Why do married men have money than single guys? Married men have more responsibilities ranging from rents, kids education, food etc and yet they have cash to splash around. Single guys even when they are gainfully employed and financially stable, majority are usually stingy and hardly spend. Married men are more matured and tight lip about relationship but single guys easily run their mouth. |

A long-awaited verdict in the trial of two Canadian religious leaders accused of polygamy is expected on Monday. Winston Blackmore, 61, is accused of having 24 wives and his former brother-in-law James Oler, 53, is alleged to have married four women. They are both former bishops of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS). The landmark polygamy trial is expected to test the boundaries of religious freedom in Canada. Polygamy is illegal under Section 293 of Canada's Criminal Code. Mr Blackmore's lawyer has argued that criminalising polygamy infringes on his client's freedom of religion. Both men face a maximum sentence of five years if found guilty. Fugitive US polygamist sect leader held Their trial took place in a British Columbia (BC) court this spring over the course of two-and-a-half weeks. The two are from Bountiful in southeastern BC, a religious community of about 1,500 people and founded in 1946. Residents are part of a breakaway Mormon sect, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) and have practised polygamy for over 70 years. Mr Blackmore was excommunicated from the FLDS in 2002 and replaced by Mr Oler. The sect has branches in the US, including Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah, and about 10,000 members. The FLDS split from the mainstream Mormon church over a century ago after it banned the practice of polygamy. FLDS sect members are said to see polygamy as necessary for reaping reward in the afterlife. The American former FLDS leader, Warren Jeffs, was sentenced to life in prison in 2011 by a Texas court for sexually assaulting two underage girls that he took as brides. This June, his brother Lyle Jeffs was arrested in South Dakota after fleeing house arrest in 2016 while awaiting trial with 10 other sect leaders for alleged food stamp fraud and money laundering. Authorities in the US and Canada have collaborated on building cases against FLDS leaders. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has had Bountiful in its sights since the 1990s over allegations of child abuse, coerced marriages, and the trafficking of teenage brides between the US and Canada. Attempts to bring the case to trial stumbled over a lack of clarity around anti-polygamy laws in Canada. In 2011, the BC Supreme Court upheld Canada's anti-polygamy law as constitutional following a request for clarification from BC's government. According to the 335-page ruling, the law is a reasonable restriction on religious freedoms. Justice Robert Bauman wrote that the "salutary effects of the prohibition far outweigh the deleterious" and noted that the institution of monogamous marriage "seeks to protect against the many harms which are reasonably apprehended to arise out of the practice of polygamy". Those "many harms" cited included the possibility of early sexualisation of girls, physical or sexual abuse, and the ostracisation of young men. Queens University law professor Nick Bala, who was an intervenor in the 2011 BC court reference, says that questions around the constitutional validity of the law as well as difficulty gathering admissible evidence from the women involved with the sect made a case a struggle to build. Mr Bala expects Monday's verdict will be closely watched not just in Canada but in the US and Europe as well, where the debate around plural marriages is a significant issue. Polygamy is illegal throughout the western world. "This is a matter of national and indeed international significance and it's likely to end up in the Supreme Court of Canada," he said. Mr Bala says there is still sufficient legal doubt around the constitutionality of the anti-polygamy law that he is not willing to predict Monday's verdict. France is set to ban the sale of any car that uses petrol or diesel fuel by 2040, in what the ecology minister called a "revolution". Nicolas Hulot announced the planned ban on fossil fuel vehicles as part of a renewed commitment to the Paris climate deal. He said France planned to become carbon neutral by 2050. Hybrid cars make up about 3.5% of the French market, with pure electric vehicles accounting for just 1.2%. It is not yet clear what will happen to existing fossil fuel vehicles still in use in 2040. Volvo goes electric across the board Global dismay at US climate deal pullout How Paris is stepping up its drive against the car Mr Hulot, a veteran environmental campaigner, was appointed by new French President Emmanuel Macron. Mr Macron has openly criticised US environmental policy, urging Donald Trump to "make our planet great again". President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement in June was explicitly named as a factor in France's new vehicle plan. "France has decided to become carbon neutral by 2050 following the US decision," Mr Hulot said, adding that the government would have to make investments to meet that target. Poorer households would receive financial assistance to replace older, more polluting vehicles with cleaner ones, he said. Earlier this week, car manufacturer Volvo said all of its new car models would be at least partly electric from 2019, an announcement referenced by Mr Hulot. He said he believes French car manufacturers - including brands such as Peugeot-Citroen and Renault - would meet the challenge, although he acknowledged it would be difficult. Renault's "Zoe" electric vehicle range is one of the most popular in Europe. However, traditional fossil fuel vehicles account for about 95% of the European market. Other targets set in the French environmental plan include ending coal power plants by 2022, reducing nuclear power to 50% of total output by 2025, and ending the issuance of new oil and gas exploration licences. Several French cities struggle with high levels of air pollution, including Paris, which endured several days of peak pollution in March. The capital has implemented a range of measures to cut down on cars , but air pollution is also a problem in picturesque mountain regions . Last month, a woman took the French state to court over what she said was a failure to protect her health from the effects of air pollution in Paris. Norway, which is the leader in the use of electric cars in Europe, wants to move to electric-only vehicles by 2025, as does the Netherlands. Both Germany and India have proposed similar measures with a target of 2030. source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-40518293 |

MouthAction is producing dangerous gonorrhoea and a decline in condom use is helping it to spread, the World Health Organization has said. It warns that if someone contracts gonorrhoea, it is now much harder to treat, and in some cases impossible. The sexually transmitted infection is rapidly developing resistance to antibiotics. Experts said the situation was "fairly grim" with few new drugs on the horizon. About 78 million people pick up the STI each year and it can cause infertility. The World Health Organization analysed data from 77 countries which showed gonorrhoea's resistance to antibiotics was widespread. Dr Teodora Wi, from the WHO, said there had even been three cases - in Japan, France and Spain - where the infection was completely untreatable. She said: "Gonorrhoea is a very smart bug, every time you introduce a new class of antibiotics to treat gonorrhoea, the bug becomes resistant." Worryingly, the vast majority of gonorrhoea infections are in poor countries where resistance is harder to detect. "These cases may just be the tip of the iceberg," she added. Throat infection Gonorrhoea can infect the genitals, rectum and throat, but it is the last that is most concerning health officials. Dr Wi said antibiotics could lead to bacteria in the back of the throat, including relatives of gonorrhoea, developing resistance. She said: "When you use antibiotics to treat infections like a normal sore throat, this mixes with the Neisseria species in your throat and this results in resistance." Thrusting gonorrhoea bacteria into this environment through MouthAction can lead to super-gonorrhoea. "In the US, resistance [to an antibiotic] came from men having sex with men because of pharyngeal infection," she added. A decline in condom use, which had soared because of fears of HIV/Aids, is thought to help the infection spread. Source : http://www.bbc.com/news/health-40520125 |

Toks2008:My brother, women are something else. There is a trend here in the east that will soon explode, many married women are living single in the name of my husband is in the abroad. Ask when since when has he left home, some as far back as ten years ago. Am sure we all know what is happening to drug traffickers, many are dead, majority are in prison, thousands died in the desert. Now these women are fuxking anybody cos their hubby is nowhere to be found. Easterners are the worst hit, we carry one man one wife for head in the name of Christianity. Majority of the priest and pastors have one wife but many baby mamas. Women even prefer their husbands have side chicks than marry a second wife though they wouldn't admit openly. We Igbo's need to see to cost of marriage, its driving men crazy and making our women become prostitutes. come to Owerri, Enugu, Umuahia and see all our single and youthful ladies now professional runs girls. Am sure time will tell. |

Considering the rate of domestic violence everywhere, what should a man do when his wife refuses to cook, take care of the children and other house chores. Husband is financially buoyant, provides for the home, enough house help and ever ready to support the wife. All the wife wants is to party, visit friends at the expense of her family. Hubby has discussed these severally but no changes. What should he do? DV not an option. |
