Will check this out too. Thank you so much.

That's one of my main concerns. If I was going alone like I've done many times before I can afford to take some risks. Hence I'm asking for experiences.

If you did check my original post you'd notice I was not looking for a tour package. I only asked for advice on choice of flight bearing in mind cost differentials between Egypt Air and Ethiopian Airlines on the backdrop of total flight time, lay over arrangements etc.

Thank you much for your advice.

I chose to seek valid experiences as I've learnt the gloss from service provider might be all rosy. A valid user will tell the hidden truths as this has been my experience.

Stay at home until your finances improve. Don't give yourself needless expenses.

Sometimes you don't wait till all is perfect. If that was the way I do things I wouldn't have ventured into the businesses I've started this year. I saw the opportunities they present and went for it. I also still wanna do this for my crew. It will happen.

Egypt air is okay. I used it once on a different route that was in 2015. They offer free hotel service if the stop over time at Cairo is much, I do not know if they still offer the service.

Wow... I'll need to cross check that as I thought it was on the table cos of the overlay before the final leg of the trip. For one thing though I know Ethiopian Airlines will put you up at a 3 star hotel and you head to the airport early the next morning.

Thank you much.

At a festive period like this, try Emirates, apart from great service and experience, if you are lucky you will get a free return ticket for one of you.

Meanwhile, i dont understand the point u mentioned difference of 300k.

Of course Emirates is numero uno on this route but like I said earlier Im trying to see if I can cut some cost here and there. The two airlines that present the opportunity are Egypt and Ethiopian Airlines. Cost savings could be as much as 600k for Egypt Air and over 300k for Ethiopian Airways. Yes there's the trade off of longer lay over between the two airlines. I am seeking any experience going through Cairo... the lay over time, accommodation arrangements by airline and if one could sneak in a brief city view. Addis Ababa isn't bad but I don't mind if I can trim the flight expense a bit further through the Cairo path.

Thank you for your heads up too.

I'd advice you suspend the trip and reschedule it when you'd have saved enough.

As a first-timer to Dubai, I'd also advice you fly Emirates.
It's quite hassle-free and in 7hours you're home and dry.

Considering your budget too.
Unless you want to stay in shabby hotels like Gold Plaza in Deira and using the metro lines or trekking with your family of 3 all through. You can't afford a quality memorable trip at this time of the year.

Thank you much for your advice.

Firstly, I am not a first timer to Dubai and in all my travels to Dubai I've never stayed in Deira or any shabby hotel. The only times I go to Deira is to shop there or sit out at Banyas Square in the evenings to just watch the drama when I don't have much to do.Furthermore I do know the sites my crew will find interesting and know my way around too quite well.

Secondly, Im just seeking ways to cut down on my budget and make savings which is not a bad idea. School fees, and huge ones too, await my arrival.

Thirdly in all my travels to other countries I've only done a lay over flight once which I didn't enjoy cos the first leg was over night and so bag slugging over multiple gate searches isn't a plus.

Finally, I asked for an experience through Cairo using Egypt Air to help me in my decision making.

Thanks once again.

I promised my family of 3 an Xmas holiday in Dubai this year. Over the course of the year I have however gone into some new ventures / side hustles which has eaten deep into my reserves and I'll only be able to afford a shoe string budget holiday in the UAE. Now one of my areas of saving cost is flight expenses. The lowest rates I see available are through Egyptair followed by Ethiopian airways. Both with one stop in Cairo and Addis Ababa recepectively.

Although the Egyptian airline flight time is longer but it presents a price differential of over 300k from Ethiopian Airways. I am seeking any experience going via Cairo to Dubai in terms of flight experience and lay over time. Is the savings worth the hassle? Your advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
