A middle-aged man, simply identified as Olabiyi, died on Thursday afternoon after being electrocuted by a high tension cable at Mangoro area of Lagos. Witnesses said the victim was waiting in front of a filling station on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to catch a bus to Ikeja when a high tension cable across the busy road snapped, swung dangerously to where he sat and circled his left leg. Olabiyi, a native of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was on his way to Isheri on an official assignment. He was said to be sitting on the marble enclosure around the signpost of the filling station when a commotion ensued, as bystanders fled from the swinging stray cable. According to an eyewitness, Segun Ademola, “The deceased was not the only person at the bus-stop when the incident occurred. There were about seven other Ikeja-bound passengers waiting by the filling station at the time. A man, who was sitting beside the deceased, escaped with minor injuries while he (Biyi) died on the spot.” Seeing that his left leg had caught fire, the eyewitnesses said staff of the filling station immediately rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers, with which they managed to save the corpse from being engulfed. His co-resident at No.31, Babaponmile Street, Mangoro, Abdullahi Musa, described the late Biyi as a humble, diligent and hardworking young man. He said that shortly before his death, Olabiyi gave N1,000 to another co-resident. Our correspondents learnt that some officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria had worked on some electricity cables running across the road about an hour before the incident. After they left, a container-laden truck on its way from Ikeja tore one of the cables, which flew across the road before hitting Olabiyi.
A detachment of policemen from Dopemu division of the Lagos State Police Command was deployed on the scene to control traffic and onlookers. For over two hours, no PHCN official was seen in the area. Some bystanders said they ran to the power utility’s offices nearby to report the incident but found them locked. When contacted at about 4.40pm, the Public Affairs Manager of the PHCN, Ikeja Distribution Zone, Mr. Pekun Adeyanju, said he was not aware of the incident. He said a report should be made to the Akowonjo Business Unit, which controls electricity supply to Mangoro and its environs. He, however, promised to brief the relevant business unit. As the police were about to remove the corpse at 5.03p.m. in a Ranger Ford pickup van registered as NPF 9526B, some PHCN officials appeared at the scene and rolled the stray cable to a safe distance. An unidentified man, who described himself as the late Olabiyi’s brother, wailed nearby. Speaking as he was restrained by policemen from rushing to where the corpse lay, he said he spoke with the deceased on the telephone shortly before the incident. http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2009041617554829

Politics › Re: When Will Nigeria Be Better? by blacksta(m): 3:56pm On Apr 15, 2009 |
deb: It can never be better in the eyes of so many Nigerians because you all get what you want from the country. Everything you think and imagine is what you get. People are building houses everyday, buying new cars yet some others are not experiencing any of these things because of their mind set.
The day a whole lot of us change our mindset then our lives will change for good and we will begin to realize that the country is actually getting better. If you can think, you will know how to appreciate changes occurring but if you remain a critic you will never see anything good happening.
So, to a whole lot of you Nigerians it can never be better even if our music industry is getting better, the roads are getting cleaner, you have a considerably stable shaky but gradually stabilizing democracy, more enterprises emerging everyday, booming telecoms, better banking industry and salary jobs getting juicier by the day and a whole lot more changes occuring like having a Governor like Babatunde Fashola, more people being able to afford to buy new cars unlike before bla bla bla. It still cannot be better in your eyes Like the recent Rebranding Jamboree by Prof Dora |

Iretia: Jaco Maritz (a South African Journalist) recently asked Ireti Ajala a question:
', how does MapNTL.com differ from other sites such as Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps which also offer a similar service? "There are other companies who offer online mapping services but what makes MapNTL.com unique is that we know Nigeria like the back of our hands," says Ireti Ajala. "Lagos has over 400 000 streets but Yahoo and Google maps shows Lagos with only five roads. Those companies are world giants; they have millions of users in North America, Europe and possibly in other African countries like South Africa, but when it comes to Nigeria MapNTL.com is the local champion."

Becomrrich: How do you think. You have a problem. Here is it. I told you a dream , you should ask what does the dream mean.
It means aiye have hand in it. That what i am trying to get out to you. That night I prayed for yar adua, when i had the dream. Look you people claim you have prophet and men of God in Nigeria, do not some people claim GOD is speaking to them in Nigeria. Can any of this men of GOD not pray for Yar Adua. Even yar adua even use style to beg this people and so that they can have mercy on him. Yorubas would say, he tried to talk with his eyes. o fi oju so oro.
Have their God stop answering them. Is there God dead This is how I know that most people in Nigeria who claim to be men of God are fraud. Even those who claim GOD is speaking to them. Now. I have been born again from the age of 13. They claim that God is speaking to them that yar adua should not let the yorubas, bendle and bayelsa to go.
This Yar adua case is in the bible. and all the people who claim they are prophet of God could not have solution. Why If they are men of God like now like elijah did to all of the prophet of baal. I am saying they should all pray for yar adua to be heal.
To show that they are not prophet of God. I am going to give them from now to when Yar adua remove the Yoruba, bendle and bayelsa into the republic of benin , May be they may find solution to yar adua problem, if they cant not find solution to yar adua health problem, they would agree they are all false men of God, Let them beginning to pray , I hope thier god(money ) is not aslept. And I hope it as not travel, or will they need to buy him airplane ticket, or is their God on vacation??
Now if they all can not find a solution to yar adua problem and yar adua have agree to remove the yorubas, bendle and bayelsa into the republic of benin and all paper is signed and seals. , They should all gather either in Nigeria and call my phone number 416 904 5008, My name is musiwa. I want to share to them who the real God is and what he is about and what he is not about(money)
Read what elijah said and I would call on the real God .
1 Kings 18
Elijah on Mount Carmel 16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 When he saw Elijah, he said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?" 18 "I have not made trouble for Israel," Elijah replied. "But you and your father's family have. You have abandoned the LORD's commands and have followed the Baals. 19 Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel's table."
20 So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. 21 Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing.
22 Then Elijah said to them, "I am the only one of the LORD's prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let them choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire—he is God." Then all the people said, "What you say is good."
25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire." 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. "O Baal, answer us!" they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made. What has Light got to with darkness. Receive your deliverance right now in Jesus Name. |
