EgunMogaji: We are Nigerians, not Romans, we don't need to copy Romans and try to build Rome.
Maybe they can start by building an alternator, first or a starter.
If it's still research and development then it shouldn't see the light of day yet in it's current grotesque status. ..... lol... funny you. okay, if Rome is not built in a day, then, a child born in a day does not walk that day. to achieve success, you have to start somewhere. they have started, let us encourage them |

If they want to impress us on their mechanical skills they can start by repairing/restoring many of the broken heavy equipment that litters the countryside.
I hold Nigerian and her university students in higher criteria than this. ... Rome is not built in a day |

EgunMogaji: I'm sorry Man, I meant no offense to you personally, I can never change my view on this nonsense that they keep parading as a motorcar. It's at best a child pedal car, even at that it's a poor one.
I'm an Autoist and thus take the automotive principle seriously. There's nothing wrong with import when managed right. Every single country in the world imports. Import is not a bad word. Nigeria's problem is not about importation, ours is more complex than that. I won't get into all that on this thread because this is the wrong section for it. I will say this, just look at the actions that my Supreme Leader Buhari has been taking to reverse our further slide into the abyss and you'll realize where we've gone wrong and why this poor dweebs are parading around with a toy car.
I've never manufactured a car but have restored cars from a pile of parts in boxes and sometimes just a frame and have to source every single nut and bolt.
I continue to give these chaps and their unfortunate creation a fail. This is 2016 and a large oil producing country with eminent scholars in it should be able to do better than this farce.
You guys are doing them a disafavor. You see when you salute every shitty tin can they bang together then you're telling them this si good enough, sometimes we need serious feedback to improve ourselves.
I cannot and will never change my position on this toyish contraption they keep trying to pass of as motorcars. my guy, i do get ur points but still, is this not better than doing nothing? |

Teempakguy:
You're not getting the point, are you? This is not an invention. Cars have already been invented. Over a hundred years ago. They have been refined over the years and are now state of the art.
This is a science project. They already know how a car works. They know what and what not to do. YET, IT STILL BROKE DOWN. What happened? If they suck this much at technology replication, then how much will they suck at actually inventing something? If these ones invent a light bulb, it would burn out every three days, and you would come here to say they were inventing something. No they aren't. Thomas Edison already did that years ago. And they can't even do copy-copy well. .... the ones that have been invented hundreds years ago, dont they break down? even last year, Toyota withdraw back all their new product (i cant remember the model) all because of a failure. for them to make an attempt is a kudos, failure is bound to happen at any point in time. all we should do is encourage them to do more and improve. |

You may choose to disappoint this guys by being PC, but I don't, am a straight shooter.
They are a waste and need to go back to the drawing board. Waste? common man! they are not! am not trying to convince you. am trying to make you reason with me. let us encourage Nigerian made things. we should stop depending on imports. our dependance on importations has renedered our economy useless despite the rebasing. we need to start doing things inwardly |

EgunMogaji: It really does need to stop. But I guess this is the end result when all the elders have stolen the national money and the teachers are always on strike. I just can't fathom anyone jubilating for this piece of shyte in 2016. EgunMogaji: I agree with you. Maybe they can start by creating a proper towing system instead of ropes. Dweebs InvertedHammer: / I will give them credit alright. They deserve 24 lashes of koboko each for lack of scientific and technological imaginations. \ InvertedHammer: / This era of disgrace by the so-called Engineering students must stop. \ johnemeka: why are we disgracing engineering...is Nigerian Engineers going forward or backward. Can this TORTOISE be use for any meaningful thing? Teempakguy: baba don vex. They're just reinventing the wheel. Nowadays, you don't build cars, you design them. Then you send the designs to a car manufacturing company or something. In fact, you can even build it yourself, but that would take three lifetimes (210 years) if your car has the standard of an average car now. but the design stage is extremely important. I also saw unilag's contraption. They should forget about cars and start designing other things. Like swarms, and humanoid robots or even wearable tech or even smart cars. All of these are kinda useless. why are you talking like this? you call inventions a SHit and disgrace All those that have been inventing this or that, where do they start from? dont they fail in their trials to invent things? dont they? they have the fund to invent but these students out of no fund went ahead to beat the odds to put something down. does failure means the end? if pikin fail for school no be repeat e dey repeat? mind you, its only one person that started invention of cars while other went ahead to follow suit. these car manufacturers have heavy equipments and factory that they make use of. but these students make use of little resources they have. what i see them proving here is that our ajaokuta where we produce metal will start functioning one they are able to get it right. our fuel exportation will reduce, our electrical engineering students will be gainfully employed likewise our mechanical engineering students as well as our computer scientists which marketers are not excluded as well as painters/artist when everyone will be smilling to bank. please stop rubbishing Naija made things again. lets start developing our own stuffs. lets start contributing to our economy. WE ALL CAN DO IT! |

Jacide: The availability of multiple applications like BBM, Skype, WhatsApp is eating up the revenues of major Nigerian Telecommunication companies. With the budding apps, calling and short message services have taken the back seat and as a result, the telecommunication companies are facing a massive loss of revenue.
A recent report has revealed that majority of the telcos have fallen some 30% decline in their expected revenue generation. Apart from this revenue drop statistics, the report also suggested that the companies could see an additional decrease of 20% in the total revenue. In order to reclaim the loss, some of the telcos have raised data price through the means of shaving, which is eventually hurting the broadband penetration in Nigeria. How the shaving is done
The current data plans, irrespective of the network hardly last the expected duration it is meant to last, due to increased use of internet in Nigeria. For example, I’ve been a victim of Airtel on several occasions. Buying their so called 2GB BIS plan for 1,500 naira is suicide. The last time I used the service, I hardly got 200 megabytes of data usage before I was slammed with the reality of my “data is exhausted!” What a sham?
http://somtoo.com/nigerian-networks-introduce-shaving-to-balance-cheaper-data-costs/ ...... This ya storry na wah ooo. if u wan complain, complain no be say u go dey give us fake news. . what u don't understand about data usages is alot. Using BlackBerry subscription on android wont last. this is because Androids uses more data than BlackBerry. also, blackberries connects to a pre-synced servers unlike androids. Rim network subsides data usage through their global servers. |
Health › Re: EDUCATIVE: Dangers of Cooking with Fire wood by bidex(m): 12:04am On Aug 14, 2015 |
princeemmac: The Silent Killer
Cooking is the process of preparing food mostly through the application of heat. Firewood is the most popular source of domestic energy used for cooking in Africa.
In Nigeria, many homes and indeed restaurants resort to the use of firewood for cooking especially for large families, groups, parties, etc mainly due to the availability, inexpensive nature of firewood and lack of access to modern cooking fuels. But a large number of households are not aware of the hazards that are associated with cooking with firewood.
Firewood https://www.samsfirewood.com/images/quarter1big.jpg Firewood is primarily sourced from felled trees. The major reason for planting trees is for the preservation of the ecosystem and maintenance of good balance.
Deforestation by way of indiscriminate felling of trees for the use as firewood has been a major source of concern. Deforestation causes distortion or imbalance in the ecosystem and should be discouraged.
It is even worst when the people felling trees do not care about replacement. It has been recommended that for every tree you fell, plant four others. This is not being adhered to.
Trees https://www.pineswcd.com/vertical/Sites/%7BB4CF315C-B365-47D6-A226-5F80C04C0D48%7D/uploads/tree_clipart.gif Every log of firewood you see around came from a tree. A tree is a plant with an elongated trunk which supports its branches and leaves.
Importance Of Trees • Trees provide oxygen (In one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people.) • Trees refreshes and cools the environment/ streets and city – Through shades and releasing vapour into the air • Trees conserve energy • Trees save water • Trees help prevent water pollution • Trees help prevent soil erosion • Trees shield children from ultra-violet rays • Trees provide food • Trees mark the seasons • Trees provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife • Trees clean the air • Trees provide wood • Trees combat the climate change
Every stick of firewood you use represents a felled tree that could have provided all of the above and lots more.
But narrowing it back to our discourse, there is already a challenge brewing up as the trees are felled indiscriminately which is a health issue nobody is looking at.
Fire Wood- The Silent Killer It has been widely reported of the very serious adverse health effect African women face by the continued inhaling of smoke emitted by firewood combustion. This Smoke contains complex gases and fine particles, which affects both the lungs and the heart.
Firewood smoke is a great source of what scientist term fine particle pollution. It is painful that most users of firewood do not know the health hazard they are exposing themselves to.
Fine Particles https://ep01.epimg.net/sociedad/imagenes/2012/09/24/actualidad/1348514270_964033_1348514666_sumario_normal.png The size of particles is directly linked to their potential for causing health problems. Small particles less than 10 micrometers in diameter pose the greatest problems, because they can get deep into the lungs, and some may even get into the bloodstream. Among these particles are “fine particles,” which are 2.5 micrometers in diameter and smaller.
Numerous scientific studies have linked fine particle pollution exposure to a variety of problems, including:
• Increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing, or difficulty breathing; • Decreased lung function; • Aggravated asthma; • Development of chronic bronchitis; • Irregular heartbeat; • Non fatal heart attacks; and • Premature death in people with heart or lung disease.
Other Troubles Aside from the fine particles, the complex gas emitted contain sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and potentially carcinogenic compounds including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, formaldehyde and dioxins , which are known are known to cause cancer, Plus the notorious Greenhouse gas CO2.
The Techno Solution
Small wonder the Executive Vice Chairman of Techno oil ltd, Mrs. Nkechi Obi, MON, related with these facts passionately in a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos, Nigeria. She said, `Cooking with firewood is a silent killer because firewood smoke is more dangerous than cigarette smoke.’’
Citing a recent World Health Organization report, she said that cooking with firewood often resulted to indoor pollution, which globally accounted for over 4 million deaths every year.
Mrs. Obi, who received Federal Government’s commendation few years ago for the `Going Green’ initiative of her company which is directed at popularizing the use of cooking gas in Nigeria has continued to sustain the effort. She further said that she was looking forward to when most Nigerian households would embrace the use of LPG and reduce the danger Nigerian women are being exposed to.
The Techno oil chief said ``Why must we continue to decimate our women population and keep pretending as if nothing is happening?” Mrs. Obi said this, as she announced the commencement of the construction work of the multi billion Naira LPG Cylinder manufacturing plant which would be producing a minimum of about 5 million cylinders annually.
She noted that When Techno Oil LPG cylinder production plant is completed, it will deepen LPG (Cooking Gas) adopting , create a clean, safe and healthier environment, make cylinders more available and affordable, create jobs and reduce the depletion of our foreign reserves through importation.
True as her words have highlighted; cooking with firewood is a silent killer and the preferred alternative: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking Gas) which is greener, safer and healthier should be encouraged. #Technooil #TechnoGas #TechnoGas & Power
