For some people especially in Nigeria, job title is very important. They believe this is what will show on their call cards and/or e-mail signature and will help them command respect from the external people. They do not care what the job functions/responsibilities are. While job title might be necessary to consider when applying for a new job, some people prefer to look at the size of the role, the indusrty and possible opportunities that come with the job. Which one should take priority when appplying for a new job? |

She is a Nurse in one of the teaching hospitals in Lagos. she discovered she was charged to resume night duty the week her Child is 6 months. The challenge is where and how to take care for the baby at night when the mother is away on duty. All options seem to have been exhausted without a step to take: 1. The baby should be with the hubby at home. The challenge with this option is that the hubby's place of work is on the island and they stay on the mainland. He joins staff bus that usually leaves the office at 5:45 to 6 PM and doesn't get home until 8pm. Her resumption time is 7pm. she won't be able to leave home until hubby returns and the same thing happens in the morning. hubby needs to join the bus at 7 am and she might not be at home until 9 am. apart from this, the child sucks at night. 2. Engage a Nanny. No go area. where would the nanny be sleeping? 3. Invite a family member. All young family members are occupied and older ones (aged) don't want to stay in Lagos cos they would be the only one at home when everybody has gone to work (boredom) 3. Go to work with the baby. what happens when the baby is crying in the changing room and the mother is attending to a dying patient (this is extreme though) but the need to check on her baby everytime would not allow her concentrate on her job? 4. Appeal to the unit head who prepared the roster. The woman did not agree. she said they are short staffed. 5. She should resign. No go area. she supports the family financially experienced couples... how have you managed situation like this? |
whaooo!!! even me, I've learnt a lot on this thread. Thank you all for your time and those invaluable piece of information cheers |
Do we still follow this adage? is this adage really true? If yes, is it by flogging a child for every mistake or every wrong doing against parents' instruction? If this adage is not applicable today, how do you discipline a stubborn child? If you adopt this adage; how often do you use koboko, cane, belt, hand or discipline him like frog jump, press up, etc or only a good relationship betwee the parent and the child is enough to train today's child. Please your opinion counts and would help somebody manage his home |
This is very strange to him. The little boy wrote it in his play book and showed it to his dad. The guy is worried cos he only talked to the little boy for doing a wrong thing. He's getting more worried cos he did not expect such a thing from a little boy like him and doesn't even know how to appease the boy. I have decided to post it so we can all learn from people's advice |
Have you registered your car? August 1st is very close. Don't allow these officials harass you |
When we were little, we had different ambitions or what we would like to become in future. I could remember I (as a young village boy who knew nothing about life) told my teacher that l would like to become a tailor (fashion designer I meant) cos I had a cousin who was a tailor and based in the city. Whenever he made cloth for us, we were always the talk of the village cos of the style while other children's clothes were made by village tailors who knewnothing about the trend in the fashion world. One style Icould remember he made for us was GARBBAGE style. Today, I am on a different line of profession. What did you want to be when you grew up? Is that the same thing you are doing today? I am sure some of us wanted to become Pilots, Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers etc. Let's hear you out! |
It depends on some factors like: 1. The situation that surrounds the death of the person 2. Your relationship with your spouse family 3. The type of bond that existed between the 2 of you An elderly man, who lost her daughter, once shared his ordeal with me. The daughter and her hubby lived in the UK with their kids. few months after the death of the lady, her family travelled from Nigeria to pay the man a condolence visit and they met another woman. They immediately made a fresh arrangements to relocate from the house. He curses the man every time that he killed his daughter cos he wanted to bring in another woman. that might not be true you know Another scenario is that the deceased father told the living spouse only 21 days after the death of the wife that we know you loved your wife, the incident has happened, just move on with your life and find a new solace. We will say this is a good advice cos it didn't happen to us. hmmmn I think we should give some time before going into another marriage. No specific time though but and reasonable time. The deceased family lost a child, a family member. Their feelings need to be respected. They do no have any say over the kids but some families might request you allow the kids stay with them while you sponsor their programs. If this is the case and you don't have an alternative like ur mum or a family member will be with you to take care of then, then you will have to allow that and plan how to return them later |
The Federal Road Safety Commission ( FRSC ) on Tuesday said it would begin enforcement of the new drivers ’ licence and number plate on 1 August. The Lagos State Sector Commander, Chidi Nkwonta , told NAN that the decision followed the new court judgment . “ This new judgment made it very clear that as from Aug. 1 , FRSC should impound. “ So, Nigerians must discountenance that first misleading judgment and take this one because we are going to continue enforcement as from 1 August 2014. “ We never asked anybody to stop ( processing licences ) . Anybody who stopped ab initio stopped at his own peril . Neither did the court ask anybody to stop , that judgment never said anybody should “ So anybody who did so did it at his own risk and the deadline was supposed to be 30 June . Now we have extended it to 1 August, because we needed to go on appeal on the other matter . “ But right now , there is another judgment which says we can go on . So , while we are still waiting for the appeal we are going to go on with this other judgment . ” NAN reports that Justice Peter Umeadi of a Federal High Court in Anambra on 30 June , had ruled in a suit filed by Chief Ajefo Ekwo challenging FRSC ’ s powers to enforce new drivers’ licence and number plate . Umeadi said that the respondent’ s directive to change old drivers ’ licence and number plates to new was legal , valid , subsisting and in conformity with the FRSC ’ s 2007 Act and the National Road Traffic Regulations of 2012 . Nkwonta , however , said that the recent judgment had put aside the earlier judgment of the Lagos High Court ruling that the corps had no authority to produce and fix deadline for the documents . The FRSC commander said that the earlier judgment was given in error and the commission would stand by the new judgment while appealing against the earlier judgment . He said that the command had not failed to process the vehicle documents for new applicants that patronised the commission after the initial judgment . Nkwonta said that all the registration centres and 18 additional work stations in all parts of Lagos were functional and the network was effective . He said that the commission had improved in the processes as well as working at weekends to make it easy for applicants . NAN recalled that Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court in Lagos on March 26 declared that the FRSC had no legal authority to impose new number plates on motorists in the country . The judge also held that “ the ongoing exercise by the FRSC to replace the old number plate with a new one is illegal and unconstitutional because there is no law empowering it to carry out the exercise . ” Justice Tsoho delivered the judgment in a suit filed by a Lagos- based lawyer , Emmanuel Ofoegbu, against the FRSC . In the suit , Ofoegbu had challenged the power of the commission to impound vehicles of motorists who failed to acquire the new number plates . The plaintiff argued that there was no law validly made in accordance with the constitution prohibiting the use of the old number plates . Meanwhile , Justice Umeadi declared that FRSC has power to impound any vehicle which fails to register for a new number plate and arrest any motorist who fails to obtain the new drivers’ licence He said that such offender should be prosecuted according to law as from 1 August . http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/07/23/frsc-to-enforce-new-drivers-licence-number-plate-aug-1/ |

Immediate past Governor of the Central Bank and the Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II, today formally withdrew his lawsuit challenging his removal as the governor of the Apex Bank. His lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud, told the National Industrial Court that Mr Sanusi who is now the Emir of Kano wishes to withdraw his case against President Goodluck Jonathan and two other defendants in the suit. Counsel to the Federal Government, Mike Ozekhome, said they would not oppose the withdrawal but would wait till the other two cases by Sanusi pending at the Appeal Court and Federal High Court, are with drawn before he would advise his clients. The defendants did not oppose the request and the president of the court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo struck out the suit. Hearing was expected to continue in the suit, but the Emir requested that the suit be discontinued. The Federal Government on its part asked that the court should hear its motion challenging the ruling of the Federal High Court which declined jurisdiction in the suit but went ahead to transfer the case to the National Industrial Court http://m.thenigerianvoice.com/mobile/151745/1/cbn-sack-sanusi-withdraws-case-against-jonathan.html |
How Far?:How can Buhari influence this decision. Not sure he's involved |
It was announced this evening that Senate has rejected a proposal by INEC to make presidential debates mandatory during elections This came as a surprise as i do not know how they want Nigerians decide who will lead them. is it going to be based on who can share more rice or spend more money, or is the process undemocratic? Read below: THE Senate, on Thursday, rejected the proposal which seeks to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make presidential debates mandatory during elections. The lawmakers rejected the bid during the debate on the amendments to the Electoral Act 2010, on Thursday. The proposal, which was contained in the report of the Senate Committees on the Review of the 1999 Constitution and the INEC, however, approved the proposal seeking to fix the tenure of INEC commissioner The senators also rejected the bid to have all national elections held on one day, while they also rejected the proposal seeking to shift the burden of proof of electoral irregularities on INEC during election petitions. The Senate said the burden of proof of electoral irregularities during election should be on the petitioner. Other proposals rejected by the senators included that seeking to empower INEC to conduct elections into the office of the president, governor, Senate, House of Representatives and state assemblies on the same day, as well as the proposal seeking to empower INEC to exclude nominees of a candidate from elections where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of the Constitution or Electoral http://www.tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/9760-electoral-act-senate-rejects-mandatory-presidential-debate |
While interviewing Indra K. Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo, at the Aspen Ideas Festival Monday*, David Bradley, who owns The Atlantic, asked two questions that elicited as frank a discussion of work-life balance as I've seen from a U.S. CEO. Below is a lightly edited transcript. The second question was preceded by a brief discussion of Anne-Marie Slaughter's " Why Women Still Can't Have It All ." Q. You come home one day as president of the company, just appointed, and your mom is not that impressed. Would you tell that story? This is about 14 years ago. I was working in the office. I work very late, and we were in the middle of the Quaker Oats acquisition. And I got a call about 9:30 in the night from the existing chairman and CEO at that time. He said, Indra, we're going to announce you as president and put you on the board of directors ... I was overwhelmed, because look at my background and where I came from — to be president of an iconic American company and to be on the board of directors, I thought something special had happened to me. So rather than stay and work until midnight which I normally would've done because I had so much work to do, I decided to go home and share the good news with my family. I got home about 10, got into the garage, and my mother was waiting at the top of the stairs. And I said, "Mom, I've got great news for you." She said, "let the news wait. Can you go out and get some milk?" I looked in the garage and it looked like my husband was home. I said, "what time did he get home?" She said "8 o'clock." I said, "Why didn't you ask him to buy the milk?" "He's tired." Okay. We have a couple of help at home, "why didn't you ask them to get the milk?" She said, "I forgot." She said just get the milk. We need it for the morning. So like a dutiful daughter, I went out and got the milk and came back. I banged it on the counter and I said, "I had great news for you. I've just been told that I'm going to be president on the Board of Directors. And all that you want me to do is go out and get the milk, what kind of a mom are you?" And she said to me, "let me explain something to you. You might be president of PepsiCo. You might be on the board of directors. But when you enter this house, you're the wife, you're the daughter, you're the daughter-in-law, you're the mother. You're all of that. Nobody else can take that place. So leave that damned crown in the garage. And don't bring it into the house. You know I've never seen that crown." Q. What's your opinion about whether women can have it all? I don't think women can have it all. I just don't think so. We pretend we have it all. We pretend we can have it all. My husband and I have been married for 34 years. And we have two daughters. And every day you have to make a decision about whether you are going to be a wife or a mother, in fact many times during the day you have to make those decisions. And you have to co-opt a lot of people to help you. We co-opted our families to help us. We plan our lives meticulously so we can be decent parents. But if you ask our daughters, I'm not sure they will say that I've been a good mom. I'm not sure. And I try all kinds of coping mechanisms. I'll tell you a story that happened when my daughter went to Catholic school. Every Wednesday morning they had class coffee with the mothers. Class coffee for a working woman — how is it going to work? How am I going to take off 9 o'clock on Wednesday mornings? So I missed most class coffees. My daughter would come home and she would list off all the mothers that were there and say, "You were not there, mom." The first few times I would die with guilt. But I developed coping mechanisms. I called the school and I said, "give me a list of mothers that are not there." So when she came home in the evening she said, "You were not there, you were not there." And I said, "ah ha, Mrs. Redd wasn't there, Mrs. So and So wasn't there. So I'm not the only bad mother." You know, you have to cope, because you die with guilt. You just die with guilt. My observation, David, is that the biological clock and the career clock are in total conflict with each other. Total, complete conflict. When you have to have kids you have to build your career. Just as you're rising to middle management your kids need you because they're teenagers, they need you for the teenage years. And that's the time your husband becomes a teenager too, so he needs you (laughing). They need you too. What do you do? And as you grow even more, your parents need you because they're aging. So we're screwed. We have no ... we cannot have it all. Do you know what? Coping mechanisms. Train people at work. Train your family to be your extended family. You know what? When I'm in PepsiCo I travel a lot, and when my kids were tiny, especially my second one, we had strict rules on playing Nintendo. She'd call the office, and she didn't care if I was in China, Japan, India, wherever. She'd call the office, the receptionist would pick up the phone, "Can I speak to my mommy?" Everybody knows if somebody says, 'Can I speak to mommy?' It's my daughter. So she'd say, "Yes, Tyra, what can I do for you?" "I want to play Nintendo." So she has a set of questions. "Have you finished your homework?" Etc. I say this because that's what it takes. She goes through the questions and she says, "Okay, you can play Nintendo half an hour." Then she leaves me a message. "Tyra called at 5. This is the sequence of questions I went through. I've given her permission." So it's seamless parenting. But if you don't do that, I'm serious, if you don't develop mechanisms with your secretaries, with the extended office, with everybody around you, it cannot work. You know, stay at home mothering was a full time job. Being a CEO for a company is three full time jobs rolled into one. How can you do justice to all? You can't. The person who hurts the most through this whole thing is your spouse. There's no question about it. You know, Raj always said, you know what, your list is PepsiCo, PepsiCo, PepsiCo, our two kids, your mom, and then at the bottom of the list is me. There are two ways to look at it. (laughing) You should be happy you're on the list. So don't complain. (laughing) He is on the list. He is very much on the list. But you know, (laughing) sorry, David. www.businessinsider.com/pepsico-ceo-women-cant-have-it-all-2014-7?utm_content=bufferd8d63&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer |
We observed that our security agents are indeed working very hard to put an end to this madness in the of terrorism, the problem is that the prize is too big: innocent people are dying everyday. Sad! Anyway, there is good news: A terrorists’ intelligence cell headed by a businessman who participated actively in the abduction of School Girls in Chibok has been busted by troops. The man, Babuji Ya’ari who is also a member of the Youth Vigilante Group popularly known as Civilian JTF which he uses as cover while remaining an active terrorist, also spearheaded the murder of the Emir of Gwoza. His main role in the group is to spy and gather information for the terrorists group. Babuji has been coordinating several deadly attacks in Maiduguri since 2011, including the daring attacks on Customs and military locations as well as the planting of IEDs in several locations in the town. The arrest of the businessman who is known to deal in tricycles has also yielded some vital information and facilitated the arrest of other members of the terrorists’ intelligence cell who are women. One of them, Hafsat Bako had earlier escaped to Gombe State to avoid suspicion but was tracked and arrested. Prior to her arrest, Hafsat coordinated the payment of other operatives on the payroll of the group. In her confession, she disclosed that a minimum of N10,000 is paid to each operative depending on the enormity of his task. Another female suspect named Haj Kaka who doubles as an armourer and a spy for the terrorists group has also been arrested. Until their arrest, the suspects actively operated a terrorists’ intelligence cell in collaboration with others still at large. In another development, troops deployed in Goniri, Yobe State, over the weekend, had an encounter with the terrorists, resulting in casualties on both sides after the attack was successfully repelled. I have been thinking of this for some time now. Since 1914 that Nigeria was pronounced by Flora Shaw, nothing much seems to work. It is not that God has not blessed us with what we require to make things work. In fact, Nigeria to me, is one of the blessed countires in the world in terms of natural resources, talents etc but we can not still make things happen. We have heard of men of God in the past that were commanded to change their names and things turned around for them and some were also commanded to relocate and their calls were delivered. Unfortunately for this country, Flora Shaw was a sinner (a concubine to Lord Luggard) at the time she gave us the name. I am just thinking may be if we consider changing the name, we might get it right. |
Thank you |

The councillorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Saturday’s rerun in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hadji Jimoh Afolabi, has rejected his declaration as the winner of election in his ward by State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC). He confessed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate won in his ward. Hadji Jimoh, a young politician said during his emotion laden confession that he remains a loyal member of the PDP, but being a Muslim and a faithful Offa indigene, he would not claim the victory he did not win. Jimoh, contested the Shawo Southwest Offa seat, said the Electoral Commission must have declared him the winner in error. “In all the eight polling units in my ward (Shawo Southwest) the PDP lost, while the APC won convincingly in all the polling units in the rerun on August 31, 2013. I know well that the town stands for equity and justice. I know that we shall give account of all our actions on this earth one day. On the PDP allegation that he is not a member of the PDP and not the candidate of the PDP in the rerun, he challenged the Party to bring forth another candidate known to the community and to KWSIEC. He said: “I remain the authentic candidate of the PDP for Shawo Southwest Ward. I make bold to say that in all the eight polling units in my ward, the PDP lost that day. Hadji Afolabi is described by Mr. Sunday Alagbe, a mechanic in Shawo, as an easy going Alfa. Further investigation show that Jimoh is a member of the Tebleeg Islamic Movement a normadic preaching group. Jimoh during his press conference further said “As a native of this town, I don’t wish my town a bad thing. If something like this continues to happen and we decide to cover it up for one reason or the other, if not now, in the future we will account for everything. “It is very good for us to call a spade a spade anywhere we see it. By doing this, you are helping yourself and others. In the interest of peace and justice in Offa and Kwara State, KWSIEC should release the authentic results of last Saturday’s local government poll in Offa. Meanwhile, the main opposition party in the rerun election has urged President Goodluck Jonathan; the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, to prevail on KWSIEC to release the authentic result of the rerun. The APC during their press conference asserted that “The people of Offa have said that they don’t want the PDP. It is clear that Offa people want the APC. The election is a test for both the APC and the PDP. It was a test for the PDP people to correct the wrongs they have been doing, which made the people to hate them. For the APC that won, it should check itself and examine what it has been doing that makes it acceptable in Offa.” Jimoh’s confession gives the lie to the election results the KWSIEC announced on the state radio. The APC chairmanship candidate, Saheed Popoola, yesterday said the announcement of the PDP candidate as the winner was laughable, unjust and dangerous to democracy. Addressing reporters in Offa, Popoola urged well-meaning Nigerians, including President Jonathan, the IGP and Prof Jega to prevail on KWSIEC to upturn its injustice. He said the authentic results, which were obtained from the collation centres, be declared in the interest of peace, justice and progress. Popoola said: “The people of Offa Local Government, last Saturday, unequivocally decided that I, Saheed Popoola of the APC, is their choice. This choice must be respected, and we stand before God and man to declare that we stand by this choice. “We are going to do everything possible within the ambit of the law to retrieve this mandate and exercise it to the benefit of the people of Offa. We shall not rest or tire until the people’s choice is sworn in.” Popoola said the party had petitioned Radio Kwara for breaking the National Broadcasting Corporation’s (NBC’s) code. “Already, we have petitioned Radio Kwara for breaking NBC’s rules. The guideline is here on the conduct of the announcement of result of election. Also, we have petitioned the INEC over the conduct of the KWSIEC officials, who have turned themselves to be agents of the PDP. We could not identify the difference between KWSIEC and the PDP. We discovered that Dr Uthman Ajidagba is a card-carrying member of the PDP. We have petitioned them. Already, we are in the Court of Appeal. “There was a case that was going on before the election and there was a ruling last Friday. We are already in the Court of Appeal. By the grace of God, we are going to send them out of that place. Source: http://nigerianecho.com/?p=4375 |
