i refuse to believe that this comment came from a free thinking being.... i do not believe so. DeLaRue: |
budaatum:I laugh so loudly and hilariously when people think Tinubu, will truly tackle corruption. Tinubu .... of all people? Kai!! My people are so gullible!! |
bejeria101:...on the contrary, you appear like the clown here. If you don't understand that the Govt. of Nigeria is ILLIQUID and dont have anywhere else to fund the budget (including the increasing fuel subsidy), then your cluelessness is incurable, I am sorry. Currently, the Govt. is negotiating loans with foreign lenders, maybe you are not so current. The Govt has taken nearly $5.5bn since October last year to defend the naira and would certainly need more to keep the country moving on. The people telling you the truth are the foreigners. Read wide and be enlightened and stop listening to the commercial bus park or residential estate whatsapp group discussions. |
jumper524:lol...we shall see. Currently, the Nigerian govt is talking to the world bank for more loans and might have to turn to the ways and means(recently condemned by this current administration) to fund the budget. Or how else do you expect them to fund the budget?? with the subsidy back and growing much more than it was before it was "pronounced ended" The govt will borrow, Watch out in the next few months and you will come back to appreciate their openness and honesty in telling you how bad things have grown |
Day169:...for calling out the truth? |
jumper524:Lol...that last line shows that you do not understand how things work. Nigerian govt. can not resist borrowing. in fact, the main reason Tinubu is running from pillar to post to Arabian countries even when they don't want him is to seek for foreign loans/investments. NIGERIA IS ILLIQUID!!! The little money you see circulating in the economy is the ways and means(free currency printing) granted by Emefiele. No inflow is coming from Oil sale(the oil production for next 18 months have been used as futures/derivates). Whatever the govt is calling inflow from recent publications are portfolio investment that will have to be taken out of the country by their investors. This current government might have no other option than to turn to the ways and means that they have been badmouthing recently. The subsidy is back, even bigger that it was despite the government being hush about it. No foreign organisation wants to grant Nigerian loans because the feel the reforms were not well implemented. |
Jaqenhghar:Comprehension issue!! You are the unintelligent one. Now read 1.The govt is not getting forex inflows. All future oil sales for months/years have been locked up in future/derivates, meaning the oil have been sold in advance and money collected by previous administration. 2. The current govt came up with an expansionary budget, designed to spend its way out of economic challenges, hence a very huge budget 3. The subsidy is back, meaning govt have to spend more than it budgeted in order to avoid social strife/disruption 4. No multilateral/bilateral organisation is willing to give Nigeria further loans due the poor ratings and so because they feel that the reforms were half hearted and there might be irrational govt interventions soon based on on-going events. 5. The only option left is to borrow internally through ways and means(same thing previous admin did) All of the above are facts in the open. Do you understand now? |
seunayantokun:Buhari might have mismanaged the economy broadly speaking, the hasty decision to remove the subsidy and devalue the currency without a proper plan is responsible for the worse situation. Leave Buhari out of this for now. The guy who bragged about fixing Nigeria based on building Lagos is now in charge of destroying the country completely. The govt has no choice but to borrow. There is no other option at least for now. Nigeria is going, going..... |
adenigga:My takes from this read up: 1. The removal of subsidy and naira devaluation was not well thought out, no matter how the Govt. press have made them to appear. Decisions appear to have been mulled at a beer parlour or maybe he was misadvised. 2. Tinubu's administrative prowess and so called intellectual experience have been overestimated. He doesn't have them. Only an inexperienced leader will take those two heavy decisions same time without weighing the consequences(something a high school student would have done). Now the subsidy is back much more than it was when he stopped it. 3. The Govt, deliberately devalued the currency, there is absolutely no truth in the floating and the willing buyer/willing seller hogwash being bandied about. 4. Nigeria is in deep shit. The current guys in charge of the economy are clueless. They are just pulling at straws to see if the field will settle magically. 5. Nigeria will have to continue borrowing to even run the govt. With little coming from oil production sales and huge appetite for importations, there is no way out for at least the next few years. The economy has been so badly mismanaged in the past and the 6. If anyone is deceiving you that the exchange rate will get back to N1,200 or so, you are in a la la land. It will never get back. The Govt deliberately devalued. There is nothing like floating the currency. it was devalued. 7. Dangote refinery can not rescue Nigeria. Expecting a private entity to run at losses to shore up an economy is foolhardy, to say the least. He will prioritize foreign sales and remittances will be to the company accounts in diaspora. 8. I am shocked that Nigerians are this docile, not challenging the government to brace up and look for quicker remedies to its wrong decisions. They really do not understand how things will get bad in coming months when minimum wages are increased(and if they are not increased, there will be strife). Nigeria is in a big trouble, I can foresee. My view. if you have the means to get out of Nigeria or move your assets out at least, do not delay. Act now. With the people at the helm now, it will never get better, as disheartening as it sounds. |
This one dey talk about him own...maybe he has been locked out of power |
...because he has a business of collecting tithes from salary earners(mugus).....ask him what business has he set up? Church business? |
FreeStuffsNG:What records did hebset straight? Any country still taking hand outs from a warn torn country is a failed state....putting a lipstick on a pig changes nothing. |
I can relate. Because of what I saw, the rot, the poor attitude of the health workers, the alarming disregard for human life at Nigerian hospitals, both public and private, that led to the death of my father in 2012. I vowed not to rest a bit in my life until I took my immediate and some of my extended family members out of that hell-hole called Nigeria. My father was a strong believer in Nigeria and jettisoned/shunned many opportunities to move overseas in the early 70s when his foreign partners and superiors presented him those opportunities...he regretted it on his deathbed....this was in January 2012, during the fuel price strike by labour unions. Strike was called off hours after he died. His death was avoidable. It was due to non challance and poor work ethics(wrong diagnosis., wrong administration of medication.., all combined)...the Medial director came to apologise later but...deed was done already |
aribisala0:The moment I saw this dude using cows as a major yardstick for comparing countries, I just knew why he is on Nairaland...... |
This woman is very shallow minded...you lost your husband, and what you are most bothered about is what people say about you? |
We4all:How is this your own worry? |
flokii:..what will happen? |
When people were jubiating that Saraki was removed from senate at Ilorin, I warned them. That the only people checking Buharis lawlessness was Saraki and his team in the senate. I told them that Nigeria will be worse for it. Any country that has it's legislature as a rubber stamp for the executive would suffer bad leadership and dictatorial rulership. You need then to disagree always especially on the best route to give good leadership to the country. The current senate will be worse. Its really over for Nigeria. |
...so says the dude who dodged national duty and ran off to his club...who even knew him before now. Same person who thought the team will never make it beyond the group stage and scampered off claiming injury only to play for his club the next day he arrived at his club. |
PROUDIGBO:You will be shocked to find out that the deal os one soded, that Nigerian lawyers can't practice freely over there. |
Winning123:What a post. 🤦 Never seen a more gullible post. |
Jokers |
Misplaced thinking....its is not food crisis, it is purchasing power problem....these guys are so overrated. No intelligence kobold! |
Nigerians condemning the reactions from South africans as if they would not have reacted same way or worse if a Nigerian voiced his support for South Africa to win against Nigeria. Hypocrisy |
AOB1:How will you have reacted if this was a Nigerian supporting South Africa to win...? I'm sure you woukd have called him names too |
Nigeria is gone for good....misplaced priorities....im sure there are people at the government hospitals at the point of death that this money could save their lives by equipping the hospitals with necessary life saving equipment and drugs...one guy lamented the other day on social media that his mum died after 6 hours of no attention at a government hospital in Lagos while waiting for oxygen . The hospital claimed they did not have oxygen. It is finished. I hope Nigeria does not qualify for the finals otherwise it will be another jamboree visit for these useless politicians...all of them will travel to abidjan with large entourage at taxpayers expense |
Nigerians don't know what they call "brand new" again. As usual it has a different meaning here from the rest of the world. |
niyisky:...... ...and these ones are not ruining it? ....dey play. It will reach 2k by mid year as projected. These ones don't know what they are doing. Wait till you start begging for Emefiele to be reinstalled. |
...he was right. If only he did not mess a lot more up himself by indulging in shady deals on forex trying to satisfy some political guns. The biggest mistake Tinubu did was forcing the free float of naira. He was ill advised. I remnwred when he said this and I knew he was right. You only need to understand the fundamentals tgat a mono economy like nigeria had little shock absorbers to expose its currency to waves of forex topsy turvy. A currency that is not traded beyond the shores of Nigeria, that is secondary to the USD even in thr Nigeria economy( companies and businesses transactions in USD even in Nigeria). It is only daft to float it without correcting the mechanism for shoeing it up ans defending it against other currencies. The naira will never recover...forget all those Cardoso and Yemi eduns grammar. It's gone. |
NextAbuja:1. It is very obvious you are one of the paid online attack team(going by your registration date on nairaland) from your response. You also clearly exposed your ignorance and half education. I will make attempts to educate you below. 2. Its either you lack knowledge of how pension and earnings are calculated for record purposes or you chose to ignore key facts in what i stated in my earlier post( other people stated the same). Globally, in calculating total income, all earnings, allowances and benefits such as medical allowances, cars, housing, domestic staffs, etc, are considered Benefits in kinds and earnings /pensions so long as they are provided by an employer or someone else, in this case, LASG. They do not need to be paid monthly. it is provided and paid for by LASG out of taxpayers monies and as such, it is part of his earnings as contained in the pension act of 2007. The N577K is just the cash part of it and he knew he was hiding the truth by not mentioning others. You stating that there is no record to show he collects them on a monthly basis just completely exposed your level of education and understanding. He is entitled to 6 brand new cars every 3 years, houses maintained, free foreign medical trips, millions of naira worth of furniture allowance, etc....is that coming from his pocket? Lagosians are paying for them...and as such, form part of his pension. 3. Other Governors collect same. This is an aisinine statement and one of the types of thinking that have moved Nigeria backwards. Does that remove the fact that Fashola was half honest in his statement? NO! He knew he will get away with it because of people like you that rather generalise crime and corruption because of affiliations rather than hold them accountable for their lies, kleptomania, corruption and brazen stealing. More shamefully was the interviewers not pointing it out to him because they do not have the knowledge or they agreed to "soften" for him being a former governor. 4. What you need to do is to go and read the Lagos state Pension Act of 2007 and ask your seniors to explain to you what is called "Total earnings" under the tax laws. Globally, those are part of earnings and pensions whether paid monthly or accrued/amortised yearly. 5. The fact that you resorted to insults also indicates your level of maturity. Calling out someone's father on a public forum also highlights how you were brought up. I am sure, your parents will be proud of you wherever they are for insulting the fathers of other people when there was no call for it. its an uncouth reaction by louts and not not suited for civil discussion as only those who lack knowledge do that. It appears you get your mojo from cursing others peoples father. Hmm!! As Yoruba people will say, Ile lati ko esho re ode( You can only exhibit your homely traits outside unconsciously). You have represented you home well. PI have another example to show my little children on inappropriate behaviours in a sane social setting. 6. Again, I do not think you know the real meaning of bigots and you have used it completely in a lout lout manner, in assuming I am one of the obidients or people of other tribes to have labelled me a bigot to score a cheap point. I am Yoruba from Lagos(indigenous) and lived in Lagos all my years until i moved out of the country to a saner climes for the betterment of my life and my children's future. Finally, if Nigeria is half full of people like you, then it is quite unfortunate and I do not see any betterment in the lot of the teeming youths who roam the streets everyday anytime soon, at least in this generation and next. One of the reasons Nigeria has become what it is today(or at least before I left) is pure illiteracy of the populace. This is not about whether one went to school but putting the knowledge to reasoning in everyday things and discerning of light and darkness, truth or evil, progress or stagnation. I know for a fact, that the amount Lagos state government budgets on pensions for retired politicians(Governors/Deputies)and other paddy paddy settlement in the last 5 years alone is enough to build and equip another teaching hospital like the one at Ikeja, somewhere else in Lagos. Wait until you have a reason to go to the teaching hospital, you will weep for Nigeria. That is part of your future being frittered away by a select few. I repeat, there is a reason Lagos state government refused to enact the localised FOI bill or even honour several requests from well meaning Lagosians on Lagos state government spending and more transparency on internal revenue, something that is the right of any tax payer in saner climes. My last shot, A country begets the leaders it deserves. They are your enemies, not people on nairaland, fight them for your future. Dropped pen...unfollows thread! |
TimeManager:Fashola was half honest. The 577k is just the pension but he failed to tell people the accompanying Benefits in kind which includes a considerable number of domestic staff for both him and his family paid for by Lagos state govt, the 2 cars that must be replaced every 3 or 4 years, the choice houses built in Abuja and Lagos that must be maintained by Lagos taxpayers money every year, the guaranteed foreign medical services available to him and members of his family, etc..all enshrined in that Lagos state pension act for governors and deputies...in tax laws and practice, these are monetized...and when you do, it is already running into billions of naira. Dont be gullible, there is a reason Lagos state government refused to enact the state version of the Freedom of information Bill...there is a lot they are hiding from you. The painful part of it was the interviewers who were so inept about the questions they were asking him. It's either they were caught in the awe of Mr Fashola so much so that they forgot their jobs and displayed brazen ineptitude or some brown envelopes were already exchanged behind the studios before the interview to soften their questioning. A shame of a country. People beget the kind of leaders they deserve. Weak people..poor leadership..poor quality of life.. |
While hundreds of their citizens are killed by terrorists |
.... of all people? Kai!! My people are so gullible!!
