Today, I removed the splint, just under a month in treatment.

I had noticed for some days that the turkey had been walking fairly well, and standing on both legs. So, I gave it a few more days and removed the splint today. it's been behaving fine, after taking a few long minutes to scratch the affected thigh.

I'm happy it turned out well. And, for the first time, I feel glad that this happened, to teach me that it was possible to treat a broken fermur in such big birds

... I'm always surprised at issues arising from tribal differences. Isn't it confounding that our parents will allow us marry "rich" people from another tribe but when it comes to the average person, all laws immediately come into foray. Tribe should be one of the least things to look out for in a spouse. Humans are the same, though our environment influences our morals, social life and character. In my humble opinion, the environment which is primarily the family one grew up in is a better precursor of an individual's values. A fellow tribesman/woman can be your downfall as well as your pillar of support. Evil knows no tribe, religious beliefs, family, country or whatever denomination you may be from. The earlier we start seeing people as individuals instead of tagging "yoruba person" "aboki" "omo igbo" to their heads, the better for our country.

You only limit yourself if you let yourself be blinded by tribe even your own family can frame you up. A complete stranger can be the helper of your destiny. Many have lost valuable people due to nonsense tribal sentiments.

We are never born to hate on a particular tribe or people but it's often learnt from our parents or a general misconception arising from one person's experience of another from a tribe. Let's not allow a person's experience guide how we treat our fellow humans.

Be cautious, trust no one because evil knows no color or religion.

Unfortunately, I don't intend disposing/selling off for now . Although, I have started castrating all other male goats due to the persistent fights and troubles given to the females.
Moreover, I should be buying another sets of bucks from a source soonest to help sort out issues that might arise with inbreeding.

Hello.

Today was significant in that it was exactly one week since the unfortunate injury. The bird is in high spirits, has good appetite and always wants to be with others, when I release the healthy ones. Sometimes, I'd help it down.

But today, I noticed it was squatting perfectly, folding both legs well. That shows it has begun applying more pressure on the broken thigh. Before now, it'd lay sideways, with injured leg stretched. Secondly, it no longer likes to eat in lying position. It always wants to stand (on one leg) to eat.

Guess it's an improvement.

Well, it's still alive. Began eating small feed last night. Ate again this morning.

I had to use cloth and sticks to splint the thigh. It sometimes stands on one leg and drops after after a few minutes. It's visibly in serious pains. I feel pity for the poor thing

I won't kill it. I'll just care for it and watch what happens. If it does, okay. But if it survives, I'll be happy.

Guess I'll be blogging its progress here. Problem is when lockdown ends, i.may not know its activities during the day. But I'll tell its story to build our knowledge base here and for us to learn.

Please nairalanders i need your urgent suggestion on what to do about this issue.

My wife accused me of snoring in the night but i denied it knowing so well that i dont snore.

Then she ask me what she should do to let me know i snore. I told her to give me a heavy knock whenever i snore though jokingly but seriously because i know i dont snore.
Since that time my head has never remain the same. Anything i do something that displeases her she will give me a heavy knock in the night and when i ask her what the problem is, she will tell me that i was snoring.

I even went to the extent of staying awake all night to catch her and unfortunately for her she came and gave me one of her usual heavy knock thinking i was sleeping!

I would have given her the beat of her life that night if not that i promised myself not to lay my hand on my wife.

Please what do i do to stop this nefarious and relatiative attitude of my dear loving wife?

I salute you people that rear turkeys. Those things most especially the female ones are highly destructive (they eat plants) and are terrible noise makers, making noise up and down like they are looking for something they lost . They will climb fence or be wandering up and down making some irritating noise like they are looking for a lost treasure.

Good one. Unfortunately, I lost mine to snake attack on the farm. Found it dead on Friday morning with bite marks on it. Gave part of the eggs out and left with 10.

Turkey hens are one of a kind. So far so good, I have only bn blessed with a good turkey hen, the rest are just carefree and careless mothers. Yes, you are correct to say fertility decreases over time, cos I have had to use an incubator in hatching and the recommended duration advised is usually a week old eggs.
I have also employed the use of local chicken hens to hatch their eggs but I find that too stressful for the hens (28 days plus ain't moi-moi)

Nevertheless, your turkey hen hatching naturally wouldn't pose a problem, by instinct it should know when the time is right. (I once had a turkey hen that layed 28 eggs )
