just want to have a moment to laugh at aresnal, but the truth is no matter how blind the fans act, they cant say they didnt see this coming. It is an arsenal trend, it happens every year (apparently the only thing they are consistent with) crashing out of all competitions every beginning of the year.
But at the middle of the year, they'll act like they are going to win something and they have all the players and play good football that can make it happen grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Arsenal, i laugh at u.

Politics / Re: Do You Know The Meaning Of Nigeria? by bigsean(m): 10:12pm On Feb 17, 2012
Nice topic and post, i learnt something really new today.
but i dont think "dark" or "black" was meant to be used in a derogatory term when they tot of the nigeria.
But what do i know? If the whites could sail the seven seas (and all the challenges that it entails) to just come and use black guys to work on their farms and to sleep with the black ladies in the dark when no one is watching. Then giving us a derogatory name is really not worst they've done (i'm just saying)

andyanders:

In fact we make too much noise over the sacking of these staffs. It is only in Nigeria you see the kind of the numbers of staffs in banks. Some times, I wonder what their jobs are. You have a computer network and you find 10 staffs doing same jobs. The ladies put on provocative dresses walking around without doing anything. I went to one of the banks and I saw a lady always sanding in the banking hall of the bank whenever I go to the bank for any transaction. I called one of the tellers and I asked her what the ladies job is, I was told she is a customer relation officer. I now inquired what her duties are since she is always standing in the banking hall and I observed this for over one year. I was told that she only directs customers that walked into the banking hall. I asked the teller  the duty of the customer service officers since I saw about 3 of them sitting and attending to customers. The teller told me that, in fact, that they just wanted her there just doing nothing.

In the United States, you see very minute number of staff in a bank. But here in Nigeria, you see people who carry themselves as if they are lord. Leave the live of barons who deal on drugs. Manipulate accounts of people customers and say that they are wonder bankers.

Oga, i'm sorry but u are not correct. Thankfully, people like @GboyegaD and @kay-Dee have attempted to shed light on oversights u probably made in error.
Are there some branches that are over staff? Maybe, but i surely did not see any while i worked at the bank. Dont forget, even with all the technology available, people still like going to the banks to do their transactions and they want quick service, thats what gives the "wow" experience as a customer.
Like someone stated, i personally have entered enough wells fargo branches here where there is a designated person that says "hi, welcome to wells fargos" and even though nobody really goes to the branches in the US unless u absolutely have something to do that can not be done by phone or online (trust me, people go to bank twice a year) there are still a hand full of bankers everywhere at the branch.

IbroSaunks:

can someone please kindly explain to me how this is sanusi's fault?
If u still need someone to explain to you by now if its snausi's fault, then too bad.

madprof:

True. Banks have over the last couple of years realized that they spend more than is justifiable on overhead costs. Depending on the size of the branch, it costs at least N150,000/month to buy diesel to run a generator in a branch (you will still pay NEPA bill of maybe the same amount). By the time you add staff salaries, premises maintenance, cash insurance and other costs you will arrive at a monthly expense sheet that runs into millions. Mind you, the branch may not even be making profit and if it is not, how is it supposed to pay for these expenses? This is common sense: if you had your own small business and you discovered that you were spending more than you were making what would be the most logical thing to do?
Job cuts are just one aspect of expense control that banks use. If a bank realizes that staff costs are too high there are two main options: slash jobs or slash salaries. Which is better, slashing salaries so that everyone can stay (under)employed but with poor pay, or slashing jobs so that fewer people will be employed but paid competitively?
I believe that Nigerian banks are being made to tread the path of financial prudence at least. That is the main thrust of Sanusi's reforms. For one thing, in today's banking sector customers no longer lose their deposits due to collapse of a bank.
For your information, the banks are already doing both, that is underpaying its staff and still sacking alot of people.
The truth is cost of Operation in Nigeria is abnormally high if u consider u have to provide all the utilities for your self (like u have already pointed out)

I got this broadcast on BBM yesterday. However skeptical or cynical you may be about it in my opinion its worth a try and is a welcome development. Read.

"IGP has ordered the dismantle of all road blocks.

Please if you see these men on the street in your area, do not act as if it is not you business. Take your phone, snap a picture of them from far away and send it to publisher@ngmix.net

The IGP has done his own part, do not think that the man can see the entire country from his desk. It is up to the rest of us to play our part and help this nation.

You can have my word on this, I promise you that we will publish the picture when you send it and we will also contact the IGP to report the situation. Do not forget to send the location because that will be his first question.

Do not leave it to the next guy, play your part today and make Nigeria a better country. Send all pictures to publisher@ngmix.net"

Nice idea, something has to be done, that's innocent human beings who have done nothing wrong in terms of mass embezzlement of funds dying for nothing. (or should i say died cos they are broke.)

@debosky: my friend ur last statement shows a great poverty of ambition as an arsenal fan.
Is your goal to finish above United or to win something for ur fans to be proud of
United have one 4 EPl's back to back and they dont even brag about it.
United got to the UCL final last year wit a tremendously weakened squad and threats of their best player leaving (rooney)
United lost last year;s UCL final to a team that will go down in history as a side that no one had the solution to unlock.
United won the EPL the following year after 2 of its most performing players left (CR7 and tevez) without lamenting on frivolous excuses like some other club fan boys always do. (if wilshere had played, if this, if that, come on guys!)
Which club got to the UCL final 3 times in 4 years? (anybody? do i hear Manchester?)

United cant win everything all the time that's just life, so dont use united not qualifying for the knock out round of the ucl as a reason of u being better cos u are not even close and i don't mean it in a condescending manner.
Even barca the great (which i totally respect as a club) where not always the best, when i started watching football, real madrid were the dominant force in soccer world, thrashing barca home and way (with no pity) -  when "raul was raul".

i used to like aresnal in the kanu era and all that nice playing, fluid football that has obviously eluded them now. But to mention arsenal and united in the same breath (esp with that tone) is just not fair and u know it. U should be an ambassador for good football first before ur team. (cos its the sport we love first, all other things have to come second).

^^^^^^^Exactly, Unity Bank?
those of us that worked in the bank know unity bank ain't got s.h.*.t. so how come they are still alive?

And true, i remember the crisis u speak of, that rocked the banking sector yrs bank (my dad never got he's money from allied bank) but soludo brought a great deal of sanity to the industry, dont forget he reduced it from almost 90 to 25. thats no small fit.
Was soludo perfect? no way, but he did a hell of a good job, and it was there for all of us to see.
SLS is going about the right solution in the wrong way. Just like everything else with nigeria (going about susidy removal first, like if that will some how solve the whole problem)

Politics / Re: Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab Knows His Fate Today by bigsean(m): 1:53pm On Feb 16, 2012
They should hang the stupid guy by the balls or
they should allow him light he's pants on fire to death, since he was so willing to do it like two years ago, so what are we talking about.
just give him a secluded place with no harm to any other human, and let him set he;s balls on fire, or they;ll do it for him if liver fail am again like in the plane.
he is a shame to nigerians.
I would have said "nigerians may be a lot of things but we are not terrorist", but boko haram have proved me dead wrong and after watching that video of the nigerian cop blown to death by a boko haram bomb live on camera, i fear my head! shocked
its funny how fast the country is degenerating, but some people are too blind to see beyond their nose.

Why are pple so daft, what is the fault of Sanusi in trying to restructure Nigerian economy. If u r knowledgeable, u will thank ur God 4 having someone like him at this point in time.

SLS or Soludo?
Career / Re: Ecobank Commences Mass Sack Of Oceanic Bank Staff by bigsean(m): 1:41pm On Feb 16, 2012
@Olupraise, u are correct, how can unity bank of all banks survive and u dont give oceanic and inter a fighting chance, SLS handled it very poorly, soludo did a very marvelous job and he will forever earn my respect.
I dont care if u are from the north or south, if u studied islamic studies or (CTU) counter terrorism Unit (that's a "24" reference,  grin) as long as u do a good job, people will recognize u.
SLS has done nothing tangible yet to left up the sector beyond how he inherited it.SHAME!
Career / Re: Ecobank Commences Mass Sack Of Oceanic Bank Staff by bigsean(m): 1:34pm On Feb 16, 2012
@poster, thanks for the info, but i'm sure all the oceanic bank staff saw it coming.
The banking industry is dying in nigeria in terms of creating jobs for nigerians and no matter what u say about ex md's of the banks, SLS is the biggest culprit of them all.
I pity all my friends still working in the banking industry, but i actually have more pity on the ones that have been revealed of their jobs.
This is probably the best time for the phrase "God dey"
not good news by any stretch of the imagination

tttonero:

This goes on all over the world.

that is a very myopic thing to say. Do u have any idea the unemployment rate "all over the world" and what it is in Nigeria.

Nigeria is getting worse in our very own eyes.

I think Rio was wrong to refuse to shake Suarez too. We expect 'veterans' like him to show how it should be done and not retaliate foolishly. Two wrongs is a waste of time
Sorry i respectfully disagree, as a veteran Rio showed that he will not tolerate racism in any form, and he did not shake suarez.
i tried to give suarez a "long rope" of excuses prior to today, cos even though i'm a united fan, i'm also a fan of good footballers and suarez is a great football talent, but with he's resulting action today, he is both childish and racist, and i also can not respect someone with such traits.

Suarez is a shame to football (i was he's fan at the worldcup becos of he's talent, but its obvious he's not a true sports man, he might not be a racist, but he's definitely not a good sports man)

elampiro:

Was it not Howarf Web that gave Chelsea the title two seasons ago. Drogba was at least 5 yard offside when the ball was passed yet the linesman did not wave and Drogba scored. Then Ferguson brought in Nani and co he had reserved for champions league match against Bayern Munich. The temple of the match changed and Man U pulled one back immediately to make it 2-1. Again Macheida scored a late goal but Webb ruled it out claiming Macheida controlled with his hand. Several replays showed Macheida never touched the ball with his hand. Chelsea won 2-1 in a game they should have lost, and they won the league with only one point over Man U. That match was played in late part of the season and it was a decisive period.
@elampiro, pls tell the house, cos its obvious people are using what we call selective memory, we lost the season that year cos of very bad and wrong decisions by this same howard webb, i didnt hear anyone clamouring for united that Web is a Chelsea fan. thankgod United fans are more matured to see beyond trivial sentiments.
Its just funny how people can hate on someones success. United was the better team, and stop hating on us just cos of our laurels.

"why are scums saying howard webb helped United like penalties arent part of the game, If anything, he didnt show any cards for the penalties caused and he should have blown 2 more for United and chelsea at best, should have finished with 9 men, Howard webb has missed a lot of big calls, and you city fans, should keep quiet! Becos it was howard webb who missed balotelli's stamp on parker before he scored, that is 2 extra points he gave city there , "
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Chelsea Vs Manchester United (3 - 3) On Sunday 5th February 2012 by bigsean(m): 7:40pm On Feb 05, 2012
And people lets be real for a second, are u saying that there is no justification for that second penalty?
Come on ivanovic stretches to stop welbeck, did not get the ball, obstructed welbecks attempt on goal and u guys are surprised it is a penalty, abeg abeg, abeg.
he stretched, made no contact what so ever with the ball and tripped a goal threatening move "in the a 18-box".

Pls people stop choosing the lazy way out and blaming the referee, when he obviously did a good job to the best of he's human eye ability.
Even if the refree got it wrong, i don't see NL going crazy when we have a penalty (or any decision going against United, for instance, the penalty against united in the game btw Newcastle vs United at Old traford)
