Raul Asencio's Official Response OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY RAÚL ASENCIO
Following the clarification issued today by the head of the Investigating Court nº 3 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana – in which the indictment is rectified initially dictated, expressly excluding me from both the recording of videos of sexual content as of the facts that were the subject of such recording – and before the public dissemination of information related to said procedure, I wish to state the following:
1. I have not participated in any behavior that threatens sexual freedom of any woman, and much less of minors. This is confirmed by the decision issued by the aforementioned Court, which does not attribute to me having maintained sexual relations with the two women involved, nor having recorded them, with or without your consent. Likewise, the court order clarifies that I was not the one who sent third parties no image or video of intimate content, which, I reiterate, were recorded in a different place from the one I was in.
2. The judicial order, as far as I am concerned, limits its content to the eventual momentary viewing of some images by a third party, without attributing to me any participation in its recording or in its dissemination.
3. The accusation made against me, as expressly stated by the court’s decision is strictly provisional. Therefore, it should follow the presumption of innocence prevails. In the event that they are finally formulated charges and an oral trial is opened, I will continue to exercise my defense before the Courts and Courts, in which I maintain full confidence, reaffirming my alienation from any criminal conduct. All this, without prejudice to the utmost respect that I deserves the development of the judicial procedure as a whole, also in what refer to the other people investigated.
4. I want to reiterate, once again, my absolute respect for the rights to freedom and the privacy of all women.

Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio could face trial over alleged sharing of explicit video.
The Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio and three former youth players at the club could face trial in connection with the alleged filming and distribution of a sexual video that has left two women, one of them a minor, with symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
In a statement released on Wednesday, a judge on Gran Canaria said he had concluded his preliminary investigation into the recording and distribution of the incident, which is alleged to have taken place in a private area of a beach club on the island on 15 June 2023.
The judge added that a summary criminal case had been prepared and the file given to prosecutors “regarding the four footballers allegedly implicated in the filming and distribution of videos of a sexual nature involving a female minor and another young woman”.
He noted that the alleged victims – who were 16 and 18 at the time – “are currently suffering post-traumatic symptoms as a result of the experience they have been through”.
The judge said the alleged offences included “sharing secrets without consent and violating privacy, distributing and sending videos to third parties without the consent of the women involved, the use of minors for pornographic purposes, and possession of child pornography”.
The court statement did not identify the men allegedly involved – nor explain which player is accused of which offence – but they have been identified in Spanish media as Asencio and his former colleagues Andrés García, Ferrán Ruiz and Juan Rodríguez.
In September 2023, three unnamed Real Madrid reserve players were arrested in connection with the incident and were released after the data on their mobile phones was seized.
According to Spanish media reports the main suspect, whose identity is unknown, recorded a consensual sexual encounter with the young girl, which he then sent to the other players without her consent.
Police said the case had followed a complaint filed by the mother of a 16-year-old girl in the Canary Islands regarding an alleged recording of sexual relations.
They added that while the girl maintained the relations were consensual, the recording had been made without her consent and that she had recently become aware of it.
Real Madrid issued a statement at the time saying that a total of four youth team players had been questioned by police “in connection with a complaint about an alleged release of a private video via WhatsApp” messaging system. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/may/15/real-madrid-raul-asencio-could-face-trial-over-alleged-sharing-of-explicit-video

Politics › Top 10 Highest Paying Countries For Doctor's Salaries by BlackViper(op): 5:02pm On May 15, 2025 |
As obtained from careeraddict.com In many parts of the globe, there’s a considerable shortage of doctors and nurses, weighing on the already stretched healthcare systems, be it in North America or Europe. It turns out people are training to pursue a career as a pilot, working in the lucrative coding field or (gasp!) becoming lawyers. This has raised alarm bells among public policymakers attempting to avert a medical care crisis.
One prescription for this escalating problem is raising the typical doctor's salary, potentially incentivising doctors to remain working in their profession or encouraging young people to become physicians.
Whether it’s in the Netherlands or in many advanced parts of the world, it’s incredible to see how much doctors — both specialists and non-specialists alike — can earn on a monthly basis.
So, where are these top salaries for doctors? We have compiled a list of the top 10 countries with the highest salaries for doctors, courtesy of data compiled by Lenstore.
10. Denmark Average annual salary: £89,330 ($119,130)
Denmark, like the other Scandinavian nations, has an excellent healthcare system, both in terms of primary and specialty care, with a huge emphasis on prevention and healthy living, and has a significant demand for primary care doctors. But over the years, the nation has been experiencing a shortage in primary care primarily because of doctors retiring.
Denmark requires all practising physicians to be licensed, and jobs are first given to Danes and doctors from the European Union. That said, one requirement for the job is the ability to speak Danish, thus limiting the number of foreign applicants. If you meet the licensing criteria, the country offers an excellent quality of life, coupled with good retirement benefits.
9. Italy Average annual salary: £94,052 ($125,416)
Italy, with its population of 60 million, has had difficulties in its healthcare system for many decades. The country is very diverse geographically, with people spread all over, and delivery of healthcare is not equal. Excellent healthcare is available for those living in inner cities and large towns, but those living in rural areas only have access to primary care physicians.
The healthcare infrastructure is not as developed as other European nations, and it also suffers from a shortage of physicians at all levels of healthcare. Patients continually face long delays in seeing specialists. Unlike other nations, Italy has been reluctant to allow foreign doctors to practise in the country; even those from the EU need to speak Italian as a requirement for medical practice.
Junior doctors have to work in the public health system before they can enter private practice.
8. Japan Average annual salary: £104,878 ($139,836)
Japan has traditionally been a closed nation to many professions, including medicine. However, it has a well-established healthcare system that rivals the best in the world. Even rural areas offer state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments that are available in major cities. Japan has a rapidly aging population, and many of its doctors are on the verge of retirement.
So far, Japan has not recruited foreign doctors because one requirement for practising medicine is the ability to speak Japanese. In addition, Japan has no shortage of specialists but lacks primary care physicians.
Unlike most other nations, Japanese doctors work very long hours, and their lifestyle is poor. Burnout in the system is common. Even though the government has introduced reforms to promote healthy working hours, this has led to an increase in overtime to meet patient demands. Women physicians particularly do not fare well in the Japanese system because they have to work long hours and, consequently, have no time to balance a family.
7. France Average annual salary: £105,910 ($141,212)
France has an excellent healthcare system that meets the demands of its 68 million citizens. The country is huge, but the quality of healthcare is excellent, which results to doctors being the highest paid job in France. The nation also offers an excellent lifestyle for doctors, significant professional autonomy in the practice of medicine, and many job opportunities. Whether one works as a physician in private practice or a hospital, the working conditions are good.
However, France has a shortage of primary care doctors. Besides accepting doctors from other European nations, it also accepts doctors from many French-speaking nations from Africa. Most hospitals also provide extra language courses for doctors from outside France. North Americans are usually not permitted to work in France, except for fellowships.
6. Iceland Average annual salary: £116,532 ($155,375)
Iceland is a tiny nation with only 340,000 people. It has a decent healthcare system and doesn’t have any shortage of doctors to cater to existing demands. In order to work as a doctor in Iceland, candidates must be able to speak Icelandic but, fortunately, most of the population is bilingual or trilingual.
Though salaries for doctors are generous in Iceland, it is one of the most expensive countries in the world.
5. Norway Average annual salary: £123,042 ($164,057)
Norway, like Denmark, has a solid healthcare system. But doctor burnout is not uncommon in Norway, mainly because of the long working hours. Patients generally have no complaints about the healthcare system, because it is as good as the top centres in Europe. Norway needs primary care workers in rural areas, but job opportunities are limited to those who speak Norwegian or are from the EU.
4. The Netherlands Average annual salary: £123,116 ($164,155)
The Netherlands has an excellent healthcare system that rivals some of the top countries in the world. The country has solid labour laws that protect healthcare workers from long hours and prolonged overtime. The system also provides healthcare workers with many benefits, including paid parental leave, paid sick leave, at least 40 days of vacation a year, and mental health support to prevent burnout. Doctors can work in private or public healthcare.
3. Finland Average annual salary: £144,704 ($192,939)
Finland is a small nation, and its healthcare system is financed by tax revenues. While the healthcare system is excellent in the cities, it diminishes for citizens in rural areas. There’s a great emphasis on preventive medicine. Doctors who speak Finnish are preferred, and foreign-trained doctors outside the EU have difficulty entering the system.
2. Belgium Average annual salary: £151,599 ($202,131)
Belgium, like most European nations, has an excellent healthcare system. Belgium is a small country, and the deficiencies are limited to primary care. Citizens of Belgium and the EU are given preferences in the medical profession.
1. United States Average annual salary: £153,476 ($204,634)
The US is one of the most attractive countries to practise medicine. Not only does it accept foreign-trained doctors from any part of the world, but it also offers high salaries for all physicians and grants them citizenship.
The US has no shortage of specialists, and there are also ample opportunities in rural areas for people who want to practise primary care, pathology or psychiatry. While the US has advanced healthcare, it’s not evenly distributed among the population. Doctors are at liberty to work for the government or in private practice. https://www.careeraddict.com/top-5-countries-with-the-highest-paid-salaries-for-doctors

Politics › Alleged Fraud: Ganduje, Wife To Face Prosecution As Court Rejects Application by BlackViper(op): 7:15pm On May 13, 2025 |
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano High Court has assumed jurisdiction to hear the alleged misappropriation of public funds filed against the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
In an amended 11-count charges instituted by the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, against the former Kano State Governor, Wife, Dr. Hafsat Umar; Son, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, and five others, the defendants are accused of bribery, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds running into billions of naira.
Ganduje, along with seven other defendants, moved an application for a preliminary objection to challenge the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter.
Other defendants are Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
When the matter came for ruling on pending motions on Tuesday, Justice Aliyu dismissed Ganduje’s preliminary objection, describing it as incompetent to stall the hearing.
[/b]Citing relevant provisions on point of law, Justice Aliyu held that charges filed by the prosecution on May 13, 2024, against the defendants are competent for trial.
[b]The court subsequently posited that powers to investigate criminal matters do not rest solely in the hands of the police, and affirmed the right of the state Anti-Corruption agency to equally carry out investigations on criminal issues.
The presiding Judge also dismissed similar applications filed by the seven defendants that challenged her jurisdiction to sit on the matter.
Subsequently, the court summoned the defendants to appear on the next adjourned date for a hearing; however, it added that the trial would proceed even in the absence of Ganduje and seven others. The case was adjourned to July 30 and July 31, 2025, for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Adeola Adedipe, SAN, hinted at the notice of reply to the preliminary objections to all the respondents and urged the court to dismiss the respondents’ applications for lack of merit.
In a counter argument, Barr. Lydia Oluwakemi Oyewo, counsel to Ganduje, wife, and son, Lydia Oluwakemi Oyewo, objected to the position of the prosecution. She urged the court to quash all charges against the defendants.
In the amended criminal charges, the Complainant said “Kano state Government on your (Ganduje) instruction and approval asked one of the receivers of USSD 120,000 from a beneficiary of a contract awarded by Kano state government, contrary to and punishable under section 22 of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission law 2008, (as amended) law no. 2 of 2009.
“That on February 10, 2017, Abdullahi Ganduje dishonestly and/or corruptly to your advantage collected a kick-back of the sum of USSD 213,000 being money generated from people and entities seeking or holding the execution of Kano state government contract or project for the remoulding of Kantin-Kwari textile market as a bribe through one of the contractors.” https://guardian.ng/news/alleged-fraud-ganduje-wife-to-face-prosecution-as-court-rejects-application/

Sports › Taiwo Awoniyi Urgently Rushed To Hospital by BlackViper(op): 11:49pm On May 12, 2025 |
Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been taken to hospital to undergo urgent abdominal surgery, it has been reported.
Awoniyi picked up an injury during Forest's 2-2 draw at home to Leicester which was marred by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis' furious on-pitch meltdown at manager Nuno Espirito Santo just after full time.
Awoniyi nastily collided with a goal post as he battled Leicester's Facundo Buonanotte for the ball
It left him in a heap and the injury is much worse than first thought
The Nigeria international received treatment during the closing stages of the match but made his way back onto the pitch as Forest searched for a winner.
Awoniyi, who came on in the 84th minute, completed the game despite looking in huge discomfort and Sky Sports reports that his injury is much worse than initially thought.
The report adds that Awoiniyi was taken to hospital on Monday evening for urgent abdominal surgery after complications were discovered by club medical staff.
Marinakis revealed after the game that the decision not to substitute Awoniyi was the reason for his outrage.
"Today is a day for celebration because after 30 years Nottingham Forest is guaranteed to be competing on the European stage once again, a promise I made to our supporters when we achieved promotion!" Marinakis said in a statement.
"With two more games to go in the Premier League, we must keep believing and keep dreaming, right to the final kick of the game.
"We are extremely proud of and close to Nuno and the team, and we must celebrate the historic achievements of this season.
"Everybody - coaching staff, players, supporters and including myself - we were frustrated around the injury of Taiwo and the medical staff's misjudgement on Taiwo's ability to continue the game.
"This is natural, this is a demonstration of the passion we feel for our club."
Forest's draw to their already relegated rivals secured European football at the City Ground for the first time in 29 years.
Marinakis berated Nuno at full time on the pitch in front of the cameras
Awoniyi was sent back on by the club's medical staff, completing the game having come on on 83 minutes
However, it's viewed as a disappointing result because it leaves them in seventh spot and thus with an outside chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
The two-time European champions, who only earned promotion back to the Premier League in 2022, spent much of the season in the Champions League box seat.
However, a run of just one win in six league outings has seen Forest slip out of the Champions League spots.
With two league matches remaining, Forest are a point behind Chelsea, who occupy the final Champions League spot as they lie fifth in the Premier League table.
Marinakis' outburst sparked huge outrage, with new footage also showing him kick a bucket in anger after he berated Nuno.
The Greek businessman's actions left Manchester United legend Gary Neville raging as he urged Nuno to resign from his post as manager.
Neville said: "Scandalous from that Forest owner. Nuno should go and negotiate his exit tonight with him! The Forest fans, players and manager do not deserve that."
Although Nuno laughed off any suggestion that he'd heed Neville's advice, as he responded: "It is because of the owner and his passion that we are growing as a club.
"He pushes us. He wants us to be better.
"It is his passion and desire to be a big club - 30,000 people felt the same today. For sure, many of them would go on the pitch and shake us down.
"Us as a club, we owe a lot to the Marinakis family.
"I am not going to comment too much. I have huge respect for Gary Neville, he is the coach who replaced me when I was sacked at Valencia. So he was a coach himself.
New footage show what Nottingham Forest owner did immediately after Nuno row
"He knows what it is like to be on the touchline. All the rest, please allow me…I do not want to proceed about (talk of) the future."
Asked whether he was comfortable being spoken to in such a way in a public arena, Nuno added: "I have been in football so many years as a player and as a coach.
"It is the passion and desire. The players feel it, we feel it and the fans feel it. We have to do better."
Forest's next outing sees them travel to West Ham on Sunday before they face Chelsea at the City Ground on the final day. https://talksport.com/football/3199888/nottingham-forest-evangelos-marinakis-taiwo-awoniyi-urgent-surgery/

Foreign Affairs › Burkina Faso Army Accused Of Killing Hundreds Of Fulanis by BlackViper(op): 8:00pm On May 12, 2025 |
The Burkina Faso military, in coordination with pro-government militias, carried out a campaign of mass killings targeting ethnic Fulani civilians in the country’s western Boucle du Mouhoun region, according to a damning new report released by Human Rights Watch (HRW). The alleged atrocities took place during March 2025, with the number of civilian deaths exceeding 130 and possibly reaching hundreds. The violence, which HRW said was spearheaded by the Burkinabè special forces as part of "Operation Green Whirlwind 2" (Operation Tourbillon Vert 2), occurred around Solenzo and neighbouring towns in Banwa and Sourou provinces. The group alleged in the report that these actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. “The viral videos of the atrocities by pro-government militias near Solenzo sent shock waves through Africa’s Sahel region, but they told only part of the story,” said Ilaria Allegrozzi, senior Sahel researcher at Human Rights Watch. "Further research uncovered that Burkina Faso’s military was responsible for these mass killings of Fulani civilians, which were followed by deadly reprisals by an Islamist armed group. “The government needs to impartially investigate these deaths and prosecute all those responsible.” Beginning on February 27 and stretching into early April, the report stated that Operation Green Whirlwind 2 saw Rapid Intervention Battalions 7, 10, 18, and 23, under the command of Rapid Intervention Group 2, joined forces with hundreds of pro-government militia known as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDPs). According to the report, witness testimonies suggested the operation was not just a military manoeuvre against Islamist groups but a campaign of ethnic violence aimed squarely at Fulani civilians. “Thousands of Fulani families from over 20 villages set out for [neighbouring] Mali in search of protection,” said a 44-year-old Fulani herder from Solenzo, who lost eight family members during the March 8 attack. “However, we couldn’t reach Mali without crossing villages [that were] occupied by the VDPs and the army. “The VDPs shot at us like animals, while drones were flying over our heads. Many women and children died because they could not run.” Villagers reported that warnings were issued before the attacks. The report referenced a Fulani man from Sanakuy who recounted that a Bobo friend told him about upcoming operations targeting Fulani civilians. “My friend [an ethnic Bobo] who is close to the VDPs told me that the VDPs and the military were getting organised and strengthening their units. He drove me to the Malian border just one day before the killings,” the report quoted the man as saying. The worst killings occurred between the villages of Béna and Lékoro. According to HRW’s analysis and testimony from 27 witnesses, the military and VDPs executed an apparent pincer movement that trapped civilians in the bush. The operation left women, children, and the elderly vulnerable, many of whom were killed on the spot. “I saw a lot of VDPs coming, shooting at us indiscriminately.… We ran. But they chased us, caught some of us and executed them,” said a 60-year-old man from Sanakuy who was attacked near Béna on March 11. HRW said it also reviewed videos showing VDP members, some in uniforms labelled “Groupe d'autodéfense de Mahouna” and “Force Rapide de Kouka,” loading dead bodies onto a tricycle cart. One such video was geolocated to just east of Mahouna village, HRW stated, noting that witnesses recognised at least 14 people in the videos, including children. “I heard the VDPs saying in the Djoula language: ‘Nobody will escape! Look for the Fulani everywhere. We are going to kill all Fulani,’” said a 50-year-old woman from Solenzo. Similar ethnic-based hate speech was echoed in numerous eyewitness accounts and videos reviewed by HRW. A 45-year-old man from Lahirasso said that 10 of his friends and one relative were killed. “There were thousands of us walking toward Mali and after the attack by VDPs and soldiers, our number had considerably decreased,” he said. In a statement on March 15, the Burkinabè government was said to have claimed that its forces repelled a terrorist attack on March 10, killing about 100 assailants and rescuing civilians being used as human shields. According to HRW’s report, the government said it evacuated women and children and found stolen livestock, denying any deliberate targeting of civilians. However, the report noted that residents and survivors contradict this account as they insisted that there was no significant fighting between government forces and jihadist groups near Solenzo at the time of the killings. “For them it was a military operation against the terrorists, but [for them] we are the terrorists.… “The military and the VDPs just prepared an operation to cleanse the area of all the Fulani,” said a 50-year-old man from Solenzo. Following the atrocities, the Al Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) launched a series of retaliatory attacks in Sourou province, HRW stated. The jihadists targeted villages they suspected of supporting the military, killing at least 100 civilians. “All the men had been executed in front of the health centre,” said a 60-year-old woman from Tiao village, describing the April 5 massacre. “I counted up to 70 bodies.” Witnesses described how government forces entered towns like Di, Gonon, Lanfièra, and Tiao between March 21 and April 2, only to depart shortly after, leaving villagers defenceless. “The military came, they put on their show… with motorcycles, tanks, helicopters, and they left for Tougan,” said a 49-year-old man from Tiao. “And then the jihadists [JNIM fighters] came back to surround the village and kill people.” The HRW therefore urged the Burkinabè government to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation. The organisation also called on international bodies to intervene. “The scope of the atrocities committed by government forces, militias, and Islamist armed groups in western Burkina Faso remains grossly overlooked,” said Allegrozzi. “The United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council should urgently put Burkina Faso high on their agendas and act to protect civilians still at grave risk.” The report recalled that in a statement on March 18, Adama Dieng, African Union Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide, condemned the killings and emphasised, “targeting individuals based on their ethnicity is a reprehensible act that must be punished by national, continental, and international authorities.” The High Court in Ouagadougou announced a formal investigation on March 20 into calls for ethnic extermination. “Calls for the extermination of people belonging to an ethnic group… constitute grave threats to peace and social cohesion,” the prosecutor said. Eight separate lists compiled by survivors and viewed by HRW name 130 victims, including 32 children, 30 women, and 68 men from villages like Solenzo, Lahirasso, Sanakuy, and Pinpissi. Many believe the actual number of fatalities is much higher. A religious leader from Solenzo said, “All the people I spoke with provided a death toll that started from 300 and up.” One survivor, a 30-year-old man from Pinpissi, described a deadly VDP attack on his group of over 100 civilians. The man said, “There was intense shooting, some people fled, but many were shot and killed. When we crossed the border, we found out that at least 18 people had gone missing, including four children, two women, and one man.” A 50-year-old Fulani woman summed up the sentiment of many survivors, saying, “We were hiding under a tree when the soldiers passed by with their vehicles and the VDPs on motorcycles.… We watched them kill our people. It was a hunt—nothing else.” Burkina Faso’s ongoing conflict between government forces, ethnic militias, and Islamist armed groups has left tens of thousands dead and over two million displaced. The recent allegations raise serious questions about the Burkinabè government’s counterterrorism strategy and its commitment to human rights and the rule of law. The UN and African Union have been urged to not only investigate the massacres but also to consider sanctions and possible prosecution of those responsible under international law. Whether Burkina Faso’s transitional authorities will cooperate remains uncertain. But as the international community watches and survivors bury their dead, many in unmarked mass graves, the pressure for accountability mounts. “This wasn’t a war between armies,” said the Fulani herder who lost eight family members. “It was a war against families, women, and children. We are the ones who paid the price.” https://saharareporters.com/2025/05/12/burkina-faso-military-pro-govt-militias-targeted-massacred-over-130-fulani-civilians-oneMynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod |

Politics › UN: 52 Million People In West Africa Could Face Hunger From June Onwards by BlackViper(op): 3:44am On May 11, 2025 |
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that over 52 million people in West and Central Africa could face hunger between June and August.According to the latest analysis, at least 36 million people are currently struggling to meet their basic food needs. The WFP highlighted that this record hunger is driven by conflict, displacement, economic hardship, and repeated extreme weather, pushing the region toward a major crisis. Among those affected, nearly three million people are facing emergency levels of hunger, while 2,600 people in Mali are at risk of catastrophic hunger. Despite the historic scale of the need, available resources remain limited, putting millions of lives at risk. “Without immediate funding, WFP will be forced to scale down even further both in the number of people reached and the size of food rations distributed,” said Margot van der Velden, WFP’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa. Food insecurity in the Sahel has surged from just four per cent of the population in 2019 to 30% today, according to Ollo Sib, a senior research adviser with WFP. Speaking to journalists in Geneva from Dakar on Friday, Sib warned that the region’s food security situation remains extremely difficult and dire. “We hope that our voice will be heard,” he said. Sib recently visited some of the hardest-hit areas, including communities in northern Ghana grappling with unprecedented drought. “They were forced to replant two to three times, and for them, each failed sowing is an additional financial burden, as the cost of fertilisers and seeds was extremely high in those locations,” he explained. The assessment team also visited northern Mali, the only place in the region where people are facing catastrophic food security conditions. “We had the opportunity to interact with pastoralist elders who typically sell their livestock to buy cereals. This year, they were worried because the cost of food had risen by 50% compared to the five-year average. At the same time, they are unable to access markets to sell their goods,” he said. The World Food Programme (WFP) stated that persistent conflict is one of the key drivers of worsening hunger in West and Central Africa. Fighting has displaced over 10 million of the most vulnerable people in the region, including more than two million refugees and asylum seekers in Chad, Cameroon, Mauritania, and Niger. “Nearly eight million more have been internally displaced, primarily in Nigeria and Cameroon. “At the same time, rising food and fuel costs have driven food inflation, pushing hunger levels to new extremes. Recurrent extreme weather conditions are also further eroding families’ ability to feed themselves,” the WFP added. WFP’s response and funding appeal WFP stands ready to respond and scale up vital assistance in West Africa and the Sahel. The UN agency is seeking $710 million to support its life-saving operations through the end of October. The aim is to reach almost 12 million people this year with critical assistance. So far, teams have already reached three million of the most vulnerable individuals, including refugees, internally displaced people, malnourished children under five, and pregnant or breastfeeding women and girls. However, the agency warned that five million people risk losing assistance unless urgent funding is found. Investing in long-term solutions WFP also called for governments and partners to invest in sustainable solutions aimed at building resilience and reducing long-term dependency on aid. Since 2018, the UN agency has been working with regional governments to address the root causes of hunger through a programme that has rehabilitated over 300,000 hectares of land, benefiting more than four million people in over 3,400 villages. https://nairametrics.com/2025/05/10/un-warns-over-52-million-in-west-central-africa-could-face-hunger-between-june-and-august/Mynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod |

Imagine being comfortably unintelligent to voice such a moronic statement and leave your fellow citizens to suffer from second hand embarrassment on your behalf. Classic low IQ leader with nothing of value to offer. China is one of the strongest countries in the world, and it’s a one-party system. We are not saying we are working for a one-party system, but if that is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that. |

Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says there is nothing wrong with having a one-party system in Nigeria.
Ganduje spoke on Friday after leading a delegation of three senators from Kebbi state to meet with President Bola Tinubu.
The three senators – Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi and Garba Maidoki – on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declared their intention to join the APC.
Reacting to whether the wave of defection of opposition politicians to the ruling APC would not slide Nigeria into a one-party state, Ganduje cited China as an example of a working one-party state.
“We came here so that Mr President can bless this resolution, and Mr President has graciously blessed this resolution. On Tuesday, I urge you to go and see what will happen in the chambers,” he said.
“If a one-party state is a wish and blessing to Nigeria… a one-party state is not by force.
“One party’s state is by negotiation, and it is by other political parties seeing the effect of the positive governance of our party.
“If they decide to come to our party willingly, I think there is nothing wrong with that.
“You know they say too many cooks spoil the soup — too many political parties spoil governance.

Celebrities › Pope Leo XIV’s Maternal Grandparents Were Black by BlackViper(op): 12:41am On May 10, 2025 |
Pope Leo XIV’s maternal grandparents were black or mixed and of Creole descent, moving from New Orleans to Chicago at the turn of the 20th century, reports said Friday. “The family were free people of color prior to the Civil War. When they moved to Chicago between 1910 and 1912, they ‘passed’ into the white world,” Jari Honora, a historian at the Historic New Orleans Collection, told CNN of the new pope’s mother’s parents. The pope’s maternal grandfather, Joseph Martinez, was described as a black cigarmaker from “Hayti” in some historical records, while other documents listed his birthplace as the Dominican Republic or Louisiana, the New York Times said. His maternal grandmother, Louise Baquiex, was born in New Orleans, according to documents. “Both Joseph Norval Martinez and Louise Baquié were people of color, no doubt about it,” Honora told the Times. The pope’s brother John Prevost told the outlet that his paternal grandparents were from France.
He said his family did not identify as black and that he and his siblings didn’t talk about their Creole ties.“It was never an issue,” John said. The pope’s newly revealed ancestry “is just an additional reminder of how interwoven we are as Americans,” Honora told the Times. “I hope that it will highlight the long history of black Catholics, both free and enslaved, in this country, which includes the Holy Father’s family,” he said.A New Orleans priest with Creole ancestry, Father Tony Ricard, said Pope Leo XIV’s genealogy wasn’t much of a surprise to him. Jari Honora, family historian for the Historic New Orleans Collection, shows genealogy material of the grandparents of Pope Leo XIV in New Orleans, Friday, May 9, 2025. “When [Pope Leo] came to the balcony, I looked up, and I was like, ‘That dude looks like he could be my brother,” the priest told CNN. “And that’s before we even knew what his heritage was. “I guess we have to start calling him ‘the Gumbo Pope’ because he’s a little bit of everything mixed together,” Ricard quipped. https://www.hostpic.org/images/2505100525010112.jpegMynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod https://nypost.com/2025/05/09/world-news/pope-leo-xiv-is-person-of-color-with-surprising-ancestry/?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=nypost&utm_medium=social |
Politics › British-Nigerian Ochuko Ojiri Found Guilty Of Funding Hezbollah by BlackViper(op): 5:59pm On May 09, 2025 |
British-Nigerian Art Dealer ‘Ochuko’ Ojiri Pleads Guilty To Terrorism Financing In UK
A 53-year-old British-Nigerian art expert, Oghenochuko ‘Ochuko’ Ojiri, has pleaded guilty in a terrorism financing case after failing to report a series of high-value art sales to a man sanctioned over alleged links to Hezbollah.
Ojiri, who has appeared as a freelance expert on BBC programmes including Bargain Hunt, admitted eight counts of failing to make a disclosure during the course of business under the Terrorism Act 2000. This marks the first prosecution of its kind in the United Kingdom.
According to a BBC report, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard that between October 2020 and December 2021, Ojiri sold artwork worth £140,000 to Nazem Ahmad, a man sanctioned by the United States in 2019 and later by the UK government in 2023 for alleged support to the proscribed group Hezbollah.
Prosecuting, Lyndon Harris told the court: “There is one discussion where Ojiri is party to a conversation where it is apparent a lot of people have known for years about [Ahmad's] terrorism links.”
He also said: “Ramp Gallery engaged a third party to advise on compliance matters,” but added that the advice was “not properly acted on.”
Ojiri, who founded Ramp Gallery—now operating as Ojiri Gallery—in east London, dealt directly with Ahmad, negotiated sales, and congratulated him on his purchases.
The UK government previously noted that Ahmad had “an extensive art collection in the UK” and conducted business “with multiple UK-based artists, art galleries and auction houses.”
Hezbollah, a Shia political and militant organisation based in Lebanon and backed by Iran, is proscribed as a terrorist group by both the UK and the US.
Ojiri’s prosecution followed investigations by the Metropolitan Police’s specialist arts and antiques unit, in collaboration with the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) and HMRC.
Under the Terrorism Act, individuals are required to notify authorities if they suspect a business associate is involved in funding proscribed groups.
Ojiri is listed on the Bargain Hunt website as one of the show’s experts. He is not a BBC employee and has not appeared on any of the broadcaster’s programmes since 2023.
“It would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings,” a BBC spokesperson said.
District Judge Briony Clarke granted Ojiri bail and ordered him to surrender his passport. His barrister, Gavin Irwin, told the court that Ojiri is not considered a flight risk.
Sentencing has been scheduled for June 6 at the Old Bailey. https://saharareporters.com/2025/05/09/british-nigerian-art-dealer-ochuko-ojiri-pleads-guilty-terrorism-financing-uk

Politics › Re: Western Education Just A Formality - Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed by BlackViper(op): 10:19pm On May 08, 2025 |
Hmm, I understand that the over emphasis we sometimes place on paper qualifications isn't always a good thing, but should the governor of an educationally backwards state be making such a statement to young people, especially when he himself benefited from so called Western education? Is that not hypocrisy of the highest order? |
Politics › Western Education Just A Formality - Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed by BlackViper(op): 10:18pm On May 08, 2025 |
The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has stirred controversy after declaring that Western education is merely a "formality" stating that formal schooling is not a requirement for success in life.
The governor made the statement during a public address to farmers and artisans in Bauchi, urging young people to adopt discipline and avoid self-destructive habits.
The speech was captured in a video shared on Instagram by Bashir Usman and seen by SaharaReporters.
“Try to be focused and turn a new leaf. Stop drinking and stop taking what will destroy your brain,” Governor Mohammed said.
He explained that many successful individuals began their journeys in humble professions, such as truck driving, and did not rely on formal schooling to become prosperous.
"Today, Bala did not go to school but he became somebody," he told the crowd, referring to himself in the third person.
"Take care of your behaviour. Western education is a formality, but if you have Qur'anic education, you have knowledge of what it takes and you've helped yourself in knowing what you want, especially in farming — that is education."
He further stated that the value of informal and religious education, particularly Qur’anic learning, which he claimed provides practical knowledge needed for farming and other trades.
Governor Mohammed also highlighted the importance of blue-collar jobs, especially in transportation, as a pathway to wealth.
"Any rich person you see today started from driving. From the onset, it is a job that brings prosperity. All the rich people you see today started as drivers of trailers. Don’t overlook self-trading jobs. I don’t know anyone who got rich from car washing, but drivers did."
The governor’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some critics accusing him of downplaying the importance of formal education in a state and country still struggling with literacy challenges and educational access. https://saharareporters.com/2025/05/08/western-education-formality-cannot-determine-what-you-ought-be-bauchi-governor-mohammed
