APC and PDP billborads at Orita-Olaiya junction in Oshogbo. The two billboards are erected side by side at the same junction with these inscriptions: APC: Vote Good Governance not Good luck PDP: Vote Democrat not Dictator But come to think of it, which inscription will truly deliver this country?

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said he had lived up to his campaign pledge to Nigerians that he would make the power sector a priority for his administration. Jonathan spoke during the inauguration of the Olorunsogo II Power Station in Ogun State. The power plant is a 750MW Nigerian Integrated Power Project. “I have lived up to my campaign pledge to make the power sector a priority,”Jonathan told the gathering that included members of the Federal Executive Council, Peoples Democratic Party chiefs from Ogun State and leading traditional rulers. Jonathan said although it was capital intensive to make a difference in the power sector, his administration had been tackling it headlong. He said the short interface between public ownership of power sector to private sector would soon be over. With that session over, the President said Nigerians would begin to take power for granted in the next two years. He said, “The interface between 100 per cent ownership of the power sector by government and 100 percent ownership by private sector will soon be over. “In the next two years, Nigerians can take power sector for granted like it is obtainable in other countries.” He said he was confident that Nigeria is moving in the right direction under his watch. He described the power plant as the second largest NIPP power station in the country. The President urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its desire to improve electricity. http://www.punchng.com/news/i-have-fulfilled-my-promise-on-power-sector-jonathan/ |

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe on Monday confessed that he never thought the All Progressives Congress (APC) would still be in existence by now. It would be recalled that Okupe had mocked the party, saying it was suffering from leadership deficiency shortly after it was founded. Okupe had said in December 2013, “What kind of political party is that and you are taking them seriously,” he continued, “It is a politically defective and weak organisation, and by coming to the national stage, the wind is going to blow them open. If they don’t crumble and disappear by 2014, don’t call me Okupe. The APC boat is destined for the Red Sea.” Some reports published at the time APC was barely a month, had it that Okupe swore that he should be called “a bastard” if the party lasts beyond a year. He has however denied ever making such a statement. However, the presidential aide who spoke yesterday during a programme on Silverbird Television, congratulated the APC, even as he boasted that his criticism contributed to the party’s growth. Okupe corrected that, “I said if APC survives for a year, I would change my name. People have said I meant bastard, but I never said so. What I said as a political pundit was that if APC survives, I would change my name.” He continued, “If Manchester United want to play with Man City, and I say Man United would score three goals in first half, if they don’t score three goals in the first half, it means that my statements were wrong. “Maybe I have actually helped them, because they were very annoyed at my predictions and they tried to make sure that they remain the same.” While alleging that the media is dominated by those who are sympathetic to the APC, Okupe rated the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan very high as regards performance in office and called on Nigerians to support his re-election bid. Stressing that “This government has achieved so much and we are not deceiving people because our achievements are verifiable,” he explained that “All the 24 airports in the country have been remodeled. The Benin-Ore road used to be a death trap and people used to spend 24 hours on it, but now they spend three hours. “The Lagos-Ibadan has been built since 1976 and since then nobody has done anything about it until this government decided to extend it to seven lanes. “If people deliberately refuse to see and the media continues to underpin the achievements of this government, we would keep trying and God will justify us. We don’t have the media behind us but we have God behind us,” he said. Meanwhile, Okupe contradicted himself when his host told him that the media’s lack of sympathy to the President was an indictment on those managing the image of the president, stressing that “It’s not that the opposition has taken over the media, no! He then said “But the elements within the opposition and the sentiments concerning the opposition have dominated the media prior to this event of Jonathan coming into power. Which media organisation in Nigeria can you say the government owns? The government does not own any media but the opposition has tremendous influence in the media and that's unaguable http://dailypost.ng/2015/01/27/never-thought-apc-last-long-okupe/ |

The Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) on Monday in Abuja said the 2015 presidential debates would hold between Jan. 28 and Feb 5. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NEDG, Mr Sola Omole, disclosed this to newsmen after a meeting of the board, hosted by the former Chairman of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi. Omole said that the Directors-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisations of the 14 participating political parties would open the floor on Jan. 28. This, according to him, will be followed by the Vice-Presidential debates, billed for Jan. 29. He said the debates involving the presidential candidates would hold in two sessions and would climax on Feb. 5. Omole said that the group had contacted all the parties involved, adding that they all support the idea. “We believe that debates are very important components of the democratic process aimed at giving the candidates the opportunity to speak directly to Nigerians. “We want the Nigerian community to get used to the business of debating issues and we feel that this is a very strong part of building that culture. “We have met with all the political parties, those we couldn’t meet directly, we contacted their senior officials and they are very supportive of the initiative,’’ he said. Reports have it that NEDG is a coalition of broadcast, civil society and professional organisations, committed to deepening the country’s democracy. It is also aimed at entrenching an enduring democratic culture through organised television debates since the return of democratic rule in 1999. NEDG has put together the presidential debates to give the Nigerian electorate an opportunity to hear directly from all the presidential candidates. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/2015-nedg-releases-timetable-presidential-debates/ Another report has that APC may not participate in the debate because they observed that NEDG cannot organize a credible debate being a Pro PDP group. Read on below: The Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) provided revised timetables for the anticipated presidential debates to SaharaReporters in an interview. A NEDG official, with the group for many years, confirmed that there will be a total of six televised vice presidential and presidential debates on Feb. 1 and Feb. 8. President Goodluck Jonathan as a lone debater during the 2011 NEDG Presidential Debate Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not yet confirmed his attendance for any NEDG organized debate, according to a senior NEDG official. A letter was sent to SaharaReporters last week from The Nigeria Group, stating that APC should be weary of participating in any event organized by NEDG because of their alleged pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stance. “NEDG cannot organize a credible debate…given its current composition,” and claimed that PDP received the debate questions in advance. Reports emerged last week that a second group, with an alleged pro-APC stance, was organizing debates to counter NEDG’s. An official from an international election monitoring group told SaharaReporters that, “there are now two competing groups organizing debates, but neither platform has confirmation of both main [APC and PDP] presidential candidates.” When asked to comment a senior NEDG official said “NEDG is the only recognized platform for debate,” and cited its role in organizing the 2011 debates. No information on this alleged second group has emerged at the time of writing, and neither official could confirm any details. The debates are expected to feature the four leading political parties, including PDP and APC, but NEDG is currently waiting for the list of established political parties from the Independent National Election Commission (INEC), a NEDG official told Sahara Reporters. It is expected that vice presidential debates will be held on Feb. 1 and the presidential debates will be held on Feb. 8. The structure will have 3 two-hour sessions per day, and are expected to be televised on AIT, NTA, TV Continental, and Silverbird TV. NEDG is in early discussions with famed Nigerian broadcast journalist John Momoh to be the moderator, and will include two additional panelists. According to NEDG, the debate times will be 12:00-14:00, 15:00-17:00, and 19:00-21:00 West Africa Time Zone. http://saharareporters.com/2015/01/27/nigeriadecides-2015-presidential-debate-timetable-confirmed-despite-controversy |

A report done by CC Hub in Lagos about how Nigerian students use their mobile phones with over 5000 students used for the researched. Revealed that the average Nigerian student uses their phones mainly for social networking and chatting with Apps like BBM, 2GO, Whatsapp, Facebook and Facebook chat, twitter % others. Social networking covered almost 90% of what the average nigerian student uses their phones for. In another news, the research revealed that 50% of the students use mobile internet browsing as one of the most common use of their monthly subscription. Not only the working class have multiple mobile phones in Nigeria, In the research result it is stated that Students also have more than one mobile phone thus using more than one mobile Network. This is a good information for entrepreneurs looking to market to students through Mobile marketing or SMS. 20% of Nigerian students use their phones more for phone calls than other activities. This is an interesting fact which shows that chatting and other activities have reduced the time people spend calling. Finally the average Nigerian student uses a fraction of their monthly allowance on buying mobile data plan and less of mobile phone credit. Interesting facts from the research shows the change in behavior with technology playing a key role within Nigerian Youths. https://mentor.mara.com/how-nigerian-students-use-their-mobile-phones/ |
Stumbled on this and I think it worth sharing: 1. Livestock Farming Livestock farming is a booming business in Nigeria and the trend is not dying anytime soon. With 150+million mouths to feed daily, there will always be demand for livestock products. However, lack of technical know-how and the use of crude equipment are the major factors hampering the growth of this industry. If you can come in with adequate knowledge and the patience to nurture this business, you will reap immensely. Now you can choose to either venture into livestock breeding of animals or better still, you can stick to livestock feed production or equipment retailing. ◦Poultry farming – Egg production, meat production, hatchery or day-old-chicks production, etc. ◦Cattle Farming – Diary (milk) production, beef, etc. ◦Goat Farming ◦Sheep ◦Fish Farming ◦Piggery ◦Grasscutter Farming ◦Snail Farming 2. Agro-products exportation Nigeria is blessed with a lot of food and natural resources; and most of these natural resources are raw materials needed for the production of some finished products. Every day, tons of raw materials and food products leave the shores of Nigeria to countries such as India, Vietnam, China, USA, UK, Brazil, etc; yet, the demand is never met. You can become an exporter by simply registering with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and decide on the specific product you wish to export. Examples of products highly in demand are Chili pepper, Kola nuts, Bitter Kola, Cassava flakes (Garri), Cocoa, Groundnut, Yam flour, Cashew nuts, etc. 3. Mining Nigeria is blessed with a lot of mineral resources like Limestone, Coal, Iron ore, Bitumen, etc. Aside this, the mining industry in Nigeria is set to take off because the federal government in June 2013 implemented a policy to drive forward the mining industry by declaring the importation of mining equipment duty free. The government is also going after many dormant investors who were granted mining licenses but are not utilizing it. This act I believe, will spur the growth in the mining sector. If you have the financial capacity and a team, you can position yourself in this sector. 4. Setting up a private mini refinery There are lots of business opportunities in the oil and gas sector. Building a private refinery and refining crude oil is another business you should look into because there is a lot of potential in it. In January 2012, the federal government announced the partial removal of subsidy and with a long term plan to totally remove fuel subsidy. What this means in essence is that petroleum product importers will now sell as they buy; thus bringing in competition and it is a known fact that 80% of petroleum products consumed in Nigeria are imported. Now with the total removal of fuel subsidy, investors will now have the opportunity to set up their own refinery and produce fuel. Are you among those that think the total fuel subsidy removal is a pipe dream? Then think again because in May 2013, Aliko Dangote raised $4billion for the setting up of a refinery; which will be sited in Ondo state. Enough said. 5. Inland waterway Transport There are lots of opportunities in the transport industry and inland waterway is one of them. Nigeria has a broad network of inland waterways comprising rivers, creeks, lakes and seas; yet, transportation still remains a challenge because investors are yet to tap into water transportation. A lot of countries such as Italy, Thailand, etc have effectively been utilizing their waterways as a means of transport; thus reducing the traffic congestion on the road. All you need to do is to incorporate a company, obtain license from the state and federal government, import or purchase some locally fabricated boats; and you are in business. 6. Establishing a Television and Radio Station Now it is a known fact that the mass media industry is saturated in Nigeria. However, this is only true for some cities in Nigeria such as Lagos and Abuja. I have travel through several parts of the countries and discovered that most states have no private TV station, and only rely on the government own TV stations; which are very incompetent, uncreative and unreliable. I see an opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors with interest and competence in broadcasting or mass media. You can either choose to setup a radio station or TV Station. 7. Setting up a security company There is a huge demand for excellent security services in Nigeria. As the government battle to improve the security situation in the country, individuals and corporate entities are now becoming aware of the fact that security is not the responsibility of the government alone; it is a collective responsibility. Hence, the current increase in demand for security guards, bodyguards, executive protection professionals and security gadgets or devices. As an entrepreneur or investor, you can setup a security guard recruitment or training company, or you can setup a bodyguard agency. Also, you can import and retail security products and safety devices. 8. Sewing of specialized uniforms There are over 500 schools (both Crèche, primary and secondary) in Lagos state alone; and each of these schools have a specific uniform or attire for their students. Okay, let’s look beyond educational institutions. Do you know that other individuals and corporate organizations are in need of uniforms for their security personnel, staff, etc? There are also a lot or military (Army, Air Force, Navy), paramilitary (Civil Defense Corps, Police Force) and non-paramilitary (Road Safety, Traffic Warden, Kick against Indiscipline, Vigilante groups, etc) organizations in Nigeria that make use of uniforms. You can position yourself as a uniform supplier and make money from it. 9. Construction company Nigeria is still a developing country especially in the area of infrastructure but this is set to change in the nearest future. Massive constructions are currently on-going in Nigeria ranging from bridges, roads, towers and skyscrapers, etc. If you run a construction company oversee, or you have the financial capacity to assemble the needed team and machinery for a construction company; then this is a business you should invest in. 10. Real Estate development I have met a lot of individuals with money piling up in the bank, but they don’t seem to know what to do with that money. Yet, on every business trip I make, I hear stories of people facing accommodation problems; not because they can’t afford it but because there is none within their choice of location. Also, I hear woeful stories from students in various universities and other high institutions who live under harsh conditions; not because they want to or can’t afford a comfortable place to live; but because they is no conducive apartment in close proximity to the institutions. I also know the stress, effort and resources it took me before I got an office space both within and outside Lagos. What these facts or complaints are pointing to is that there is a massive need for buildings, both residential and commercial. It is a known fact that shelter is one of the basic needs of man. Now for those who wouldn’t want to go through the ups and downs of running a business, you can choose to invest in development of hotels, school hostels for students, shopping malls, residential apartments, events and conference halls, etc. 11. Set up a writing company If you are current with trend, you would have observed that most jobs in the United States are now being outsourced to countries like Philippines, India, China, etc. And as things stand now, a trickle of such outsourcing jobs are coming to Nigeria and one of such jobs is Article Writing or Ghostwriting. Do you have passion and skill for writing? If yes, then you can either choose to write from home as a self employed freelance writer or you can setup a company, employ competent writers and source for jobs online. This business is easy to get into and it is very profitable. 12. Call center agency Have you called the customer care service of a telecom network before? Or have you tried sending a message or complaint to a corporate organization before? Do you know that those who take your calls, complaints and respond accordingly are not employees of the companies you patronize; neither do they operate in the premises of the company. If you are hearing this for the first time, then welcome to the world of “Call center outsourcing.” You can setup a call center agency and work for big companies on a contract basis. One sweet fact about this business is that you can start it from home and it doesn’t require much startup capital unless you want to scale up by employing more helping hands. 13. Recruitment Agency The labour market is becoming tougher and there are over five million unemployed youths in Nigeria. Another hard fact is that companies are no longer employing full time in-house staff; they are now using the services of recruitment agencies to employ people based on contract basis. This strategy is aimed at reducing the cost of doing business by avoiding the cost of conducting a recruitment exercise and also avoiding employee claims and benefits. This is the sole reason why banks and other companies are sacking their workers on daily basis. So rather than fight the trend, why not profit from it by setting up a recruitment agency and connect jobseekers to their dream jobs. You can also be a corporate executive headhunter and make money poaching competent staff from one company to another. 14. Importation of wears Clothing is another basic need of man. Regardless of the economy, people must wear clothes and this includes shoes, bags, underwear, perfumes, etc. Now there is a fast growing trend now and that is “Used clothes” or “Recycled clothes.” Since the economy is getting tougher and there’s need to be clothed, the masses have resolved to buying used clothes rather than new ones. Still yet, there is a market for new clothes; for men, women, and kids. You can source your materials from China, Hong Kong, Italy, France, Dubai, India, etc. 15. Haulage and logistics Haulage and logistics is another booming business in Nigeria because regardless of the weather, people must haul their goods from one location to another. In fact, haulage or trucking business is one of the most profitable businesses so far; though it is management intensive. However, you can start with just a truck and see how it goes. You can choose to focus on hauling containers for clients from the seaports to their various destinations or better still, you can choose to haul products of specific companies such as breweries, production companies, etc. You can also haul perishable goods from farms and villages to the marketplace or you can haul specialty products such as frozen foods, petroleum products, gas, etc. Now there is also an opportunity for those who want to venture into haulage business but do not want to be bugged down by management requirements. All you need to do is to buy a truck and contract it to a Haulage and logistics company; which will in turn pay you a specified amount weekly or monthly based on agreement. 16. Outsourced bus service This is another form of haulage business, but this time you will be lifting humans. This is a business that requires providing transportation services to organizations that cannot afford to buy a vehicle in-house. Your clients in this case can be schools, religious organizations, NGOs, etc. Now just imagine providing a bus and a driver, to be shared by three or more schools that can’t afford to own their own private bus; and you will catch the vision of this business. 17. e-Services Nigeria is catching on with the rest of the world with respect to technology. If you are technologically inclined, you can setup shop in Nigeria and start offering e-services to clients. Example of such e-services include Web designing and development, App development, Digital marketing services, Search Engine Optimization services, Banner design services, Bulk SMS services, Online registration of exams such as JAMB, WAEC, professional courses, etc 18. Daycare centre The demand for quality childcare service is increasing daily. Parents are now working harder just to generate enough income to keep the family going, thus leaving them with less time for the children. Now to be honest with you, there are a lot of daycare centers existing but only a few are providing exceptional services; and parents that cherish their kids are never comfortable leaving their kids in a child care centre whose environment is dirty. If you can come in with exceptional service and creativity, you will make money from this business. Another thing you must know is that you can start this business from home. 19. Training centers Every year, millions of people sit for examinations and tests in Nigeria and most of these people usually need some kind of trainings or tutorials. You can position yourself as a provider of such training and make money off this niche. Examples of trainings you can offer include skill vocational acquisition training, corporate management skill training, etc. You can also conduct tutorial for individuals writing professional exams like ICAN, WAEC, JAMB, A. LEVEL, etc. 20. Waste Management Waste management is another business with a future potential because Nigerians are yet to imbibe the habit of proper waste disposal. However, states like Lagos have been doing a lot to encourage proper waste disposal and management. Now there are several businesses you can start within the waste management niche and these include waste recycling, waste disposal, junk hauling, organic fertilizer production, etc. 21. Food processing Another profitable industry to consider is the food processing industry. The concept of this industry is simply to take raw food materials and turn them into finished products. In fact, there are a lot of businesses you can do in this niche and examples of such businesses include Tomato puree production, Garri Processing, oil palm processing, groundnut processing, Fruit juice production, Rice milling, etc. 22. Alternative Power Installation As the world goes green, and Nigeria battles her power supply challenges; there is an already established opening in Nigeria’s power sector. Even though the government has taken steps to deregulate the power sector by granting licenses for Independent Power Plants, granting a free import duty for the importation of power generation equipment and commissioning several power projects, this will never hamper the growing demand for alternative power generators such as solar panels, wind mills, Inverters, etc. You can either make money by importing and retailing these materials or you can choose to focus on installations. 23. Plantation Farming Do you have a fertile vacant land and you know that you won’t be developing any structure on it in the nearest future? Then why not start a livestock farming, crop cultivation or plantation farming. There are a lot of cash crops you can plant, nurture and forget; and they will keep providing you with steady returns annually. Examples of crops you can start a plantation around are Orange, Plantain, Kola nut, Oil palm, Cocoa, Cassava, Yam, etc. 24. Manufacturing You can also venture into small scale manufacturing of products that are in daily need. You don’t need to build a factory or industrial plant; you can start on a small scale from your room or a rented store or apartment. Products you can start manufacturing include Toothpick, Tissue paper, Serviette, chalk production, candle, Match sticks, nylons and polythene bags, cartons, paper bags, etc. 25. Bottled water production I get calls from individuals almost on daily basis who are interested in setting up a “sachet water” (Pure water) production plant. Now let me tell you the honest truth, the sachet water or pure water business is saturated and the business may die off very soon. Why did I say this? Well, I got information from a reliable source that there is a long term plan to ban the production of sachet or nylon water; so as to stem environmental degradation and checkmate blocked drainages. So once this bill is passed into law, the sachet water production industry is toast. The only solution I foresee that can keep this business afloat is the establishment of a nylon recycling plant. However, to avoid being a victim of this yet-to-be proposed policy, it is advisable you venture into bottled water products and establish yourself as a brand. http://homecomingrevolution.com/nigeria/2013/08/21/25-small-scale-business-ideas-and-opportunities-in-nigeria/ |

The Elders and Leaders council in Rivers State has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to withdraw its governorship candidate, Mr Nyesom Wike, from the governorship race in Rivers State. The chairman of the group and the former Chairman of Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, (OMPADEC) now (NDDC), Mr Albert Horsfall, on Thursday requested that President Jonathan should advise Mr Wike to step down on or before January 5 in his own interest and that of others. He said it became necessary that the PDP and the President should take the step in order to avoid losing the governorship election in the state and warned that the people would vote for only political parties that presented riverine candidates as their governorship flag bearer should Wike fail to withdraw. The group head further stressed that the people of the state would not be bought over with money or be intimidated into succumbing to injustice and slavery for the next 50 years, as a result of the failure of the state PDP to embrace zoning of the governorship position in the state. He also highlighted other issues that should be addressed. They are the ongoing reconciliation between Mr Wike and other governorship aspirants and injustice that could enslave the riverine people for the next 50 years. The riverine communities have pledged to close ranks and vote massively for the next ‘big’ party that presented a riverine candidate. The elders and leaders are from all the 23 local government areas in Rivers State. The problem of PDP in Rivers State had started when the sitting governor, Chibuike Amaechi, was suspended and his defection that followed which brought the emergence of the All Progressives Congress in the state. January 5 is a few days away. Would the former supervising minister education give up his ambition? Is it possible that president Jonathan would intervene in the case to urge the former minister to step down? Those are the questions that are waiting to be answered until the January 5 deadline. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/01/01/rivers-elders-council-seeks-withdrawal-wike-pdp-candidate/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola says Lagos State is too big to be handed over to the Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP, governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje to experiment with as he lacks experience. Fashola, who spoke on Tuesday at a Town Hall Meeting with artisans and tradesmen, said the All Progressive Congress, APC, candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, should be trusted to govern and lead Lagos State in the right direction as he has the needed experience to do so, having beein in government for 27 years. Though the governor did not mention Agbaje’s name, he was referring to him when he advised Lagosians not to trade experience in government business for experiment and trial and error that the opposition (PDP) wanted to bank on. According to him, Ambode is better suited for the state’s number one job because of his competence saying he worked with him for over six years as Accountant General of the State and would start from where he handed over the baton to him. He said he could thump his chest and vouch for the governorship candidate of the APC in Lagos State as one who would be a worthy successor to him. Backing his contention with several anecdotes, the governor urged residents of Lagos not to make the mistake of electing someone without cognate experience who would only end up wobbling and fumbling with the fortunes of Lagos. Fashola stated that he was ready to defend his stewardship in office at any time and at any forum if called upon to do so because his government had been very impactful to the lives of the average residents of the state. He thanked the artisans, tradesmen and farmers for their honesty and truthfulness about the positive change that has come into their lives through the activities of the State Government in the informal sector. The governor said he wholeheartedly supports their request for a continuation of the prosperity that is being enjoyed in the informal and agricultural sector under the present administration, adding that the only way such continuity could be actualized is by voting to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerges victorious at all levels in Lagos State and the federal elevel in 2015. He stressed that this is the time and period for Nigerians to make very important decisions about their lives as the elections approach and that the people should be bold to take up their leaders on what they have done with the time they have spent in office before asking for renewal of tenures. The governor added that when President Goodluck Jonathan was seeking the votes of Nigerians before his first term in office, one of his sloganeering catch phrases was that as a child he had no shoes and walked barefooted but that now the campaigns would be about issues as the era of having no shoes to curry sympathy was gone. Fashola said the President also made several promises such as the one he made in Lagos during the campaigns in 2011, where he promised to reconstruct the road leading to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, adding that four years after, nothing had happened in Lagos. Speaking at the event, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, running mate to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate, called on Nigerians not to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan, as doing so will only attract hunger. He said Nigeria under Jonathan had already entrenched deep poverty and that retaining him for a second term would mean more hunger, and that the time had come for power to change hand at the centre. Also speaking, the APC Lagos governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode said APC from the period of Bola Tinubu to Governor Babatunde Fashola has continuously provided good governance to the people of the state, saying if voted into power, his government would not deviate from the principle. He appealed to Lagos residents to vote massively for him during the governorship election and for General Buhari at the presidential election next year. “Our promise to you as a party is to provide good governance and able leadership. We want to take good care of your businesses. If you have been making N1000 profit before, what we want for you is, after providing all the facilities you need for your business, that your profit swells to N10, 000. “We know that when you make more profit, you will have more to take care of yourself, your children and your home. We promise not to stress you with our policies. I also want to remind you that no matter what we do, if we do not take over the central government, we may be hindered in a way and may not be able to provide all that we want to provide for you,” he said. According to Ambode, “there must be change of government at the Federal level. APC must take over in Abuja. In Lagos, we remember where the former Governor Bola Tinubu started from and how Governor Fashola consolidated on his achievements and raised the bar, that is what we want to continue in Lagos.” www.nigerianeye.com/2014/12/jimi-agbaje-cant-govern-lagos-fashola.html?m=1 |

Below is a press statement from the office of former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu... For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fueling unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship. My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development. Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn’t the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe. We often debate, agree or disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page. The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in- house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos. We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its leadership. The media must be weary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs. While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of every media house to publish any story, it is important not to be part of the feeding frenzy and not to mislead the unsuspecting public. At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground where disagreements exist. That is what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos state deserves as Nigeria’s pacesetter in terms of democracy and development. Dear Property Managers... We rented a property in 2009 for 3 years. In 2012, we negotiated a renewal for another 2 years without drafting a new contract agreement but with a certain percentage of increase. This year, a new contract agreement was signed for a period of 5 years, there was no expansion on the property, the same size, same location etc. A legal fee was paid for this service (I accepted this based on the fact that a new contract was drafted). My colleagues who managed this transaction are not based in the country and decided not to involve local colleagues. Last week, I received an invoice from our facility manager requesting for brokerage fees on the renewal Are we expected to pay any brokerage fees? Please advise cheer! |
