pleep: You are missing the point "For Colored Girls" is not tyler perry's original work.

It is a feminist play from the 70's and is considerd to be one of the "landmark" productions of black feminism. It was produced in the midst of the civil rights struggle... while black men & women where marching together against a common enemy, black feminism was pitting the two genders against each other.

The play is called for "colored girls" but there is nothing in there that references racial oppression or political disenfranchisement. It is completely black woman vs black men. Every single bad thing that occurs is caused by a black man... fathers raping daughters...down low men giving black women aids.... black men throwing their own children out of windows etc. In the end most of them either end up, dead, in jail or dying of an inccurable STD.

Black feminists staturated the popular culture with negative images of the black male to the point where regular black women had an (understandable) hatred of the other gender. This is what primed the black community for the welfare laws that pushed fathers out of the home, break down of family stucture, single mother-hood etc.

Interesting history,,, I knew it was adapted from a play but im surprised that Tyler Perry did not do his homework properly
