I support the execution . Police are dropping dead like flies at their hands.
Say what you want about police , but when there’s an issue you need them for , they’ll be there . At least most times
ESN should leave police and army alone and go after the herdsmen in the bushes at Ebonyi and Enugu state.

But I don’t support this manhood stuff. What’s that about huh

Honestly, after reading so many Igbo opinions on this thread and their persistent focus on the Yorubas and BitterTruth0001's claim that Yorubas are the ones that "arrogate unto itself the mantle of superiority and sophistication", (the former is definitely not true), I am convinced that the real reason many Igbos attack Yorubas is because they see them as their main competition for the premier/prestige tribe in Nigeria.

To be the premier/prestige tribe, a tribe would have to be:

- Large
- Economically Strong
- Highly Educated
- Productive
- Rich and Successful
- Cultured and Well-mannered

I don't think most Igbos see Hausas, and any other tribe apart from Yorubas, being able to compete with them on all these, hence the attacks and focus on Yorubas in most of the arguments of some Igbos despite the fact that Yorubas have been generally welcoming, tolerant and nice to them.

Hausas are far larger than them (and Yorubas) but would fail in all the other traits.

Yorubas are better than them in at least 4, if not all 6, of those traits.

All other tribes fail at "Large" trait as 65% of Nigerians are one of the 3 major tribes.

Honestly, I think i finally get the reason for persistent focus on Yorubas. It is the feeling of those that are the threat to the superiority many Igbos feel they need to have, and that has been documented for over 70 years. They really don't like being second.

Smh. Insolent and uncouth as usual.

During the last election campaign, I watched it live on Channels TV where the current Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, was campaigning in Yoruba and interpreting for Obaseki! I kept wondering which part of Edo is this that Phillip Shaibu was campaigning in fluent Yoruba but I never bothered because I don't honestly care. Shaibu speaks fluent Yoruba!

Edo is not in South West and if Edo the politicians campaign in Yoruba language, the Yoruba here in Yorubaland really don't even know or care to know.
The only insolence here is you trying to insult our intelligence .
There are yoruba residents in Edo and Shaibu interpreted in Yoruba to carry everyone along and get as much votes as possible but Yoruba is not an indigenous language in Edo.

You’re comparing apples and oranges . And then backing it up with a justification that you cannot accept in your own backyard . You even admitted that the man is more yoruba than Esan, so why is he not contesting in Ibadan ?
Oh wait his last name is Esan so he is not Yorubanized enough .

Not funny.

The book "Stumbling on happiness" on my mind right now wink

The reality is that Edo is not monolingual so there may be no furore if a candidate turns out to be like LP's Chinedu in Lagos who can't speak Yoruba and had to get an interpreter during campaign too.

Asue and his siblings were born and raised in Ibadan where their parents lived, stayed and worked. Their mum is Yoruba while their Das is Esan. If they were females married to Yoruba men, they could even aspire to be the Governor of Oyo state. It's their names that kept restricted them as Edo , they could pass for a Yoruba family.

Their late mum, a Yoruba woman, was particularly phenomenal and popular as well as a role model to many people in Ibadan so much that her name was a household name in Ibadan those days. Their late Dad was a Senior Staffer at the University of Ibadan.Check my signature for free stuffs!
You think you’re clever .
Why is he not contesting in the accommodating region of Ibadan ?
Edo is not monolingual ?? Can he speak any of the local languages? Is yoruba part of the indigenous yoruba language ?

There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with a tribe being proud of itself.

What is wrong is for a tribe to be known to express its pride by trying to claim superiority over other tribes and known to vocally attacking other tribes publicly.

What is worse is to see that this disposition and reputation has been like this for over 70 years, and it is only one tribe that possesses it, out of the over 150 tribes in Nigeria; to the point a pejorative exonym for the tribe now, across Nigeria, is "Children of hate".

You don't think that is a problem worth discussions?
You’re not being completely honest. It appears there’s a deep seated prejudice involved here on your part and I’m trying to get to the root of it, hence starting with the question : what’s your ethnicity ?

There is only one tribe in Nigeria that arrogates unto itself the mantle of superiority and sophistication over others, proclaims itself as the master black ‘ race’ (up to the point that their paramount traditional ruler , the Ooni came out to say Igbos emanated from Ile-Ife; he may have meant well but if he needed to say that in order to persuade his kinsmen to be more accommodating of Igbos, then one can only imagine the level of delusion that pervades their collective heritage ), all these but they yet continue to hide under the easily identifiable pretentious garb of faux humility. This is the Yoruba tribe. I grew up in Yorubaland, so you cannot tell me about them. You even admitted that if they want to talk bad about others , they do it behind their back .

The fact that you’ll prefer those who operate like that to those who tell it to your face (bluntly or politely but to your face nonetheless) tells me that you’ll operate like that too and I know a lot of people would be wary of associating with those of such disposition.

An Igbo man boasting about his achievements can be likened to the proverbial lizard that fell from the Iroko and declared : if no one is going to praise me for falling and surviving, I will praise myself. This is an Igbo proverb btw. I can totally relate given the unenviable position the Igbo people found themselves after the civil war. Yes they declared a no Victor , no vanquished situation but the systemic subjugation of the entire region from then till now is all too evident , more especially in a country where the centre is extremely powerful. Go look at the federal roads in the east for example. In the face of all these , the Igbo man continues to thrive, and when they beat their chest it’s a symbolic statement . It’s like saying : mama I made it despite all odds.

The Igbo man should be cherished and celebrated , not demeaned and subjugated. Cos that will only fuel the fire and determination even more .

There is only one race and that is the human race. Ignorance may cause people to think otherwise but fortunately we still have the history books to teach us

PoliticsRe: We Need To Talk About This Boasting!!! by BitterTruth0001: 1:11am On Dec 04, 2023

I disagree with your arguments.

I don't think most other Nigerian tribes see Yorubas as "arrogant" or "Nazis". I would even argue they have the best brand and goodwill, from all other tribes, out of all the major tribes in Nigeria.

Yes, they do show a lot of pride in their history, culture, traditions, language and achievements, but definitely not in a nauseating way. As a matter of fact, they put out there pride in such a way that they are happy for others to be included in it and share in the enjoyment; and Nigerians are frequently adopting aspects of it. That is what happens when you don't disparage others and show arrogance.

Most people know Yorubas are proud and that they think they are the best, but at least they don't go around saying it publicly, nor do they try to belittle others with it. If they are going to say something bad about another tribe, they are experts in saying it behind your back and not heat up tribal wars.

That said, the thread was not about Yorubas; it was about Igbo brand challenges. I don't even know why you insist I must talk about Yorubas "to be balanced" out of all tribes in Nigeria. It is obvious many Igbos see Yorubas as their main competition in their need to claim being the best.
What’s your ethnicity?
PoliticsRe: We Need To Talk About This Boasting!!! by BitterTruth0001: 7:45pm On Dec 03, 2023
Gamesmart:
Honestly, I have lived my life watching how some few Igbos destroy the Igbo brand.

I have also read articles and seen clips about Nigerian history, some presented by independent whites, that show that certain inter-tribal relations culture by the Igbos has not changed for the better in over 70 years.

The way Igbos were described (the good and the bad) 70, 50, 30 years ago is generally the way most Nigerians would describe them today. Fair enough that same applies to some other tribes too.

But some of the bad is highly detrimental to Igbo people and the brand today, despite the great potential and ease of that not being the case, and this is not being discussed. It is sad if you ask non-Igbo people across Nigeria the tribe they 'like the least' in Nigeria and force them to answer, Igbos would play a significant role at the top across the country. This is why the bad needs to be highlighted, discussed and action should take place to intentionally change or adjust.

Let me state some observations I have made:

The chest-beating, self-delusions of some few igbo people
- Igbos don’t run Nigeria’s economy
- Nigeria would not fail without Igbos
- Igbos are not developing or transforming any part of Nigeria outside the SE
- Igbo states are not the richest states
- Igbos are not the richest Nigerians
- Igbo states (or the SE region) are not the most developed even once you remove Lagos & FCT

The facts
- Igbos are probably the most trade-inclined tribe
- Igbos are good at trade
- Igbos really only dominate (1) Transport, (2) Spare parts, (3) Electronics, (4) Building materials and (5) Hospitality sectors
- Igbos are probably the tribe that are most spread across Nigeria as local residents
- Igbos are highly competitive and a successful tribe in all aspects of life in Nigeria

To make clear, Igbos are not feared by other tribes, neither are other tribes jealous/envious of Igbos. The uncouth and antagonistic boisterous nature of a few, but sufficiently significant number of, Igbos and these few Igbo’s culture of trying to claim superiority or attack other tribes just ends up with the Igbos breaking/damaging bonds with other tribes.

You can be good at whatever you do, and even vocalise this prowess, without a need to boast you are better than everyone else, you are their benefactors, you dominate them and you will always be the best, especially when all you can back it up with is daft and wrong evidence. Even Messi, Lebron James, Einstein, Michael Jackson etc. do/did not talk like that.

This should be spread across the Igbo community!
I would’ve commended your post but it’s not balanced and treats only side of the equation
I don’t know what tribe you’re from but you fail to address the fact Yoruba people ate some of the most arrogant people that exist on this planet .
I am widely travelled , Across multiple African counties , the Middle East and the Americas .
The Yorubas remind me of Nazi Germany, the air of superiority they have towards other Nigerians is nauseating.
They even ignorantly refer to themselves as a race, forgetting there’s only one race , the human race.

An Igbo man boasts , but he only talks about himself and his achievements .

The Yoruba always looks at other Nigerian tribes and derives his arrogance from within the context of the multi-ethnic , socio-economic complexities of the Nigerian space . That my friend is more systemic and troubling

Don’t be a hypocrite
