Also check to see what network type your mobile phone is connected to - 3G, 4G or 5G? It might also be good if you swap around these to see which gives you the best connectivity while on the move. In some areas, they have turned off 3G while in others 4G might be stronger than 5G. O2 also has coverage checker online, you can use that to check the best network in your area or during commute.

I just created this account following a friend’s advice because I’m really in a difficult situation and would appreciate any help or guidance.

I’ve been working in the UK as a care worker under the Skilled Worker (formerly Tier 2) visa route since January 2022. By January 2026, it will be four years of continuous work and I was looking forward to applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) by January 2027.

Unfortunately, my employer recently shut down the agency and informed us that they’ll be notifying the Home Office, which means I’ll soon lose my sponsorship. I’m extremely anxious because I’ve worked so hard over the years and don’t want everything I’ve gone through to be in vain.

If anyone here has contacts, recommendations, or leads to care agencies or employers currently offering Health and Care Worker visa sponsorships, please kindly reach out or share. I’d be deeply grateful for any assistance, advice, or even guidance on what steps I should take next.

Benefits/public funds are broader and more complex than what is being discussed on this thread.

For example, there are in-work benefits for those who are employed but on a low income and this includes financial support like housing benefit, universal credit and council tax reduction. Many people/families receive this type of financial support to "top-up" their earnings and many migrants on lower incomes will also require/be eligible for this.

There are other types of benefits such child benefit, child care funding etc - which can add up to hundreds of pounds a month- that the vast majority of working families also receive unless you're a very high earner.

Benefits go beyond the stereotypical "sit at home and claim job seekers allowance of £92 a week"

Hmmn, I don't think that would be termed as "self-sponsorship" since the COS won't be issused to the company's director. But if you’re asking whether it can work: yes. I’ve seen small tech startups obtain a sponsor licence and successfully sponsor non-director employees.

Manchester, Leeds, Scotland and Newcastle all have a fair share of high paying roles that can be sponsored though.

I understand ILR eligibility requires 180 days presence out of 365 days, Will my daughter be impacted if I apply for ILR next year for the entire family? She would have been back before the ILR application.

Not exactly cheap though but very spacious compared to what you get in London. Of course you can still get cheaper ones(HMOs and shared) but cost of living generally affordable.

Yea if you are in Tech, most roles are remote for now and makes sense to live in the North doing that. West Midlands looks a bit pricey still cos of it's proximity to London
