The first thing Nigeria has to do is re orientate the police by providing a reasonable accomodation, schooling for their children, reasonable pay rise, more training, better welfare package and better police facilties until that happens we just have to live with this corrupt practise.

ibedun: pres-elect. Haba!!
What happened here cannot be blamed on poverty but greed and stupidity. I live in Ejigbo and we are surrounded by pipelines and the government have launched vigorous campaign over the last few years talking about the dangers of this very incident and that people should refrain from this dangerous act. In my view the government has really done its jobs. The campaign used all mediums in all our local languages, radio, bulletins, signboards - name it.
I grew up in the extreme poverty of Nigeria but I can categorically tell you this - POVERTY IS A CHOICE. But people make that choice over time. I have accomplished some of the things I set out to achieve.
Those poor adults you refer to chose to be poor - they often dont know it but if you analyse their lives thoroughly you will see the path they have taken enroute to poverty. The people who died on this and other occasions are nothing but idiots and we should have no sympathy for them.
You can eat and prosper anywhere in this world. It depends solely on the individual. We have a ready made universal excuse - Bad government!!!! Give me a break!!! GBAM |

all these people jumping on the bandwagon of poverty. Poverty this , poverty that. Have you heard of the story of a boy who was born into abject poverty but decided enough was enough. You dont have to stupid or poor to know petrol is high flamable. how many examples of pipeline explosion have we had in Nigeria. |

osisi, this is a result of ignorance. ignorance is the #I concomittant of poverty. crude ignorance, but the bad thing is poverty has a way of building a vicious cycle, now those 6 kids are born in abject poverty(not their fault) they grow(if child mortality allows them to grow) the parents send them out in the streets to hawk(to get some cash) the girls get early exposure------>sex/pregnancy/disease/etc . . . the boys------->gangsters, political thugs etc . . . . more premarital sex-------->more unplanned pregnacies . . . another generation of poverty stricken household in the making . .etc
yes, some people fall into poverty by mere stupidity, but most are victims of circumstances. e.g, this ur cousin's case, let me assume her parents gave her all she could have, and let me also assume the efulefu boy had great parents too who gave him a chance at life, and both lost their chances . . . we now have a family of 8, 2 of them(the parents) were stupid but 6(the kids) are a product of circumstances
this proves me right that most people in poverty are just victims of their circumstances. try escaping poverty in this day and age of recession. You have proved what i said earlier . Poverty is a choice and you can either chose to accept the status quo or fight it. Even in the hashest of conditions one can still prosper. |
Politics › Re: Foreign Ministry Faults Uk, Us Visa Policies by blacksta(m): 10:19pm On Apr 21, 2009 |
who gives the right to any foreign embassy to humilate Nigerians. The Fact of matter Nigeria is a major contributor of foreign exchange to these so called economies especially the U.K and U.s. A typical students contributes an average of almost £25000 to this white ungrateful people. All we demand is little respect. I am very happy that the minister is looking into this shambles we call visa application system in Nigeria.
You are told to bring this and that at the end of the day you are refused visa and on top of that they rob salt onto one's injury and they also keep your application fee. Freaking daylight robbery. You are never treated like rubbish outside of Nigeria. I have been to the French and U.s embassy in the U.k to my surprise everything went so smoothly even when i forget to book travel ticket i was simply told to go and book the ticket and come back to collect my visa without paying another application fee. Do you think that would ever happened in Nigeria |

ElRazur:

Can you not see how ignorant you are? You really are a foolish person with such response. Do you know the etiquette of debating on a forum? I lost all respect for someone like you as you carry on making a fool of yourself and being an slowpoke.
You claimed to have lived in the UK, are you really sure about this? Your mentality will suggest you probably hang with "awon omo oni le" somewhere in Ojuwoye market.
I dont see how your logic or post even adds up. You asked for a response, you got one and now you revert to talking .b.ul.l.Poo.
Who is more ignorant? You or RichyBlack?
I dont know if you think you make a case with your post, but a lot of people here see you for what you are. An idiotic person. I mean, what kind of response is your post? Only a fool will make one like that.
What more do you have? What more can you do apart from talking shhiiiitt and showing the forum how idiotic you are? Go on surprise me. ELRazur You will soon learn not to waste your time with this guy. His Brain is very far from his Ideology |

pres-elect: akinlabi,
extreme poverty can blunt common sense. extreme poverty can convert a virgin to a prostitute. it can convert a graduate to a tout. converts a doctor to a foreign toilet cleaner. converts a pastor to a thief, it can break families and damage marriages
i tell you this b/c i have seen extreme poverty in nigeria. i saw it first hand. it is easy to say common sense should prevail, but believe me, there has to be an inner strenght to do so. i was lucky and determined, but i refuse to see my achievement as due to hadwork alone, i believe my God played a huge role in my progress, but i also refuse to disparage those less fortunate.
poverty is no joke. the problem with nigerians is that they take their rage to wrong directions/actions. but what i feel for them is pity. sad pity. I beg to differ . do you agree that is Poverty is a choice? |

Lax75: Guys, if only you could take a trip to Nigeria. My brother just got back from Naij like 3 days ago and he went to Abeokuta to do his to avoid the lagos congestion. He got his within a day w/out no interviews, police report or all that mess. Ofcourse he paid 30K naira but that was for the whole package including "settlement." He was able to make a good contact with an immigration officer there and he showed me his passport. The new electronic passport which I might add is quite impressive. If you try getting it here in the States they will just give you all sorts of run around.
Cool Why hell does one have to settle to get a useless passport. 30k is on the high side. I understand they have two prices for passport issue 1. 10k - offical rate which takes days or months ( because they have to send it to abuja) 2. 15k - unoffical rate - which you get by 4pm that day ( it must be dhl taking to abuja and back) Nothing works in that country |

I did this to three women yesterday on my way to Ikorodu to get my additional 25 Ltrs. This is very postive but unfortunately alot of Nigerians are opportunist with bad intentions u never hear of armed robbery or one chance. |
