@siena, i have a question. i understand the function of a thermostat in engine-driven fans. but hw about in modern electric fans? from my understanding, the ECT sensor monitors the coolant temp and tells the fan when to run or stop. the coolant flow from the radiator to the engine and back is ALWAYS open. cooling is strictly determined by the ECT & not a thermostat.

so how come everybody keeps referring to thermostats in all types of cars?

I'm yet to fix the car because I'm currently in Ibadan and do not want to give the car to a roadside mechanic to avoid complications. As it is now, it's getting worse. Just this night, I tried to drive it and it kept switching off subsequently on starting, right inside the compound.

I've changed the airflow meter as advised by a NairaLander.

well, just like most people have suggested, scanning the car will put you in d right direction, instead of these random guesswork. i have an OBDII scanner & i will be work-free from wednesday. i can be of help.

Good day cronies,

My 2005 Infiniti FX 35 goes off by itself mostly when not in motion. My thought was that the fuel pump was the cause as advised by a mechanic.

The problem started when I gave it to a mechanic to help service the fuel meter that wasn't working. After fixing this, he didn't connect back the return fuel pump hose.

So yesterday, I took it to a mechanic workshop and the fuel pump was changed with 2 different ones and it was still the same. Also the sound of the engine is usually high that it appears on the acceleratory meter, and also fluctuate, which was never the case before the fuel meter repair. As at now, Service Engine Soon notice is also on. It started a night when I kept starting it as it kept going off immediately after starting.

Now in order to avoid another try and error from fixing this car, I want the NL gurus on automobile to help tell what the exact fault is and as well recommend known pro mechanics that can help put this car back in order once and for all within Ibadan and Lagos.

i have bought 3 cars here on nairaland;
April 2011; 2007 Accord. dealer was Earthplus
August 2011; 2007 Accord again, dealer was Viperautos
January 2013; 2008 FX35, dealer was Earthplus again.

i have also imported numerous spare parts and lubricants from USA using InspiredAutos.

in all, i have had successful business dealings. there is hope for Nigeria here on Nairaland.
