If ain't mistakin it was in dis same Aburi sth dat Ojukwu moved for a confederation. The illiterates with him(north & sw) agreed not knowin d implication. He played with their senses so d Ibos culd secede. Hw then do u say he reneged. He only lived out d meanin of confederation. It was d dummies with him dat reneged when they finally got d gist which resulted in d civil war. So babyman get your facts right b4 opening your foul mouth.
Man, STFU! Confederation indeed! Thats all u saw that was agreed upon to at Aburi? How about giving full power to the Supreme Military Council? How about Ojukwu's statement "I'll be the first to proclaim Jack (Gen.Gowon) as Head of State as soon as we land in Nigeria"?!? What did he do the moment he landed? Declare Biafra! You monkey, dont try to play on my intelligence. Or, rather, read instead of listening to what Grand-MA told you! Remember, Grand-Ma couldnt read or write, so, how could she have known better than historians?!!

Well, I'll try to go with "Educated reply". . . . . . grin. Chyz,  I came across this piece as I was looking for something else. Upon further reading (or "Perusal" as Dede1, MENTALgong and co would have said just to show that they "Over-stand" the English language) I saw some things which I wasnt initially privy to; mainly [that] (1) Ironsi "forced" the civilian govt to hand over to him (2) a Northerner could have been sworn in as Prime Minister but the Ibo Acting President REFUSED to conduct the ceremony ect. These were revealing. There is more (as I'm sure you know); Of course I cant state it all in here. One thing I can say for sure, though, is that I havent read a more interesting piece in a long time. Thankfully, the author cant be accused of trying "MBUnize" us as he was a first person participant in the events he wrote about. . . . . cant say the same for most of what we've been reading out of Eastern Nigeria these days!

PoliticsAnother Revelation On The Jan.1966 Coup by bkbabe97y(op): 7:46am On Sep 15, 2010
This is another line I never saw, and still havent heard anyone on here mention. As you will see below, it is highly delusional that these Ibos think Northern Nigerian muslims will easily forget all their treachery the last 45 years! As the link below shows, on Jan.16, 1966, a Northerner could have been sworn in as acting Prime Minister but the person to administer the oath (You guessed it; an Ibo man) REFUSED to swear in a Northerner, agreeing instead to let the Military, led by a fellow Ibo, take over a constitutionally elected government; this after every top non-Ibo politician had been viciously hacked to death by an all-Ibo military, blood-thirsty, death squad! Below are appropriate links. Enjoy reading:

“Talking on the first coup, when Balewa got missing, we knew Okotie-
Eboh had been held, we knew Akintola had been killed. We, the
members of the Balewa cabinet started meeting. But how can you have a
cabinet meeting without the Prime Minister acting or Prime Minister
presiding. So, unanimously, we nominated acting Prime Minister
amongst us. Then we continued holding our meetings. Then we got a
message that we should all assemble at the Cabinet office. All the
Ministers were requested by the G.O.C. of the Nigerian Army, General
Ironsi to assemble. What was amazing at that time was that Ironsi was
going all over Lagos unarmed. We assembled there. Having nominated
ZANA Diphcharima as our acting Prime Minister in the absence of the
Prime Minister, whose whereabout we didn't know, we approached the
acting President, Nwafor Orizu to swear him in because he cannot
legitimately act as the Prime Minister except he is sworn- in. Nwafor
Orizu refused. He said he needed to contact Zik who was then in West
Indies.
Under the law, that is, the Interpretation Act, as acting President,
Nwazor Orizu had all the powers of the President. The GOC said he
wanted to see all the cabinet ministers. And so we assembled at the
cabinet office. Well, I have read in many books saying that we handed
over to the military. We did not hand-over. Ironsi told us that "you either
hand over as gentlemen or you hand-over by force". Those were his
words. Is that voluntary hand-over? So we did not hand-over. We
wanted an Acting Prime Minister to be in place but Ironsi forced us, and
I use the word force advisedly, to handover to him. He was controlling
the soldiers. The acting President, Nwafor Orizu, who did not cooperate
with us, cooperated with the GOC. Dr. Orizu and the GOC prepared
speeches which Nwafor Orizu broadcast handing over the government of
the country to the army. I here state again categorically as a member of
that cabinet that we did not hand-over voluntarily. It was a coup. “

Bk.babe97, I won't dignify your ignorant rabble rousing.  If you think that what happened in 1966 was a conspiracy among the general Igbo population to kill those you mentioned, there is nothing I can say to you to change your mind.  I can tell from your posting that you hate Igbo and that's your prerogative.  Nothing justifies the ethnic cleansing of the Igbo period.

In 1966, Ndigbo had more to lose than any other tribe in Nigeria. Nigeria had 4 regions, Igbo controlled two. Ndigbo controlled the economy of Nigeria, the civil service and the top echelon of the military.  The idealist military hawks that struck in 1966 were purely misguided and if they had consulted the Igbo at large, they would have been dissuaded from their misadventure.

The Igbos had it made in Nigeria and would have preferred the sustenance of the status quo if they were consulted. You think we are doing well now? In 1966 we were on top of the world with fastest growing economy in the east and we controlled every good thing in Nigeria.

Try as you and your ilk may, you can't kill the indomitable Igbo spirit! Be aware,  that what transpired in the pogrom of Ndigbo can never happen again. Forget my trepidation, Ndigbo will resist any attempt to exterminate us again. We are no t going to rumble like it is 1966 believe me.
I hate Ibos? Well, If thats how u see it why should I change your mind? However, if ure not a bigot, a tribalist, or a rabble-rousing Biafran then, u, my dear friend, have nothing to fear.

Sure, in 1966 yall were on top of the world. I like how u forgot to include that cus yall thought youd  lose power Your Zik and co attempted to hand over power to the military, when the Military refused to accept the "handover", Ifeajuna (Zik's cuz) planned a coup and killed everyone else that didnt refer to themselves as "Nna or Nnwane". . . . . . . U know the rest.

All Im saying is; if this time yall decide to go ape-shiyt, remember to add a few Ibos to the death toll; we both know them Northern boys aint playing when it comes to sword-swinging!

PoliticsRe: Aburi Accord by bkbabe97y(m): 6:05am On Sep 15, 2010
KKmoney:
Aburi Accord was reached in1967 at a meeting attended by delegates of both the Federal Government of Nigeria (The supreme Military Council) and the Eastern delegates, led by Colonel Ojukwu. The meeting was billed to be the last chance of preventing the civil war. It was held between 4 and 5 January 1967.Aburi, Accra Ghana was chosen as a venue because the eastern delegates led by the Governor of Eastern State Colonel Ojukwu's safety could not be guaranteed anywhere within in the western or northern part of the country.

Aburi accord is as follows:
Members agree that the legislative and executive authority of the Federal Military Government should remain in the Supreme Military Council, to which any decision affecting the whole country shall be referred for determination provided that where it is possible for a meeting to be held the matter requiring determination must be referred to military governors for their comment and concurrence.
Specifically, the council agreed that appointments to senior ranks in the police, diplomatic, and consular services as well as appointment to superscale posts in the federal civil service and the equivalent posts in the statutory corporation must be approved by the Supreme Military Council.
The regional members felt that all the decrees passed since January 15, 1966, and which detracted from previous powers and positions of regional governments, should be repealed if mutual confidence is to be restored.

The following are the delegates at the Aburi Conference:

Chairman of the Ghana National Liberation Council -Lt.-General J.A. Ankrah-Chairman
Lt.-Col. Yakubu Gowon- Head of State
Major Mobolaji Johnson - Governor Lagos State
Colonel Robert Adebayo - Governor Western State
Lt.-Col. Hassan Katsina - Governor Northern State
Lt.-Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu- Governor Eastern State
Lt.-Col. David Ejoor-Governor Mid-Western State
Commodore J.E.A. Wey-Governor Rivers State
Alhaji Kam Selem
Mr. T. Omo-Bare
S. Akenzua Permanent Under-Secretary-Federal Cabinet Office
P. Odumosu Secretary to the Military Governor-West
Alhaji Ali Akilu Secretary to the Military Governor-North
N. Akpan Secretary to the Military Governor-East
D. Lawani Under Secretary, Military Governor's Office-Mid-West.
But then Ojukwu, whilst having wet-dreams of Ijaw Oil (and after agreeing to abide by the accord) in his typical Ibo way, reneged, thereby precipitating the Nigerian civil war. Thankfully, the war was fought and won in Biafra and no other part of Nigeria was affected. Because of this war (and malnourished Ibo kids) Kwashiokor became a more popular word in the english Lexicon!

Going by the comments of the tribal iredentists here, Ndigbo should in my mind view Ihejrika's elevation with trepidation. The last time an Igbo held this position in '66, it was calamitous for ndigbo. It appears now that the fate of 30 million Igbo now is in the hands of another Igbo army general.
Well, me thinks yall cool if you guys dont:

2. Kill a Top Northern Politician

3. Kill a Top Mid-Western Politician

4. Kill the top Western Politician

5. Hint the top Ibo Politician to flee the country under the guise of a holiday even though an important meeting of World Heads of States is being held in his country

PoliticsRe: I Can End Violent Crimes With 5,000 Policemen — Ribadu by bkbabe97y(m): 6:12pm On Sep 14, 2010
omojand:
I completely agree with Ribadu. In the modern era, policing is no longer simply a game of numbers! 30,000 competent,  very mobile, dedicated and well equiped police men will be more effective than the 350,000 we have in Nigeria today.

There are two key factors to consider here -

1) 5,000 committed, well trained police officers can lead change transformation through the system
2) Violent crime requires rapid response capability and diligent investigative work - 350,000 incompetent zombies may even compound matters.

Its only in Nigeria that armed robbers can lay siege to a bank for hours and it will take up to 3 hours for the police to arrive!, despite that these robbers are not that sophisticated. Why isn't there a tactical response unit that includes trained snipers, equipped even with helicopers, motor bikes? All you need do is twart 10 high profile robberies in a state in dramatic style and watch the effect on those crude robbers. The simple truth is that majority of the senior officers are backward, incompetent and have no clue. GEJ has done well by appointing an AIG and hopefully removing all those DIGs.  But the police force requires transformative leadership by young, vibrant, dedicated officers like Ribadu.

The one thing that shocks me is the mindset of most Nigerians - reading the response on this forum. It shocks me that most people either ignore, or fail to see the reasons the senior police officers wanted Ribadu out at all cost. We just carry on - business as usual and even condemn the victims, sucked in by the extreme propaganda of those desperate to keep Nigeria where it is.

I have always believed that in Nigeria, it's the people that are the biggest problem (ignorance!) and not our leaders.
Spot on!
