Crime / Cultist Killed One In Ilorinn by blacktoy(m): 9:05pm On Mar 27, 2016
[b][/Cultists kill one in Ilorin
March 27, 2016
Written by:
Biola Azeez - Ilorin

GUNMEN suspected to be members of a cult group have reportedly shot one person dead in Ilorin on Sunday.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the victim of the attack, who was identified simply as Wasiu was killed around Ikokoro/Sakamo area of Ilorin around 3:10pm.

Wasiu, who allegedly belonged to a rival cult group and said to be in his 30s, according to sources, had hitherto fled the area to avoid being killed but returned recently.

The gunmen numbering about four were said to have arrived the area in a commando style and shot the victim at a close range.

An eyewitness said the armed men shot the deceased in the face.

There was anxiety at the scene of the incident as residents and passersby scampered for safety.

It was learnt that the sporadic shooting rented the air forcing motorists and motorcycles plying the area to detour and take escape route.

"It was like a theatre scene when the gunmen arrived. They started shooting that everybody around had to runaway. We didn't know what happened; we only discovered that the style of operation of the gunmen appeared like they are cultists.

"Before now, we have been observing Wasiu (the victim) because his action too was suspicious. He might be a cult member that is why he was away for some time now before yesterday's incident," a source said.

It was learnt that the remains of the victim were evacuated from the scene by a relative before the arrival of a detachment from the state police command.

It was gathered that armed policemen from Division C arrived the scene and inquired from neighbours accounts of the incident.

The spokesman of the state police command, Okasanmi Ajayi, promised to get back when contacted to confirm the incident.

Top 8 Senators who’ll miss National Assembly election
March 29, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

The seventh Senate which began May 29, 2011 is gradually coming to a close. The outgoing National Assembly — the Senate and the House of Representatives — has been widely criticised over its dismal performance.

The Senate has yet to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill, or any other significant bill. It has also swept important investigations under the carpet.

The election for a new set of lawmakers holds Saturday. Perhaps, indicative of the Senate’s scorecard, less than half (only 53) of its 109 members will have a chance of returning as they take part in the poll, having won their parties’ nominations.

Fifty six senators lost out, meaning the earliest they can return to the Senate is 2019. In some states, all three senators lost out. Examples are Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Adamawa and Kebbi.

Having 53 incumbent senators in Saturday’s election also implies that a fewer number will likely return for a fresh term.

In all, these are some of the biggest names that will not feature in Saturday’s election:

Victor Ndoma-Egba (Cross River Central): Mr. Ndoma-Egba is the senate leader. He has been in the senate since 2003. He lost the PDP ticket to Owan Enoh, the current chairman, House of Representatives Appropriations committee.

Ita Enang: The eloquent senate chairman on rules and business, Ita Enang, will not be returning to the senate after losing his ticket to Bassey Albert, a former commissioner of finance in Akwa Ibom State. Mr. Enang, a member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, represents Akwa Ibom North East senatorial district.

Esther Nenadi Usman: Mrs. Usman represents Kaduna South. The former finance minister lost her bid to secure the PDP ticket, to a prominent business mogul, Danjuma Laah. Mr. Laah had 129 votes while Mrs. Usman scored 123.

Uche Chukwumerije: The PDP representative of Abia North Senatorial District has been a senator since 2003. The current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education lost his seat to a House of Representatives member, Mao Ohuabunwa.

Ayogu Eze: The representative of Enugu North senatorial district is a member of the People’s Democratic Party. Mr. Eze vied for the PDP governorship ticket and lost to a House of Representatives member.

Helen Esuene: Mrs. Esuene, a former Environment Minister, represents Akwa-Ibom south senatorial district. She lost the PDP ticket to Nelson Effiong, a former speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.

Odion Ugbesia: Mr. Ugbesia represents Edo central. He is best known as the sponsor of the anti-gay bill. He lost his party nomination to the chairman of Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, Clifford Ordia.

Heineken Lokpobiri: He was elected into the senate in 2007 to represent Bayelsa West constituency on the PDP platform. He lost to former Chairman of the Bayelsa State Scholarship Board, Foster Ogola.

To be sure, some of the senators will not come back because they ditched their positions for gubernatorial tickets.

Five senators picked gubernatorial tickets on the platforms of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively.

They are Atiku Bagudu(Kebbi, APC), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta, PDP), Aisha Alhassan (Taraba, APC), Pwajok Gyang (Plateau, PDP), Bindow Jibrilla (Adamawa, APC) and Benedict Ayade (Cross River).

Other Senators who lost their parties’ tickets include Ehigie Uzamere (Edo South), Odion Ugbesia (Central), Odunsi Babalola Akin (Ogun West), Victor Lar (Plateau South), Wilson Ake (Rivers West), Umar Dahiru (Sokoto South), Maccido Muhammad (Sokoto North), and Aisha Hassan (Taraba North), will also not return.
Politics / Fayose Stop Insulting Our Family by blacktoy(m): 10:15am On Mar 23, 2015
Fayose embarrassing our family, says brother

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose’s eldest brother, Segun, has appealed to the governor to stop embarrassing the family.

He said their father was a gentle pastor, who built and sustained a good name for the family, before joining his ancestors.

The elder Fayose spoke with our reporters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He said rather than sustain the good name which he inherited, the governor has been embarrassing other Fayoses with the way he insults elders  like former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Segun Fayose
Segun, who is a United Kingdom-based accountant, said the family cherished the name it inherited from its late patriarch.

Emphasising that their father died with contentment, the elder Fayose said the family was known in Ekiti for sound character found in every omoluabi.

He described Chief Obasanjo as Ayo Fayose’s benefactor.

Segun said: “It is a pity Nigerians are celebrating criminals. I am angry with Nigerians for electing somebody like Ayodele as governor. My children cannot come to Nigeria because of the terrible situation of our country.

“I don’t have a relationship with any of our leaders because of their criminality and anybody who says I collected money from  the opposition should step forward to challenge me. Ekiti and Nigeria are bigger than Fayose’s name and both names should be protected.

“I don’t want anything from anybody, but Ayo should stop insulting and abusing my father’s name. As a result of Fayose’s attitude, many people believe the Fayose family is rude but it is far from the truth.

“I have spoken to him many times, but he refused to listen. Buhari and Obasanjo are old enough to be his father and I don’t know why he should be insulting them.

“I am always sad with the situation of this country. Ayo’s arrogance is one of the reasons I said people should not vote for him prior to the Ekiti governorship election. If all I am saying is not true, my six children should die and I should end up in shame.

“Most of us abroad are not happy with the situation of Nigeria. We are sad. When people call me from Ekiti to complain about Ayo, I tell them to forgive the family. People should not see Ayo as an ambassador of our family.”
