Dear All,

What do you all think can be done differently on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.

This is just an hour stretch road.
Mount check point for ever 2km to 5km or less, that was how it was done way back. I don't know why they stopped, Alot of people have been killed, kidnapped and unaccounted for on this dangerous and treacherous road.

Before it was destroying power gridlines, it's like this as stopped. They've now resulted into kidnapping, the army HQ should adapt to this terrorist tactics swiftly.

I know you would have lost alot of colleagues playing through this road cool

Please apart from intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance what else do Airforce Intelligence Officers do? For example do they also go to into towns to carry out investigations like DSS?
Every branch of the military has its own intelligence corp just like the army. Presently I can say the NAF has a better intelligence outfit, probably that's why Airforce officers are been selected has the head of Defence Intelligence.

To your question, intelligence officers as no other job than to gather information/intelligence and Intelligence..... smiley

OK Tnx chief
what are the requirements to work for the military intelligence
Each military branch or the defence HQ just draw men and women they want due to there professions or courses they've undergone.
Let's take the army now, it's likely someone that who read computer science, Psychology etc is likely to be choosen.
Or someone that has passed through NA signal/intelligence corp is likely to be in that corp. Joining the Intelligence corp is not like the infantry or NAMC or other corps.

MAJOR GENERAL SAWYERR TAKES-OVER AS DEFENCE SPOKESMAN... Cautions Against Sensational Journalism

The newly appointed Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr has called on the Nigerian media to guide against sensational reportage which seeks to undermine national security.

Maj Gen Sawyerr gave the charge while takingover as the new spokesman of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in a brief ceremony held today, 30 July, 2021 at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja.

The DDI who described the media as a vital component in the entire process of any campaign plan, either conventional or asymmetric warfare, solicited media operators support in all spectrums towards jettisoning sensational headlines that give undue publicity to perpetrators of criminal acts that tend to undermine national security. He however, urged the media to be objective, fair and balanced in their reportage.

Maj Gen Sawyerr, further explained his responsibilities as the new image maker of the AFN to include projecting and galvanizing media and citizens support for all military operations.

He noted that the AFN in synergy with other security agencies have continued to work round the clock in surmounting the various security threats. These security challenges, he said, would in no distant time be a thing of the past, as a result of the positive feelers emanating from the theatres of operation.

He commended the efforts of the Deputy Director, Defence Information, Air Commodore Wap Martin Maigida for professionally piloting the affairs of the Directorate while acting as Defence spokesman. He pledged to leverage on the successes recorded as well as the experience gathered over the years.

The immediate past Acting DDI, Air Cdre Maigida, earlier in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the CDS for his unflinching supports during his tenure.

He commended the media, particularly, the Defence Correspondents for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout his tenure and urged them to redouble their efforts in projecting the positive image of the AFN in the quest of ensuring national security.

The occasion was witnessed by senior media practitioners.

Nemesis4you , please can you explain the technology used here.

I know Russian planes are not known to carry Reconnaissance pods (Sniper, Aselpod etc) so how are they able to carry out this sort of recon?
Russia will license-produce the Thales Damocles reconnaissance and target designation pod for its air force strike aircraft, following successful tests of the system with Malaysia's Sukhoi Su-30MKM multirole fighter. Comparative trials involving Damocles and the Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ)-produced Sapsan and Solux targeting pods went in favour of the French design

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damocles_(targeting_pod)

It's possible that Russian as finished developing there own version of Thales sniper pods and they're testing it in Syria already.
The targeting pods market is estimated to be USD 3.26 Billion in 2017 and projected to reach USD 4.49 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 6.61% during the forecast period.

The growth of the market can be attributed to increasing military aircraft procurement as well as upgradation of existing aircraft across the world. The increasing military aircraft procurement by various countries has led to an increase in demand for aircraft payload-based targeting system, i.e. targeting pods for capability enhancement in precision targeting.

Europe accounted for the largest share of the targeting pods market in 2017, followed by Asia Pacific and North America. Europe's large share can be attributed to the increased spending on advanced airborne targeting systems by countries such as the UK, France, and Russia and the upgradation and procurement of targeting pod-based aircraft. Russia is estimated to be the leading market for targeting pods in Europe in 2017. The reason for Russia's dominance of the Europe targeting pods market can be attributed to the country's aircraft upgradation programs.

PRESS RELEASE

NAF ESTABLISHES DIRECTORATE OF VETERAN AFFAIRS

In a bid to stimulate better welfare packages for Nigerian Air Force (NAF) veterans and their families, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao has approved the immediate establishment of the Directorate of Veteran Affairs. The new Directorate, domiciled under the Administration Branch, will also be responsible for interfacing with similar structures in sister Services towards harnessing necessary benefits for NAF retirees under existing Federal Government programmes for veterans, among other responsibilities. The CAS disclosed this while recently declaring open a 2-day Conference for NAF Administrative and Medical personnel. The Conference with the theme, “Efficient Human Resource Management: Panacea for Bolstering Morale and Improving Personnel Welfare”, attracted seasoned and erudite resource persons with vast knowledge in human resource management as well as experts in the field of medicine.

In his opening remarks, Air Marshal Amao noted that the NAF considers the state of physical and mental well-being of its personnel, which he described as an important factor in the sustenance of morale, as a force multiplier in ensuring operational effectiveness. He also pointed that the Conference was one in a series of conferences aimed at refocusing operational capabilities and bolstering personnel morale. He emphasized that the strength of any armed Service is not determined by the strength of its arsenal, but also by the professionalism of its workforce, which is largely bolstered through robust human resource management. According to him, in the last 2 months, the NAF had launched the Telemedicine portal to ensure access to prompt medical attention, whilst promoting confidence in NAF medical services for enhanced morale and productivity of personnel. He stated further that the outcome of such innovations would stimulate NAF human resource management efforts to be at par with global organizational standards and best practices.

Air Marshal Amao challenged participants to critically assess areas where the NAF was lacking as regards personnel welfare and administration and come up with workable solutions to mitigate effects on the Service’s operational capabilities. “As a highly technical Service that deals with sophisticated aircraft, equipment and military hardware, maintaining a highly skilled, efficient, healthy and motivated workforce should be the hallmark of our daily activities. To this end, we will continue to epitomize best human resource management practices to promote our operational effectiveness”, he said. While expressing the profound gratitude of the NAF to President Muhammadu Buhari, for his unwavering and continued support, the CAS assured of NAF’s commitment to the successful execution of constitutional roles for a peaceful and united Nigeria.

Earlier, the Air Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Madi had stated that the timing for the conference was apt, considering the strategic importance of the human resource in achieving organizational goals and objectives. He also stated that the NAF has invested hugely in human capacity development and personnel welfare in recent years which has translated to tangible gains in NAF operational conducts. In the same vein, the Chief of Medical Services, Air Commodore Olabode Babalola revealed the desire of the CAS to ensure that the NAF Medical Services measure up to the global best practice. According to him, the CAS’ approval of the Medical Conference is a further attestation of his willingness to improve healthcare delivery in the NAF.

During the 2-day Conference, 4 papers were presented by seasoned and experienced human resource managers and medical practitioners. Papers relevant to administrative management presented included, “Human Resource Management and Administrative Service Delivery in NAF”, delivered by Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Kure (Rtd) and “Human Resource Management Development: A vital Tool for Achieving Organizational Goals”, delivered by Dr (Mrs) Boma Akhiojemi. Papers relevant to the medical field delivered included, “Telemedicine and its Prospects in the NAF by Dr (Mrs) Funmi Adewara and “Drug Abuse and Post -Traumatic Stress Disorder” delivered by Air Commodore Bashir Yakassai (Rtd). Participants for the Conference were drawn from all NAF units nationwide.
