cramjones: The events that have taken place in Kogi state gives credence to the rot and capriciousness that characterizes the Nigerian political space! In the words of the great Chinua Achebe, there was indeed a country!
Permit me again, to express my condolence to the Audu family, even though I give him and owe him no eulogies for the begger status he brought Kogi citizens into while he governed. His most notable acheivement for the much I remember is owning a house next to that of Michael Jordan. Haven said that, I find it preproterous that the APC in Kogi state intends installing a younger Audu to be the candidate. This simply shows the following:
1. The reason for a deputy governor or vice president, is mainly to have someone capable of governing affairs of a state or nation in the absence of the principal. The fact that Faleke is not seen fit to take over that mantle, shows that he was only taken by Audu to be his stooge while the looting continues. Why take someone as a deputy governor that you have no confidence in?
2. The APC in Kogi state has no constitutional right to install another replacement. According to law, they are either to conduct another primary or let Faleke be the front runnter. I understand the constitution in this matter is very murky and there is nothing spelt out in the 1999 constitution to guide the actions of the APC. Nevertheless, the people of Kogi must resist the younger Audu and the hegemony that is about to be imposed on them.
3. The Nigerian police should look into the accusation of rape by the Audu's and recover the N11 billion alleged to have been looted by the old Audu. We either have laws or we don't have a country. PMB must lend his voice to this mess.
4. I hope the 17 year old girl (wife) that has been taken advantage of act as a good step mother to the 43 year old Audu and advice him to sheet his swords and step down. Regardless, except the Kogi people are foolish - they must resist such blatant arrogance and hegemonic tendencies by the Audus, and make their state great again!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Xetima: Amaechi case is TOTALLY different. The elections were concluded and result announced and Certificate of return issued to a PDP candidate. Therefore, once Omehia' candidacy was invalidated, the next candidate was elected. On Audu case, the elections were inconclusive. Assuming it was the LP candidate that died would INEC wait for them to hold another primaries or substitute the candidate? By reason of Audu's death, APC rightly crashed out of the race. The electoral laws does not support any other options other than to return the living candidate with the highest vote. It is not person u are voting 4 but party if Audu is not there he has a deputy to step in,Inec err by declaring d election inconclusive how on earth can Wada(pdp) win apc in a rerun with only 25000 valid voters with pvc. |

Okbath: PDP is wrong, they(PDP) better pursue the cancellation of the election and prepare for a second opportunity in the re-run, I also faulted the Attorney general and INEC on the way they handled the outcome due to constitutional lacuna by ordering APC to replace late Audu to complete the election, which means that two governorship candidates secures victory for APC if the(APC) eventually emerged winner as against wada idris of PDP that is one against two. I suggest cancellation and fresh election so if candidates keep dieing they shld continue to cancel & order fresh elections till jeezuz come |

How could Nigeria be a poor country?. We have just about the same population as Japan. But, we're more endowed naturally than Japan.
Therefore, if Japan could be the second or third largest economy, nothing stops Nigeria being the world's largest economy.
All we need is revolutionize our system of education and embrace science. That is if Nigeria get common sense like Japan. |

menesheh: NIGERIA has been adjudged the world's 22nd largest economy with an annual growth rate of 5% during the course of 2015 according to the latest survey of the planet's wealthiest countries the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the figures published yesterday, Nigeria's gross domestic product (GDP) is set to total $1.105trn in 2015, representing a 5% growth from last year. Despite global crude oil prices falling by about three quarters over the last year, Nigeria has defied the negative growth that afflicted several crude-producing countries. Of the world's 30 largest economies countries examined in the survey, oil producers like Brazil and Russia suffered declines in GDP. Africa's two other economies on the list Egypt and South Africa, who were ranked 24th and 30th respectively, enjoyed GDP growth rates of 5.2% and 2.4% respectively. In terms of growth, Nigeria, was also the sixth highest achiever as only China, India, Egypt, Pakistan and the Philippines recorded higher GDP growth. Other key features of the survey was that China overtook the US as the world's largest economy with a GDP of $19.51trn, India moved into third place thanks to its 8.3% growth rate that bumped GDP up to $8.02trn and Egypt overtook South Africa as Africa's second largest economy. Over the last 15 years, Nigeria has enjoyed annual GDP growth rates of about 7% but with crude oil prices falling to about $40 a barrel from over $100 a barrel, it is no surprise that growth has slowed. Despite this, the economy continues to diversify and the country remains on course to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world's top 20 economies by 2020. International Monetary Fund statistics at October 2015 1. China: US$19.510 trillion (up 7.9% from 2014) 2. United States: $17.968 trillion (up 3.6%) 3. India: $8.027 trillion (up 8.3%) 4. Politics › Re: Kogi Poll: Resign Now, PDP Tells AGF, INEC Chair by billyG(m): 11:40am On Nov 25, 2015 |
deen4real7902: The Peoples Democratic Party has demanded the resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over the decision to allow the All Progressives Congress to replace its governorship candidate for Kogi State.
The AGF and INEC had in the afternoon given the APC the go ahead to pick a replacement for the late Abubakar Audu, who died on Sunday – a day after contesting in the governorship election.
INEC had also decided to hold supplementary election in the 91 units where election was cancelled on Saturday on December 5.
However, the PDP condemned and rejected the decision to allow the APC replace its candidate, arguing that the decision was unconstitutional and that INEC was biased.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, told journalist in Abuja that the party had asked Malami to vacate his office “for harrying and misleading the Independent National Electoral Commission into arriving at an unconstitutional decision to allow the APC to substitute its candidate in the inconclusive Kogi state governorship election.”
Metuh said the party was shocked that INEC could allow itself to succumb to the antics of the APC “by following the unlawful directive of an obviously partisan AGF to substitute a candidate in the middle of the ballot process.”
The PDP described the decision of INEC and the AGF as bizarre, saying, “We are all aware that the two legal documents guiding INEC in the conduct of elections; the Constitution and the Electoral Act, have provisions for electoral exigencies as well as empower the electoral body to fully take responsibility for any of its actions or inaction without undue interference from any quarters whatsoever.
“We are therefore at a loss as to which sections of these two relevant laws, INEC and the AGF relied on in arriving at their bizarre decision to substitute a dead candidate in an ongoing election even after the timelines for such has elapsed under all the rules.”
According to the PDP, the implication of the decision will be that the APC will be fielding two different governorship candidates in the election, meaning that INEC will be transferring votes cast for late Prince Abubakar Audu to another candidate.
This, it said, were “scenarios that have no place in the constitution of the land.”
It added, “Whereas the PDP, in honour of the sanctity of human life and respect for the dead, had since Sunday refrained from making comments on the conduct of the election, we can no longer maintain such in the face of the barefaced attack on our democracy.
“This INEC under the leadership of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has shown itself as partisan, morally bankrupt and obviously incapable of conducting a credible election within our laws.
“In view of the foregoing therefore, the PDP demands an immediate resignation of the INEC chairman, as the nation’s democracy cannot afford to be left in the hands of an electoral umpire that cannot exert its independence.”

olokfor: The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has reacted to the death of Prince Abubakar Audu.
A statement issued by Olisa Metuh, National publicity secretary of the party said it was 'shocked' by the news.
''The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is shocked by the news of the sudden death of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s Kogi state governorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu. At this critical moment, the PDP refrains from comments on the conduct of the election. That is not important now. What is important at this point is the sanctity of human life''
''Our deepest thoughts and prayers go to the family of Prince Abubakar Audu and indeed, the APC fold. On this note, the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, charges all PDP members in Kogi and across the nation to keep Prince Audu, his family and loved ones in their prayers, as we mourn with them and the people of Kogi state over this monumental loss'', the PDP statement read.
