Exclusive: Nigeria interested in acquiring Russian S-400 ground-to-air missile system.

The Nigerian defence minister confirmed the interest in buying S-400 missiles from Russia, the same missile defence system was recently sold to its allies, Iran and Turkey. Nigeria interest in this air defence systems will make her the first user in Africa with Algeria operating older versions.

Nigeria is interested in purchasing the same Russian missile defence system recently sold to Iran and Turkey, Nigeria's defence minister revealed.

Nigerian military authorities have voiced an official interest in buying advanced S-400 air and missile defence systems from the Russian Federation. Nigeria's efforts to enhance its defensive strategic military capabilities is necessary as the country do not posses a strategic missile defence system. For some years now it has sought to have a long-range missile defence system of its own, as it is currently relying on old Roland air defense systems.

THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF, GENERAL ABAYOMI GABRIEL OLONISAKIN, SERVICE CHIEFS AND DG DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICE MET IN MAIDUGURI TO REVIEW OPERATIONS IN THE NORTH EAST

1. The Chief of Defence staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin and the Service Chiefs with the Director General Department of State Service met in Maiduguri yesterday, 1st march 2018 to review the ongoing operations in the North East, particularly, the operation to get back the Dapchi girls.

2. During the review, the pattern of information management in all the military operations was reviewed. It was sadly observed that, the military operation strategies have always been in the media space thereby giving the insurgents and terrorists opportunity to re-strategise. It was recommended that hence forth, the military information arms will be communicating the successes rather than strategies.

3. The Chief of Defence Staff solicits for media cooperation and support of all the stakeholders as well as members of the general public in the ongoing efforts. However, it is very important to be mindful of speculations that could jeopardise the ongoing efforts as well as put the lives of the girls or any other persons involve in the efforts at risk. For instance, the speculations that is awash in the media that fishermen and farmers have been employed by the military to search for the abducted girls is misleading as this could endanger the lives of the girls in question and the fishermen and farmers.

4. Even though the military is soliciting for useful information to facilitate its operations, the fishermen and farmers have not been singled out for this assistance, rather all well meaning members of the public are urged to provide useful information.

Troops of 101 special Forces Battalion of Nigerian Army on Excercise Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) deployed at Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Tuesday killed 10 herdsmen and arrested six others caught while on the run after setting a village ablaze. Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations said the troops responded to distress call and supported troops at Gwamba village under attack by herdsmen on Tuesday.
