1. Yes
2. He's 60 years
3.No

So does he still have a chance ?

I wouldn't exactly close the door on his hopes though his age is not on his side, points wise. He may be able to wangle a way in via a provincial nomination. His spouse as the primary applicant may also be a means by which they can pursue PR

Try the CRS calculator to see where he/she stands on their own/how much points they could get via simulation, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

Then take a look at the websites of the different provinces to see which one has a sub program either of them could qualify for:

Is there any way to chase for an update on PR cards? Is there an email address I can send a request for an update to?

Arrived mid January, some weeks later we were asked to send in new passport photos. We sent these in and tracked the mail to confirm receipt, and both passport photos (sent via separate envelopes) were delivered and signed for by the same person on the same day. Both our PR card applications have been linked to the cic account to track progress. Last Thursday my spouse's application changed to approved and card has now been delivered today, but there's been no change to my PR card application.

I need to travel soon because of work.

Any info on how to chase for an update is much appreciated.

Hi, there is no published phone number for the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, NS but you can try the Call Centre 1-888-242-2100 for those who are in Canada. Others outside can try contacting the Call Centre +1 613 944 4000 (for an agent: use options 1,2,1,2,1 ...then 0 to skip the recorded message) from outside Canada.

I don't know if you fall under this category but for those who applied for PR more recently (EE/PNP) you can follow the following steps after landing to know the status of your PR card processing. Do note you only have 5 attempts in one day.

1) Login to CIC account.
2) Go to section "Link an existing application to this account". Click on "Link application to this account" button.
3) Select category as PR Card
4) Select "Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and Family Name"
5) Fill required details (please make sure of capital, small, comma etc.)
6) Provide landing date in "Date you became a permanent resident"
7) Click on 'search my application'
cool after application searched, make sure you submit application else it not link

Once you have successfully linked your application it will show you as "Submitted" status and once it is ready for dispatch it will go into "Approved" status.

The steps above were copied from a post at canadavisa forum, hope it helps.

Good day people, please how does Air bnb work? Have heard people talk about it on this thread about how helpful it was when they landed. I have someone that's about to land soon and he has no place to stay yet. Thank you!

Hi, AirBnB is an online portal where people who have homes/space in their homes can place ads on the site for people who need a temporary place to stay. For instance, one landlord could have a 3 bedroom place but only using 2 rooms, so such a person could rent out the third room on a short term basis and share the facilities in the house. Another person could have a basement apartment available to rent out. Some people have multiple homes they own and want to rent out the homes on short term. So depending on your need and budget, you can check AirBnB to see if any one has accommodation available that you could rent.

Where this works out for us new immigrants is that you can find a place that is already furnished where you can stay while you get all your landing formalities completed and then find accommodation for more longer term. Some people use AirBnB to find a place to stay for short landing and then return to Nigeria without having to sign any lease agreement. An increasing number of people also prefer AirBnB for when they vacation here so they can cook their own meals and enjoy more comfort and freedom than the formality of a hotel stay. There have been cases where landlords have established good rapport with some tenants and taken their homes off AirBnB to keep the tenant there so such tenant does not need to move again.

Let your friend register on AirBnB and begin to review the choices available that could meet their short term need for a place to stay. It's a nice way to ease into the system here. Hope this answers your question.

Hi friends!
I need large-size transportations in Canada (Toronto). Where it is possible to order such service?
We have found new house, it is necessary to move. I have found only Miracle Movers services.
It is the checked

Hi, you can also try Two Men and a Truck, they have online presence to get their details and rates. I also found this link online just now for you to check out, https://homestars.com/on/toronto/moving-storage?page=2&

In my case, I got a large U-Haul truck, a group of my friends and the move was done in 1 day. Drove the truck myself smiley

Long post Alert. Make una no vex abeg.

We got our PPR on the 25th October 2017. Got our Visas and COPR in December 2017. I enrolled with Acces Employment Pre-Arrival services in December 2017. I attended a lot of webinars, read through my modules, did my assignments. They worked on my Nigeria CV and turn it into a Canadian styled resume. At the completion of the modules, I was assigned a Job Developer – his role was to work with me to get a job.

I arrived in Ontario on March 2nd, 2018 and when I got to my hotel and switched on my phone, I realized I had 2 mails from my job developer:
1. He wanted to confirm if I was in-transit and I should let him know once I landed.
2. He wanted to know if he should forward my resume to a TD Bank recruiter.
I replied the mails in affirmative. See this guy o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The purpose of this post is to emphasis the importance of PRE-ARRIVAL programs. These programs are free and there for us to utilize. Please, let us try and take advantage of these programs.

Got a class to attend now. I promise to share this journey with you guys as it unfolds.
Have a great day all.

Congratulations to the latest soldier in North York! All the best ahead.

Hi, if you can get the reference letter stating you were paid in cash, you can add your bank statement showing deposit of some of the funds as the review officer will assume that you don't keep the cash salary in your mattress. So even if the periodic deposits will not equal the cash you receive, at least, it evidences something is periodically coming in. That is the same tactic employed by others who were working on cash basis and it worked for them. They also included tax clearance certificates per their income so if you have these, it helps your application to mention/include them.

Can a tourist visa be converted to permanent resident

No, you will have to apply separately for PR and pass through the Express Entry process, https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/works.html

Hi everyone. I just want to know how easy is it for a family of 3 to live in Canada without a car for the first year/beginning considering the rules of licence and not having a valid driver's licence from Nigeria

Hi, it depends on where you will be living. If you will be staying in a dense neighborhood, with fully developed public transit system like in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton etc, all you'll need is a Presto card which you load with funds and with which you can take buses, trams and trains across the GTA. where their transit systems are linked. Once you know the bus schedules, you can plan any outing you might have. With winter soon coming to an end, you wont have to combat the cold while waiting at bus stops and stations.

On the other hand, if you settle in a city/town or neighborhood that does not have a robust transit system, you may depend more on taxis/Uber in some areas to get around which could be pricy. I met a family last year with 2 young kids who landed and stayed with the PA's older brother for a while to settle in. The brother just moved into a nice, new house but on the outskirts of town where farmlands are being converted into residential estates so public transit does not yet get to that area. No public bus or train goes there yet, only those people who own cars can move around in that area and drive to downtown. The couple spent good money on taxis until they moved closer to mid-town and got a basement with a bus stop just down the street from them. With their move, they were able to cope better and reduce transport costs till they got a used car.

So if you're not getting a car for a while, your search for accommodation will have to consider getting a place in mid-town/mid-city so that you can take advantage of public transport access being close to you and keep costs down as transport costs can add up. If you're considering coming to the GTA, kids under certain ages ride for free here. All the best smiley

Please, how do you stop a bus when you are running to the bus stop but not yet there. Can you flag it down? I've missed my connecting bus because Google maps 4 mins walk is faster than my walk. I get there just as the bus is pulling away or not even stopping at all.

Hi, unfortunately because of strict SLAs that transit operators have, they wont stop for you once the doors are shut and/or they are in drive procedure to the next scheduled stop, operative word being 'scheduled'. Even if the bus is empty, the driver is obligated to stick to schedule/procedure or risk work demerits points on his record for stopping for you. The exceptions are trafiic incidents which they have to radio in to their base. Some busybody around who is not even on the bus may report him to his transit service for stopping outside schedule so, we learn to always arrive at the bus stop earlier than we need to be and retain some of our old Oshodi Oke bus jogging/hopping skills to catch up smiley

I have reference letter for them all, but the internal control and IT control are in the same company hence the same letter... does that mean I can use any of the NOC you mentioned ?

So far you have the reference letters in line with the duties stated in the NOC list as I earlier explained and have at least 1 year experience in the NOC, the choice is yours. All the best.

Good day e-fam

The below is by job title ( history)and responsibilities...for which i used NOC 1111, please confirm that this is appropriate....

i dont want CIC wahala

IT Control
September 2016 – Present

Internal Control Officer
September 2015 – September 2016

Funds Transfer Officer
Jul 2010 – Aug 2015

Hi, your applicable NOC for IT Control is 2171 where your equivalent job title would be System Auditor.

Your applicable NOC for Internal Control Officer is 1111.

For Funds Transfer Officer, you may consider either NOC 1114 or 1212.

All the above depends on you being able to provide reference letter(s) that specify you perform at least 80% of the responsibilities for each of those NOCS as specified in the NOC code especially the lead statement(s). Check them again and decide if you can provide the acceptable reference(s) accordingly. All the best, http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/NOC/SearchIndex.aspx?ver=16

Please I need clarity.

I have an Alberta health card obtained when we did a short landing in calgary in early 2016. Later that same year, I went back alone and had a baby. I returned to naija early 2017 and now we plan to return to Canada late 2018 but are seriously considering staying in OTTAWA.

QUESTIONS:
1. Can I switch my Alberta health card for the ontario healthcard and instantly get coverage?
2. Does it matter that I would have been out of calgary for over a year before moving to Ottawa?

Any info is highly appreciated.
Merci beaucoup!

Hi, to clarify the relevant info in the link provided to you above, please note that if you move to Ontario directly from another province like Alberta and apply for coverage, your health coverage will begin on the first day of the third month after establishing residence in Ontario, provided you were insured in your previous province or territory. Since you already have your Alberta health card, you will be eligible for coverage in Ontario exactly after two months after registering here. Please ensure you visit any Service Ontario location to register your presence in Ontario and start the count down. You will also get answers to any more health insurance questions you might have there.

Your valid health card from your former province will continue to provide you with health insurance coverage in accordance with that province/territory's plan during the waiting period.

@blackbuddy @salford1 @maternal @maziude @fusion23 @everybody who may have info cheesy

Please this nigerian passport renewal thing at Ottawa. So I've filled the form and made payment blah blah blah. The platform automatically scheduled an appointment date for me. I tried to reschedule on the site and it also rescheduled to another date it selected automatically. In other words, it does not give me the option of picking a date for my appointment on my own. Flight fares for those dates are not smiling. Any idea if it is possible to reschedule to a preferred date of my choosing? and if yes, how?
I intend to call the number provided on the website for the passport issuance section on Monday but would appreciate any info anyone has that could prove useful. Thanks.

Hi, I reached out to landed folks who have successfully renewed their passports at Ottawa and the general concensus is that nobody bothers with the appointment date at the embassy. Rather, they attend to people on the queue with no reference to appointment date or time. 2 people confirmed they got appointment online but went at different dates within the same week of their date and were attended to. One lady detailed her experience as follows, 'you don't need an appointment. In fact the online appointment isnt followed, it's first come first served so just get there early and you get a number as you come in. Only don't go on Mondays as passport applications are not done on Monday. Tuesday to Friday is ok as from 9am'. Hope this helps, cheers.

Guys, I'm in Mississauga. Where can I get flu shots for myself and the kids without health cards. This is urgent cos I've called various pharmacies and they keep asking for OHIP.
Hi, you need to present your health cards at these locations, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Food Basics Pharmacy, Loblaws Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy etc to receive free shots. For walk in clinics, you need an appointment and must present the health cards. The cards are your proof of eligibility for free health service in Ontario. With out the health cards, you'll have to pay out of pocket.

Hi everyone

Please I would like to find out, if I enroll for bridging programs, WOULD I GET PAID THROUGH OUT THE PERIOD OF THE PROGRAM even if it's for a duration of one year.

Kindly explain the dynamics of bridging programs (accounting / finance to be precise)

Thanks

Hi, it depends on which bridging program you sign on for and the way it is structured. Each bridging program is different and may provide you with an assessment of your education and skills, industrial or workplace experience, skills training or targeted academic training programs, preparation for a licence or certification examination and/or language training for your profession. You will not get paid with most bridging programs, they are mostly in-class trainings. For instance in Ontario, YOU PAY to participate in bridging programs though they are subsidised by the provincial government. Now a few bridging programs have a work placement feature where you get to gain real world experience at the end of the in-class portion. Some of the employers that your training provider partners with MAY offer some stipend for when you are in their organisation, some will not pay you anything. You are there to gain from the experience, the exposure. All bridging programs are not the same so it depends on the make up of the particular one you sign up for. You could also research internships where some of the employers whom you intern with could offer some pay. By researching the various bridging/intern programs available in your intended city/province and making enquiries, you'll get to know the full details of the various programs.

These 2 documents you mentioned, a copy of the receipt/sale agreement you issued to the new buyer and your bank statement showing deposit of the proceeds of the property sale are adequate. All the best ahead.

Hello Good People,

I got PUM today!!! And I wish to share my story as a testimony to God's glory and in the hopes that someone might be encouraged, inspired, and motivated. (This post may be a bit long. Sorry)

AOR was July 25, 2017

At first, my application was refused. And as I read the refusal letter with shivers down my spine, I figured the VO based his/her decision singularly on insufficient funds. I was beyond crestfallen. I could not even wish that on my enemy. It came on an afternoon and I thanked God I did not drive to work that day cos I would't know how I would have fared behind the wheels. More painful was the fact that the rejection/refusal came after 134 days of agonizing wait! I had been so expectant since I felt I had satisfied every requirement. Meanwhile, a spike in FOREX rates around early August 2017 had relegated my POF below the LICO by 330CAD. Can you imagine that?! undecided undecided

I bottled it up. Never opened my mouth to tell a soul. I did not want to share the heartbreak with my family and close friends who knew I was on this train. So I reached out to my e-friends on this platform, chief of whom are Blackbuddy, 40manlappy, and GlitteringStar for solace and advice. I felt the reason for refusal was flimsy -- they thought so too. I was going to appeal!

Big congratulations! What a way to enter the weekend, looking forward to your landing as the days ahead will be far greater in testimonies.

Please I have been reading about the importance of updating your resume as well as inputting some key words covering essential skills according to the job you are applying for? How do you go about this?

Hi, every job posting has key words/phrases in it directly related to the job to be performed. For instance, a job in AML - Anti Money Laundering would most certainly have the word 'STR' included in it. It stands for Suspicious Transaction Report(ing) which is a key task in the AML job role. For a Financial Service Rep, a key word or phrase is 'cross selling financial products'. It could be simple once one takes the time to DIGEST a job post and not just read it as most people are wont to do. So when you identify the key skills, words or phrases in a job posting, you need to incorporate those into your resume especially for your most recent job experience where it matters the most. This is especially important as a lot of organisations use resume screening bots or systems to review resumes before they get to the attention of a human reviewer. If your resume does not contain enough keywords from the job post and does not match the job description up to 80%, there's a good chance, it will never be selected for further consideration. My suggestion, take the time to review a job post, identify the key elements in it and incorporate them into your resume for each job you apply to. You've already decided that you are capable and can do the job and that's why you are applying so let your resume reflect this capability(ies).

Landing experience...

Landed on the 12th, came in via local arrivals because I was in America for a couple of weeks before landing. Before I knew it, i saw way out of Calgary airport without seeing Customs or Immigration. Turned back to go to Canada Border Services and the lady was surprised i passed through. I had to explain that I am coming from America and did not enter through International Arrivals. She took my passport/ COPR and came back in 2 mins with it stamped.

Was a bit irritated with the process sha because I did not hear anything like Welcome to Canada etc smiley but then again it was good because I did not have to queue up or wait my turn or answer any questions.

13th & 14th- Got my SIN, Opened bank account, Health card processed....They were all quite straightforward

Weather is manageable if you dress right.
