PoliticsIze-Iyamu To Appeal Court Judgement Disqualifying His Candidacy by BleedingPen(op): 5:10pm On Jan 06, 2021
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19 Edo 2020 Governorship election, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is appealing a High Court ruling nullifying his candidacy alongside the running mate, Gani Audu.

Igbere TV had reported how the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City on Wednesday, disqualified the candidates of the APC over alleged infractions contained in the documents submitted to INEC by the Deputy Governorship candidate, Gani Audu.

In a statement forwarded to Igbere TV by the Edo APC Campaign Organization in reaction to the judgement, Ize-Iyamu described the ruling as “unfortunate and utterly wrong”.

“I have already instructed my Counsel to appeal against the judgment, as I am convinced that the Court of Appeal will dispassionately consider the facts presented before the Court and arrive at a just decision in accordance with the law,” he said.

He also urged his supporters in the state and beyond to remain calm and law-abiding, while expressing confidence that justice will prevail in the matter.

The tightly-contested Edo guber race remains subject of litigation over contended discrepancies in the academic credentials of the declared winner, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

PoliticsHon Nkole Extols Kalu's Statesmanship, Tasks Abians To Support Ikpeazu (photos) by BleedingPen(op): 7:21pm On Jan 05, 2021
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uko Nkole has lauded the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for his statesmanship at maintaining a bipartisan synergy among members of the ruling and opposition parties both at the state and federal level.

Nkole, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member disclosed this on Monday during a condolence visit by the Chief Whip and the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Kalu at his country home in Ozu Abam over the demise of his father, Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe Nkole.

Igbere TV recalls that the Late Emmanuel Nkole, was laid to rest on 19th December, 2020. He died at age 79. Kalu on the other hand is an All Progressive Congress (APC) senator.

According to Nkole representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency at the green chambers, the bipartisan relationship has resulted to peace and unity being enjoyed in Abia state.

Nkole disclosed that the synergy led to the approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to award the rehabilitation of Route F107 Umuahia-Bende-Ozu Abam-Ohafia road and the recent appropriation of funds in the 2021 budget for the rehabilitation of Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Alayi Igbere-Abiriba-Ohafia road.

He said, “In few times I have met you, Your Excellency, Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, you have remained a strong and vocal supporter to our Governor. I have never neither heard nor read where you said anything against the leadership of the State and I want to urge everyone to emulate your style of leadership. Abia is our State and we must continue to project it positively.

“Public office is not for self-aggrandizement and popularity show but selfless service to the people. Our synergy in the National Assembly is bringing a lot of good tidings to our people.Your good works is a credit to the State, the Governor and Abians and I am happy that South East Governors are coming together despite their party affiliations.”

Earlier in his address, Senator Kalu while conveying his condolence message described Late Nkole as a man with distinct qualities and urged the Nkole's family to take solace in the fact that their Late father had gone to rest among the Saints.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of his gentle soul and fortitude for the family to bear the irreparable loss.

The two-time former Governor of Abia State while thanking Nkole for the warm hospitality accorded to them, further described him as a friendly and experienced federal lawmaker who has made an impact across the federal constituency through his effective and quality representation at the National Assembly.

The Senate Chief Whip specially commended Nkole for the enormous supports he has given to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and urged him never to relent in showing solidarity to the Governor adding that Ikpeazu as the political leader of the State deserves the unflinching supports of Abians.

“Hon. Nkole, I like you, you are my friend and my brother. I want to thank you for the supports you are showing to the Governor. Don't stop, continue moving in that direction. Okezie Ikpeazu is our leader and our Governor. For me, I will always support him at all times. My earnest prayer and need is to ensure that all Abians, Igbos and Nigerians continues to move forward.”

Senator Kalu applauded Nkole for always synergizing with him and other Federal legislators from Abia North extraction and noted that, the team work has created a more friendly and enabling environment for Abia North to keep progressing.

“In our State, we must work as one. In the National Assembly, we should continue to work as a team as we are doing now, if we don't work as a team, we will not be able to achieve much, but when we work as a team, we have everything by our side.”

The Abia North Senator further urged other political leaders to learn from his political philosophy, which is "politics without bitterness".

He advised political leaders to use their time to bring unity and love for one another and deliver democracy dividends that will be of immense benefits to the people.

“Let us use our time to preach love and bring dividends of democracy to our people. People we want to lift up is more important than people we want to pull down. Think about love, unity of purpose and understanding between one another. We must continue to preach so that our people will understand that we must believe in one united, peaceful and progressive Nigeria.”

Igbere TV reports that Chief Daniel Okeke; Mazi John Million Okeke, the APC Chairman, Arochukwu LGA; Dr, Maduka Ukaegbu; Mrs. Ezinne Odefa, Public Relations Officer, Michael Okpara Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike; among other dignatories accompanied Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on the condolence visit.

PoliticsAgain, Tension In Edo As Over 100 Prison Inmates Escape From Cells by BleedingPen(op):
Tension is currently mounting in Edo, South South, Nigeria following the alleged escape of over 100 suspected kidnappers and robbers from a detention cell in the state.

Igbere TV gathered Sunday that the robbery and kidnapping suspects escaped from the cell of the State Criminal Investigation Department (S-CID), on New Year eve.

This is coming barely two months after about 2,000 prison inmates escaped from various detention cells in the state, during the #EndSARS protests in Edo, in October 2020.

Meanwhile, Igbere TV reliably gathered that the latest jailbreak was stage-managed midnight into the New Year, January 1, 2021, when most police officers had closed from work.

The state CID detention, were the latest set of prison inmates escaped from is located within the premises of the state command headquarters, along Sapele road axis, GRA, in Benin City.

Among those who escaped, according to a senior officer who confided in our reporter, were hardened criminals who were re-arrested after escaping from jail during the #EndSARS riot in Edo.

Although the police authorities are yet to issue a formal statement, Igbere TV, however, gathered that some officers believed to be responsible for the escape, have been arrested.

It was gathered that the development is being kept a 'top-secret' within the police authorities owing to the fears it could create in the minds of residents in Edo, a state that has witnessed high rate of crimes in recent time.

“Yes, the story is true. The escape happened some nights ago but has remained a top secret within the police authorities in the state for obvious reasons,” our source said, craving anonymity.

Efforts to obtain comment from the police spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor were unsuccessful as calls put to his phone line went unanswered. He kept rejecting the calls for unknown reasons.

Similarly, the police commissioner, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, could not be reached. A source close to his office said the CP had been elevated to Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) in the Force headquarters, Abuja. His deputy, who is said to be in acting capacity, could not be reached either.

Christianity EtcOPM Founder, Apst Chinyere Organizes Free Eye Clinic For Abia Residents (Photos) by BleedingPen(op): 3:09pm On Jan 03, 2021
General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere has organized a free eye-care testing, treatment and eyeglass distribution for the people of Ohanku community and environs.

Igbere TV reports that no fewer than 205 persons benefited from the free eye-care testing and treatment organized by the clergy at his country home in Ohanku Ndoki, in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.

Apostle Chinyere, who is always known for his love for humanity, globally, thought it wise to assist the people with eye related cases who could not access any health care due to lack of finances.

The OPM Founder was on December 10, 2020, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, in Abuja, during the 2020 IgbereTV Leadership Excellence Awards named ‘Most Outstanding Humanitarian of the year’ after coming tops in the nationwide online voting.

Meanwhile, people from Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Aba and its environs, in Abia State, benefited from the noble gesture of the free eye-care testing and treatment of Apostle Chiyere, Igbere TV reports.

According to Apostle Chinyere, while speaking on the gesture, “a lot of people have eye problem but cannot go to the hospital due to lack of money.”

“By the Grace of God, I said let me use money from the offering and the tithe to offer this free treatment”, adding that the drugs, eyeglasses and treatment were all free.

Our correspondent, who witnessed the free eye-care testing and treatment clinic reports that the popular clergy employed the services of seasoned professionals to carryout the exercise.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Uche Okere from Azumini Ndoki, said he was really surprised but that what he has been hearing about the man of God was confirmed real.

He said he was grateful to God for having such a man who cares for the poor, narrating how the lack of money nearly made him go blind and therefore thanked Apostle Chinyere for the noble gesture.

When asked by Igbere TV on how much he paid to receive the eye treatment, Mr. Okere said he paid no dime as the man of God already paid all the bills in full.

Another beneficiary Mrs Victoria Onyedinachi, also thanked Apostle Chinyere for what she described as rescue mission for them that has eye problem.

According to her, she initially thought she will not be allowed to participate because she is not a member of OPM but to her surprise they did not discriminate as many beneficiaries were not a member of OPM.

Rev. Chukwudiazu, an Anglican Priest and one of the beneficiaries from Ukwa West Local Government of Abia state, also thanked Apostle Chinyere for being a helper to many.

He said that what Apostle Chinyere is doing is what God commanded and want from the people, adding that only few men of God like Apostle Chinyere were doing what God says.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon Chuks Wabara, has thanked Apostle Chinyere for all his contributions to humanity.

In a statement, Hon Wabara acknowledged that Apostle Chinyere’s prayers before, during and after his election got him into Office.

He thanked the clergy for building free school and free hospital in Ohanku Community, revealing that the local government will partner with the man of God.

Responding, Apostle Chinyere told the LGA chairman to govern the council with the fear of God knowing that it is God who gives power that put him there.

Apostle Chinyere has built over 15 free schools, about 2 free specialist hospitals, multi free skills acquisition centres which has trained more than 20,000 Nigerians, free restaurants etc.

By Emeh James Anyalekwa, Ogochukwu Isioma

UYO — Popular online medium, IGBERE TV, says its report on the resignation of police officer CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor was factual, and that it stands by it.

“Our reporting was factual, exclusively ran and based on oral and written conversation with the senior police officer,” IGBERE TV said in a statement on Sunday.

IGBERE TV stated this in response to comments by the Akwa Ibom state police spokesman that the report was a ‘figment of the platform's imagination’ and should be ignored.

“For the avoidance of doubt, appointments and resignations of the NPF are not done on social media,” a statement from the Akwa Ibom police command said, on Saturday.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Amienghene Andrew, fdc, is not in receipt of any letter of resignation from the Senior Officer and has not in anyway communicated same to the Force Headquarters.”

It added that, “The Senior Officer (CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor) is still a bonafide member of the NPF and still the DPO of Itam Divisional Police Headquarters.”

IGBERE TV had published an exclusive story over the weekend on the resignation of CSP Francis Erhabor, the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of ‘D’ division Itam, in Uyo, over non-promotion and nepotism in the system.

Reacting on Sunday, in a statement entitled, ‘CSP Francis Erhabor: We Stand By Our Report - IGBERE TV’, the news outlet insisted the report was factual.

Describing the comments from the Akwa Ibom police command as ‘empty’, the platform wondered why the Force failed to respond to issues in the report, particularly the non-promotion of the senior police officer and allegations of nepotism in the system.

“We are not surprised that the report drew the ire of the police authorities, who are reportedly now mounting pressure on the senior police officer to rescind his decision.

“We are only surprised at the empty ’statement’ credited to one SP Odiko MacDon, who is said to be the public relations officer of the Akwa Ibom police command, headquarters, in Uyo.

“We wonder why the Force failed to touch the issues in the report: the non-promotion of the senior officer for over three consecutive times, the reported nepotism in the Force, and 'induced' promotion of junior colleagues over senior police officers.

“We insist that our reporting was factual and based on oral and written conversation with the senior police officer as obtained by Igbere TV, and we stand by our report even at this time.

“For the avoidance of doubt, CSP Erhabor before bowing out, while expressing regrets, said, ‘I am sorry I let all my fans down. I am deeply sorry for not finishing where you all expected me to finish’. For how long shall the system continue to allow mediocrity, nepotism strive instead of giving preference to and rewarding passionate and honest Force men?”

A senior police officer in Akwa Ibom State, who heads a police division in the state just like CSP Erhabor, on Saturday told PREMIUM TIMES that Erhabor did resign and that “he has been under intense pressure from the police authorities to reconsider his action”.

PoliticsAPC Will Reclaim Abia In 2023, Says Senator Orji Kalu by BleedingPen(op): 12:11pm On Jan 02, 2021
Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will reclaim Abia state in the 2023 general elections.

Kalu stated this while receiving over 5,000 members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who decamped to the APC in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia state, yesterday, Igbere TV reports.

“We must reclaim Abia state come 2023, and I am not mincing words, we are not leaving any stone unturned, we have already set the agenda and we are working towards it. The APC is a party for all Nigerians regardless of religion or tribe,” he said.

Senator Orji Kalu berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration in the state for its alleged failure to consolidate on the good works he left behind as Governor.

According to Kalu, “I introduced PDP into this state and I will also be the one that will sweep away the PDP. During my tenure as governor, we implemented a completely free education policy, it didn't end there we also provided the students with free stationery and school uniforms. Unfortunately, the reverse has been the case ever since I left as Governor.

“Government must prioritize the welfare of the people. The local government must be empowered and well funded and allowed to operate autonomously because the local government is the foundation that delivers democratic dividends to the people.”

While recounting his achievements as Senator, Kalu said “take a tour to Abia-North and see what is happening there. We are just one year plus in office but we are renovating over 50 primary schools, we have also attracted 19 road projects which are ongoing. That is what democracy is all about.”

Leader of the APGA, Hon. Ezechimerem Ihuoma, who led the decamping APGA members, said it became necessary to join the APC which they described as the progressive moving train in the state as a result of the result-orientated leadership of Orji Kalu.

Ihuoma said he decided to lead thousands of his supporters to the APC to support and restore the glory of Abia State. He disclosed that he was inspired by the development agenda of Kalu in Abia-North.

In his words, “We are strongly against the bad governance in Abia, by joining the APC today we have conquered the PDP in this state. We are going to fight by mobilizing our people to make the change. I am glad that Senator Orji Kalu the leader of the party in the Southeast is here present.”

Earlier, the APC LGA party chairman, Hon Endy U. welcomed the new entrants and assured them of a level playing ground in the party. He emphasised the need for the members to mobilise at their various wards.

Meanwhile, while presenting the broom to the decamping APGA members, Sen. Kalu welcomed them to the new party, urging them not to relent in their quest for good governance.

Igbere TV reports that the decamping ceremony, which held yesterday, had in attendance party faithfuls and stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia led by Senator Orji Kalu, who is leader of the party in the Southeast.

“I Rejected N864m”, Policeman ‘Who Never Took Bribe’ Resigns Over Non-Promotion

CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor, the policeman and divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of ‘D’ division Itam in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state, who is acclaimed to have never taken a bribe since over 30 years in active service, has resigned from the profession.

Erhabor, who made headlines after rejecting a whopping N864 million bribe, was on December 10, 2020, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, in Abuja, during the 2020 IgbereTV Leadership Excellence Awards named ‘Police officer of the year’ after coming tops in the nationwide online voting.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IGBERE TV on New Year day, 1st January 2021, the police officer lamented that he feels cheated by the system, having been denied promotion more than thrice despite all his efforts and sacrifices for the police force and the country.

His words: “I joined this noble profession as a cadet inspector on the 2nd of April, 1990. I was 17 years plus at the time. I was told by cerebral and seasoned Police officers like AIG Albasu, AIG Akagbosun, AIG Iyamabo, and DIG Ugowe all retired, that the force needed folks like me. Youths who were patriotic and passionate.

“I loved and believed in this project called Nigeria, and the profession, the Nigeria Police was a great platform to serve my fatherland. I sincerely believed in this job, loved this job and sacrificed so much for this job.

“Looking back, all I see is "nobody cares". Being cheated out of promotion not once, twice or thrice. Served over thirty years meritoriously and stainless by God's grace, and not honoured by the system, instead have only enjoyed promotion only 5 times. I thank God for His grace, that insulated me for the past 30yrs.”

On how he rejected N864m bribe, CSP Erhabor said, “As a pipeline Commander in Edo state, I turned down N6.5m weekly; N24m monthly; N288m yearly, and a whooping sum of N864 for the 3years I served as a commander.”

Asked if he regrets his actions, he said, “I have no regrets for doing this.” “If given the test again, I will repeat same feat, without thinking twice, even though some of my colleagues term me a fool,” CSP Erhabor added.

“I even volunteered as an instructor, to train Police Mobile Personnel at Limakara, Gwoza, Borno State for over 3 years. Discharged my duty as an instructor, in the most harshest and difficult condition, without any commendation reward, or promotion, and today only for just working within the corridors of power; or being able to grease some palms or, as claimed, being attacked because of #EndSARS, Juniors will just be promoted above their superiors just like that.”

He said he feel hurt seeing his junior police officers promoted over him, insisting nothing had been done by the Force despite the formal complaints where he asked for the ratification of his promotion.

“I have witnessed my juniors get promoted over me over and over again, and it hurts deeply. I filed a complaint, asked for ratification of my promotion date, and was even investigated, with the outcome verified in my favour, yet nothing has been done to remedy the situation.”

‘I have wasted 30 years serving my fatherland’

CSP Francis Erhabor said he feels he has wasted 30 years of his precious time serving his ‘fatherland’, in a police profession he once believed to be a “noble” one.

According to Erhabor, rather, the system rewards mediocrity, nepotism, and all other ignoble acts and care less about those who tread on the path of dignity and honour.

“This profession I once called a noble one, doesn't care about those of us who tread the path of honour and dignity. I once had a dream about the the Nigeria Police Force, becoming the people's force; the country's pride. So sad, I no longer believe in the system as a noble one, but one were mediocrity, nepotism, and all other ignoble acts are given higher preference.

“I am sorry I let all my fans down. I am deeply sorry for not finishing where you all expected me to finish. Thanks for your strong and relentless faith in me. I remain forever grateful to you all,” CSP Erhabor added.
