nedu2000: You can't simple walk to a gas plant and they'll give you the gas free!!!& besides by cutting an opening in the pipe,a vandal can swiftly connect his facility to pipe & get the gas he needs......dis can even be done by semi-crude means,up naija!!!I didn't say gas plant, i said oil fields where gas are flared.....beside i have never heard gas being sold in the black market |
I have been trying so hard to understand this scenario but i cant make sense out of it as hard as i try to....coupled especially with the recent excuse the power minister gave of the low electricity power generation the country is experiencing now, it has increased my urge to really understand this puzzle How and Why would someone go and vandalize a Gas pipeline in nigeria?? If its a crude or refine product pipeline thats understandable....But Capturing gas from a ruptured pipeline, doesn't it need a delicate and special equipment for that? The same Gas they are taking that huge risk to steal, is it not the same gas Oil companies flare at their oil fields? that is even excess load to them.....if those vandals really need the gas, cant they go to those oil fields where gas is a waste and is being flared and those oil companies will give it to them free of charge. Am i getting this thing all wrong? Someone should enlighten me........

Kayode Ajulo, has frowned at the deportation of some easterners by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, under the guise of rehabilitation or reunion. A statement issued saturday by the politician and human rights activist said the action of the Lagos State government has no basis in the nation’s law. “As a matter of fact, it was an action begat in illegality and birthed in unconstitutionality. Every Nigerian has a right to reside in any part of Nigeria without any molestation or harassment whatsoever and regardless of the name of the such infringement is described, “ he said. Ajulo described the defence of rehabilitation cum reunion offered by officials of Lagos State as “hollow, jejune, and a gratuitous insult on our collective psyche.” He said “It is a rape and or a violation of the right of the victims who never complained of missing home, or sought any reunion with their kinsmen back home. It is an incontrovertible fact that most of these men and women visit home at Christmas and new year. “Pray tell me, which of Fashola’s sycophantic minions led him into this ignoble and inexcusable infamy or in the word of Patrick Obayagbon odourferious saga of gagatuangaga; “I am certain he would by now have spent much more to clear the messy fallout of his precipitous action than he would have spent to “rehabilitate” these poor victims of executive intemperance and high handedness.” The former senatorial candidate of Labour Party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) however appealed to people across the country not to see it from the ethnic angle, saying Fashola was not acting for the Yoruba. “Let it be known that Fashola’s influence in Yorubaland does not extend beyond his Lagos State. It is also in the same vein I urge all commentators in this and other media to exercise restrain in their comment and not unduly heat up the polity, “ he added. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fashola-goofed-on-deportation-of-easterners/156034/ |

One thing you should knw nigerian airports has all these yrs been operating under its potential capacity due to several factors like poor facilities, safety issues, high fares, weak economy, lack of good competition btw the airlines and some other factors! But through transformation agenda of the ministry of aviation, all these factors that has been hampering the sector from booming is been aggressively addressed, even new concepts like the aerotropolis idea is coming on board to even drive more traffic to nigerian airports! Know that lagos is doubling its last year passenger traffic this year already from statistics coming in, there are lots of new arilines starting news routes in nigeria this year, and guess which region has a substantial number of passengers traveling tru lagos airport? Easterners.......and when ethiopian airlines will be flying them straight to china, dubai ,US, london, milan etc you think they will still be using lagos airport? Lagos should do 4 million international passenger traffic this year and if 25 percent of that traffic start using enugu airport, that's a cool one million passenger traffic flying in and out from enugu! Not forgetting enugu airport has also been added as a cargo airport for the easterns to be flying the agricultural products to europe and asia faster! So why won't enugu airport trive? |
ABUJA—The Federal Government will hand over privatized successor companies of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, to private investors on September 21, 2013, if the investors pay on schedule. The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, PBE, Mr. Benjamin Dikki, disclosed this in an interview in Abuja. He disclosed that the PHCN privatization was expected to earn the Federal Government about $2 billion. Dikki said: “To purchase this Power Holding Company, over $2 billion will be paid by the bidders, and that is because the investors can see a clear investment horizon. They don’t have to go and lobby anybody, all they require is to meet the technical requirement, go to the regulatory authority, apply for licence and they are limited by their own ingenuity and their access to the capital. “When they pay by September 21, we will hand over the companies to them or anybody who pays earlier and then they begin to operate. “Labour issues have been resolved and the implementation committee on settlement of the PHCN staff terminal benefits commenced payment of N118 billion to the over 20,000 PHCN staff, at the beginning of this month”. The BPE boss said the privatization programme of the Federal Government had significantly opened up the Nigerian economy by creating the right atmosphere for greater private sector participation in several key sectors. He said the telecommunications sector stood out in terms of attracting massive foreign investment, which he put at about $40 billion to date. His words: “The Nigerian economy is becoming more and more liberalised. So, we in the Bureau of Public Entreprise are not surprised. That is what we have been working for. “That is the benefit of the reform, which the Bureau of Public Entreprise has been spearheading and also in consonance with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration”. “What this transformation agenda is doing is to create an enabling environment for the private sector investment in the country and that has given rise to reform activities in various sectors.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/privatization-fg-hands-over-phcn-to-new-investors-sept-21/ |
asha 80: i guess we have to be following up on the progress of that venture....and fg should finish up on unbundling of nepa and payment of laid off staffs.I think by next week payment of laid off staffs should be completed, they are already receiving their bank alerts as we speak! And deadline for complete payment of the un bundled phcn by the buyers is sept, so by oct all PHCN entities should be operating as an efficient private companies. Any update on geometric power plant aba? This is august, that plant should be up and running now with at least 23hrs of electricty supply now! Any aba resident on this thread to give us update? |

Hamakorp a civil construction company that is part of the nestoil group has been mobilised to do d civil works.....the first phase of 450MW is expected to fire its turbines by last quarter of 2014, the other 1000MW will follow suit in subsequent phases! VENTURES AFRICA – Johannesburg and Lagos have emerged the most popular destinations in Africa with over 4.6 million expected visitors in 2013, according to MasterCard’s Third Annual Global Destination Cities Index. The recently released index ranks Johannesburg as the highest on the continent both in total number of visits and international visitors totalling 2,544,013 and generating the sum of $2.7 billion, while Lagos will have 2,164,897 visitors which will generate about $922 million, the report showed. Eleven other African cities were including Cape Town, Durban, Nairobi, Cairo, Casablanca, Accra, Beira, Kampala, Maputo, Tunis and Dakar, were rated on the Index. The top three cities from which visitors to Johannesburg originate are London (299,000 people), Frankfurt (187,000 people), and Dubai (157,000 people). Philip Panaino of the Division President of MasterCard South Africa, says that: “Four of the top five outbound destinations for Johannesburg travellers are within Africa. Maputo and Harare top the list; London comes in third, followed by Lagos and Windhoek.” Lagos, which is referred to as an emerging city, has witnessed considerable growth in the past year following a fall in visits in 2010 and 2011. In 2010 and 2011, Lagos suffered a severe contraction, with visitor numbers declining by about 20 per cent each year, before recovering to around 6.9 per cent growth in 2012. The MasterCard Index of Global Destination Cities is reached using the criteria of the number of total international visitor arrivals and the cross-border spending by visitors in the destination cities. http://www.ventures-africa.com/2013/06/johannesburg-and-lagos-rated-africas-most-popular-destinations-mastercard/ |
Arosa: So Nigeria is now called bongo bongo land? naija don suffer.Lmao! It sounded like kuvikiland in the movie called: bones! On the topic! The 1.5 billion pounds are they sure its aids or loans? If it is aids then its totally stupid of them, it should either be a loan or they channel it to pressing human needs! I don't support them giving aids to develop space crafts when we need that for other basic pressing needs! Is this the aid that the PM cameron threatened to withdraw if nigeria does not support gay rights? If it is, then they should gladly tell him to take his yeye aid! |

Nigerian companies’ efforts to meet their respective power demand in the face of worsening supply have resulted to a whopping generation of about 1,457 megawatts (mw) off-grid electricity, about 36 percent of Nigeria’s 4000mw grid energy, BusinessDay has learnt. The big power consuming firms, especially multinationals and manufacturing concerns, have in recent years disengaged from the national grid due to poor supply and over-bloated charges. They therefore invested in generating their own power off-grid through captive power plants, which cumulatively has been put at 1,457mw. The companies’ efforts, according to sources, have led to cheap power, which has boosted gross margins and profitability. However, the gains by the companies, may adversely affect the fortunes of new investors in the sector who may have the Herculean task of winning the companies back on grid. BusinessDay analysis shows that the captive power plants built by the various companies are helping them to remain competitive, which may make it difficult for the privatised generating companies (GENCOs) and distribution companies (DISCOs) to get them back on the grid in the short term. Some of the companies that have invested in captive power plants include Lafarge WAPCO (90mw), Dangote Cement (258mw) at Obajana and Ibeshe, Western Metal Product Company Limited (WEMPCO) 52mw, Nigerian Breweries plc (16.8mw), Guinness Nigeria’s Ogba brewery (9.3mw), and Nestle Nigeria plc (3mw). Others are United Cement Company (47mw), BUA Sugar Refinery (20mw), BUA Cement (45mw), Notore Fertiliser (50mw), Flour Mills (60mw), Unilever (6mw), and Academy Press (1.2mw), Cadbury (7.3mw), IMIL (14mw), Dangote Sugar (15mw), Golden Sugar (12mw), Island Power (114mw), Oando Akute (12.1mw), NLNG (400mw), and Indorama Eleme Petrochemical/Indorama Fertiliser plant, about (225mw). Dangote Cement estimates that 80 percent gas and 20 percent low-pour fuel oil will be used to run its plants this year. After-tax income for the six months through June grew by 52 percent to N107.7 billion ($670m) from N70.8 billion a year earlier, the company said July 26. The firm’s operating margins, or profit from operations as a percentage to total revenue, widened to 66.5 percent in the period. “There is no requirement that companies must rely on the national grid for their power supply. Everybody has a right to generate power by themselves,” Sam Amadi, chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), said in response to BusinessDay enquiries. “In many countries, companies generate power and they send the unused portion to the national grid,” Amadi noted, saying the DISCOs have a large pool of unmetered and unconnected customers who do not have access to power from which they can generate revenues. An investor in the emerging power sector, who do not want his name mentioned, said it was not a bad idea that companies were generating their own power since the so-called national grid was nothing to bank on, with current capacity less than 5,000mw. “A large part of our over 160 million population does not have access to power. Turkey generates about 70,000mw, South Africa generates over 45,000mw and Mexico generates about 100,000mw. And these countries have less population than Nigeria. “There is huge unmet demand for power in the country. I don’t think we are at the point when we need to worry that investors in the power sector would not get enough revenue because some companies have captive power plants,” he said. Captive power generation means generation of electricity exceeding 1mw for the purpose of consumption by the generator, and not sold to a third party. US-based power firm Cummins Incorporated has invested $240 million (N37.9bn) in joint ventures operations in Nigeria to provide captive power to industries – to design, construct, operate as well as maintain gas-fuelled power plants in the country, according to Tony Satterthwaite, president, Cummins Power Generation. “Gas power delivers significant operational savings in these difficult economic times,” Satterthwaite said, noting that “Cummins is set to capitalise on Nigeria’s growing network of natural gas distribution, which will facilitate the construction of distributed power plants to meet a wide spectrum of industrial and IPP customers in Nigeria.” http://businessdayonline.com/?p=2273 |

The man changes party like he changes his underwear! |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-east has described the statement credited to Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State that Ndigbo would be better served in the APC as an affront to Ndigbo, whose kiths and kin were recently deported to Igbo land from Lagos State, which is the strongholds of the APC. A statement by the party’s National Vice-Chairman (South-east), Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), yesterday said Okorocha should have first of all, reconciled the despicable incident of deporting 76 Nigerians of Igbo extraction from their country to their supposed homeland before making the verbose and unguided utterance which of course gave him and his new party away as an amalgamation of impostors. Okorocha was quoted to have said in the United States of America, while attending the Imo State congress that the political fortunes of Ndigbo were better served in the new party, adding that the wellbeing of Ndigbo remains paramount to him. Questioning why Okorocha had not considered it expedient to ask his mentors at APC hierarchy why they deported some Nigerians in their home country even when the party was at its embryonic stage, Akobundu emphasised that the likes of Okorocha were out there to sell Ndigbo to their masters for a pot of pottage; even when it was glaring that the APC had nothing to offer to Igbo man or woman. “Okorocha’s profligacy and licentiousness in politics are well known. In 1998, prior to the commencement of the fourth republic Okorocha had a romance with the then All Peoples Party (APP). When he saw the tide was not in his favour he joined the PDP in 1999 and made a futile attempt to contest the Imo State governorship poll then. “In 2003, Okorocha founded the Action Alliance (AA), which he abandoned later and rejoined the PDP. For him to contest the the state governorship in 2011, Okorocha nested with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from where he became governor under doubtful circumstance," he said. “Now ever-roving, Okorocha has once more found favour with a new political party that neither has the interest of Ndigbo at heart, as Okorocha tried unsuccessfully though to hoodwink our brothers and sisters in far away US into believing, nor has any good agenda for Igbos at home and in the Diaspora except deporting them from their assumed strongholds. “APC is totally alien to Ndigbo and Igbos will reject it in 2015. Having embraced PDP, a party whose score card as recently published by different federal ministries, departments and agencies shows 80 per cent performance in all sectors in the two years of President Goodluck Jonathan’s first term, Ndigbo cannot but continue to support PDP in order to make Igbo land and Nigeria a model for development. “In the South-east where Okorocha was referring to, the three state governments have been a cynosure of all eyes as the governments have maintained peace, delivered on their promises in providing infrastructure, security, health facilities etc and carried the people along in the governmental activities unlike the loquacious Okorocha who continually causes disaffection amongst the people of Imo state. “When he is not fighting his subordinates and masterminding their impeachment, he is trading words with contractors who had insisted on due process. Such character is not the one to lead Ndigbo to their promised land. Who is sure if Okorocha will not abandon APC at the shortest possible time if his masters in Lagos, where the party claims it is making a good showing, scuttles his ambition? “Ndigbo should ignore Okorocha and his APC and embrace PDP for the realisation of their political, economic and social objectives. PDP is neither a tribal party nor two-man show where decisions are taken at the bedroom of godfathers and imposed on the generality of the people. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/apc-south-east-pdp-ask-ndigbo-to-ignore-okorocha/155703/ |
