Business / Re: GTBank Shuts Down HiTV Premises & Puts It Into Receivership by bigsean(m): 9:51pm On Nov 24, 2011
Haha, HITV, Ofcos must people saw this coming.
What a shame!!!
Jimmy Boy:

N9b is a lot of money but I doubt if GTB can recoup their money by liquidating HITV because good chunk of that money must have been used to acquire premiership rights for the period it lasted. So there can't be any physical asset that will be equall in value to the loan sum. Operating HiTV by reciever/manager or using competent consultants would have been better. The negative publicity that this type of rambo style takeover does not help either side, banks have been taking over organizations quietly without any negative publicity. Thumbsdown GTbank.
I totally agree with these post @jimmy
Sports / Re: Mikel Obi Starts For Chelsea But Turned Down Super Eagles Call by bigsean(m): 2:23pm On Nov 21, 2011
Mikel!!!
Overhyped brat, I think nigeria as a country will be better of if we take the time and look for better players both locally and internationally.
Let's face it, mikel had a lot if promise; but never really matured into a good player, either cos of choice of club or maybe he was never really that good in the first place
TV/Movies / Re: Is Nollywood Rivaling Black Hollywood? by bigsean(m): 9:24pm On Nov 18, 2011
Nollywood and Hollywood Black actors combining, NOT HAPPENING!!!!
Before some people crucify me, pls hear me out.
1) Genuinely, there's a cultural difference in what we consider entertainment (ask "akata" to watch basket mouth, and u will see exactly what i mean)

2) nigerians watch 9ja movies and hollywood movies (honestly, we watch everything, Chinese, Indian etc, grin.lol), black americans watch hollywood movies and tyler perry!

Featuring roles on both parties would be a great idea, but we would watch, if osifo (for example), was in a tyler perry movie, will the international media watch if halle berry was in a nigeria directors movie (dont know any 9ja director's name of the top of my head, lol), will it generate the revenue to be profitable

Its just an unwritten law in nig, if u earn above a certain tax bracket, U must get Gun, (on code oh)
Politics / Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by bigsean(m): 11:24pm On Nov 16, 2011
@2buff, as much as i see ur point, the price to pay for everyone having a gun go nastily high oh.
Altough, on code i go get gun 1st thing if i show nig, no stories.

Unfortunately, guns are already out there in peoples hands illegally, (na 9ja we dey oh, no dulling!)
As much as self defense and protection is essential in a society that is failing to protect its citizenry, i cant help but think of the heavy price to pay when all does zombies get a hand on one (like a previous comment above rightly described some of our fellow Nigerians).
Its hard for me to take a position on this subject, cos i personally want a gun to protect myself from this clowns, but what happens if the next guy on the street is a lunatic and he too is in possession of a gun (i'm Zap.e.d!)
Politics / Re: Which Country Would You Have Chosen To Be Born? by bigsean(m): 4:26pm On Nov 16, 2011
@okija and @jmoore
lol, like i said earlier, i'm enjoying the humor from peoples response to this topic even though a greater number of people are still replying the topic question with answers to "where they would chose to live/stay"
Maybe i sounded a lil bit harsh by using the word "ignorant" in my previous post so for that i apologize (see, i'm nice and charming by default  grin)

@okija, "Kunta kinte", really bro?
the question is not "where u want to be born during the slavery era" BTW, how can u even prove we are not worse off right now? (i'm just saying), considering we do not have statistics to back up the following:
1) child slavery and abuse
2) police or uniform men brutality and so on

Let me give a brief run down, when a nation is wore torn or on the brick of crisis, do u know what most developed countries do? they spend their tax payers money to make sure they get every single one of their citizens out of that zone (no exceptions). should i tell u what our leaders do with our tax money? ur guess is as good as mine.  (Titty Bar is definitely among grin)

True, US has its history, but the people fought for it. What have we the citizenry in Nigeria done?
(1) If Abacha didn't die of natural causes, i bet he would still be ruling us till this very day, nobody will cough
2) Can u think of the nig. military respecting the right of the people like how the Egyptian forces did during their uprising? )

Choosing to grow or be born in a society because of the incentive "that things don't work" or are not organized is really amazing.
Well, everybody has their reason sha! But like i tried to point out in my initial post, i would just appreciate it if you/we could state the reason we prefer nig (or any other country than just blind patriotism.)

I believe this BH amnesty ploy should be given a chance to fail first,

grin
like stated in the quote above, lets give it a chance (fail or not). But i would love to see a more decisive leader in action in this situation. GEJ has to make life uncomfortable for this rebels or murders before they can even consider surrendering (no be by mouth).

^^^^^ I totally admire and commend your enthusiasm on trying to elicit an answer for your rhetorical questions (yes, i know the meaning. Do u? cheesy)
Only if the person or people u so honorable support were half as enthusiastic as you to prove to the world that they are clean and accountable with government funds.
By virtue of his past electoral position, the responsibility is on him to prove that he is accountable with public funds.
By the way, calm down with your various forms of govt. rhetorics (Oga, kindly find the meaning of that as well before u ask me if i know the meaning grin)
Travel / Re: Bola Ahmed Tinubu's First Nation Airline Begins Operation by bigsean(m): 2:03pm On Nov 16, 2011
@EKo Ile^^^^^^ if we were talking about another country, maybe (just maybe) your questions would have had some form of merit.
But no we are talking about our dear country and as much as it have been easier to not answer your questions (cos they are obviously rhetorical) i would try to make it as succinct as possible.
In one word, Accountability!
Nigerian govt/ex-officials are accountable to no one.

Too many scenarios to back up the answer, chose ur best pick. I'm actually having problems picking my top 5 favorite scenarios

Politics / Re: Which Country Would You Have Chosen To Be Born? by bigsean(m): 12:50pm On Nov 16, 2011
i just read a few comments and i had to look at the forum for this post, cos the replies sound like jokes to me.
The question is not where u would love to stay/live, the question, to the best of my knowledge is "which country would u have chosen to be born?"
to answer that question, u would want put into consideration, the advantages u stand to gain in being a citizen of that country by right of birth and equipped with that answer i cant see why someone will look beyond USA and Canada (to the best of my knowledge, i dont mind being informed of adv of other countries).
How would anyone even say they wish to be born in Nigeria, that's just ignorant. What has being a nigerian citizen done for you? (apart from being looked at as 419,a and recently hub for terrorists by the international community).
The nig govt is not even working to redeem our international image is in in free fall.

Labored myself to read the whole 6 pages of comments and yes every one had great contributions.
Relationship can be tough and i have had my fair share.
As sad and insensitive as it may sound sometimess u have to disassociate emotions when u have to take a decision on your emotional life and i think you did the right thing, by calling it off (now i'm assuming your side of the story is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth grin, cos there are always 3 sides to any story, "u side, her side and the truth! cheesy cheesy cheesy" )
In other words "Free that Babe!!!"

Only in Nigeria, an ex-govt official can spend/ invest an insane amount of money and there would be no questions asked or enquiry set-up from the Nigerian tax body (like the IRS of US) or from even the tax payers (like us).
How is the country ever ever going to progress when, theft and ill-gotten wealth is rewarded.
Its funny how we think in nigeria, where the ridiculous is now norm.
Politics / Re: Shortage Of Medals Mars National Awards - National Mirror by bigsean(m): 11:56am On Nov 16, 2011
@slap1, said this country should be merged with Iran, that's really funny, but you know what, Unfortunately, Iran is actually better/more effiect than us in organizing things if you look at it carefully. (in-spite of all the sanctions and public out cry, the are hell bent on building nuclear weapons and are resolute in wiping out Israel with it, lol)

@ib55, said he misses Abacha, i have never insulted anyone before on nairaland (and i never will), but trust me ur comment brought me really close to doing so. Goodluck is a shame of a leader, but that is no reason to compare he's administration to Abacha. How old were u during the Abacha regime that u have quickly forgotten the sanctions and everything else we were experiencing then. Goodluck is horrible, but pls dont mention any Abacha!

@harakiri, i dont know u, but i have to say ur insights are spot on.
I just hope u can appreciate the level of brainwashing the church (actually, religion in general) has been doing for centuries now.
so don't blame anyone if they discard ur write-ups with/without doing their unbiased research, its just goes to show the effectiveness of the system (religious brainwash).

Do people think the American forefathers were stupid for them to right into law the concept of" the separation of church and state".
They had seen what had happened in Europe and all that.

I can't laugh enough at what some pple actually believe with no fact to base it on. "God help us" lol
Family / Re: Husband Paid His Wife House Rent For Good 10 Years: Unknownly by bigsean(m): 9:04pm On Oct 19, 2011
Its difficult to comment on this subject because the poster really gave just 5% of the full gist.
But if i must add my little voice based on what i perceive from the subject and from previous responses, i have to say alot of us (nairalander's) are ignoring a very salient point here, TRUST.
This is 100% a trust issue, if u can live a lie for 10yrs with ur spouse then every single action before and during the marriage is up for review because u cant be trusted for anything.

Marriage is not meant to be business, charging your husband rent for house which both of u stay-in, come on guys. totally unimaginable (i hope this story is fabricated, cos if not, i pity the husband).
Also, i read some response that, supporting the woman's action, that why should they be in a rent for 10years. I'm sorry but that reasoning doesn't even "hold any water". What is wrong is wrong, !

the point is, it has not been Nigeria's time for a very long time now. Cant remember the last time the Eagles played well or dominated soccer in Africa, we have not been on a decline, we have been consistent, yes, consistently bad, grin
Sports / Re: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by bigsean(m): 1:05am On Oct 09, 2011
marutimon:

Its almost official: Were it not for that late minute eqaulizer Nigeria would have qualified as a second placed team. Honestly, Guinea didn't even need the draw to progress! Even with the lost they would have won the group!

So far the pots are as follows:

POT I:
Equitoreal Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire

POT II:
Burkina Faso (TBC - awaiting CAF ruling), Senegal, Morocco (TBC), Tunisia

POT III:
Libya, Mali, Guinea, Zambia

POT IV:
Angola, Niger, Botswana, Sudan (TBC)

Looks like Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire should be strong favourites to win. With Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa out, Senegal and Morocco are the only real competition. Zambia and Mali could be a dark horse, but I can't see them beating either Cote d'Ivoire or Ghana. If Burkina Faso and Morocco don't qualify than this is this easiest CAN ever to win,

Sorry bro, but i dont agree with u, cos if it was going to be the easiest CAN, then NIgeria should have qualified easily, but we didnt (cos we are not good enough, thats the fact).
Like someone stated earlier, Guinea didnt even need to draw this game to finish top of the group, yet we couldn't beat them, SHAME!!!

I am going to blame the above on your upbringing. I you ever get yourself mature enough to debate what is said without producing the type of jargon you have above, feel free to try.

last time i checked i tot personal attack was not allowed, anyway, "some mothers do have them" grin
Lets be more matured about our opinions, legalizing prostitution is an ill timed discussion for now in Nigeria.
