PoliticsRe: 15-year-old Naija Girl Is Harvard/ivy-bound by blackis(m): 12:25am On May 07, 2011
It feels real good to read about things as refreshing as what this young mind has achieved.
I congratulate her and her parents and hope that they will continue to give her the support
she needs to sustain her brilliance and up her intelligence.

At times like this, I spare a thought for our young ones in Nigerian public primary, secondary
and tertiary institutions!! embarassed
PoliticsRe: A 16 Year Old's Solution To Nigeria's Electoral Problems by blackis(m): 9:59pm On Apr 26, 2011
@ crudedude

Inventions are products of ideas!! And they are made better through thorough scrutiny, tests, modifications etc. The developed societies have found what works for them but are still working on strengthening their institutions every other day. As we post, deliberations are ongoing in the UK to vote on a referendum about 'tweaking' their voting pattern to embrace alternative voting (AV). All these, however started with an idea in the first place!!

@ogagusps3

That you engage your mind in a manner as you spelt out in this thread is most commendable!! And to think that you are sixteen like you mentioned also is a great relief to me. Why? People may ask. The answer is simple. Just take a look around you and you'll find a bunch of people who 'wish' Nigeria were this great or that developed but who would NEVER engage their minds towards solving a simple problem!! The so called great societies and economies we do often refer to are products of painstaking thoughts brought to fruition through endless hours of trials, corrections, failures, modifications, executions, re-modifications etc etc. So to find a young soul applying the thought process as it were in respect of INEC and our battered electoral process in this age of sagging and bling fills my heart with great joy. Indeed, there is hope for the black race!!

Keep doing what you are doing young man for it shall take you far in life.
PoliticsRe: Are You Listening To Jega? by blackis(m): 12:26am On Apr 22, 2011
My brothers and sisters, we are all Nigerians and we know we can be a complex bunch at that! Prof Jega has done what he could do with the available resources, within the available time and within a 'playing field' littered with corrupt politicians!! I doubt if he could have done much really!

This isn't the best elections that we could have conducted given our potentials but it may not be as bad as politicians want us to believe. One thing that the registration, accreditation and voting process has done is to create a verifiable string of activities that can be scientifically proven should one have any reason to doubt its outcome. The painful aspect about pursuing this process of reclaiming ones mandate however is that it can take 'forever' and worse still there is no criminal prosecution for people who steal other people's mandate.

If there is a law mandating the criminal prosecution of these guys and the recovery of looted funds, then one less channel for thieving politicians!!

I really would love to hear what these guys have to say was their reason for the riots!! huh

My brother, you are not alone!! I bet you are wiser now with the array of information and experiences that has been shared here by every1. It maybe difficult for relations in 9ja to relate to stuffs like the payment of your several bills e.g council tax, energy, water, rent, landline & internet, cell phone bills etc. Unlike in 9ja where you maybe able to delay/defer some of these payments or better still make payments in bits, this is hardly the case in the West where most payments are done by direct debit or on standing order! So where you aren't earning a reasonable wage, you very well will be surviving just to pay bills!! Whereas the guy in 9ja can afford to earn just enough to stay alive and not live in fear of not having enough in his account for the next dd or what the content of the mail he just received is.

So my brother, if you can afford to help family, friend or anyone for that matter in genuine need please don't hold back. But where you can't, just let them know in a simple and clear manner that you really wished you could. Saying 'NO' is an art and I believe an honest one for that matter will give you peace of mind. Good luck to you!

PoliticsRe: Election Guesses Per State by blackis(m): 12:19am On Apr 04, 2011
From all the postulations as presented by NL users, it is obvious that the PDP controls majority of the states. Sadly, the opposition parties to the best of my knowledge has not agreed on any modus operandi yet as it concerns 'ejecting' the PDP from the Nation's highest office. Lets not forget that democracy is a game of strategy and numbers and that as it is presently constituted, the odds is in favour of the PDP!! However, if the opposition could possibly push their party's individual agenda for the guber polls, national assembly polls, state assembly polls etc and present a united front in respect of winning the Presidency, then we could see an eventual overthrow of the PDP from Aso Rock.
PoliticsRe: Don’t Blackmail CPC And General Buhari - CPC Response To Bluelabs Limited by blackis(m): 1:03am On Apr 02, 2011
It is quite interesting the level of engagement that this topic has generated and countless others too for that matter on NL and how passionate people can be when expressing their opinions. However, I am hopeful that a day is coming where the freedom of expression that we enjoy as Nigerians using the available social media platforms would be used to promote intelligent discourse and exchange such that contributions would not be made passively as is the case often times but thoroughly researched facts 'thrown up' for the education and objective critique of NL users.

As for the case in question, I believe youtube would've suspended the use of the said material on its platform if contacted with adequate proof of ownership by the material owners and if they (the material owners) can show that the continued broadcast of the said material placed by a youtube user in the form, manner, length and for the purpose blah blah blah infringes on their right as the copyright owners and therefore violates one or two or maybe three or more copyright/intellectual property laws.

This is my submission sha ooh! Whether this was done, we never know oh!!  grin

And by the way, I think the CPC representative would have done a great job in its response by toning down its rhetoric a little bit no matter how hard Bluelabs may have come hitting! Its called 'word management'.

TV/MoviesRe: Lion Heart: The Kanu Story (Kanu Nwanko's Movie) by blackis(m): 3:42pm On Apr 13, 2010
This isn't going to be a flick per se, it looks like its going to be a documentary on
the guys rise from playing "free" street soccer to "paid" big time football!! grin

Kanu appears humble, has a wonderful rags to riches story and is a great player.
Isn't he Nigeria's most decorated player? Has a lovely family, is an easily likeable fellow
and he has a BIG, COMPASSIONATE heart!!

A lot of things are going for this guy and I have loads of respect for him.

RomanceRe: Can Long Distance Relationships Really Work Out? by blackis(m): 2:28pm On Nov 17, 2009
The survival of LDR's depend mostly on the individuals involved. You'll both have to be true to yourselves
and talk about whether or not to maintain one. Iam currently in one and have been since 2007!! She's in
England and Iam in Nigeria and we're getting married next month. Now, it has its own peculiar challenges
but like in every other relationship type, open and sincere communication remains key. I can't remember a
day passing that we didnt speak with each other and we further reduce our phone bills when we make
internet calls. We argue, quarell, disagree, smile, laugh and share loads of stuff together even the pain
of loneliness. Yet, we keep encouraging each other on because it can be fun if you chose to make it fun.

However, insecurity can get the better part of you and make you lose your mind when you start wondering
how on earth it is possible for her to stay 'all this while' without getting 'serviced' if you know what i mean grin grin

Bottom line - it is possible! Wish you the best!!

Yes i have. And one particular experience comes to mind when i was job hunting after NYSC. And to think that all the banks, telecom coys, Oil coys etc that i submitted my "age doctored Cv" didn't give me a single call goes to show it isn't right!! However, I got a call from the very one i used my correct age and the rest as they say is history.
This happened in 2006!!! grin
