Religion / Can Christian Couple Have Sex After Traditional Marriage Ceremony? by bizzai(f): 7:33pm On Dec 07, 2017

Can Christian Couple Have Sex After Traditional Marriage Ceremony?

Let me answer your question within the broader framework of contracting marriage using the Ghanaian Context as a Case Study

1. Whatever the Church shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever it lose in earth shall be lose in heaven (Matt 18:18). Thus God agrees to every Church Policy and Church Leadership shall be accountable to Him one day

2. Everybody must be subject to the Supreme constitution of the nation or society to which he/she forms part (Rom 13:1) unless the constitutional provision is ungodly in which case the person must listen to God rather than to human being (Acts 4:19; 5:29; Rom 3:4)

3. This means that the Christian must obey cultural norms and national laws on the process of contracting marriage which do not promote ungodliness but rather bring glory to God

4. Thus all three dimensions of Cultural, Legal and Godly provision in marriage must be adhered to for a marriage to reflect the glory of the Lord. Abraham got a wife for his son Isaac in line with all guidelines on his time (See Genesis 24)

5. As a Christian marrying within the Ghanaian Society, you need to know the stake of the family (culture), the State and the Church in process of contracting the marriage

6. The process of marriage begins with the TWO PEOPLE (Adult Male & Adult Female) involved. The two of them must agree to marry. Since they are part of a local church, they must inform their leadership to take them through counselling; they can also read books around marriage and talk to other seasoned counselors since in the multitude of counselors there is safety

7. The next step is to consult both families on the godly customary stipulations, to discuss them and fulfil them either behind close doors or as a celebration. This stage is what many call "ENGAGEMENT". Customs vary between extended families but one thing that is mostly common is that this "Customary Marriage" (Engagement) involved gathering of the two extended families and the payment of bride price

8. After fulfilling this CULTURAL Dimension of the Marriage, the couple must undertake the National Requirements for the marriage to benefit from privileges provided under the laws for marriage. However whether registers or not, the marriage is recognized by the State. Customary Marriage is therefore a union between the husband's family and the wife's family.

9. Anytime after the contracting of the marriage between the two families, the couple can REGISTER their union as Customary Marriage by writing to the Registrar of the District within which the marriage was contracted. The registration application must be accompanied by Statutory Declaration. Upon registration, the Registrar shall notify the public of the registration of the Marriage by displaying a notice on a public notice board at the Office of the Registrar within 28 days of the application for registration

10. At this stage, both the families of the couple and the State agree that the two are married. However, Customary Marriages are potentially polygynous: a man may have as many customary wives as he can, and there is no limit to the number of such marriages that can be legally registered under the Customary Marriage and Divorce Registration Law, 1985 (PNDCL 112).

11. God recognizes Customary Marriages as VALID since it satisfies the godly provisions of cultural and the State's legal framework on marriage. The couple can later decide to CONVERT it from "Customary Marriage" to "Ordinance Marriage" though there is no advantage for the Christian to go for Customary Marriage over Ordinance Marriage since general perception that Ordinance Marriage is EXPENSIVE is a MYTH (Hint: I will explain later)

12. Now HERE is the deal for Christians! Customary Marriage leaves room for polygamy and has no room for joint celebration with the local church. There is also no room for dedication of the marriage. Hence instead of going by the "Customary Marriage" Pathway, Christians go by the "ORDINANCE MARRIAGE Pathway. That means after the Cultural Ceremony between the families, the couple do not go to register the marriage as "Customary Marriage" as explained above but rather go by the "Ordinance Marriage" Pathway which I am gonna explain below

PART II: DYNAMICS OF ORDINANCE MARRIAGE PATHWAY
13. Ordinance marriage or a marriage under the Marriage Ordinance is regulated by the Marriages Ordinance, 1884-1985, and it is strictly monogamous. The requirements for ordinance marriage in Ghana are quite simple. It is an inexpensive or a very affordable way to marry. First, this form of marriage is made between a man and a woman only. The partners must be 18 years or older and none of the two entering into a marriage by ordinance shall be in any form of marriage with any other person(s). But, there is an exception where the two partners are already married to each other in a customary marriage (as discussed in Part 1 above)

14. Ordinance Marriage has has two main stages, and they are: (a) Filing a Notice of Marriage and Issue of Registrar’s Certificate; and (b) The Marriage Ceremony.

15. One of the parties in the intended marriage must give notice of marriage to the Registrar Marriage of the district where the marriage will take place. Each partner shall provide certain personal information to the registrar of marriages. They are: Name; Age; Profession/Occupation; House number (Residential Address); Father’s Name; Father’s Profession/Occupation; Condition (Status of Registrants: Single, Divorced, or in Customary Marriage); Phone number

16. The Registrar of Marriage shall then ensure the publication of banns for 21 days (3 Sundays) to be affixed to the notice board at the Registry and also on the notice board of the Church and also announced in Church to give people the opportunity to bring forward any reasons why they think the marriage should be invalidated

17. The Registrar will then issue a Registrar’s Certificate to marry to the partners AFTER the 21 days (3 Sundays) of filing the the Notice or Banns of Marriage and nobody raises any valid objection against the proposed marriage.

18. After they have received the Registrar’s Certificate to marry, the couple must go through the marriage ceremony WITHIN THREE MONTHS, otherwise the certificate becomes void and a new one must be obtained

19. The CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE which is usually called WEDDING can be a quick ceremony at the Marriage Registry, where a Registered Officer officiates and leads the partners to make solemn declarations and exchange rings and to sign the Marriage Register. After all that, a Certificate of Marriage is presented to the couple and they are pronounced Husband and Wife.

20. Alternatively, the partners may present the Registrar’s Certificate to a Registered Marriage Officer (such as a COP PASTOR) to officiate the Marriage Ceremony at a REGISTERED PLACE OF MARRIAGE (such as a Church building (ask if the Church building for your wedding is registered). The Ceremony must be done any time between 8:00am to 6:00pm to remain valid. In the Church of Pentecost, every minister called to the Pastorate (that is having the clerical) is automatically registered by the State as a Marriage Officer (thus, a Probationary Overseer or Overseer of COP is not a Registered Marriage Officer). The Pastors have been given the Certificate of Marriage by the State to issue and account for them

21. Finally, the couple must consummate the marriage. That is, they must make the marriage complete by having sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse inaugurates the process of the two becoming one

22. Take note of this: the Celebration of your Marriage (aka Solemnization of Holy Matrimony) can be a gargantuan one or a simple one depending on your budget. Cut your coat according to your size. Don't be pressured to do anything you will regret later. In fact you can arrange with your pastor to conduct your marriage within 15 minutes as Part II of a usual Sunday Service. The ball is in your court. At our wedding, we didn't have any expensive reception. Our friends and family just queued to pick up heavy snacks and while they ate, we interacted in a cocktail fashion. As simple as that!

23. Let me end by saying that if you are cohabiting and having sex with anyone but that union is neither "Customary Marriage" or "Ordinance Marriage", you are living in FORNICATION. The Church you belong to is a spiritual family so discuss with your pastor the approach you want to take towards marriage- either to go for only "Customary Marriage" or "Ordinance Marriage" or first for "Customary Marriage" and later convert to an "Ordinance Marriage". Please discuss but never engage in fornication. It's a sin against the Lord and it grieves the Holy Spirit living in us as Christians and thus deprive us of our BIRTHRIGHT

24. Those in Customary Marriage who want to make it Ordinance Marriage so as to remove the tendency for polygamy associated with Customary Marriage go through the same process as explained in Ordinance Marriage. However since they already know the unclothedness of each other, there is no wearing of veil during the Ceremony which we call "BLESSING" in COP. In COP, the veil symbolises TEAR RUBBER. Again since its an existing marriage the husband does not come to sit down for the father of the wife to catwalk her to him as if it's a new marriage. Both of them walk into the Church together for the Pastor to bless their marriage and then they sign the certificates.

Romance / My Husband And I Sleep With Other People And Our Marriage Is Stronger Than Ever by bizzai(f): 10:19am On Jun 15, 2016

In most ways, ‘James’ and I are a typical married couple with two kids. He works full-time. We make a lot of sacrifices so I can be a stay-at-home mom. Our day-in, day-out focus revolves around our kids: their accomplishments, challenges, and overall adorableness. But there is one aspect of our marriage that is not so typical.

As goofy as this sounds, I'm going to start our story with a Katy Perry song.

Several years ago, "I Kissed a Girl" came out. It was the year ‘James’ and I got married. I mentioned to him that I liked the song, and that I had once made out with a girl in college. Yes, it might have involved a few drinks, and, I have to admit, we might have been looking to get a reaction from other people at the party. We were young and having fun. But the truth was, I did like it.

This, not surprisingly, sparked his interest. From that point on, our dirty talk turned from involving just us to including a third, anonymous "her." What would we do with another woman in our bedroom? What would she do with us? Over the next couple of years, this "she" became more and more a part of our fantasies. It was fun.

Then, ‘James’ switched jobs and started to come into regular contact with a woman named ‘Natalie’. He told me how attractive she was, and said that although ‘Natalie’ knew he was married, she seemed to be flirting with him at times. At this point, we were all but certain she would never officially become our "her," but we enjoyed playing with the idea. Just for fun, I encouraged him to return the flirting and see what happened.

What happened was she invited him over to her place.

We discussed this new and exciting development. How could we turn her just liking him to her having a party with us? We had fun plotting our little scheme. We got excited just talking about it! Were we evil? What was wrong with us? We cracked up over our ridiculousness. At the same time, the more we discussed it, the more far-fetched it seemed. What were the chances she liked other women? And even if she did, what were the chances she'd be into a party?

We finally decided that our chances were slim to none. If he went to her house, I figured, the two of them would mess around and that would be the end of the story.

Then suddenly, something occurred to me: I don't think I mind that story. In fact, the more I thought about it, I liked that story. And after some careful consideration, I realized that story is a huge turn-on.

At the same time, I felt so wrong for entertaining the idea. Was I a bad wife for wanting him to sleep with someone else? A bad person?

It took several days for me to work up the courage to tell ‘James’ what I was thinking. He seemed surprised, but then carefully admitted that he had fantasized about me with another man.

We considered what this could mean for us. For our marriage. For other sexual partners. After several days, some deep discussions, and plenty of "Are you sure?" we decided we should try it.

The night of ‘Natalie’'s invitation arrived. I gave him my blessing on anything that happened that night as long as a) she understood that he was happily married, b) she knew that I was OK with him being there, and c) they were safe. He agreed. We were doing this. I kissed him goodbye, smiled, and yelled out the door, "Have fun!"

When he got home, I could not wait to discuss what happened. He and ‘Natalie’ had slept together. He recounted each moment. I soaked up every last detail. I experienced a rush of all kinds of emotions: excitement for him, excitement for me, even excitement for ‘Natalie’. I felt a strange kind of jealousy that was not negative, but actually positive. It made me want ‘James’ even more.

But something more important happened: I felt closer to him. I trusted him even more than I ever had.

In the past several years, ‘James’ and I have each had a few experiences with other people. We do it responsibly and honestly. Personally, it has been exciting, liberating, and just plain fun. As far as my relationship with ‘James’, our marriage is stronger than ever. I am certain a lot of it has to do with the sexual freedom that we have granted each other, and how we've bonded through sharing those experiences.

I didn't always think that the idea of an open marriage was acceptable. Quite the opposite. While we were dating, the thought of ‘James’ being with someone else made me feel sick. I would get jealous if I thought he was flirting with another woman. It would make me feel terribly insecure, and I would get angry with him. I still remember those feelings. But it has been so liberating to let go of them.

Now, there is no thought or desire that we can't share with each other. We support and encourage one another in all things, not just up to a point that makes us feel jealous or insecure. It's great if other couples choose to remain completely monogamous, but now I can't imagine living any other way.

Romance / Woman Make Love And Experience 'Best Orgasm Of My Life' During Child Birth by bizzai(f): 7:51am On May 05, 2016
A woman has told how she had the "best orgasm of her life" – while giving birth to her son.

Sangeeta Freeman moaned "Yes, yes, yes!" as surges of pleasure shot through her just moments before her newborn arrived.

While most women tell of agonising pain during labour, Sangeeta, of Totnes in Devon, experienced what is known as an orgasmic birth.

"During my contractions, I was thinking 'I want more of this' and it would be wonderful for it to go on as long as possible," she said.

She told how she read about orgasmic labours ahead of entering the delivery ward and was keen to explore having a natural birth.

"I didn't want one of these quick labours," she said. "I wanted one I would remember. And it was definitely that.

"It was like I was on a high, but so much better than any orgasm I had ever had."

When Sangeeta, now 42, became pregnant 16 years ago, she says she did not plan the orgasmic birth – experiencing a climax while going through labour.

It is no different to the experience felt during sex.

The former complementary therapist says she was inspired by several books about natural births which contain writings on having a birth that includes sensual pleasure.

"I was so happy when I discovered I was pregnant, I knew something really extraordinary was taking place inside my body, and I wanted to understand it on every level and make the most of the experience," she explained.

Two days before her due date in November 1999, Sangeeta started to go into what would be a 27-hour labour.

But unlike many women who are in agony, Sangeeta said she was actually enjoying the contractions.

As part of her plan to have a home birth, she invited friends round, took a bath and even had sex with her partner 14 hours into labour to increase her contractions.

"Although there wasn't much space inside me, it was just about manageable, and very pleasurable indeed," she said.

"The love I felt for my partner felt truly profound and deep."

By 7pm that night – 22 hours into labour – the midwife visited Sangeeta and recommended she transferred to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

After almost three hours in hospital, the mum of one felt intense surges of pleasure – the start of her orgasmic birth.

"I felt like I was opening up and there was no stopping it, it was absolutely incredible," she said.

"It was painful, but at the same time there were surges which were totally sensual.

"It felt like pleasure and pain merged into one. I couldn't say which was stronger - pleasure or pain.

"Then from out of nowhere I began shouting "Yes, yes, yes!".

"It felt like the best feeling in the world, a powerful and primal feeling that felt exhilarating and deeply significant, far more pleasurable than just an orgasm."

At that moment her newborn baby emerged weighing 6oz 3lb, marking the start of a deep bond between mother and child.

Her story comes as a survey by parenting site Channel Mum and the Positive Birth Movement, showed six per cent of mums claiming to have an ‘orgasmic birth’, where they found delivering their child pleasurable.

Sangeeta said she didn't use any technique to bring about the pleasurable experience, but instead was in a state of deep relaxation after facing her fears around giving birth.

She breastfed her son until he was three-and-a-quarter years old and since her "deeply sensual experience" trained as a midwife, running an independent practice in Devon.

Health / See The Food That Kills Your Sex Drive by bizzai(f): 8:28am On May 04, 2016
These foods are commonly eaten by lots of people without knowing it effects on libido.

1. Peppermint

There is this notion that chewing gums acts as an aphrodisiac. But it can actually get you to feel on the decline, especially when it is a peppermint flavour. “The menthol present in the mouth fresheners lowers testosterone levels,” says Dr. Bappaditya Mondal.

2. Alcohol

Many people think alcohol has a way of setting the mood right…but scientists have kicked against it. Dr. Mondal says that apart from decreasing your testosterone levels, alcohol also makes your stomach bloat and have this feeling of fullness. And this certainly doesn’t sound perfect for a sensuous act!

3. Apple

Surprised? Apple is high in insulin, which can easily risk your testosterone levels. Need we say more?

4. Beans

Beans is of high-fibre content, it produces ‘hard-to-digest’ sugar which lowers libido. According to Dr. Mondal, “Since it produces methane gas, it gives a feeling of fullness and thus is not recommended before having sex.”

5. Canned foods

Looking for a quick food to munch before you get into action and all you could grab is a canned food?

You will need to ave a rethink! BPA used in canned foods is bad for testosterone levels and should be avoided.

Crime / The World's 10 Worst Anti-women Laws by bizzai(f): 5:02pm On May 02, 2016
In some countries, it is legal for a man to abduct a woman if he marries her after the abduction. Also in some countries, it is a crime for a woman to put on trousers, with nine Sudanese Christian women, between the age of 17 and 23, already sentenced to 40 lashes under the Sharia law - each – for violating wearing trousers. And while wearing trousers is normal for Christian women in the country, it falls under 'indecent dress' for the Muslim population.

'Justice is the foundation stone for equality and without it, women and girls are enormously disadvantaged politically, economically and socially,' says Jacqui Hunt, the London director of Equality Now. 'At a minimum, legal equality gives women and girls a level playing field from which to build their capabilities and make meaningful contributions to society.

Below are ten of the worst anti-women laws that you would never believe still exist in today’s world…

1. Married women can be raped by their husbands

In some countries it's perfectly legal for a man to rape his wife. Despite the outrage that occured after the horrific gang rape and killing of a young student in Delhi in 2012, India actually added a clause to existing legislation in 2013, allowing a man to rape his wife if she is over 15 years of age. Similarly, in the Bahamas, it's legal for a husband to sexually assault his wife if she is over the age of 14, while in Singapore she needs to be over 13.

2. Women can be abducted

In Lebanon, any man who commits a kidnapping, rape or statutory rape can't be prosecuted as long as he marries the victim afterwards. In Malta – a European country, no less – the penalty for abduction is reduced if the perpetrator intends to marry the victim, and the perpetrator is exempt from prosecution and punishment if they do go on to marry the abducted person.

3. Women can be murdered for cheating with minimal repercussions

In Egypt, a man can kill his wife and get off with a far more lenient punishment than is typically given for murder, if he catches her in an act of adultery. The situation is similar in Syria, where a man must only serve up to seven years in prison if he murders his wife, sister, mother or daughter after finding her engaged in an 'illigitimate' sexual act.

4. Women can be beaten

In Nigeria, a man can legally assault a woman without facing prosecution if she is his wife and if there is no 'grievous' hurt.

5. Women can't leave the house when they want

A man in Afghanistan can legally restrict his wife's right to leave the house. The same is true in Yemen, where a wife's movements outside the marital home can be restricted by her other half.

6. Men choose where women can work

In countries such as Cameroon and Guinea, husbands have control over the jobs that their wives are allowed to do, since a man can ban his wife from having a different trade or profession from him.

7. Women can't get a divorce

In Israel, marriages and divorces sit under rabbinical law, which states that divorces can only take place if requested by the husband.

8. A woman's testimony is practically worthless

In Pakistan, the evidence provided by a woman is worth exactly half that of a man in certain civil matters.

9. Women can't drive

This law is well-known to many: in Saudi Arabia, the Fatwa on Women's Driving of Automobiles prohibits women from driving and from obtaining a driver's license.

10. Women don't inherit as much as their brothers

In Tunisia, women's inheritance rights are limited: sons inherit twice as much as daughters.

Health / 16 Bizarre Things Your Body Does While You Sleep by bizzai(f): 3:23pm On Apr 30, 2016

Most of us don’t know what’s happening to our bodies while we’re sleeping, because we are asleep! Sleep evokes images of closed eyes, slow breathing, dreams and relaxation. But while you're dozing, your body's systems are doing lots of crazy things that will blow your mind.

Some of these crazy mind blowing things are listed below:

1. Your body temperature drops.

Just before you fall asleep, your core body temperature begins to decrease. This drop signals to your brain to release melatonin, which affects your circadian rhythm (or sleep/wake cycle) and tells your body it's time for bed. Your temperature is lowest around 2:30 A.M., so if you're able to, program your thermostat to rise one degree at that time for an hour or two. Otherwise, you may find yourself stealing your spouse’s covers for extra warmth.

2. You lose weight.

One reason you should always step on a scale in the morning, not in the evening is that you lose water through perspiring and breathing out humid air during the night. This happens during the day too, but eating and drinking while you're awake negates any weight loss. If you're sleeping just four or five hours per night, you could be canceling out whatever smart diet and exercise choices you're making during the day. To whittle your waistline, get at least seven hours of sleep per night.

3. You get taller.

You do gain height while you sleep. The discs in your spine that act as cushions between the bones rehydrate and get bigger because the weight of your body isn't pressing down on them, like it is when you're standing. If you have a firm mattress, sleeping on your side in the fetal position may be best for getting taller because it decreases the load on your back.

Your body produces a hormone known as the human growth hormone (hgH) while you are in the deepest stages of sleep. This hormone is necessary for the growth of your muscles, bones and tissues when you are young, and then for repair and restoration once you stop growing. It is also the reason for the term ‘beauty sleep’ – sleep considered to be sufficient to keep one looking young and beautiful.

4. Your blood pressure and heart rate decrease.

When you're resting, your body doesn't need to work as hard or pump as much blood, so these systems slow down. Blood pressure needs to dip at night so your cardiac muscle and circulatory system have time to relax and repair.

It's especially important for people with high blood pressure to get at least seven hours of sleep to experience that temporary drop—it reduces the risk for heart disease.

5. Your muscles are temporarily paralyzed.

Sounds scary, but it's actually what keeps you from acting out your dreams.

That "can't...move...another...muscle" feeling comes from the fact that all sorts of normal physiological processes slow way down at bedtime, like how many breaths you take per minute and how quickly your heart beats. Even your muscles and organs chill out. The intestines quiet down in the nighttime, and the liver goes from trying to detoxify during wakefulness to trying to build and synthesize when you're sleeping. There's also less adrenaline pumping through your veins, since you won't be needing your fight-or-flight response between the sheets.

When you sleep, your throat muscles relax, causing your throat to get narrower and your breathing to change. Some people’s throats get too narrow though, which is why they tend to snore.

6. Your eyes twitch.

During REM (aka rapid eye movement) sleep, your eyes dart from side to side, not that scientists know why exactly. Dreams occur during REM sleep, so it can be disconcerting to wake up during this deep—not light—sleep stage. You might feel most refreshed if you wake up right after you cycle through all the sleep stages, with REM occurring toward the end. Though it varies from person to person, one sleep cycle usually lasts 90 minutes, so try sleeping in intervals of 90 minutes. For example, you may find it easier to awaken after sleeping for 7.5 hours (five cycles) than after 8 hours (5⅓ cycles).

7. You get sexually aroused.

Just as men get erections during REM sleep, women become sexually stimulated then, too. Your brain is more active during REM sleep (since you're dreaming), so it requires more oxygen—as a result, blood flow all over the body increases. There is natural clitoral engorgement because blood rushes to that area and causes swelling, according to research.

8. You're more likely to have gas.

You won't be happy to hear this, but during the night, your anal sphincter muscles loosen slightly, making it easier to let out a toot or two. Luckily, your sense of smell (and your spouse's) are reduced while you sleep—that's why fire alarms were invented, because it's hard to smell smoke while you're snoozing. So even if you experience flatulence, rest assured: Nobody is likely to notice.

9. You may have a full-body spasm.

As people fall asleep, many of them experience a full-body jerk, and it's totally normal. As many as 70% of people experience this phenomenon in which muscles suddenly contract. Some experts think that these spasms may have to do with anxiety and/or an irregular sleep schedule, while others think they're unavoidable. So if you like to snuggle with your spouse as you wind down in bed, be sure to pry yourselves apart before you're both out cold, or else you may accidentally shake each other awake.

10. Collagen production in your skin increases.

Collagen is a protein that strengthens blood vessels and gives skin its elasticity. When you're asleep, you're in a fasting state, so growth hormone is released to tell your fat cells to release energy stores—as it turns out, growth hormone also stimulates collagen growth. "Since collagen production spikes while you sleep, moisturizing facial creams that contain retinols and retinoids are best to use before bed because these products boost collagen turnover, combat pigment problems and fight fine lines and wrinkles," says Melanie Palm, MD, a dermatologist in Solana Beach, CA, an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego, and a staff physician at Scripps Encinitas Memorial Hospital.

11. You aren't sleeping deeply most of the time.

Not all sleep was created equal: When you first drift off, you get only very light sleep, then progress deeper and deeper into dreamland. The sleep cycle starts in what's called non–rapid eye movement or NREM stage 1 (the kind of sleep you might nab if you were the type to doze off during your college lectures). Then you move into a deeper NREM 2 and then to the deepest, NREM 3, also called slow-wave sleep. Finally, you land in rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep, the wild part of the ride when most of our dreams occur. The whole cycle usually takes somewhere between 90 and 120 minutes, so on a typical night you'll cycle through four or five times, waking up for just a sec (even if you don't realize you're awake) after REM sleep before starting over in stage 1.

As the night goes on, you spend less time in that deliciously deep stage 3 and more time in REM sleep, which explains why your alarm so often wakes you up in the middle of a totally bizarre dream. REM sleep may somehow prepare you to get your butt out of bed.

12. Your brain cleans house.

Our brains are "on" throughout the night, especially in that dream-heavy REM sleep when they're actually almost as active as they are when we're wide awake.

Among other things, they may be taking out the trash. That's one of the more exciting new ideas about the purpose of sleep: A 2013 study in mice found that waste removal systems in the brain are more active during sleep.

Your brain's also busy cementing new memories while you sleep. The brain is processing the information we gained throughout the day and filtering out the information we don't need, which may be one of the reasons we dream. The theory goes that maybe connections between brain cells are strengthened or weakened during sleep, depending on how much we used them during the day. The important stuff gets reinforced while the factoids we just don't need get trashed.

13. Sleep regulates your hunger hormones

If a frosted donut has ever looked particularly tasty after a night spent tossing and turning, at least it's not just you: Most people reach for higher-calorie foods (and more of 'em) when they've logged too few hours of sleep, which can in turn, of course, lead to weight gain. Researchers believe that the hunger-regulating hormones leptin and ghrelin get out of whack when we don't sleep well.

14. You might walk, talk, or even drive.

There's no good reason for these so-called parasomnias, or weird behaviors known to happen during sleep, but luckily they're mostly harmless. Sleepwalking and similar midslumber activities occur during stage 3 sleep, making it tough to rouse a sleepwalker from deep sleep but not dangerous to do so. (In fact, it can be dangerous not to wake them, considering their next move could be to try to get behind the wheel.) Sleepwalking, talking, or driving is usually due to sleep deprivation or is a side effect of certain medications and occurs in anywhere from 1 to 15% of us, according to the National Sleep Foundation. While it's definitely most common in kids, you probably don't have to worry if you find your spouse has migrated to the living room.

15. Dream

Some people cannot remember their dreams in the morning, while others wake up remembering a bizarre sequence of events that often seem real. Many dreams are based in reality, with elements of the person’s thoughts or the events of the previous day featuring prominently in what they dream about. Psychologists have offered several theories to explain why we dream, but so far there is no consensus. Some people even have recurring dreams, where they experience they same dream either in a short period of time or over several years.

16. You May Grind Your Teeth

Many people grind their teeth together or clench them while they are asleep, a condition that is known as bruxism. If you suspect that you may be grinding your teeth at night, you should go to your dentist and get fitted for a mouth guard immediately, because the habit could leave you with cracked teeth and sore jaw muscles.

Religion / You Are Dead, Take Your Burial Date - Pastor Tells Gov El-rufai (video) by bizzai(f): 10:44am On Apr 26, 2016
The war of words between the General Overseer, Apostle Johnson Suleiman and Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai over the controversial religious bill is not yet over, judging by the Apostle's latest comments.

Apostle Suleiman had rained curses on the governor, saying if the bill wasn't revoked, El Rufai would die.

El Rufai had responded by saying that if indeed the Apostle was truly a man of God, he should mention the date he would die.

Apostle Suleiman has now replied him. In a video, the apostle is seen saying El Rufai is dead already and that he should instead ask for the date of his burial, not death, adding that he doesn't give dates for death but only dates for burial.

Politics / Man Strips In Public Just To Buy Fuel At A Petrol Station In Lagos - Video by bizzai(f): 3:09pm On Apr 25, 2016
This issue of fuel scarcity is unbecoming... The present economic hardship is taking a whole new level now as young man stripped unclad in public at a fuel station filled with customers in Lagos. The young man who was outside the petrol station shamelessly removed his clothes in order for him to be allowed in to buy fuel.

Even a team of policemen stationed there and area boys couldn't stop him from having his way. He was finally allowed into the station where he laid down on the ground after the attendants refused to sell for him. A policeman had to beg the workers there to sell fuel for the "mad man"..

Culture / Woman Stripped In Public For Dressing ‘Inappropriately’ - Video by bizzai(f): 3:44pm On Apr 23, 2016
Indeed in this world, especially in our continent called Africa, an employee chooses what to wear but the employer chooses how to dress – words of Dan Pearce. This is just the theoretical explanation of what happened to a fully grown lady who chose to walk in the streets dressed in a “provocative” manner.

The video below was posted on a Facebook user’s timeline, and it shows how some men in the streets attacked a woman embarrassing and stripping her off her clothes to reveal her underpants simply because she failed to heed to the words of Amy E. Spiegel: “The next time you are heading out the door, pause at the mirror and make sure that what you see reflects your purpose and value…”

As at the time of filing this report, the identity of the lady and the location where this shameful act was perpetrated was still unknown.

I think our ladies have to rethink this thing called trending fashion because I believe Gianni Versace was perfectly sane and speaking from the sixth sense when he said and I quote: “That is the key of this collection, being yourself. Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.”

Ladies wake up, it's not all you see on TVs that is acceptable in the real world, and there is a clear cut between stage dressing and reality dressing.

Politics / CCT Trial: Witness Against Saraki Admits To Mistake In Investigation by bizzai(f): 10:19pm On Apr 21, 2016
Report sent in by witnesses at the on-going Saraki trial at CCT. Read below...

Prosecution Witness 1, in the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s (CCT) trial against the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, today admitted that Dr. Saraki was not interrogated by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), in-line with the procedures established by the laws that institute the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal.

Answering questions on cross-examination by Saraki’s counsel,Paul Usoro (SAN), Michael Wetkas, the first witness, who is also an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, maintained that the Senate President was never given an opportunity to confirm nor deny the allegations against him by the CCB, because it was the EFCC that had conducted the investigations relating to the claims, not the CCB.

This revelation, raises new contentions, as the precedent clause in Section 3D of the of the CCT Act, clearly states that all cases at the CCT are dependent on the fact that “the person concerned makes a written admission of such breach or noncompliance, no reference to the Tribunal shall be necessary.”

Many will recall that the Senate President stated at the commencement of the CCT proceedings that his fundamental rights based on the precedent clause of the CCT Act were abused.

In 2011, former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had his case dismissed, as the tribunal had also failed to allow him to confirm or deny the allegations brought against him by the CCB.

However, when Saraki’s lawyers filed a similar motion, Justice Umar, who gave the ruling in Tinubu’s case, stated that he had made the ruling in Tinubu’s case in error.

Meanwhile, the CCT boss has also ordered that all other cases at the CCT be stood down till further notice, as Saraki’s trial must proceed day to day until the end of the proceedings.

This ruling has raised eyebrows, as the tribunal currently has other cases to adjudicate, making many observers to ask if there is truly a timeline - as some say - to convict the Senate President using the CCT.

Jobs/Vacancies / FIRS To Recruit 1,250 Tax Collectors by bizzai(f): 9:03am On Apr 15, 2016
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as part of its plan to increase its workforce, has disclosed that it will be recruiting 1,250 persons across Nigeria as soon as the service receives its budget from President Buhari.

Mr. Babatunde Fowler, the executive director of FIRS, while disclosing this yesterday during his appearance before the Senate committee on Finance at the National Assembly, said:

“Basically what we are discussing is 2016 budget and within the budget, we do have provision for recruitment of staff in terms of staff expansion; and in total we are expected to recruit about 1,250 and we have not started and that process will start once the budget have been approved,” Mr Fowler said.

While giving his statement, Mr Flow lamented the non-payment of tax by Nigerians, saying only 10% of the country’s citizens pay their dues.

“We were in Kano earlier this week and the Emir spoke to all Muslims that payment of tax that is not against Islam. But we have people in different languages with different ideas and as a tax body we have to make sure that we can educate everyone,” the tax official said.

“We have running jingles in all major languages in Igbo, Yoruba Hausa, Pidgin English and once we sensitise the public and you understand what needs to be done, then you can start enforcement or start expecting people to pay tax; that is the media campaign.”

Mr Folwer went on to call on the House of Assembly to help the FIRS meet its targets, saying the service needs all the help it can get at less than 10% of VAT is remitted back to the state.

“If those people who are benefiting from Nigeria and actually have love for Nigeria, they can do the right thing by paying their taxes because in paying taxes, you are empowering government to provide service,” Mr Fowler said.

“We intend to make sure that we get at least a 90% compliance over the last few months we have added over 362,000 new tax payers and then our job is just to make sure that we enforce payment.”

Thirteen and just married, Jie looks at her wedding picture framed in white. Next to it, incongruously, are stickers from the Pixar movie "Cars."

Jie married her 16-year-old husband three days after they met during the Lunar New Year in 2014. Not long after, she was pregnant.

Photographer Muyi Xiao met Jie and her husband Wen in the southwestern province of Yunnan in 2014.

Jie was the youngest of a number of young Chinese newlyweds she profiled in a tender and fascinating series of images that helped earn 24-year-old Xiao a prestigious photography fellowship with the Magnum Foundation.

"Every girl I saw in these villages got married before they were 18 and some of them were extremely young," says Xiao.

"It's like something they think is normal to do -- it comes from the teachers, from the parents, from the kids."

Politics / Group Warns Gov. Wike Against Anti-buhari Protest In Port Harcourt by bizzai(f): 1:38pm On Apr 11, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been warned by a civil society organisation, the New Initiative for Credible Leadership, NILC, to stop setting off Nigerians against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Revd. Steven Onwu the Executive Director of the group while stating on Sunday that the planned protest against Buhari on Thursday in Port Harcourt is uncalled for, said that the announcement by facilitators of the protest tagged “Occupy Nigeria Season 2”, where they revealed that a protest was being planned against federal government’s inability to solve the perennial fuel scarcity in the country, is mischievous.

Onwu also said that the mass action, which is apparently being sponsored by Governor Wike, was because President Muhammadu Buhari consistently maintained his neutrality in the state’s rerun poll instead of supporting him as he had expected, IgbereTV reports.

His words: “The issue between the Minister of Transport and immediate past governor, Rotimi Amaechi and Wike has reached its limit. It is the reason Wike is sponsoring the so called ‘Occupy Nigeria Season 2’ to both embarrass and sabotage the Federal Government. If this is Wike’s strategy of getting at President Buhari for not taking sides in the re-run elections then it is very sad.

“Mr President displayed the maturity expected of a statesman by neither siding with Amaechi nor Wike; so why should the governor now be trying to burn the state simply to spite the FG,” Onwu said.

He also urged all those invited for the protest to ask critical questions before making themselves available.

He said: “Our advice to student bodies, NGOs, CSOs, CBOs and any other person or group that has been contacted for this paid protest is that they should read between the lines and understand what it is they are asking for. The economic situation in the land and the associated fuel crisis are already being dealt with from what is being reported in the media so what else is the protest meant to achieve?”

Romance / Must Read! How MouthAction Can Kill You by bizzai(f): 4:31pm On Dec 14, 2015
cc. lalasticlala ishilove
The human papillomavirus (HPV) occurs in the skin and internal membranes of the body. The important thing to remember is that HPV does not lead to HIV. They are two completely different viruses that affect different parts of the body.

One of the more common forms of cancer caused by HPV is cervical cancer. According to a study published by the Nigerian Medical Journal in 2015, there is a strong need to raise awareness about the dangers of HPV and cervical cancer and the vaccinations that can prevent them. If Nigerians are ignoring the most common type of cancer created by HPV, then mouth cancer is going to be even more obscured.

The HPV virus itself is not cancerous, but certain strains of the virus can trigger the growth of cancerous cells in the human body. Aside from the cervix, two of the more prominent areas for cancer cell growth due to HPV are the mouth and the throat. According to the Metro Magazine, HPV is responsible for 25 percent of all instances of mouth cancer in the world. The threat of mouth cancer from oral se x is real, and it is a threat that is getting more prominent.

The similarity between HPV and HIV is that the carrier typically has no idea they have the virus. The carrier develops the virus, and then the virus is passed on during the exchange of bodily fluids with someone else. The recipient is the one who runs the risk of contracting whatever disease the virus is intent upon creating.

This means that the person giving MouthAction is at risk of getting the HPV virus from the person they are pleasuring, and then the virus could trigger cancerous cell growth in the recipient. This includes genital and anal oral se x.

The HPV virus has hundreds of strains, but only a few are able to trigger cancerous cell growth. However, the rise in the number of instances of throat and mouth cancer due to oral se x cannot be ignored. The good news is that most people who contract the HPV virus never develop any disease at all. The bad news is that the HPV virus is difficult to detect in the carrier, and it can move quickly once it is passed to someone else. GENECHY reported.

Nigerians need to put more emphasis on being vaccinated for HPV, and diminishing the possibilities that they will contract any kind of disease from oral se x. Another way to decrease HPV infections is to use protection during oral s ex. This is not always a preferred method of prevention among couples, but there are plenty of protection products available that can offer pleasure and safety at the same time.
