PoliticsRe: 5 Reasons Africans Are Still Poor - Aroms Aigbehi by Bishopking: 3:55am On Jul 07, 2018
AreaFada2:
You see, modernity was thrust upon us. We did not prepare for it, so we're finding it hard to adjust.

At heart and in our mentality we're not culturally different from people who lived in 1905 in Africa. Forget churches, cars, cell phones, flashy cars and apparently modern way we seem to live.

In the past a man with many wives and kids and therefore able to have a large farm was a provider for many. In-laws, cousins, uncles, aunts and others would come to his barn to carry loads of yam. To dig up cocoa yam and cassava, pluck pepper, harvest rice and beans and such and carry home.

We were told a story as kids: an elderly woman went to collect free yam tubers from his junior brother's VERY large yam barn in his farm. The brother asked her to pick & choose which rows of yam she wanted and she picked the best & biggest tubers. But on the floor of the barn were tiny broken pieces of yam. The lady wanted to have those broken pieces but too shy too ask. The brother couldn't have known that someone who collected the best yams would still covet tony broken pieces on the floor. She left the farm inwardly furious for not being offered those tiny pieces of yam. For that reason she used her witchcraft to kill her generous junior brother. She later confessed what she did. Morale is you can do your best for them but the little seemingly irrelevant stuff you didn't do is enough to turn them against you.

Farm produce were not really sold but stored to survive through the year.

So once one family member rises up financially a little bit, he comes the Red Cross, UNHCR & UNICEF of the entire extended family.

Many will now rely on hand-outs from him. Many will call him stingy & some will even try diabolical/juju things against him for alleged neglect of their financial needs.

Many relatives who cou;d have gone out to hustle, create wealth and be independent now all sit idle. This creates massive poverty all round.

Sad thing is should the worst happen to the "one-man" charity organisation, his nuclear family suffers the most. Most would would assume he left truckloads of money behind. To the point that his widow many never have peace because of his family.

Very sad situation.
Spot on! !

I get your gist bro, if it's true, 2m is really on a high, whatever amount it is, I won't advice anyone on a suicidal mission as this.
but then I don't think anyone will just wake up in the morning and start planning land trip to Europe, na condition make crayfish bend my brother.
Not all of them pay this so called 2m, some really have cogent reasons to leave, not everyone is blessed to succeed in business. we're nigerians man, we know what's up, no favorable environment sef for the business to strive.

We shouldn't blame this people man, like I said some of them really have valid reasons to leave, they've been pushed to the wall and can only find solace in embarking on this life threatening journey.
If 9ja is really working as you tryna portray here, nobody will leave my brother, nobody will leave.
9jas' system is fvcked mansmiley
I thought deeply on the kind of condition that will make someone with 2million naira to want to become illegal in another man's country. Now here are what I came up with:

1. He stole the 2 million naira (about 6000 dollars) in the first place. So, he lacks the original ability to make money legally.
2. He inherited the money and he lacks ability to think on what to invest it in.
3. He is easily deceived by what he sees on social media
4. He is under hypnosis
5. He is a fugitive running from the law
6. He is a social outcast. e.g someone with unacceptable sexual orientation
7. He is a victim of violence, war etc

Except for no. 7 I do not see why anyone should take a risk that some of these guys have been taking.
Instead, I suggest the following:

1. The energy invested in running away through the desert can be channeled into productive ventures or to fight the possible oppression that they are running from.
2. They can learn a trade/ vocation
3. They can create their own form of 'make believe'on social media to show that they too are doing well. Afterall social media is almost 90% 'fake it till make it'
4. Develop state of calmness. A calm mind can see opportunities. Jumping at all suggestions without thinking is dangerous.
5. Participate in politics. Make your voice heard. Do not allow criminal elements in the society to be running the country.
6. Read about what dangers are on the way. Conduct adequate risk analysis if it is a must to travel. There is no point to run from fry pan into the fire.
7. Know that the grass that looks greener on the other side is watered by someone. Plant your own grass and tend to it.

God bless you.

Clearly, the EU (European Union) is sponsoring this. SMH. undecided
It is commendable. But One would hope that Nigerian factor does not kick in. I hope that officials will not be bringing their family members from the village to claim the little pocket money that is meant for genuine Libyan slaves. huh

It was a murder.
The right window was opened after the shot. Otherwise, there would have been smithereens of glass all over the floor. Also, the blood splash on the wall would have been different. In addition, the force of the shot would have made him to slump towards right position. The position of the pistol on the floor would have been different.

chukzyfcbb:
yea I understand your fears, u feel one day Nigeria will go broke and be unable to repay them debts right?

Well presently a speech from a world bank spokesperson also share same view. it is said that they(world bank) don't think that Nigeria has even revenue to meet its INTEREST payments seeing how much debt we had been accumulating and Yet to still accumulate. So its okay to worry coz in the long run it spells dom but then how does Nigeria generate funds to pay back?
- Print more money
- Increase the revenue generated

Kemi adesoun has decided to follow the option of increasing revenue, how?
By Increasing the Tax-net to capture in more people. Statistics say only 22% of companies pay tax in Nigeria , so we can start from there.
Also seeing how mean this govt can be at times. If they fail to capture more coys into their tax books, they may as well increase the tax on those complying to increase revenues. Talks have been going on , on how to increase our VAT.

U know naija, they can just bring up one funny policy, like they increase car import duty or increase the taxes on purchasing luxury products like champagne or jets....all these are in a bid to increase the generated revenue to meet the debt obligations.

just so you know, According to a sentence made by The former Cbn gov (lamido sanusi) He says ; Nigeria spends 66% of her revenue on debts alone.

So u have every reason to be concerned bruh! in the long run, we either increase the revenue or borrow less .make we no compound our woes, or bad as e bad we print more money if water wan pass garri (Inflation tendencies tho if this happen) lool
Nice one.
I think the borrowing at interest is a way of 'printing' more money without having to incure cost of physical printing. After all, this is already a cashless economy.
Nigerians need to be wary of the external influence of imf and World Bank.

Was that enough reason to turn the plane to crusade ground? Well, different people have different coping mechanism. And from the video, it was clear that the shrieking noice was from the women folk mostly.

Chief
Very good and educative summary of the discourse, my question to you is,would you advice we continue injecting funds into Ajaokuta for now ,if so kindly give cogent reasons so we can put this discourse to rest.
1bottle of Moët for you!!!
Thank you very much!!! Please pardon my delayed response. I had a very busy week.

Now to the points raised above. To be honest, I do not know the intention of the government about this money being planned to be spent. But as an open-minded person, I will give them the benefit of doubt. The fundamental issue was that Nigerians like to play to the gallery and put the cart before the horse!! We got a lot of things wrong in the quest for technological advancement. Nigeria is a nation of "rent-collectors", to use the words of our own Prof Pat Utomi.

How on earth do we plan to have a steel industry that will be run by foreigners and only transferred to us like a bakery? How we raise highly skilled workforce, Research &Development Centers, system capability and so on should be our priority. In fact, we should have steel development as part of our own military industrial complex among other things. Nothing should be run in isolation. Unfortunately, we have politicians that want to run technical outfits like the MMM guiders run their shows. They just want to collect rent. Or out-rightly steel the money.

So, the concerns raised by the members of this forum are very valid, sadly.
PoliticsRe: FG Allocates 4.3bn For Revival Of Ajaokuta Steel Company by Bishopking: 3:38pm On Jan 10, 2017
Nice topic this is!

I appreciate the back and forth argument from proponents and opponents of the FG initiative to position Nigeria on path of industrialization.

I personally support Nigeria's self reliant in steel production for the following reasons:

1. Steel is gotten from iron ore that is found in commercial quantity in Nigeria. It means that God has already given to us freely what nations like Japan will spend fortune to buy before their industries can produce steel.
2. There are thousands of steel grades that can be made depending on processing and additives. Some applications require very cutting edge steels that countries like US ensures that some other countries do not get through trade. For example, there are certain classes of super duplex stainless steels that US do not want other countries to have because of fear of using it for weapon development.
3. It has multiplier effect. Basically steel serve as starting point for many other components and industries. Spin-off industries can happen because of the locally available steel at cheaper rates.
4. Availability of steel components: steel are not normally produced and stored on the shelf. What that means is that some of the steel items are long lead items that require a long while to deliver because the steel mills in the world always have orders placed by customers and the more complex the steel grade, the longer it take to get it delivered.
5. Skills: to be sincere, steel metallurgy is not as easy as some opponents have made us to believe. It is a cutting edge scientific endeavor if you consider the entire spectrum of the discipline. To open your eyes to this, consider the issue that the soviet rocket designers and engineers were having back in the days. Their rockets were just exploding like balloon. It took the development of a category of high temperature stainless steel (composition of which is top secret by the way) to solve this problem. Certain skills have to be available in country for strategic purposes. I hope you are following.
6. Economic: Reason this with me please. If your salary can only support one tenth of your needs, would you rather not do some of the things you would have paid for by your self. Would you ask for someone to teach your kids when you can do it yourself? would you rather not cook your food instead of getting a cook? would you rather not learn how to cook Chinese rice instead of visiting chinese restaurant to spend money that you do not have? would you rather not have a farm where you can cultivate rice yourself?
7. Employment: I will not say much about this. If you are a Nigerian, you already know.
8. Other countries: I recommend you go through the American industrialization. The foremost things that helped americans was their early development of metallurgy. It also saved their ass during the war. It helps them till today. Do you wonder how they have the largest economy? Do you think it is facebook? please! cheesy cheesy cheesy. Read about industrial revolution (of Britain). Engineers from recent nations to develop, like S. Korea, India, Brazil, etc will laugh at the comments of the opponents here.
9. Transportation: even roads require steel input. Your heavy earth moving equipment are made of steel. your bridges are reinforced. What of rail system. Do you know how much tonnes of steel will be required?
10. Export: African Market is large. In the next twenty five years, Africa will be consuming steel seriously. We have our opportunity today to develop ourself to the Japan of Africa such that we will be buying even iron ores from other African countries and processing it for subsequent export. This seems to be sure for us as at today. This is an opportunity.

He should have read about China to know what Chinese government do to carry out any project.
As much as I sympathise with the traders, we should not absolve them of blames. What do I mean? What I mean is that they took a risk to put their wares in a place that is not a market. That they have been trading there over the years does not mean that they now own a market. It is not so.
Lagos state is not the first government to carry out demolition. A memory search brought out the demolition of certain market and motor park in onitsha in recent times. Traders ranted and ranted. But nobody can fight and defeat a government.
On race matters, one will be shocked about what had happened in human history. Mankind can be evil, good, tolerant, accommodating, vengeful, vermin-like, clannish etc. What sort of race will line up people and slit open their throat in the name of religion? What sort of race drop a bomb that killed over 100000 people at a go and ensured that those who survived are certainly destroyed by radioactive fallout? My guy, take race out of this!
Going forward, let us aspire to be good individually and collectively. Let's pursue common good. For instance, let's channel efforts to power generation instead of deliberately sabotaging the efforts in order to make demonic profit via generator importation.

sounds funny but they recruit more of low IQ people from their target victim countries. They also consider family influence, financial muscle and other factors while recruiting.
I suspect that CIA and others want the coastal area of Nigeria and all inland oil-rich areas. They also do not want tribal-related crises as obtained in present Nigeria. To this end, I suspect that they are using someone or some people to annexe all the oil rich nigeria coastal area and then merge them under a small ethnic group or ethnic groups dominated by just one. Before then, they will sponsor overwhelming crises and chaos as well as lack of development. They will achieve this through their agents in power. Watch out!!
PoliticsRe: 444 by Bishopking: 2:24pm On Oct 22, 2011
With developments like this being carried out by white racists, I have deep concerns for non-white people (particularly black people) of this world. Had it been that it was a non-white nation that was developing stuff like this, the nation will be smothering by now.

Wake up call to African nations. Engage your intellectual base. Develop your own technology and millitary capabilities. Develop your economy. Stop being second class citizen of the world. Stop recognizing dollar as the currency of the world. It is not backed by anything. It is just paper at best. They print it based on demands. And they use just paper to buy up African resources. SAD!!!!
