Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar killed in Gaza after Israel airstrikes – 7 months after his brother also eliminated

The Israeli Prime Minister said on Wednesday that one of the terror group's most wanted figures and younger brother of infamous Yahya Sinwar had been killed.

Netanyahu told parliament while reading a list of Hamas leaders killed in Israeli blitzes: "We eliminated Mohammad Sinwar."

It comes after reports that the chief, who was also one of the October 7 masterminds, had likely been killed in an Israeli airstrike on May 13.

Israel appears to have successfully eliminated Sinwar Jr by bombing what it said was Hamas' command centre under the European Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip.

The IDF is believed to have used bunker-busting bombs to target the underground complex.

Hamas said at least 40 people had been injured in the attack.

It reportedly targeted the exits of the subterranean compound with the aim of preventing the escape of any survivors.

Defence Minister Israel Katz reportedly revealed earlier this month that the body of Mohammad Sinwar had been discovered in a tunnel in Khan Younis.

Sinwar took command from his older brother Yahya Sinwar, the main architect of the October 7 attacks, after the boss was killed by the IDF in October 2024.

While speaking to parliament, Netanyahu said: "We eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists, Mohammad Deif, Hassan Nasrallah, Yahya Sinwar, Mohammad Sinwar, and seized the Rafah and Morag crossings.

"In the last two days, we've been executing a dramatic plan toward the complete defeat of Hamas.

Israel targets Hamas leader ‘The Shadow’ in strike on HQ after he took command from his slain brother ‘Gaza’s Bin Laden’

He added: "We're taking control of their food distribution and money machine. This is what destroys their governing capabilities.

"That's what we promised."

According to the Wall Street Journal, Israeli minister Israel Katz told a closed-door parliamentary meeting on May 18 that Sinwar was dead "beyond all indications".

Now that the terror leader's death has been confirmed, it leaves a power vacuum at the head of Hamas.

Experts fear a power struggle between its military and political wings.

Sinwar took command of Hamas' military wing after Mohammad Deif was killed last July and later took over the entire terror group after his brother was killed.

He was believed to have been behind the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006 - which eventually led to the release of his brother in a prisoner swap.

He was also named by experts as Hamas's most senior commander in Gaza alongside Izz al-Din Haddad.

According to Israeli officials, Izz al-Din Haddad and Sinwar hold the most influence when it comes to the negotiating the release of the hostages.

There are 58 remaining Israeli hostages being held by Hamas, around 21 of which are believed to still be alive.

Who was Muhammad Sinwar?

Mohammad Sinwar was the leader of the Hamas terror group in Gaza that continues to hold Israeli hostages.

He was believed to be around 50 years old and has been operating largely behind the scenes, earning him the nickname "The Shadow".

Like his older brother, he joined Hamas at an early age and was considered close to the head of the group's armed wing, Mohammed Deif.

Mohammad was also believed to have been behind the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2006 which eventually led to the release of his brother in a prisoner swap.

He was named by political analysts as Hamas's most senior commander in Gaza alongside Izz al-Din Haddad - and according to Israeli officials they have the final say in the ongoing hostage negotiations.

The older Sinwar was dubbed Gaza's Osama bin Laden after he carved out a bloody reputation for killing his enemies with his bare hands.

It comes after harrowing footage showed the moment thousands of Gazans overran a US and Israel-backed aid site just hours after it opened.

Citizens desperate for food are said to have broken through the fences of the compound to reach the humanitarian aid, with shots reportedly fired.

The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) said the sheer number of people seeking aid at its distribution site was so great, its team had to pull back so people could "take aid safely and dissipate".

PoliticsProposed Lagos-Abidjan Highway Corridor To Cost $15 Billion-ADB by BlackViper(op): 11:43am On May 28, 2025
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has confirmed plans to invest $15 billion into the long-anticipated Lagos-Abidjan Highway Corridor, an infrastructure project expected to boost regional trade and mobility across five West African nations.

The announcement was made during the formal opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group, held in Abidjan.

In a keynote address by Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, the President of the AfDB Group emphasised the strategic importance of the corridor and its potential to transform West Africa’s economic landscape.

He also expressed gratitude as he bowed out of the AfDB presidency: "As I complete my two five-year terms as President of the African Development Bank, I am proud of the legacy we are leaving behind for my successor, for the Bank, and for Africa," he stated.

"The Bank supported the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex in Morocco, which was the world’s largest concentrated solar power plant at the time of its completion."

"We launched the Lagos to Abidjan highway corridor for which the African Development Bank is supporting the feasibility studies, and we have mobilised $15billion in investment interests," Adesina stated.

"In Nigeria, we are implementing the development of special agro-industrial processing zones in 8 States and the FCT and have mobilized $2.9 billion to support the establishment of these zones in 28 more States of Nigeria."

He added: "We have stood by countries that were under sanctions to clear their debt arrears to the Bank, including Somalia and Sudan."

"Over the 10-year period under my presidency, the African Development Bank would have provided a total of $102 billion in support to Africa. This represents 46% of all the financing of the Bank since its establishment in 1964."

"The African Development Bank financed over $55 billion in support of infrastructure, from roads, rails, airports, seaports, digital and communications, health, water and sanitation."

Stretching approximately 1028 kilometers, the Lagos-Abidjan Highway Corridor will traverse Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, connecting major urban and economic hubs along the West African coast. Once completed, the highway is expected to catalyse commerce across the ECOWAS region, reduce travel times, lower logistics costs, and enhance regional integration in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals.

Dr. Adesina’s announcement came as he reflected on a decade of leadership at the helm of the AfDB, during which the Bank delivered $102billion in support to African nations — representing nearly half of the institution’s total financing since its founding in 1964.

"We accelerated regional integration with massive support for infrastructure to support the African Continental Free Trade Area," Adesina noted, highlighting the Bank’s investments in railways, roads, ports, and energy systems across the continent.

Among the major transport corridors supported by the AfDB are:

"The Addis Ababa–Nairobi–Mombasa corridor, which reduced travel time from three days to one.

"Tanzania’s $3.2 billion standard gauge railway project."

"The Senegambia Bridge linking Senegal and The Gambia, which slashed travel time from two days to under ten minutes."

Adesina pointed to tangible improvements in the lives of over 565 million Africans due to the Bank’s interventions in energy access, health, sanitation, ICT, food security, and infrastructure. The AfDB’s infrastructure investments alone totalled over $55 billion in the past ten years.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the host country of the 2025 Annual Meetings, the Bank’s financial support grew by 500% over the last decade, contributing to flagship projects like the Henri Konan Bédié Bridge and the iconic 4th Bridge in Abidjan.

Dr. Adesina also acknowledged strong support from African leaders, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, for approving the $500 million replenishment of the Nigeria Trust Fund for another 15 years.

As his presidency nears its conclusion, Dr. Adesina reaffirmed his commitment to the continent:

"I am extremely proud of the work we have done and the incredible impact the Bank has had on the daily lives of millions of Africans... I will continue to serve Africa today and well into the future by God’s grace."

The African Development Bank also launched a $750 million hybrid capital offering on the global capital market in 2024, becoming the first multilateral financial institution in the world to do so and opening up a new asset class for investors globally.

He further noted: "The African Development Bank spearheaded (together with the Inter-American Development Bank) the framework to allow the re-channeling of the IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to multilateral development banks, which we can leverage by 4–8 times to provide much-needed concessional financing at scale."

"As my mandate as President of the Bank draws to a close, I am extremely proud of the work we have done and the incredible impact the Bank has had on the daily lives of millions of Africans. This has been a collaborative effort that we can all take great pride in."

PoliticsWife Of Ex-Army Chief Faruk Yahaya Detains Soldier Over Missing $50,000 by BlackViper(op): 5:44pm On May 27, 2025
Nigerian Army Keeps Mum As Wife Of Ex-Chief Faruk Yahaya Detains Soldier For Weeks Over 'Missing $50,000'

The Nigerian Army has kept a disturbing silence over the illegal detention and alleged torture of a young female soldier, Amina Sani Maidoki, who has been locked away for over six weeks on the orders of Salamatu Faruk Yahaya, wife of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya (retd).

The 25-year-old soldier, who served as an aide-de-camp (ADC) to Mrs. Yahaya, was accused of stealing $50,000 from the ex-army chief’s residence in Abuja and has since been held incommunicado, without trial, access to legal representation, or any formal charge.

Despite growing outrage, the Nigerian Army has continued to look the other way.

When SaharaReporters contacted the army spokesperson, Lt Col Onyinyechi Anele, earlier this month, she claimed ignorance of the matter and promised to investigate.

Since then, she has neither responded to further inquiries nor issued any official comment.

Family members now say they are facing threats and harassment for demanding justice.

A family source added: “They stop everybody from visiting her. No trial even in the military way. The woman is just doing it unofficially.”

“She is still under illegal detention,
” a relative told SaharaReporters.

“Her brother was there a few weeks ago because he was invited by them. They asked him to bring his bank statements and they saw nothing implicating there.”

“They invited him because they thought he helped Amina to steal the money, but they saw nothing to that effect.”

“But now, they’ve told us not to come again. The family has stopped visiting her entirely because of threats from the Nigerian Army,” the source added.

The situation has sparked fears of an orchestrated effort to scapegoat Amina for a crime no court has heard, no police authority has investigated, and for which no evidence has been made public.

A SaharaReporters' investigation had previously exposed how the young sergeant was summarily arrested from her duty post on April 3, 2025, and taken straight into custody on the orders of Mrs. Yahaya.

Sources said she was first detained at the former army chief’s residence before being moved to the guardroom at General Yakubu Gowon Barracks, Abuja.

“She was taken from their house straight into detention and later moved to a military facility where they torture her every day to force a confession,” a family member said.

“They’ve seized her belongings and insisted she must repay the money before she’s released.”

SaharaReporters also learnt that Salamatu Yahaya had warned soldiers around her not to allow the issue to "get to social media."

But as pressure mounts and hopes for justice dwindle, Amina’s relatives say they have been left with no choice but to speak out.

“Our daughter is being abused, her rights violated, and no one is saying anything,” a source close to the family said. “Even if they think she stole the money, why not charge her to court? Why torture her and hold her like a criminal without any proof?”

SaharaReporters saw that the army has neither issued a formal statement on the matter nor launched any transparent investigation.

Instead, it appears to be shielding the former first lady of the barracks, while a low-ranking female soldier bears the brunt of unlawful detention and cruel treatment.

Efforts by the family to seek legal redress have also hit a brick wall as they have been denied access to Amina and kept in the dark about her condition.

You're right about Yoruba Muslims, although I think that in their case, they weren’t always like this.

In the past (in the 1960s, 70s, 80s etc) Yoruba Muslims didn't mix religion with politics. Even when MKO Abiola ran for the presidency in 1993 with Babagana Kingibe as his running mate, only a few people were worried about the implications of having a Muslim-Muslim presidency because everyone knew the kind of man Abiola was and they knew that he wasn't a religious fanatic.

But that is no longer the case. In the 1990s, people like MURIC would have been laughed out of the Yoruba political space, but now, not only are they accommodated, they are obeyed.

Like I said in my earlier post, the only man who understood what to do with Northern Nigeria was the late Gideon Orkar and with everyday that has passed since they murdered him, his prophecy about what will happen to Nigeria if the North was not thrown out of Nigeria, has continued to come true.

Zooposki:
He should have included South West Muslims too. South West Muslims and Fulani/Hausa Muslims should be in one country. I'm also tempted to include Biafrans too.

South West muslims and Fulani/Hausa Muslims in one country. What a glorious country it will be.

Boko Haram means "education is a sin"

I have always said that Boko Haram already existed in Northern Nigeria as a core part of Northern Nigerian identity, long before it was weaponised and became a military insurgency.

Everything this man has said is true, but greedy Southern and Middle Belt politicians have betrayed their people in pursuance of their own selfish interests.

Gideon Orkar was the only man who truly understood how to get Nigeria to work.
PoliticsRe: Since I Left Naija, I’ve Seen What Real Governance Looks Like by BlackViper: 11:00am On May 27, 2025
So you're the new Bobo Chicago?

steeltrust:
Let me share my experience since I moved to America. Over here, every tier of government—local, state, and federal—has its own responsibilities and functions independently. This system makes development reach the grassroots effortlessly. But back home in Nigeria, everything is tied to either the state or federal government, leaving local councils powerless and ineffective. No wonder governors and politicians are more powerful than institutions like EFCC and ICPC.

Take Chicago, for example. The local government here handles its own revenue collection, builds and maintains roads, runs hospitals, and creates a business-friendly environment that generates jobs. You’ll never see the governor of Illinois coming to Chicago to inaugurate a local road or hospital project because each level of government knows its role and delivers without interference. Even law enforcement is decentralized—Chicago has its own police department, and Cook County (similar to our local councils in Nigeria) has its own sheriff’s department. Crime is tackled effectively because responsibilities are clear.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, soldiers patrol highways harassing civilians, while the police are either underfunded or compromised. Here, soldiers don’t even engage in civil matters—in fact, they respect the police more than the other way around. The system works because accountability is enforced. Break a traffic rule? Your license gets suspended. Do it again? You might never drive again. And if driving is your livelihood, well, you better find another job. The law doesn’t play favorites.

Back in Warri, I remember a church buying two acres of land just to build a massive auditorium while 99% of the community had no functional companies to provide jobs. Graduates end up driving keke or doing POS business because there are no real opportunities. Yet, when a governor builds a single road, people start shouting, "Our governor is working!" My brother, is it road we will eat?

Our politicians are wicked—plain and simple. They travel abroad, see how things work, and yet refuse to implement the same systems back home. Instead, they keep us divided with politics, religion, and tribalism while looting everything in sight. Meanwhile, we spend our time on social media complaining instead of taking action. We’re too sentimental, too forgiving, and too quick to celebrate mediocrity.

In 2025, Nigeria is still struggling with basic electricity, good roads, and functioning hospitals while the rest of the world is advancing in AI and technology. When will we wake up? When will we demand real accountability? These politicians are destroying the future of the next generation, and if we don’t act now, things will only get worse.

It’s time to stop the noise and start holding people accountable. The system over here isn’t perfect, but at least it works because the laws are enforced. When will Nigeria learn?

PoliticsEXCLUSIVE: Ebonyi Governor Awards N3.1billion Contracts To Wife’s Brother by BlackViper(op): 6:22pm On May 26, 2025
An investigation by SaharaReporters has uncovered that Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, awarded contracts worth N3.1 billion to his brother-in-law, Nwode Chidi Henry, through a company registered a little over two years ago.

The company, HC Carter Ventures Ltd, was incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission on April 25, 2023, just a month before the end of the previous administration in Ebonyi State.

Between July 2024 and May 2025, the newly registered firm secured three separate contracts totalling over N3 billion from the state government.

One of the contracts, awarded on July 25, 2024, was valued at N400 million and involved the construction of a two-kilometre stretch of road from Ngamgbo Elom Note to Onu UIO Akpu Junction in the Mkpoke community, Ikwo Local Government Area.

On October 7, 2024, HC Carter Ventures was awarded a contract valued at N172 million for the construction of a 12-classroom storey building at Community Secondary School, Ojiegbe Nkaliki.

Further records reveal that on May 6, 2025, the company received another contract worth N2.541 billion for the construction of a 5,000-meter concrete rigid pavement (Phase 2) along the TTC–Iboko Road in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Altogether, the three contracts awarded to HC Carter Ventures within two years of its registration total N3.113 billion.

A SaharaReporters review of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) database shows that the person with significant control of the company is Nwode Chidi Henry, whose listed address is located within government quarters in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Further investigation using network analysis confirms that Nwode is the younger brother of Ebonyi State First Lady, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru.

On February 23, Mary-Maudline celebrated Nwode’s birthday in a post on her Instagram page, which has 6,139 followers. In her message, she described him as her "kid brother," writing: “Cheers to a fantastic year ahead. Best wishes from your big sister and lots of love from my family.”

In a Facebook post published in December 2024, the lawmaker representing Ebonyi North East constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chinyere Nwogbaga, stated that she attended the wedding ceremony of “Mr. Henry Chidi Nwode — younger brother to Her Excellency, wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State.”

Further examination of records from the Ebonyi State Open Contracting Portal reveals that two of the three contracts awarded to Mr. Nwode’s company, HC Carter Ventures Ltd, were executed through a non-competitive process, with the company listed as the sole bidder. These two contracts were collectively valued at N572 million.

Only the third contract, awarded at a much higher sum of N2.541 billion, reportedly involved two additional contenders.

This process raises questions of compliance, as Section 21 of the Ebonyi State Public Procurement Law (2020) mandates that contracts be awarded through open competitive bidding "in a manner which is transparent, timely and equitable for ensuring accountability."

It further states that contracts should be awarded in a manner that promotes "competition, economy and efficiency."

SaharaReporters also conducted a digital footprint analysis of HC Carter Ventures but found no trace of the company online. The firm has no known website, and similar names found during the search were linked to entities registered in foreign countries.

Searches on major social media platforms — including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram — also returned no results associated with the company.

At the time of filing this report, HC Carter Ventures was listed as inactive on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) portal.

When contacted for comments, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information, Jude Okpor, told SaharaReporters there was nothing improper about awarding contracts to the First Lady’s younger brother.

"There is nothing wrong with the younger brother of the first lady getting contracts; he is a citizen of Nigeria. Ebonyi has been given a clean bill of health by reputable organisations for its procurement methods," he told SaharaReporters.

He further argued that the processes of awarding contracts deployed by the state are transparent.

"We do e-procurement and it is transparent," he said.

Foreign AffairsShoved In The Face: Emmanuel Macron & His Wife, Brigitte (New Video) by BlackViper(op): 2:45pm On May 26, 2025

French President Emmanuel Macron was shoved in the face by his wife as the pair touched down for a state visit in Vietnam, with a source close to the leader admitting the pair had a “squabble.”

Shocking footage of the incident shows the president’s plane door opening to reveal Macron at the entrance in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, on Sunday evening.

Suddenly, his wife Brigitte’s arms emerge from the left of the open doorway as she places both hands on her husband’s face and shoves him firmly.

Macron appears startled — but quickly recovers when realizing he is in view, and turns to smile and wave through the open door.

The French first lady remains concealed inside the aircraft, making it impossible to see her facial expression or body language.

Brigitte then doesn’t take her husband’s proffered arm as they walk down the staircase, where Vietnamese officials greet them.

Macron’s office initially denied the authenticity of the footage before confirming it was genuine.

The incident was later dismissed as a harmless “squabble” by a close associate of the president, cited anonymously by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

“It was a moment when the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by joking around,” another source told AFP.

“It’s a moment of togetherness. No more was needed to feed the mills of the conspiracy theorists,” the source added, accusing pro-Russian disinformation accounts for spinning the clip.

Brigitte Macron, 72, has been married to her husband, 47, since 2007.

The couple met in 1993 when she was a 39-year-old high school teacher and the future French head of state was her 15-year-old student and a classmate of her daughter.

Macron touched down in the former French colony of Vietnam for the start of his week-long tour of Southeast Asia.

He is expected to pitch France as a reliable alternative to the United States and China.

Other stops on the tour include Indonesia and Singapore.

PoliticsUS Court Jails Nigerian For $1m Scam by BlackViper(op): 11:58am On May 23, 2025
A United States District Court has sentenced a 37-year-old Nigerian, Henry Ezeonyido, to 27 months imprisonment for his role in a $1m insurance fraud.

PUNCH Metro learnt in a statement by the US Department of Justice on Thursday that Ezeonyido perpetrated the fraud between October 2019 and February 2022.

The statement noted that during the period mentioned above, Ezeonyido submitted fraudulent health insurance claims to five insurance companies, claiming that he was involved in a series of accidents while travelling abroad.

The convict was also said to have filed similar fraudulent claims for seven other people, leading to a total of over $1m in claims.

The statement read, “Ezeonyido was arrested and charged in July 2024 along with co-conspirators Brendon Ashe, Aqiyla Atherton, Darline Cobbler and Ariel Lambert. Ezeonyido was later indicted by a federal grand jury in September 2024. All four of Ezeonyido’s co-defendants pleaded guilty to their roles in the scheme and were subsequently sentenced to probation.

“From approximately October 2019 to February 2022, Ezeonyido submitted fraudulent health insurance claims – on his behalf and on behalf of at least seven other individuals, including Ashe, Atherton, Cobbler and Lambert – to five different health insurance companies for expensive medical treatment that they purportedly received and paid for out-of-pocket while travelling overseas.

“Many of the claims included fake traumatic injuries such as stabbings, gunshot wounds, and hit-and-run car accidents that the defendants and others purportedly suffered, requiring their hospitalisation abroad. In nearly all instances, the individuals were actually in the United States at the time of the purported international medical events.”

Ezeonyido reportedly fabricated medical records to show the medical care received, fabricated bank records to show payment to the international treatment facilities, and, where the claim related to a fake traumatic injury, fabricated police reports describing the circumstances of the alleged event.

Following the claims, the insurance companies paid approximately $655,313 in claims to the affected individuals, some of whom were said to have paid kickbacks to Ezeonyido for helping them facilitate the claims.

It continued, “As a result of these fraudulent claims, the victim’s health insurance companies were billed over $1m for services that were never provided, resulting in payments totalling approximately $655,313.

“Upon receiving these payments from their health insurance companies, Ashe, Cobbler, Lambert, and others paid a portion of the proceeds to Ezeonyido and other co-conspirators, including Atherton, who acted as an intermediary, bringing others into the scheme in exchange for a cut of their paid claims. In total, Ezeonyido retained approximately $396,998 in fraud proceeds.”

Following his arraignment before US District Judge Leo Sorokin, the defendant pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment.

“In February 2025, Ezeonyido pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and six counts of health care fraud.

“Ezeonyido, 37, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin to 27 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

“Ezeonyido was also ordered to pay $655,313 in restitution and to forfeit $396,998 in criminal proceeds,” the statement concluded.

I suspect that the fear of a backlash caused the Zamfara State government to panic and stage a huge cover up.

I blame the saharareporters journalist for not scanning copies of court documents relating to the case and uploading them on social media. That would have made it harder for them to lie about the case as they are doing now.
PoliticsINEC Approves Creation Of AI Department To Check False Narratives by BlackViper(op): 7:17pm On May 22, 2025
Ahead of the 2027 polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the creation of an Artificial Intelligence Division under its ICT Department to continue to harness the positive aspects of AI and mitigate its negative impact on elections.

This initiative, INEC said, has placed it in the forefront of institutionalising AI capabilities within its ICT infrastructure.

A statement issued by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the approval was given at its weekly meeting in Abuja where the increasing relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to elections and electoral activities in Nigeria and across the world was considered.

According to him, the creation of AI Department is also an important step in the ongoing reform of the electoral process of the commission in areas that only require its administrative action.

The statement, titled “Creation of a Division on Artificial Intelligence by the Commission”, reads: “The Commission held its regular weekly meeting today, Thursday May 22 2025. Among other issues, the meeting considered the increasing relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to elections and electoral activities in Nigeria and across the world.

Recently, the commission attended several conferences with colleagues around the continent on the impact of AI on elections. These interactions were not only motivated by the concern over the use of AI to spread fake news or manipulate content online but also to utilise its benefits for data-driven decision-making, risk detection and mitigation, deepening voter services automation and geo-spatial intelligence in support of logistic optimisation for better material distribution and polling unit allocation.

“Consequently, the commission approved the creation of an Artificial Intelligence Division under the ICT Department to continue to harness the positive aspects of AI and mitigate its negative impact on elections.

“The Division will enable the commission to better coordinate and maximise existing technology investments through centralised AI governance. It will also enhance decision-making through data-driven insights, risk management and voter engagement.

“Furthermore, it will strengthen electoral credibility through predictive analytics, automation and intelligent safeguards. This initiative puts the commission in the forefront of institutionalising AI capabilities within our ICT infrastructure. It is also an important step in our ongoing reform of the electoral process in areas that only require administrative action by the commission.”

Crime“I Killed Final-year Student, Yetunde Lawal For Ritual” — Kwara Cleric Confesses by BlackViper(op): 5:03pm On May 21, 2025
Abdulrahman Bello, an Islamic cleric and the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student, shocked the courtroom on Wednesday as he openly confessed to killing the young woman to harvest her for a money ritual.

Bello, who is standing trial alongside others accomplices, made the confession in a video recording tendered as evidence at the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin.

However, in the video, he admitted to committing the act alone and stated that he would not have killed Hafsoh if he had access to human body parts through other means.

The chilling testimony formed part of the ongoing trial presided over by Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi.

The court also heard from Inspector Ayodele Azeez of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who detailed the police investigation and recovery of disturbing exhibits from Bello’s residence.

“On February 14, 2025, a case of murder and rape was transferred from Oja-Oba Police Division to the State CID,” Azeez testified.

"The first defendant, Abdulrahman Bello of Olunlade, was found in possession of an axe, cutlass, charms, a table, consultation book, blood-filled container, a pair of slippers, and the severed hands of the victim.”

According to the officer, Bello voluntarily gave his statement in the presence of a lawyer, Barrister A.O. Ahmed, who was provided by the police after Bello said he couldn’t afford one.

The statement was both handwritten and recorded on video, later transferred to a compact disk and submitted as evidence.

The defence counsel, Barrister Agbede, objected to the admissibility of the disk, claiming Bello was coerced, but Justice Ajayi ruled the evidence admissible and ordered the video to be played in court.

Inspector Azeez also testified that the police tracked and arrested Bello’s known associates using his call records, which revealed regular contact with the other defendants before and on the day of the murder.

“All five suspects are connected,” Azeez stated.
“The second defendant is Bello’s teacher, the third is the teacher’s student, while the third and fifth defendants are close friends of the first defendant.”

The court was adjourned for recess at exactly 11:32am, with proceedings expected to continue later in the day.

I'm beginning to understand why so many opposition politicians are japa-ing to APC.

If they talk, they will jeopardise funding for the japa-ing politicians. So why won't they remain silent?

Or do you people think our politicians are japa-ing to APC because they love APC?

PRESIDENCY HAS REMAINED SILENT

Foreign AffairsTanzania Shuts Down X After Hackers Falsely Announce President's Death by BlackViper(op): 12:57pm On May 21, 2025
Tanzanians were blocked from social media platform X on Wednesday after a police account was hacked and used to falsely announce the president’s death, internet watchdog NetBlocks said.

The social media shutdown comes amid the disappearance of activists Boniface Mwangi of Kenya and Agather Atuhaire of Uganda following their arrest by Tanzanian police earlier this week.

They were in the country to attend the trial of opposition leader Tundu Lissu who is accused of treason ahead of elections in October.

On Wednesday, Tanzanians were unable to access X unless using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), an AFP correspondent said.

“Live metrics show X (formerly Twitter) has become unreachable on major internet providers in #Tanzania; the incident comes as a compromised police account posts claims the President has died, angering the country’s leadership,” NetBlocks said in a statement late Tuesday.

Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Jerry William Silaa confirmed the hack in parliament, adding that the YouTube account of the country’s tax authority was also infiltrated.

“The reason these accounts were compromised is that their security protocols were not sufficiently robust. These accounts have since been restored,” Silaa said.

Police said they were hunting “the criminals who created and distributed the information” and warned the public against sharing the false messages.
