Most people on finding out that they've become rich beyond their wildest dreams would immediately splash out on a selfish purchase - a yacht, a mansion, maybe even a private island. But when Reggie Theus discovered he had become a trillionaire thanks to a bank error, he decided to make life easy for his fellow Americans, and offered to pay of the national debt. Sadly for the country, the bank realised its mistake, and soon took away the East Texan's $4,000,000,000,000 - dashing the States' hope of an easy fix for their financial crisis. Mr Theus, a restaurant manager, didn't throw caution to the wind and quit his job, thankfully - he still turned up and was busy waiting on tables and co-ordinating his staff. He told KLTV: 'I was definitely surprised when I looked in my account and saw that much money in there. 'I looked it up and there's never been a trillionaire before.' The bank, which asked their customer not to identify them, had made the error during an online banking update. Mr Theus' offer could not have come at a better time for the warring government, which has shutdown while Republicans and Democrats argue over raising the debt-ceiling. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/04/article-2443656-188443BF00000578-388_634x369.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/04/article-2443656-188443D700000578-99_634x436.jpghttps://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/04/article-2443656-188443D300000578-428_306x384.jpg CULLED FROM dailymail.co.uk http://bishopjoe..com/2013/10/bank-error-makes-restaurant-manager.html |

A Chinese woman has revealed she was dragged from her home in the middle of the night and forced to have an abortion, three months before her child was due to be born. Liu Xinwen, 33, and her husband Zhou Guoqiang were left devastated after the mother-of-one was pulled from her bed and taken to hospital to be injected with an abortion-inducing drug. The forced abortion is due to China's strict one-baby policy, introduced in 1979 to keep the country's population under control - the couple already have a son. The couple claim that they were awoken at 4am last week after their door was kicked down and two dozen officials from the Shandong Province Family Planning Commission forced their way into their home. Mr Zhou told Sky News how he was held down on the sofa while his terrified wife was taken away to the hospital. He then spent a desperate five hours trying to find out where Liu Xinwen had been taken as officials refused to tell him. When he eventually found his wife at the People's Hospital of Fangzi District in Weifang City, he arrived just minutes after the injection had been administered. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/04/article-2443753-1886E05C00000578-790_634x476.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/04/article-2443753-18850B2500000578-259_634x359.jpg CULLED FROM dailymail.co.uk http://bishopjoe..com/2013/10/chinese-official-forcefully-drag-and.html |

The Dangote Foundation yesterday began the construction of what has been described as one of “Africa’s most ambitious health facilities” in Kano State. The health facilities will cost Dangote Foundation N2 billion. President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said he was planning to build the world’s best hospital in Kano State. He said the plan would end the medical tourism, which has cost Nigeria billions of naira. The hospital, which has been named Mariya Sanusi Dantata Ultramodern Theatre Complex, has modern facilities, including a diagnostic laboratory. The complex would be built within the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony in Kano yesterday, the Chairman of the Dangote Foundation Alhaji Aliko Dangote said the gesture was meant to support government’s efforts at achieving a sound health programme for the people. Dangote said only healthy people can contribute meaningfully to the growth of the economy. He said: “It is not just about creating a modern, new, sorely needed medical facility in this great city of ours. It is about our broader commitment to systematically improve the health and well-being of the people. This is one of our areas of focus. “We believe that every Nigerian has a right to quality health care. We also believe that it is our collective duty to rally our resources to improve health infrastructure, support the development of health care professionals and improve preventive health measures in Nigeria. “Today, we are pleased to be able to stand with the Governor as he lays the foundation stone for the 5-storey ultramodern theatre complex.” Kano State Governor Musa Kwankwaso said the new facilities would eliminate the need to travel out of the country for treatment. He hailed the Dangote Foundation for its interventions in Kano, making reference to a recent N600 million women empowerment scheme by the Dangote Group. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said medical tourism cost Nigeria about N80 billion annually. He urged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s philanthropic spirit. http://bishopjoe..com/2013/10/dangote-builds-n2-billion-world-class.html |
https://pulse.rmnl.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Before-and-After.jpg It is a thing of shame how hitherto top stars fall into shame when they could not manage their fame. From the likes of Michael Jackson, to Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, to our own music icon, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, a one-time top Nigerian reggae musician who was once touted to be the natural successor to Bob Marley. The iconic singer and guitarist who took the Nigerian music scene by storm and churned out several hit bangers that made people tag him a musical prophet, was so big that Tuff Gong records, the same label that had Marley in its stable, signed him on knowing that he had what it took to be the best. His song ‘Send Down The Rain’ was as prophetic as it could be and he was held in high esteem. But Majek blew it, got into drugs and many other vices. Fashek was born in Benin City, an Edo mother and a Yoruba father first gained national fame on a television show in the early 1980s as a member of Benin-based reggae group Jastix. His band-mates included Ras Kimono and Amos McRoy Gregg. They toured for many years with fellow reggae group The Mandators. In 1988, shortly after Jastix disbanded, he began a solo career and quickly became the best-known reggae artist in Nigeria. His song ‘Send Down The Rain’ was a hit, and he won six US-based PMAN Music Awards. After leaving Tabansi Records, he was signed to CBS Nigeria in the early 1990s before moving to Island Records’ Mango imprint, a label more accustomed to marketing reggae internationally. His first album for the company included a cover version of Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’. In 1990, he was signed to Interscope Records and released the critically acclaimed album Spirit Of Love, produced by ‘Little Steven’ Van Zandt. Flame Tree released ‘The Best of Majek Fashek’ in 1994. He recorded several albums for various labels since, including Rainmaker for Tuff Gong (1997) and Little Patience for Coral (2004). But today, Majek is shadow of himself as he has been eaten by drugs and other devices. We are not condemning here but we all want to see Majek Fashek get rehabilitated. Pulse.ng takes a look at the many faces of Majek from when he was a handsome young reggae act to now that he has become somewhat of a scarecrow. Who will help this wasted talent? https://pulse.rmnl.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Majek-Fashek-before-and-now.jpg https://pulse.rmnl.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Majek-Before1.jpg THEN https://pulse.rmnl.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/majek-6.png NOW http://bishopjoe..com/2013/09/fame-to-shamemajek-fashek.html |

First it was the paw of a cat, then it was a man's toe. Now, the latest body part being used to unlock Apple's iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner is a nipple. A number of videos have appeared online that appear to show male and female nipples being pressed onto the phone's TouchID sensor. The capacitive sensor can be used with any skin part, as long as a heartbeat and body temperature can be detected, to unlock the device. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/24/article-2430654-183A42D400000578-496_634x340.jpg One owner of the new iPhone 5S said: 'I'm glad Apple's scanner recognises nipples - it just goes to show how ridiculous the premise is in the first place. 'Now if anyone tries to mug me, they'll have to cut one of my nipples off if they want to use my phone, and I'm not telling them which one.' The latest Apple handset comes with technology which means they can be accessed by placing the owner's finger on the control button. It lets owners register up to five different prints to unlock the phone and pay for apps. Last week, technology site, TechCrunch, wanted to test the new Touch ID feature using a cat's paw. After a few false starts, the paw was recognised as one of the owner's five chosen keys and was able to access the phone's content. The user was also able to use the heel of his palm and his wrist in the experiment which is described as 'a broadening of the definition of what counts as a 'fingerprint'. Though different parts of the body were able to be registered and then recognised as keys, when trying to fool the phone's software by using the opposite hand than registered access was denied. The experiment pointed out however that no other animals could be used to unlock the phone as cats have unique fingerprint like paws. Another technology site, Pocket-Lint, found TouchID is not just a fingerprint sensor, but is also a toe sensor. Their tests found that a print from a toe was able to unlock the phone perfectly every time https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/19/article-2425504-1BC1134D000005DC-353_306x423.jpghttps://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/19/article-2425504-1BEABB4A000005DC-29_306x423.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/20/article-2425504-181E1BF300000578-919_634x420.jpg CULLED FROM dailymail.co.uk http://bishopjoe..com/2013/09/apple-5s-owners-are-now-using-their.html |
No fewer than 90 stranded Nigerians, including 14 minors, were on Tuesday repatriated from Tunisia by the International Organisation for Migration. The deportees included a year-old and a five -month-old. The IOM repatriated them with the support of the Tunisian Government. The National Emergency Management Agency was one of the agencies that received the deportees at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The South-West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Iyiola Akande, told newsmen at MMIA that the agency planned to rehabilitate and re-integrate the deportees into the Nigerian society. “We will take the minors to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons for re-orientation and rehabilitation,’’ he said. He said that NEMA would provide the others with food, water and N5, 000, each, for transport to go to any part of the country they would wish to reside. “This is an emergency. Ordinarily, NEMA will not be involved.’’ The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the deportees were received at the Cargo Section of the MMIA. They were brought in at 2.30a.m. by a cargo aircraft with registration number 320-214117Y. The IOM is an intergovernmental organisation, established in 1951 as the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration to help to re-settle people displaced by World War II. It is now committed to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants http://bishopjoe..com/2013/09/tunisia-repatriates-90-nigerians_1472.html |

Ribadu said he pretended to take the bribe because he wanted the cash as evidence to use against Ibori in a prosecution, but rather than keep the money for himself he had it taken straight to the Central Bank of Nigeria to be kept safe in a vault. Ribadu told the court that about $1 billion flowed from federal government accounts into Delta State coffers during Ibori’s eight years in power, and he estimated Ibori had stolen or wasted more than half of that amount. The charges to which Ibori pleaded guilty amount to the theft of about $80 million, but British prosecutors say that was only part of his total booty, which was kept hidden via a complex web of shell companies, offshore accounts and front men. Ribadu, who was chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from April 2003 to December 2007, was giving evidence at a confiscation hearing in which prosecutors are seeking court orders to have Ibori’s assets seized. Under Nigeria’s constitution, state governors enjoy immunity from prosecution but are limited to two terms in office. With the end of his second term looming in April 2007, Ibori was worried the EFCC were planning to prosecute him, Ribadu said. “He was very desperate to terminate the investigation,” he told the court. In late April 2007, a meeting was arranged between the two men at a “neutral place”, the house of Andy Uba, a close associate of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Ibori arrived at the house with several members of his staff and a very large black sack containing $15 million in cash. Ribadu said he watched as two of Ibori’s men lifted the heavy sack and handed it over to his own EFCC staff. “It was a bag that an individual could not carry alone,” he said. The EFCC men drove the bag to the central bank where the money was counted and boxed into smaller containers. The court was shown photographs of the boxes of cash. “I have given you money Nuhu, just give me my clearance,” Ribadu quoted Ibori as telling him after those events. Instead, the EFCC continued to investigate Ibori’s affairs and had him arrested on corruption charges on December 12, 2007. It will be recalled that the Delta state government had approached the court asking that the money belonged to the state government and should therefore be returned to the state. The EFCC are however opposed to the return of the money to the state. The EFCC says that “that the said sum of $15 Million cannot be traced to any account owned or being operated by the Delta State Government or any of its agencies and officials. The student, named only as Lei in local news reports, had been discovered playing with his phone by his teacher Sun Wakang during a chemistry lesson at a school in in Fuzhou, eastern China's Jiangxi province. The following day Lei went to Mr Sun’s classroom where the teacher was sat marking papers, and slit his throat from behind. The 32-year-old father-of-one died at the scene as the student fled. Today young Lei called the local emergency number and confessed to the crime before turning himself in to police in Shanghai. Mr Sun had worked as a chemistry teacher at Linchuan No. 2 Middle School for five years before his brutal murder, school official Xiong Haishui told China.org.cn. He had taken the student’s mobile phone after the young boy had used it during a lesson, but it had been returned at the end of the day. Despite this, Lei attacked Mr Sun as he was preparing lessons in his classroom, just four days after China’s Teacher’s Day – a national day where students honour their teachers. Officials say a fellow teacher heard Mr Sun’s scream and called emergency serviced, but the 32-year-old was dead before an ambulance arrived. In China, 'middle school' comprise years 7-9 and 10-12 and is the final stage before higher education. Linchuan No. 2 Middle School is one of the best schools in Jiangxi Province and has one of the highest University acceptance ratios in the region. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/17/article-2423913-1BDF5553000005DC-718_634x466.jpg http://bishopjoe..com/2013/09/chinese-pupil-kills-teacher-for.html |

BREAKING NEWS: 40 Soldiers Killed, 65 Missing in a 'Surprise' Attack by Boko Haram Fighters: No fewer than 40 Nigerian soldiers were killed and the whereabouts of 65 others were unknown in a deadly assault by suspected Boko Haram members in the sect’s stronghold in Borno state. Various defence sources conveyed the information to PREMIUM TIMES, adding that the army authorities are outraged by the insurgents’ strike, and have ordered an investigation into the suspected operation blunder that gave the militants such an upper hand. The commanding officer of the unit that carried out the operation has now been removed from his post, officials say. The casualty, one of the heaviest for the military in its campaign against the militant group in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, occurred along the Baga – Maiduguri road on Friday, September 13, 2013. Presumably it happened due to a ‘classic’ case operational and communication failure. A detachment of soldiers under the 134 Battalion of the 12 Brigade under the Multi National Joint Task Force, MNJTF, stationed in Kangarwa village in Kukawa local government, had conducted a reconnaissance to gather intelligence around the area, during which they established the presence of previously unnoticed Boko Haram camps. The soldiers returned to their base and filed a report recommending aerial bombardment of the area, preparatory for a ground operation by troops. But that plan was cancelled at the final minutes by an unnamed top official without formal communication to the more than 100 troops that had already advanced on the area. So the soldiers rushed to the terrorists’ stronghold without knowing that the aerial bombardment had been cancelled. The soldiers were trapped in the ambush under heavy fire from the militants who had surrounded the area, leaving at least 40 soldiers killed. Some 65 others have remained missing. The insurgents were able to recover a huge cache of weapons from the deceased and run-away soldiers. As with past failures that ended in bloodshed and heavy casualty against the military, authorities have struggled to place a lid on the incident. When contacted, the spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, a Brigadier General, said he was attending a meeting and would prefer a text message. He did not respond to the text message. But a top security source confirmed the incident and said the army headquarters have ordered an investigation. The recent attack came less than two months after a similar miscalculation on August 4 which also resulted in a heavy casualty following a similar surprise attack by Boko Haram on a camp at Malam Fatori. http://bishopjoe..com/2013/09/40-soldiers-killed65-missing-in.html |
Some touchscreens on tablet computers and smartphones carry many more germs than a toilet seat, say researchers. The bacteria are being left behind as users swipe and poke the screens of devices such as Apple iPads and Samsung Galaxy tablets without washing their hands. One tablet tested by consumer group Which? had a count of 600 units per swab of the staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which can create toxins that cause vomiting and diarrhoea. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/17/article-0-1B11357A000005DC-384_634x635.jpg A typical toilet seat has a staphylococcus aureus count of less than 20. Which? also found enterobacteria, which can include strains of infections such as E. coli and salmonella. High-risk levels, more than 1,000 units of enterobacteria per swab, were found on eight of the 30 tablets tested and seven of the 30 smartphones. The worst tablet had a count of 15,000 units per swab, with four phones and five keyboards also registering this level. Toilet seats typically had less than ten units per swab of enterobacteria. Firms like Apple actively discourage users from using detergents on their touchscreens because they can damage them. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/09/17/article-0-171DAFFE000005DC-748_634x452.jpg The presence of the germs is simply a reflection of the fact that touchscreen users failed to wash their hands properly, while few people bother to clean the devices and keyboards. An expert microbiologist consulted by Which? nod that if the high levels of bacteria were found on the hands of anyone working in the food industry, they would require immediate re-training in basic hygiene. Which? editor Richard Headland, said: 'It’s shocking that a smartphone or tablet can harbour more germs than a toilet seat. Gadgets should be cleaned regularly and thoroughly to avoid germs that could lead to illness.' He said the best method is to use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth, rather than detergents. Apple warns people not to use alcohol-based cleaners on iPads CULLED: www.dailymail.co.uk |
