CelebritiesI Would Love To Engage Asiwaju BAT-Oki Samson- CEO Mckinggs Media & TREK Africa by black9(op):
Born on the 20th of April earlier 1980s, to the family of Oki Ayinla in Okitipupa, Ondo state, Oki Samson Olatunji is a name that has over the years established a brand renowned for excellence in the media world and authority in youths advocacy. Although he maintains a low profile, the trained accountant cum publicist and media guru is the CEO of Mckinggs media productions, a branding and media company with major interests in advocacy, publicity, photography, publishing, events and talent developments.
In this Interview with Obasa Deji, a foremost urban entertainment publicist, the Ambient Orator, Oki Samson discusses his Life, Passion, Projects, Role Models, Advocacy and Plans for the Future. He has successfully mobilized the youths for countless community initiatives, hosts of the annual skill empowerment, Trek Africa Entrepreneurship Conference and the prestigious Trek Africa Awards and National Discourse, Samson is more popular as a voice that resonates with the youths, owing to his numerous initiatives and programmes which keeps empowering several entrepreneurs and emerging young leaders. Enjoy the exciting excerpt.

Nairaland: Would you briefly discuss your background.
Oki: My Dad is from Ondo while my mum is from Sierra Leone, Third of four boys, all through my nursery years, I was homeschooled before attending Victoria island Primary School and Kuramo College in Victoria island, Lagos. It was there I discovered I had a flair for literary arts but didn't pursue a career because I felt the pay would be low but that didn't stop me from representing my schools excellently during debates and competitions. I eventually went on to study Accounting at the Lagos State University where I discovered my passion for politics.

Nairaland: Can you describe how your journey into media began?
Oki: Asides my flair for arts, I also took keen interest in photography, especially in my university days, i was always taking pictures, as time passed, I underwent several programmes and trainings in Photography and Video editing, some were even sponsored by outsiders who admired my interest. I launched Mckinggs media productions back in 2011 at my church, it was broadcast on national TV. Beginning as a team of 3, We were initially into visual production, photography, talent development, events and magazine but when every aspect except TV production flourished, basically because we couldn't meet the demands of 13 episodes, we continued with our Trek Magazine and skills acquisition training projects; like the Creative Entrepreneurship Opportunities (CEOs) which began with 30 participants. I must also add that Like minded hands helped in building the Mckinggs' brand and willing clients still engage us and give us referrals from time to time. I was also, a Freelance writer for New Telegraph Newspaper.

Nairaland: Would you mind discussing memorable projects and Ongoing ones.
Oki: Mckinggs has handled several projects but the most memorable ones include covering the Federal government Amnesty Project under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, being a Volunteer/ grassroots campaign mobilizer for the Buhari-Osinbajo and Ambode campaigns and also co-organizing mega concerts for churches and youths. Others are mainly celebrities, politicians, NGOs and personalities. But for some years now, we have been running our Trek Africa Entrepreneurship Conference which engages unemployed youths with skill empowerment schemes, turning them into employers of labour thereby creating wealth distribution in the economy. Also the Trek Africa Awards that bring together eminent personalities and leaders across Africa has been on for four years and currently I'm working on a book project alongside a few like minded youths.

Nairaland: Who would you describe as your major influence?
Oki: In the media world, Babajide Kolade Otitoju is an evergreen inspiration while I'm inspired by the leadership qualities of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Growing up, his presence was always felt across Lagos. I would love to engage the Jagaban in an interactive session. Both men have managed to stay relevant over the years.

Nairaland: Which events would you describe as the turning points in your career?
Oki: My happiest moment was when I got the federal government Amnesty project, I didn't even negotiate and I got a bigger cheque than expected, considering I was just starting up. My saddest was when I lost my dad, it was surreal because he was just middle aged and a very caring father, my embarrassing moment is a recurring one, because of my busy schedule and my single status, friends keep matchmaking me with blind dates.

Nairaland: What brought about your interest in youth development and advocacy, as your programmes are mostly youth oriented?
Oki: Ideas rule the world and our youth are filled with ideas and leadership traits. We all can see our youth excelling in various fields including sports, banking, ICT and entertainment, the difference between them and the millions of unemployed graduates is the exposure and the ability to maximise their potential. Which is what we are trying to do with our activities. Also I have always been an admirer of talent and I believe given the proper platform, a lot of talent can be maximised in Nigeria. The Bible teaches us to trade with our talents, now you see companies and brands using youths who have harnessed their potential as brand ambassadors. Besides let's face it, the government and blue-chip companies can't completely help us, we have to help ourselves and each other too, which is why I'm an advocate for skills acquisition and entrepreneurship which is a better option if we must diversify the National economy. The youths are in a better position to restore the economy of the nation.

Nairaland: To what would you ascribe your success story?
Oki: First and most importantly, i give all glory be to almighty God for his continuous inspiration. I would like to describe myself as a go-getter, following the footsteps of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I like rendering services and really enjoy being the man behind the scenes, thankfully It has made a positive impact on my brand. Most people find it hard to believe I'm really the man behind the projects when we finally meet following the massive success.
My mum's younger sister and Senator Oluremi Tinubu gave me the confidence when I needed it the most so they are highly placed in the Trek success story.

Nairaland: If not media, what would you have ventured into?
Oki: Considering my enthusiasm towards advocacy and accounting background, I believe I would be either a lawyer or a successful banker.

CelebritiesNigerian Music: Genesis Of An Industry by black9(op): 8:28pm On Jan 18, 2018
Right from time, Nigeria has always been foremost in entertainment across Africa, especially when it comes to music, where despite the interesting competition in the industry, there is still enough room and love to go round. It is also remarkable that despite the nation's terrible economy which can be summed up as being comatose, the music sector has continued to flourish and the growth experienced in the industry within the past few years has been monumental to say the least. Now, In Nigeria, unlike before, when it was regarded as a lazy man's hustle, music now serves in different interesting capacities, most popularly as the quickest springboard to fame and a goldmine amongst many others.

Our music culture which recently began to gain international recognition had been evolving at a very fast pace and tragically without proper documentation. The advent of the internet and social media which revolutionised the global scene is also credited for bringing entertainers closer to their audience and is proving to be much more useful in Nigeria; as a digital library in the cause of documentation and viral marketing/promotion.

Unlike the days of CDs and USBs, when hundreds of promo copies had to be made to launch an effective promo or when you had to buy TV time to reach out, music promotion has been made easy now that the internet and social media has revolutionised the music industry, practically controlling every aspect of the media including TV.

Now, armed with an array of talents (artistes, sound engineers, writers and instrumentalists), wealthy sponsors, professional managers, top notch PR teams and reputable showcase platforms such as awards and music festivals, the Nigerian music industry appears to be fully geared for global conquest, but without the proper documentation of the progress we are currently making, we are bound to lose touch with our genesis, for It is just a matter of time before we forget the roadmap that led us to our music El Dorado. It is a popular fact that only a handful from the current horde of trending entertainers actually pioneered the different movements that has brought about the music privileges and benefits currently being enjoyed. Now, Nigeria has gotten so big that other than being the #1 entertainment destination in Africa, its celebrities are also being compared to internationally renowned superstars. And with the exploits of our artistes continuing to trend globally, it is just a matter of time before the subject of our music origins falls under global scrutiny, a situation where music pundits all over the world will begin to dissect and give varying verdicts (most will definitely be biased), maybe then we would wake up and realize the importance of this phase.

A short walk down memory lane of the major turning points in mainstream music within the last 10 years include the entry of late indigenous rapper, DaGrin, who made indigenous rap fit into mainstream music and most notably, the defunct Mo hits crew who featured Snoop Dogg in the billboard hit "Mr. Endowed", a collaboration that improved the international relations and perspective of our music industry, ever since, others who have dared to veer international have always set the bar way ahead. Asa stormed the industry with her unique out of this world sounds while Banky W went on to popularise the concept of "cover" with his Ebutte Metta rendition of Rihanna's Umbrella. Terry G made crazy look cooler than Charly Boy did, Mode 9 gave rap a footing in Nigeria and left MI with the burden of keeping it undiluted. Wizkid's entry is definitely a major turning point in music from Africa. The unseen rivalry between himself and fellow entrants, Olamide and Skales kept Wizkid on his toes. And with Olamide moving on to build his own empire and movement, the appearance of Davido appeared to be the deal breaker for everyone, initially in the Nigerian music scene, but later on across Africa too. With his status showoff and extravagant spending, Davido rattled and became the new driving force in the industry. The industry has since changed from being a mediocre affair to a war zone, with record labels locked in stiff competition, established artistes scrambling for endorsements while new acts keep going under before they even get heard, just because they don't understand the game.
A closer look at the current entertainment industry gives the illusion of an unscripted movie, with roles available for every Nigerian entertainer.

Unknown to most, especially the fast rising and next rated acts, in order to stay relevant, everybody plays a role, the goal is to find a role, build it and work with it or the tougher option, find a way to expunge the character you'd like to play.

Currently, Wizkid is the crowd's favorite, Olamide is the king of the streets, Runtown has claimed the title of sound god, Don Jazzy is the industry mentor/ OG. D Banj is the stylish OG/business man. Tiwa Savage is the queen of pop while Simi is the Queen of vocals. Patoranking is the reggae king and Davido is money man. Falz, by channelling his reservoir of knowledge and IQ into music ultimately became the king of wordplay, and the list goes on

With the current "trending" family constantly dropping tracks and remaining relevant, it would seem they are sending a "buckle up" message to the next generation of artistes and courtesy of all the artistes pushing the country into the global spotlight, Nigerians have earned the bragging rights as music champions, with only The Grammy and Soul Train Awards yet to be won by a Nigerian.

CelebritiesWhat Is Black Magic Upto? by black9(op): 2:54pm On Jan 14, 2018
It is a popular fact that music in Africa has been evolving at a very fast pace and with the discreetly intense competition among the artistes, it takes the grace of God coupled with consistency and smart work to keep up.

With several talented artistes going under before they are even heard, few have been fortunate to hit the limelight, albeit briefly, one of such is Efemuna Mukoro aka Black Magic.

A Computer Science graduate of Uniben, Black magic's breakthrough into mainstream music was a much deserved one, having began music since 2001, before being discovered in 2007, then moving on to parting ways with a label he reportedly played an integral role in developing. When he finally hit the spotlight with Repete, he became the rave, he jumped from being a face in the crowd to an immediate B-list celebrity and Nigerians loved him. But as they say, all things come to an end, after a few hits, Black Magic went off the music scene and hasn't returned since. His disappearance keeps raising concerns among fans who would rather believe he went to juice up than abandon the game.

With a style that stands out in any crowd, Black Magic joined the wagon of celebrities who promised to bring home Grammy and Nigerians proved to be a loyal audience but not much has been heard from him in a very long time except for the collabo with FettyWap which didn't gain much traction as expected.
Question Stands; Where is Black Magic Repete and What is He Upto"

The popular Cool FM presenter's disappearance from the social scene initially gave way to baseless insinuations of a meltdown and when he didn't announce any project for the year, it was a big blow to his fans and lovers of rap music, especially viewers of Rap Nation, but Caesar during a chat with journalists reassured everyone of his commitment to the entertainment industry and went on to confirm the return of Rap Nation, adding that it would be bigger than before " Yeah, I slowed down to go behind the scenes to build the label and to create the kind of content I wanna confidently put my name behind besides I'm currently working on a movie with Temi and I'm also about to unleash a new music sensation called Sharon King, she is one of kind. And personally, I'm dropping something soon with Marvis of Big Brother Naija. Just so you all know, Rap Nation season 3 is coming next year, this time the prize for the winner is way much bigger and we are taking it nation wide" and attending to the issue of those spreading false stories of a meltdown, the bodybuilding

Caesar, whose career was assumed to be nosediving has always been one of the most sought after entertainment personalities in Nigeria, but after becoming less active on the social scene, insinuations started flying that his split from Eva might have sent him into a pit of no return. Agnes Khris, an entertainment pundit reasons the couple's seclusion was the best thing, while claiming " It would be interesting to learn that people have been more concerned with peeling old wounds rather than staying updated but now that he has come out with so much, we should be expecting more from Eva and that's a good thing for Rap in Nigeria " She added.
