Good to hear, some sellers will give u 12months warranty, when problem occurs in 3-6months and u call them about it , their tone changes, I was of going to tell u guys the encounter I had with this fullriver seller, my mind just say make I no talk...before I paid them, our rapour and conversation was going smooth but the day I sent them chat that I would return the battery and get a refund or have it changed , their voice come change to bass from treble , later discovered that my light in the house was low, so the charger couldn't do much, cos then I haven't connected my solar panel, moved to a new apartment... But if I get any small problem from the battery, I no go waste time return am because its still under warranty, I don't understand why these warranty stuff fulfillment no dey work for nigeria, the person I was chatting with was even saying my 160ah fullriver doesn't sulfate that I shouldn't use the pulse repair charger, the battery is agm,

Did you use a stabilizer with the anjing charger? What's the rating if you did.

There is no need to sink a separate rod for the inverter, the one in Db would do, as long as it pass the earth test

And if need be for a new rod, then it's better to connect them together to have equal-potential

Hope this is clear
Apologies, I read neutral as earth.

In other terms Neutral link bar is not to be shared between Grid and Inverter.

With respect to the above, do you then sink new earth rods just for the inverter? And would the earth rod stand alone or be linked/connected to other earth rods in same premises?

The issue is not buying from Alaba but getting the authentic product.

Like @kiekie posted sometime back, you see the blue Luminous flooding Alaba, but Luminous company in Nigeria doesn't sell it.The only SMF they have is K- Star which they haven't had new stocks for months now. They now sell mainly tubular battery.

As at my last call few weeks back, the new Luminous NGRT battery goes for 164k.

Go few threads back and see the price our Alaba people are quoting.

For Index battery, there is a company in Ilupeju ,Lagos,Multi power, the bring in Index battery. They are the manufacturers of Mpower, and Multi power brand of inverter and batteries.

I called some weeks back and they just got their stock.Index SMF goes for 125k.

For Amaron, there is also a company, D2H Ltd ,that sells Amaron Quanta battery. Also in Ilupeju.

Just google the names, you will get the address and contact of these companies.

For Luminous,Simba Industries have offices in Ericmoore in Surulere,Ikeja and Oregun.

For Haustrom products( Glow Energy,Microtek,GSRinverters and batteries), their office is at Fatai Atere Way,Mushin, beside STARTIMES OFFICE).

I haven't been able to figure our for Ritar but I personally will not buy those known brands of batteries from Alaba. I have had my share of bitter experience too which made me go directly to the companies that will honour their warranty.

For the regular cheapoo 70k,80k batteries, you can go to Alaba but be ready to buy another battery 8 months down the line.

If you cannot buy from the companies because of logistics issue, then you can try out some of the sellers here.I am not promoting anyone in particular but @kiekie is someone I have dealt with on 2 different occasions and had no issues. His price might be a bit high but based on my past experiences with him he is straight forward. He might also sound a bit arrogant but its something some of us can overlook as the price to pay for quality in an environment where honesty has become gold
that logistics is what prevents many people from going to hand pick what they want to buy.

Big Shoutout to the Bosses in the house.

As my Monicker implies, I am a rookie with "chikini" background in renewable energy.

I recently moved into a remote area and got some tier 4 600 watts mono panels for myself (150 x 4) for a 12 volts setup. I also got a 50 amps PWM charge controller and 10m cable dual core cable.

I arranged the photovoltaic array in parallel for more Ampere and positioned for proper exposure to sun radiation. Although I must confess that the distance from the rooftop to the panel isn't up to 5 inches.

Distance from Panel to CC = 8 Meters.

The reason for this post

1. The highest current I have recorded is 16amps (1st week after installation) at maximum voltage.

2. Now I record less than 12 amps even on sunny days.

3. Total AH per day is within 60 - 66ah.

I have installed a similar setup sometime in the past but with a different chinko 60 amps PWM controller and saw 20amps current output. Something is telling me to call my base and ask them to send me 60amps PWM (That brand i used in the past) but i feel its going to be a wasted effort.

I know you all will say "Buy MPPT", I will buy one by the end of the month for checks but please recommend between EpEver, PowMr and MakeSlyblue.

Expert suggestions will be appreciated.

You guys are king!

You're most likely experiencing losses due to wire sizing.

How did you connect the panels
1. in parallel
2. to the charge controller

Share full details of the wiring

Alright. There are 2 3kva versions. One with CC voc of 145vdc. There is a cheaper version whose max solar Voc is 75vdc. Or did you exceed the VoC?
Here... 145VDC
the panel config is quite basic

I have a long time electrician who has a team, I talk the theory they do the practical, now he is a solar installer grin
So not just anyone, has to be someone that knows how to find their way on the roof, my electrician does

That's a good extra hand to have.

1st way: get a short length of 8mm iron rod, have an iron bender make the shape of a hook at one end and a closed loop at the other. Tie the flat rope Mr Niyi advised you use at one end, hook the other end through the mounting holes/ or eyelets at spots closest to the edge of the panels. That's where a paper I read states is supposed to be the strongest part of the frame. Its a 3man job. I bought a roll of the flat rope, you need enough slack in gusty wind conditions

2. They sell miniature clasps, like those on a safety harness, not exactly mettalic - the metallic version of a keyholder clasp. The flat rope can be tied in a knot at one end and the other end of the clasp be put in the mounting holes. This option should be your last option. 2 disadvantages of this option: fiddling with the spring release to remove the hook from.the panel may become tricky at great heights. Secondly, if roughly handled, the bottom.end of the clasp can snap off, which will a costly accident.

The 8mm hook stands up to the stress of use, and sliding the panel up the surface of a slanted ladder reduces the danger and stress on those pulling it up.

N.B If a pulley is used, it has to be fixed to something, before it can be effective. On a 2-3 story building, that's not too nice a prospect.

Its also wise to have your electrician or carpenter go into the roof from the manhole to inspect the roof beams - IF the opportunity exists. I avoided a nasty surprise that way. The lightest member of my crew had to virtually tiptoe past that section of the roof. It was scary.

enlightening, thanks.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
Every panel I have ever handled has some holes/cutouts in the aluminium frame.

We always use this flat cloth rope (I will find a pic) for easy threading through those holes and also less friction on your hands as you pull up.

If you see no holes (doubtful then you can tie some length of rope across the panel both horizontal and vertical and use this 'harness' to hoist up. You will find that you don't really need to tie anything super tight but always let common sense and risk aversion lead.

Where we use a ladder then the panel travels up along the ladder if possible - always better with scaffolding as this affords you stable footing and no fear of tumbling off.

Again, to do this safely needs at least 2 men up and one man down - always carry 2 full rolls of flat rope and some offcuts - you will always need ropes to hoist up panels and assorted tools in a bag

The cloth rope that looks like those use in handles of bags right?

When I had to put panels on my roof(and some other roof) it was usually 4 of us, 2 on the roof and 2 ground with a rope for pulling as Oga Niyi has enumerated. I think for a roof work, minimum should be 3; two on the roof and one on ground.
Did you use Roofers or just anyone?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by BetaTechnicians: 8:43pm On Mar 09, 2021
NiyiOmoIyunade:
For safety, panel work on a sloped roof is a 2 man job. Two people access the roof and let down a rope - 2 lengths side by side.

3rd man on the ground ties a solar panel to the two ropes and then the men on the roof hoist it up in tandem - you can either slide up the panels across a ladder for control (prevent smashing into the walls or objects around) or have the man on ground counter pull with a 3rd length of rope at the bottom of the panel.

Manipulating a 300w+ panel on a sloped roof should always be done by two people. I have seen one man do it successfully but a gust of wind or small misstep can quickly turn to disaster.

If you can attach safety harness to a scaffold or similar structure then all the better

Also if you weigh more than 85kg you should probably not climb on a roof!

Thanks for this, quite comprehensive.

Yes, all without inbuilt charger. I believe that's one of the reasons for the low no load consumption. I believe the rule is the more the in-built add on circuitry, the more the idle comsumption.

I may have to get one of this too as a backup.

Backups are really important, a hybrid felicity's CC part failed and it has been sent back to them for over 3 months now without any hope of getting it back anytime soon.

Thanks for this. I have always wondered what else could serve as a cheaper and readily available alternative.

Bro I won't lie o. In an installation I did for personal use, after the second trip up the ladder with a 330w panel, I was panting and a little exhausted. My own weight is a couple of kg above twice the weight of the 450w. grin

I have decided that in any other personal installs going forward, I will hire the services of professional climbers and probably heavyset type that will do that wahala of carrying it to the roof.

is there an efficient way of getting the panels to the roof?
I have been lucky with all the installs I've done regarding location of the panels.

Does anyone here use modified sinewave inverters to charge laptops? What's the experience like and any recommendation?

I've always used pure sinewave and thinking of trying msw for a budget setup.
