If you're Toronto tomorrow October 12th, you could stop by to interact and hear from the remaining survivors about the horrors and tragedy of the residential school system. 6 Likes

A three-day cultural gathering to honour residential school survivors and their families began Tuesday at Nathan Phillips Square outside Toronto City Hall. The Indian Residential Schools Survivors Legacy Celebration aims to spread awareness about its namesake project, a collaboration between Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto, which will consist of an Indigenous healing garden at Nathan Phillips Square centred around a sculpture. 8 Likes 2 Shares

Saintp: Hi, you can go to any Service Ontario centre after landing and you have all the required documents to register. As you rightly stated, you get access to public healthcare 3 months after landing and living in the province. The requirements and other relevant info are listed here, https://www.ontario.ca/page/documents-needed-get-health-card It's not something to be unusually worried about as if you enjoy relatively good health then you'll be fine. I and my crew came with just a pack of Paracetamol and a dose of anti malarial drugs in case we break down from the stress of relocating as well as worm expeller. I ended up throwing most of them away as we didnt need them and everyone was fine. If you need to cover yourself though, you can get medical insurance from IGI, AIICO and AXA Mansard to name a few. They are a cheaper alternative than going with Canadian insurance companies and paying from your precious POF. 14 Likes 11 Shares |

balogunsam: Hi, as requested, provide your name, current address details and driving license number. The letter can be addressed 'To whom it may concern' or if you know it, you can request it to be addressed to the driving licensing agency in your destination province whose details you can find online. 8 Likes 6 Shares |

If you're in Mississauga or Brampton in Ontario, you can catch free movies and live concerts at Square One, Mississauga or Garden Square, downtown Brampton in the evenings. It's just a way to connect with your community or neighborhood and have a good time while the summer lasts. 14 Likes 4 Shares

MissMoroti: Hi, it's a numbers game in that, you have to keep searching, looking for accommodation until you find a landlord/building manager who will waive those requirements. As I've previously detailed here, I also got accommodation without credit report and Canadian employment reference. A lot of patience is required as other people also looking for same accommodation but not having those requirements are also hunting. But success is possible. You just have to hunt extra and believe that you will succeed 10 Likes |

mynaija123: Please see these excerpts directly from IRCC website regarding pursuing Express Entry through the Skilled Trades route, Skilled work experience Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC): •Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades •Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades •Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production •Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators •Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks •Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers The major NOC groups are subdivided into different occupations, and they are all skill type B. You must show that you performed the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC. This includes all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed. If you do not show that your experience meets the description in the NOC, we won’t accept your application. Get assessed by the province or territory You will likely have to go to the province or territory to be assessed for your trade. You may also need an employer in Canada to give you experience and training. To learn more about getting assessed, you should go to the website of the body that governs trades for the province/territory where you would like to live and work. The process is different depending on where you want to go. Each website has more details about certificates of qualification to work in that province or territory in a specific skilled trade, and what you have to do to get one. So please note it is not enough to get forklift driving certificate there in Nigeria, you may have to come to your desired province here, get tested and then obtain their own trades certificate before you return back to Nigeria to pursue the PR through Express Entry for Skilled Trades. In my opinion, it's easier to get the PR through Skilled Worker route but here is the link to Skilled Trades requirements on IRCC website for you to study, https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/skilled-trades.html And yes, you will still need to show adequate proof of funds if you are pursuing Skilled Trades, see here - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/proof-funds.html 3 Likes |

Jesuba: Hi, yes they will have to walk. The alternative as already pointed out to you by salford is to drive/walk them to school your self or engage a private school bus company to drop/pick them up for you at your expense. You could contact Attridge Transportation, a private bus company I just found that covers your city and make enquiries among your options, http://attridgetransportation.com/daily_school_bus_routes 12 Likes 8 Shares |

katyamizotta: Hi, I wouldn't use the word 'easy' I would rather just ask, how best do I get an apartment in Canada? That being said, there have been numerous advices and experiences shared here in this forum. I would recommend you read backwards to catch up on the nuggets of wisdom that people have shared on this issue and you will be better prepared to house hunt when you land. People have been able to find accommodation without having a Canadian job or credit history. A complete lack of references might be an issue though for some landlord/building managers. In summary, the whole process could involve the use of AirBnB, checking online vacancies, using rental magazines available here at major bus stops and shopping centres as well as word of mouth. You might be fortunate that someone here could provide a lead to you once you know where you're landing and you reach out. 11 Likes |
