Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has inaugurated a nine-man committee, chaired by the legal luminary, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), to examine the possibility of establishing an airport in the state. He said his administration is committed to the transport sector as a key area in the state’s development. The governor said his administration has invested heavily in road construction and rehabilitation in the 16 local government areas to drive home its commitment to the development of the transport sector. Dr. Fayemi said the proposed airport would bring Ekiti State into the limelight with its emerging economy and attract investors as well as tourists, who have flair for comfort. He noted that though the establishment of an airport would require a lot of money, the state government, through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, would accomplish the task. The governor said the airport has become necessary as the Federal Government is establishing an Export Conditioning Centre and a silo in the state while the Ikogosi Resort would also attract many visitors and tourists. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Olayinka Oyebode, listed the terms of reference of the committee as: examining the viability and feasibility of an airport in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, and proposing a practical implementation roadmap for same. Fayemi was optimistic that when the Ikogosi Resort becomes functional, the proposed airport would market it. A South African hotel management group has agreed to manage the resort for the government. Babalola described the inauguration as “historic in the history of Ekiti State”. He noted that the project is dear to members of the committee. The eminent lawyer tied the lack of industries in the state and the failure of the take-off of the Ikogosi Resort to the absence of an airport. “There is an urgent need for meaningful industrial development in Ekiti by involving foreign developers from China, Europe, Japan, the Middle East and America. Any foreigner who comes to Ekiti with the intention of establishing an industry and who comes through Lagos by road to Ado-Ekiti or from Abuja by road, otherwise called the death traps, would never come back to Ekiti,” he said. Other members of the committee are: Sir Remi Omotoso, Afolabi Esan, Segun Ologunleko, Femi Tolani, Kayode Jegede, Babajide Arowosafe, Jide Adeniji and Capt. Bolaji Agbelusi. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/45143-afe-babalola-heads-panel-on-ekiti-airport.html |
OP take note. Its beware of going to Imo state and not SE. |
Hmmmmmmm Its should have been beware of imo state and not SE. OP take note. Where is Abagworo to come and clear this argument and further defend this mess ![]() |
Am sure these are old pictures of Onitsha, because I visit Onitsha from PH for shopping at least twice in a month. I have noticed tremendous infrastructural growth in the city following the commissioning of UN Masterplan. This is a welcome infrastructural development. |
Clueless and Yoruba clowns masquerading as leaders. lmao This one na shop abi na kiosk? Hahahaha Everybody has know that Fashola criminality = Tinubo criminality |
There you got it wrong. The great Zik represents the symbol of freedom, symbol of true nationalism, the symbol of loving one another no matter where you come from, as against tribal and sectional leaders as Ahmadu and Awolowa. This is the singular reason the great Zik towered over and above others (Ahmadu and Awo). Zik has no equals as far as Africa and Nigeria is concerned. |
Abagworo: O boy STFU! and show us pictures of Onitsha. It is disgusting to mention Onitsha alongside Owerri or Port Harcourt because it is uninhabitable for sane folks like myself.b What do you think that made you sane? You can say all the nonsense but cannot take away the fact that only Onitsha can be compared to PH economically in the whole of eastern region I bet you there are more imo indegines living and doing there business in Onitsha than there are other SE Igbos. If you doubt me go to the Drug Market @ Head Bridge. 95% of merchants in that market alone are all imo citizens. Please go and confirm it now. However it is stupid and maddening to start the comparison of PH and small locked Owerre. My arguement is that PH, Onitsha and logos has similar things in common (Big markets, Sea/River Ports and rich population), and above all they major and only metropolitan Nigerian cities. You cannot beginnig to classify owerre in that line because owerre is more like a local town only inhabited by imo people, infact you cannot find Anambra or Enugu citizens nor easterners living in Owerre or any part of imo state because of its local and inclined nature. |
malaria: My dear posta, if u are luking 4 a town 2 make a living stay d Bleep away from O'twn.the only industry n o twn is.When I made that point they all called for my head, the only thing owerre and imo state has to offer the nation is harlotry and HIV. lol. I think the governor should be hold to explain the ugly way things has turned horribly bad in that imo state. Development is not all about painting of any available wall in the town just to score fake and make believe goal. Due to high level of unemployment, there girls are helping themselves out by harassing traveler passing thru the sodom and gomora called imo state. I will advice anybody to head for any economicalloy viable cities in Nigeria: PH, Lagos, and Onitsha. |
13volts: The only common features describing Owere is the abundance of Hotel. Jeez if that is the yardstick used to compare PHC and an Ashawo city then sorry for you guys. I ve not been to Owerri but I know PHC very well and I have to say PHC is really beautiful. They are gonna brand you chino. Everybody that stand against there huge false pictures of rotten owerre is chino. I dey laff in P-Town |
Theblessed: It's Port Harcourt, anytime!! More beautiful than Owerri, you can't compare! Also, it attracts International groups than Owerri would ever do besides, the black gold beehives are there to bring them all in so, how could anyone not see that! You can't compare, body!!!Thats the point, its an insult to oil state like PH to be compared to mushroom owerre with its cheap cheap hotels that has only prostitutes as the only thing to offer NIgeria. They have been calling me chino, don't worry soon they will brand you another chino on different ID. I like this guy chino, I like his spirit that he does not agree with you and always challenge you guys is the whole essence of life. Everybody must not be on same page with you all the time. You can fool some people sometimes with fake pictures but you cannot fool them all the time. One or two persons global and ejine coming with numerous IDs just to score a cheap goal about owerre which we all know is false is disheartening to say the least. |
Abagworo: I think Owerri rocks better than Enugu. There is no night life in Enugu. I always feel disappointed each time I go for a function in Enugu. The houses there are older too. The clubs are not full and the people there seem poor. PH is the master of groove while Owerri is our relaxation spot. People groove in Owerri and pop Rose and crys like PH. There is also a tendency to see more flashy cars in Owerri than PH.You must be an eddiotic for saying that. PH has it all, owerre for all I know can boast of high level of commercial sex workers, even as am typing this some IMSU girls just stormed our location at relaxation spot @ Casablanca. The flashy cars are not residents of owerre because there is no economic reason for such calibar of people to stay in small owerre, they just entered friday evening to lift cheap imo girls back same day back to my PH to share them to people around here. That is true ask your brothers here in PH they will confirm that imo state has the highest exportation of women harlot.a/s/s. I think the governor should be blamed for this deadly ill. |
Freaking eddiot called ejine, your frustration has overtaken you to the extent that you are now calling me chino. There is nobody on NL that does not know that am from Omoku in Rivers state. Maybe this chino has really murdered you on NL, because you dream about this guy/girl every minute you spend on NL. The fear of chino is the beginning of wisdom for ejine lol. Yea I read where Onlytruth and Chino linched you on NL. ![]() If I may ask what is your frustration and fear about Anambra and Peter Obi. You go about spewing rubbish and fake news about other people's state while your home state is in tetters, kidnapping infested and ungovernable. maybe an Anambra girl frustrated and dumped you poor nigger; who knows. ![]() As for me I prefer a state like River, Lagos and Anambra where development is evenly spread than a small locked up land called owerre. Its an insult to the sensibility of we Rivers people for us to be compared with harlotry infested owerre and imo state. We are having swell time @ Casablanca. ![]() |
PH for life. Owerre = Prostitutes and harlotry, that is the only economic activity in that back yard town with their cheap and harlot infested dirty hotels ![]() |
Some eddiots just opened a thread just to back-bite and talk down on Anambra, even without thorough research as has been established by Eze Onlytruth. I make bold to say that Anambra is the most economically viable state in the Southern Nigeria after Lagos and Rivers. |
Ejiné: Fool why not go and face your talkative governor |
GBAM |
Onlytruth: Okay, let me say my own now.You have said it all. Approved, matter closed. Infact with the rate Awka is going, it will soon over take some of the few states presently ahead of it. |
Was it the same Awoalowoa who was a suicide ![]() |
I think development is in many phases. If you one is talking about physical development then Awka is up there, I say this because Awka has some of best most modern real estate development; this is evident with red, blue and green roofs adorning the city from Udoka to Abuja to Ngozika estates all in Awka. In terms of road network Awka as developing state capital is definitely ahead of its peers. Again hospitality in Awka is second to none, its a city with more hotels than there are residential apartments. The man claiming to be from Awka maybe a political enemy for all I know, who is bent on pulling the government down. Maybe some of you have not been to Awka recently, because the level of physical and infrastructural development I saw the last time was overwhelming. The city is very fast in its development and urbanization. I was in Asaba for instance I could hardly traverse through the town because most of the roads within the town is heavily flooded, except for the Onitsha-Benin expressway. |
The police in Ondo State said on Wednesday that nine persons, including a 65-year-old man, had been arrested for armed robbery. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sani Magaji, also said nine exotic cars were recovered from a gang of kidnappers who allegedly confessed they had terrorised the people of Ondo, Delta and Rivers states. Magaji added that N3.3m was recovered from the gang which he alleged robbed a bank in Ore last month. According to Magaji, the 65-year-old man, Isaac Suleiman, his son, Seun, and two others were arrested in connection with various robberies in Akungba-Akoko. Suleiman, who claimed to be a night guard, denied being an armed robber. However, he admitted that his son gave his gun to a friend, Mr. Kayode Ariyo, believed to be a notorious armed robber. Ariyo confessed to our correspondent that he became an armed robber because he had nobody to take care of him Magaji claimed the suspects had on them, locally made pistols, AK 49 rifles, one mask and one HP laptop. The commissioner said a 419 syndicate in the state was also smashed. He added that no fewer than 11 exotic cars, ammunition and charms were recovered from the suspects at their hide-out in Port Harcourt. Magaji said one Ogenekwweh Igagah, the leader of the syndicate, was arrested, adding that the gang had been collecting ransom from their victims. He said they also robbed their victims at gunpoint and later sold the cars at cheaper rates to a car dealer based in Port Harcourt. The vehicles recovered from the suspects included one Toyota Avensis belonging to the Ekiti State Government, one black Infinity Jeep, one Toyota Sienna Honda Accord, Toyota Camry – 2003 model, two Toyota Camry – 2000 model, one Toyota Corolla and one Honda Pilot Jeep. He also said one Mercedes Benz 190, one Honda car with number plate Rivers ET 726 PHC, five AK 49 riffles with 11 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the robbers. Magaji added that the command on October 21 arrested one Funso Ajewole, who was alleged to have duped his victim of N78,000. He said the arrest led to Ajewole’s arrest of Messrs Ayeni Kehinde, Segun Akinola and Gabriel Adeniyi. http://www.punchng.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=3351:father-son-arrested-for-robbery&Itemid=542 |
From the Senate came the gloomy news yesterday that the financial accounts of 27 states are in the red as some of them have been declared either “distressed” or “gloomy.” Only Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra and Jigawa states were given a clean bill of health. The six states that are in financial distress are: Kano, Sokoto, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina and Osun. Those deemed critical are: Ekiti, Plateau, Benue, Edo, Borno, Adamawa, Cross River, Enugu, Taraba, Ogun, Kogi, Yobe, Ebonyi, Ondo and Kaduna. In the unhealthy cadre are: Oyo, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Nasarawa, Gombe and Rivers while Imo, Kwara, Lagos, Kebbi and Delta were given the ‘tolerable’ tag. The data was sourced from the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) Labour Policy Report, 2011 as contained in a motion titled: Looming danger of bankruptcy in states: The need for fiscal evaluation, sponsored by Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (ACN, Ekiti North). To forestall the looming catastrophe, the Senate advised the Federal Government to expeditiously review the revenue sharing formula in favour of states and local governments. The Upper Legislative Chamber also directed its Committees on Finance, National Planning; States and Local Governments to study the situation and submit remedial measures to avoid total collapse of the economy of the affected states. Senator Adetunmbi had alerted the Senate of the “great fiscal challenge and looming danger of insolvency as well as bankruptcy facing the states as a result of growing wage-bill associated with the implementation of the minimum wage and other recurrent responsibilities of the states. “A recent research by the NGF revealed that 20 states face the prospect of unstable and unfavourable financial standing, given the high percentage of their wage-bills to the total revenue accruable to them. Armed with the data, Adetunmbi noted that in most states, the private sector is weak and unable to generate economic growth and jobs that are required, thereby making the states and local governments the largest employers of labour with attendant fiscal imbalance. “The bulk of the revenue of these states is currently financing payroll of the civil service which constitutes less than 4% of the total population in all states; if this trend continues, many of the states would become financially insolvent and increasingly handicapped to finance real sectors and drive economic growth, job and improved livelihoods,” he said. He told the Senate that “most state governments now rush to the capital market to raise long-term bonds to finance development projects”, which if misused, would spell doom for their future and the financial quagmire of states. Some of the state governments that have taken this route of funding between 2002 and 2011 are: Lagos (series 1-N50bn; series II-N57.5bn), Imo (N18.5bn); Kwara (N17bn); Niger (N6bn); Bayelsa (N50bn); Kaduna (N8.5bn); Ebonyi (N16.5bn); Ogun (N50bn); Delta (N5bn) in 2007); Kebbi (N3.5bn) in 2006; Lagos (N15bn) in 2002 and Yobe (N2.5bn) in 2002. Adetunmbi called for urgency in the review of the revenue sharing structure among the federal states and local governments in view of the “financial quagmire” of affected states. Contributing, Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, canvassed a merger of states and slammed the practice of state governments going cap in hand to Abuja for revenue, adding that, “there is federalism more in name than in practice.” Also, Chairman of the Niger Delta Committee, Senator James Manager, re-echoed the call for merger of states and asserted that “all the states are distressed. Something has to be done. So many states are not supposed to be states because they have nothing to offer, they are burdens on Nigeria. Those not viable should be merged with the viable ones, hence, the imperativeness of fiscal federalism.” Minority Whip Ganiyu Solomon noted that the revenue formula is long overdue for review, adding that there was too much concentration of power at the centre. Corroborating Solomon, Senator Ahmed Lawan submitted that the states were not getting their own fair share of the revenue, stressing, “it is totally unfair that the Federal Government should continue to get 53 per cent; it is not justifiable”. Senator Sola Adeyeye queried the rationale for having “a Federal Ministry of Agriculture when there are no federal farms; communication, aviation, industry and housing when all the properties have been sold to the private sector.” Thereafter, senators canvassed a review of the sharing formula from the Federation Account to further enrich the states and local governments as well as compelling the Federal Government to transfer some of its responsibilities to the lower tiers of government. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/newsonthehour/2011/oct/28/newsbreak-28-10-2011-001.html |
Osun gov snubs VP Sambo in Osogbo •PDP tenders apology on behalf of state DIGNITARIES at the commissioning of a Federal High Court complex in Osogbo, Osun State, were shocked, on Thursday, when the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, ignored protocol by snubbing Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan. Aregbesola, who was not at the event, sent a speech through his deputy, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, in which he said he refused to recognise the person of the vice-president in protest against the interception, by the police, of some of his supporters, who were going to Abuja on Tuesday. Although Aregbesola was in Abuja on Wednesday for the trial of Senator Bola Tinubu at the Code of Conduct tribunal, it was not immediately clear why he elected to stay off the state while the vice-president was visiting in official capacity. Aregbesola, in his speech, said, ”you will notice that I did not salute the person of the vice-president in my opening. I only recognised his office. I mean no disrespect for him but I did it in protest of the outrageous manner the Federal Government, through its agency, the police, has treated my person and office in flagrant violation of federal principle, rights of citizens and liberty of people.” Aregbesola noted that the act of the police was a declaration of hostility against his person and office as the governor of Osun State. ”I demand an explanation. We must be very careful and watch out for acts capable of destroying the constitution. Reckless disregard for and unconscionable violation of the principles of federalism which position the states and the Federal Government in a union in which the later is just primus inter pares has become the hallmark of the police, as it is (sic) aided in evil mischief by the Federal Government all the time. “This has subverted the federal principles in the constitution and has de facto turned the country into a unitary state in which the Federal Government assumes the position of a headmaster over the states that are now treated at will like pupils, “ Aregbesola explained. President Jonathan, in his speech read by the vice-president, urged anybody who was aggrieved to always seek justice in the law court, because that was why the judicial authority was brought closer to them. He said bringing the judiciary authority closer to the people was for people to be able to lodge their complaints. Sambo was apparently referring to the allegation by Aregbesola, who complained that his office was disrespected by the police by turning back his supporters. The president, therefore, appealed to the elite and opinion moulders to have understanding of the working of the judiciary.” This commissioning today, I am pleased to note, is adding value to the cause of justice, and we have brought justice closer to the people of Osun State, and whoever has any grievances today has a closer avenue to lodge his complaint. “I wish to call on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially the elite and opinion moulders, to galvanise intellectual energy in the direction of deepening and objective understanding of the working of the judiciary in our national development. “I also call on your Lordship and other operators and the Body of Benchers and the bar to pursue internal ethical codes that are hallmark of legal and judicial practice. This, to a large extent, will dispel every form of observing perception regarding your line of duty, I am aware that you are indeed serving at a most trying time in our national journey, having sworn to uphold letters and spirit of the constitution, you cannot afford to fail at this time, when we were poised to deliver in all steps, especially on the rule of law and natural justice,” the president said. Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated Governor Aregbesola for openly attacking the office of the president of the country in the presence of the vice-president. A statement issued by the state chairman, Mr Sunday Ojo Williams said it was shocking that Aregbesola could carry his “wild politics” to such an extent. “Aregbesola should be told that he is giving this state a bad name by his rascally behaviour. He should know that Osun is not Lagos of Tinubu's era where misconduct in governance was celebrated as virtue. “We, on behalf of the good people of Osun State, apologise to President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo for the unruly behaviour and utterance of Mr Aregbesola. That has been what the people of Osun State have been enduring since last year when the Appeal Court awarded the governorship of Osun State to the man,” the PDP said. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/30407-osun-gov-snubs-vp-sambo-in-osogbo-pdp-tenders-apology-on-behalf-of-state |
Why are Yorubas being humiliated and relegated as the 3nd class citizen of Nigeria? What have they done that other sections of the country haven't done before? Look at the case of Baba Suwa, was he the only one ever to carry drugs in his stomach? Yorubas should stand up to this injustice. |

Nigerian held with 185 credit cards — in India A Nigerian national and a Mumbai-based Indian trader have been arrested in the Indian city of Mumbai for allegedly running an international racket of cloning credit cards and using it for shopping on the internet, the city’s Crime Branch officials said yesterday. Kolawole Michelle from Nigeria and Surjeet Singh from Mumbai were arrested on Saturday with 185 blank credit cards, credit card printer and reader, laptop computer and other equipment used for cloning credit cards, they said. During interrogation, the accused persons said they had got the cloned credit cards from a gang run by a Nigerian based in Mumbai, which were sent through a local angadia (a form of courier service), police said. Following a tip-off that two persons, including a Nigerian, were hiding near Sarangpur area, police raided the place and arrested the duo. They have been booked under section 465, 467, 468 (forgery) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66 and 65 of the Information Technology Act. Last week, Mumbai’s city crime branch arrested four persons with 53 cloned credit cards of various banks. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=146041:nigerian-held-with-185-credit-cards-in-india&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |

Abuja being the new capital. To be unbiased the real enlightened states with good number of its citizens known in the academic and economy world are as follows: Lagos then a little distantly followed by Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Enugu, Kano/kaduna, Plateau |
