makano: I wouldn't exactly close the door on his hopes though his age is not on his side, points wise. He may be able to wangle a way in via a provincial nomination. His spouse as the primary applicant may also be a means by which they can pursue PR Try the CRS calculator to see where he/she stands on their own/how much points they could get via simulation, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp Then take a look at the websites of the different provinces to see which one has a sub program either of them could qualify for: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/provincial-nominees.html https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/provincial-nominees/eligibility.html 6 Likes 1 Share |

A555: Hi, there is no published phone number for the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, NS but you can try the Call Centre 1-888-242-2100 for those who are in Canada. Others outside can try contacting the Call Centre +1 613 944 4000 (for an agent: use options 1,2,1,2,1 ...then 0 to skip the recorded message) from outside Canada. I don't know if you fall under this category but for those who applied for PR more recently (EE/PNP) you can follow the following steps after landing to know the status of your PR card processing. Do note you only have 5 attempts in one day. 1) Login to CIC account. 2) Go to section "Link an existing application to this account". Click on "Link application to this account" button. 3) Select category as PR Card 4) Select "Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and Family Name" 5) Fill required details (please make sure of capital, small, comma etc.) 6) Provide landing date in "Date you became a permanent resident" 7) Click on 'search my application' after application searched, make sure you submit application else it not link Once you have successfully linked your application it will show you as "Submitted" status and once it is ready for dispatch it will go into "Approved" status. The steps above were copied from a post at canadavisa forum, hope it helps. 22 Likes 29 Shares |

tintedniggz: Hi, AirBnB is an online portal where people who have homes/space in their homes can place ads on the site for people who need a temporary place to stay. For instance, one landlord could have a 3 bedroom place but only using 2 rooms, so such a person could rent out the third room on a short term basis and share the facilities in the house. Another person could have a basement apartment available to rent out. Some people have multiple homes they own and want to rent out the homes on short term. So depending on your need and budget, you can check AirBnB to see if any one has accommodation available that you could rent. Where this works out for us new immigrants is that you can find a place that is already furnished where you can stay while you get all your landing formalities completed and then find accommodation for more longer term. Some people use AirBnB to find a place to stay for short landing and then return to Nigeria without having to sign any lease agreement. An increasing number of people also prefer AirBnB for when they vacation here so they can cook their own meals and enjoy more comfort and freedom than the formality of a hotel stay. There have been cases where landlords have established good rapport with some tenants and taken their homes off AirBnB to keep the tenant there so such tenant does not need to move again. Let your friend register on AirBnB and begin to review the choices available that could meet their short term need for a place to stay. It's a nice way to ease into the system here. Hope this answers your question. 20 Likes 2 Shares |

Hi, if you can get the reference letter stating you were paid in cash, you can add your bank statement showing deposit of some of the funds as the review officer will assume that you don't keep the cash salary in your mattress. So even if the periodic deposits will not equal the cash you receive, at least, it evidences something is periodically coming in. That is the same tactic employed by others who were working on cash basis and it worked for them. They also included tax clearance certificates per their income so if you have these, it helps your application to mention/include them. 1 Like 1 Share |

Awemo: Hi, it depends on where you will be living. If you will be staying in a dense neighborhood, with fully developed public transit system like in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton etc, all you'll need is a Presto card which you load with funds and with which you can take buses, trams and trains across the GTA. where their transit systems are linked. Once you know the bus schedules, you can plan any outing you might have. With winter soon coming to an end, you wont have to combat the cold while waiting at bus stops and stations. On the other hand, if you settle in a city/town or neighborhood that does not have a robust transit system, you may depend more on taxis/Uber in some areas to get around which could be pricy. I met a family last year with 2 young kids who landed and stayed with the PA's older brother for a while to settle in. The brother just moved into a nice, new house but on the outskirts of town where farmlands are being converted into residential estates so public transit does not yet get to that area. No public bus or train goes there yet, only those people who own cars can move around in that area and drive to downtown. The couple spent good money on taxis until they moved closer to mid-town and got a basement with a bus stop just down the street from them. With their move, they were able to cope better and reduce transport costs till they got a used car. So if you're not getting a car for a while, your search for accommodation will have to consider getting a place in mid-town/mid-city so that you can take advantage of public transport access being close to you and keep costs down as transport costs can add up. If you're considering coming to the GTA, kids under certain ages ride for free here. XX01: Hi, unfortunately because of strict SLAs that transit operators have, they wont stop for you once the doors are shut and/or they are in drive procedure to the next scheduled stop, operative word being 'scheduled'. Even if the bus is empty, the driver is obligated to stick to schedule/procedure or risk work demerits points on his record for stopping for you. The exceptions are trafiic incidents which they have to radio in to their base. Some busybody around who is not even on the bus may report him to his transit service for stopping outside schedule so, we learn to always arrive at the bus stop earlier than we need to be and retain some of our old Oshodi Oke bus jogging/hopping skills to catch up 17 Likes |

hayor2014: Hi, your applicable NOC for IT Control is 2171 where your equivalent job title would be System Auditor. Your applicable NOC for Internal Control Officer is 1111. For Funds Transfer Officer, you may consider either NOC 1114 or 1212. All the above depends on you being able to provide reference letter(s) that specify you perform at least 80% of the responsibilities for each of those NOCS as specified in the NOC code especially the lead statement(s). Check them again and decide if you can provide the acceptable reference(s) accordingly. All the best, http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/NOC/SearchIndex.aspx?ver=16 2 Likes 1 Share |

Blessedluvdfavd: Hi, to clarify the relevant info in the link provided to you above, please note that if you move to Ontario directly from another province like Alberta and apply for coverage, your health coverage will begin on the first day of the third month after establishing residence in Ontario, provided you were insured in your previous province or territory. Since you already have your Alberta health card, you will be eligible for coverage in Ontario exactly after two months after registering here. Please ensure you visit any Service Ontario location to register your presence in Ontario and start the count down. You will also get answers to any more health insurance questions you might have there. Your valid health card from your former province will continue to provide you with health insurance coverage in accordance with that province/territory's plan during the waiting period. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

vcole: Hi, I reached out to landed folks who have successfully renewed their passports at Ottawa and the general concensus is that nobody bothers with the appointment date at the embassy. Rather, they attend to people on the queue with no reference to appointment date or time. 2 people confirmed they got appointment online but went at different dates within the same week of their date and were attended to. One lady detailed her experience as follows, 'you don't need an appointment. In fact the online appointment isnt followed, it's first come first served so just get there early and you get a number as you come in. Only don't go on Mondays as passport applications are not done on Monday. Tuesday to Friday is ok as from 9am'. Hope this helps, cheers. 14 Likes 4 Shares |

XX01:Hi, you need to present your health cards at these locations, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Food Basics Pharmacy, Loblaws Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy etc to receive free shots. For walk in clinics, you need an appointment and must present the health cards. The cards are your proof of eligibility for free health service in Ontario. With out the health cards, you'll have to pay out of pocket. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

follyzee: Hi, it depends on which bridging program you sign on for and the way it is structured. Each bridging program is different and may provide you with an assessment of your education and skills, industrial or workplace experience, skills training or targeted academic training programs, preparation for a licence or certification examination and/or language training for your profession. You will not get paid with most bridging programs, they are mostly in-class trainings. For instance in Ontario, YOU PAY to participate in bridging programs though they are subsidised by the provincial government. Now a few bridging programs have a work placement feature where you get to gain real world experience at the end of the in-class portion. Some of the employers that your training provider partners with MAY offer some stipend for when you are in their organisation, some will not pay you anything. You are there to gain from the experience, the exposure. All bridging programs are not the same so it depends on the make up of the particular one you sign up for. You could also research internships where some of the employers whom you intern with could offer some pay. By researching the various bridging/intern programs available in your intended city/province and making enquiries, you'll get to know the full details of the various programs. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

kazchick: Hi, every job posting has key words/phrases in it directly related to the job to be performed. For instance, a job in AML - Anti Money Laundering would most certainly have the word 'STR' included in it. It stands for Suspicious Transaction Report(ing) which is a key task in the AML job role. For a Financial Service Rep, a key word or phrase is 'cross selling financial products'. It could be simple once one takes the time to DIGEST a job post and not just read it as most people are wont to do. So when you identify the key skills, words or phrases in a job posting, you need to incorporate those into your resume especially for your most recent job experience where it matters the most. This is especially important as a lot of organisations use resume screening bots or systems to review resumes before they get to the attention of a human reviewer. If your resume does not contain enough keywords from the job post and does not match the job description up to 80%, there's a good chance, it will never be selected for further consideration. My suggestion, take the time to review a job post, identify the key elements in it and incorporate them into your resume for each job you apply to. You've already decided that you are capable and can do the job and that's why you are applying so let your resume reflect this capability(ies). 27 Likes 8 Shares |
