“This number grows daily under an APC government that pursues brutal revenue-driven policies while ignoring the welfare of its people. Nigeria now ranks among the lowest in the world on human development indicators.

“This government taxes struggling citizens and small businesses heavily, while indulging in extravagance. Billions are spent on new presidential jets, yachts, and luxury cars that cost more than the entire 2024 budget for primary healthcare,” the former presidential candidated added.

A former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Prof. Bola Akinterinwa, has said President Bola Tinubu is as intelligent, cautious, and strategic as U.S. president Donald Trump, despite his absence from this year’s United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking, Akinterinwa argued that Tinubu’s decision not to attend should not be mistaken for weakness or lack of capacity on the global stage.

“At the end of the day, when you are seen to be at par with your colleagues, in which way are you going to say that Donald Trump is better than Bola Tinubu of Nigeria? He’s not. And I can tell you that Tinubu is as intelligent, if not more intelligent than Trump. He is more cautious and more strategic in his approach,” he said.

The former NIIA boss explained that in international relations, hierarchy shapes interactions among leaders, stressing that protocol often dictates who engages with whom at such forums.

Politics2027: Coalition Tells Atiku, Obi, Others To Declare Full Membership Of ADC by BlessedGift(op): 11:23am On Sep 26, 2025
The opposition coalition movement has called on prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, to resign their membership of their current parties and declare full allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The directive followed a closed-door strategy meeting convened on Thursday by the interim National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, as part of efforts to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a significant shift, the coalition also announced the suspension of ongoing processes for the registration of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), opting instead to consolidate under the ADC platform.

According to ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi, all members of the coalition resolved to rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.

“We have agreed to put aside our individual party interests and work collectively under the ADC umbrella. All members are expected to resign from their current parties and register fully as ADC members. More importantly, we are committed to supporting whoever wins the presidential primary as our consensus candidate,” Abdullahi said.

The people of Palestine are not collateral damage in a civilisation searching for order, they are human beings, equal in worth, entitled to the same freedoms and dignities that the rest of us take for granted

We do not believe that the sanctity of human life should be trapped in the corridors of endless debate. That is why we say, without stuttering and without doubt, that a two-state solution remains the most dignified path to lasting peace for the people of Palestine. For too long, this community has borne the weight of moral conflict. For too long, we have been caught in the crossfire of violence that offends the conscience of humanity. We come not as partisans, but as peacemakers. We come as brothers and sisters of a shared world, a world that must never reduce the right to live into the currency of devious politics. The people of Palestine are not collateral damage in a civilisation searching for order. They are human beings, equal in worth, entitled to the same freedoms and dignities that the rest of us take for granted.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday summoned the immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing scrutiny of the state’s finances during the six-month emergency rule.

Ibas, who arrived at Aso Rock around 5:50 p.m. dressed in brown traditional attire, was joined at the meeting by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Edun had entered the villa earlier but briefly left, returning moments later with a file in hand — a move that signalled the gravity of the discussions behind closed doors.

The retired naval chief was appointed sole administrator of Rivers State in March 2025 after President Tinubu declared emergency rule following months of political turmoil. His tenure ended on September 17, when the President directed the suspended Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly to resume their duties.

One of the first decisions taken by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly after returning to work was to launch an investigation into the state’s finances under Ibas. The lawmakers resolved “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the award of contracts and other expenditures.”

Ibas has openly rejected the decision to probe his administration’s financial activities.

PoliticsYorubas Will Occupy Topmost Places In My Government Not Hausa-Fulani - Atiku by BlessedGift(op): 4:22pm On Sep 24, 2025
Former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has assured that the Yoruba people will hold prominent positions in his government if elected President in 2027, dismissing fears of a Hausa-Fulani domination.

Atiku, who is married to a Yoruba woman, described the Yoruba ethnic group as “one of the finest species of humanity” and emphasized the deep personal and familial ties he shares with them.

“It is also for this reason that the interest of the Yoruba will always occupy a topmost place in my policy making and governance if by the special Grace of Allah, I am lucky to be president in 2027.

“Therefore, the fear that my ascension to Presidency might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination over Yoruba or other ethic group does not only arise, but also absolutely unfounded because the entire Yoruba stock are my larger extended family and In-laws.

“It is for this reason that I count myself extremely lucky to have a wife from amongst this noble specie of the human race,” Atiku said in a statement issued by his media consultant, Kola Johnson. “The bond uniting me with the Yoruba is like the genetic bond of a family, and this is why the Yoruba, whether individually or collectively, have always occupied a special place in my heart.”

The former vice president highlighted that his first wife, Titi Atiku Abubakar, is from Ijesa in Osun State, and they have four Yoruba children together. “She is now over 75 years old, and we are still together. My children with Titi sometimes call me Baba Rere, meaning ‘good father.’”

Atiku further dismissed suggestions that his presidency would lead to northern domination.
“The fear that my ascension to the presidency might lead to Hausa-Fulani domination over Yoruba or other ethnic groups does not arise. The Yoruba are my larger extended family and in-laws,” he said.

Praising the Yoruba for their sophistication and educational advancement, Atiku said: “Yoruba are so sophisticated and highly educated that you can only toy with them at your own peril. My Ijesa-born Yoruba wife is more than a wife to me — she is my jewel of inestimable value.”

He added that Yoruba people have consistently ranked among his closest friends and associates, both in private and public life.

Port Harcourt was the focus of national attention on Thursday as Governor Siminalayi Fubara prepared to return to office following a six-month suspension that saw governance in the state interrupted under emergency rule. His reinstatement, authorised by President Bola Tinubu, has triggered both celebrations among residents and a formal resumption of state institutions.

Crowds of supporters gathered across Port Harcourt from as early as 7 a.m., filling roads leading to the Government House, the State Secretariat, and adjoining streets. Masquerades, musicians, and entertainers performed as residents expressed relief at the governor’s return. Some moved on to the Port Harcourt International Airport to await his arrival.

“This is a new dawn for Rivers State,” said one supporter near the Brick House, where political figures also arrived to cheers from their followers.

The governor’s absence coincided with a period of political unrest that prompted the Federal Government to impose emergency rule. PoliticsStatement By Tinubu On The Cessation Of The State Of Emergency In Rivers State by BlessedGift(op): 5:05pm On Sep 17, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally lifted the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State, declaring that democratic governance will resume in the oil-rich state from Wednesday, September 18.

In a national broadcast on Tuesday, the President said the six-month suspension of the Governor, Deputy Governor, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly had “achieved its purpose” of averting anarchy and restoring stability.

Tinubu recalled that the emergency rule was declared on March 18, 2025, following what he described as a “total paralysis of governance” in the state. The deep political rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the House of Assembly had stalled budget passage, disrupted governance, and fuelled insecurity, including vandalism of vital oil pipelines.

“The Supreme Court itself had held that there was effectively no government in Rivers State,” Tinubu said, adding that efforts by his office and other mediators to reconcile the warring factions had failed, making the constitutional intervention unavoidable.

https://voicenews.com.ng/tinubu-ends-state-of-emergency-in-rivers-restores-governor-and-assembly/

STATEMENT BY HIS EXCELLENCY, BOLA AHMED TINUBU, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, ON THE CESSATION OF THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE

My fellow countrymen, and in particular, the good people of Rivers State,

I am pleased to address you today on the matter of the state of emergency in Rivers State. You will recall that on 18th March 2025, I proclaimed a state of emergency in the State. In my proclamation address, I set out clearly the reasons for that decision.

In summary, governance in Rivers State had ground to a halt. The Governor and the State House of Assembly could not work together. Vital economic assets, including oil pipelines, were being vandalised. The House of Assembly was deeply divided, with four members working with the Governor while twenty-seven opposed him, backing the Speaker. This paralysis made it impossible for the Governor to present an Appropriation Bill, thereby cutting off access to funds needed to run the State’s affairs.

The situation deteriorated to the point where the Supreme Court, in one of its judgments, declared that effectively there was no government in Rivers State. Despite my personal intervention, and that of other well-meaning Nigerians, all efforts at reconciliation failed as both sides held rigidly to their positions, to the detriment of peace, order, and development.

Faced with the imminent drift into anarchy, I was left with no choice but to invoke the powers conferred on me by Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to proclaim a state of emergency. Consequently, the Offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor, and members of the House of Assembly were suspended for six months in the first instance. That period expires today, 17th September 2025.

I thank the National Assembly for swiftly approving the proclamation, in line with constitutional requirements, and for acting in the overall interest of peace and stability. I also express my deep appreciation to the traditional rulers and the people of Rivers State for their patience, resilience, and cooperation during this period.

I am aware that some Nigerians challenged the declaration in courts across Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Yenagoa, with more than 40 cases filed. This is a healthy expression of our democracy. Yet, it bears repeating that the state of emergency is a constitutional mechanism designed to restore public order and safeguard democracy when governance collapses. By every objective measure, Rivers State had reached that point. It would have been an abdication of responsibility for me not to act.

As a firm believer in democratic governance, I know that harmony between the executive and legislature is indispensable to stability and development. Our people expect results, not endless conflict. The dividends of democracy cannot flourish in an atmosphere poisoned by violence, insecurity, and reckless political brinkmanship.

Today, I am encouraged by reports of a new spirit of understanding among stakeholders in Rivers State, a readiness to work together, and a commitment to rebuild democratic governance. This is a positive and welcome development. In view of this, there is no justification for extending the state of emergency beyond the six months originally proclaimed.

It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the state of emergency in Rivers State shall cease with effect from midnight today. Accordingly, the Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, shall resume their constitutional responsibilities on 18th September 2025.

I use this moment to remind all Governors and State Assemblies across Nigeria that it is only in an atmosphere of peace, order, and good governance that democracy can thrive and our citizens can enjoy its full benefits. Let this truth guide your actions at all times.

I thank you all.

Long live Rivers State.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

SportsEquatorial Guinea’s Points Deduction Revives Nigeria’s World Cup Dream by BlessedGift(op): 7:45am On Sep 16, 2025
Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been handed a lifeline after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld FIFA’s decision to deduct six points from Equatorial Guinea for fielding an ineligible player.

The punishment stemmed from Equatorial Guinea’s use of striker Emilio Nsue, who had not received the required clearance to switch international allegiance from Spain, despite representing the country for over a decade. Nsue scored decisive goals in 1-0 victories against Namibia and Liberia last November, but FIFA annulled those results, awarding 3-0 technical wins to the opponents.

Equatorial Guinea’s appeal to CAS was dismissed, cementing the sanction and dramatically reshaping Group H standings. The team dropped from second place with 16 points to fifth with 10, elevating Namibia to second with 15 points and tightening the battle for qualification spots.

For Nigeria, the ruling could prove decisive. The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C with 11 points, trailing leaders South Africa (17) and Benin (14). With four best runners-up across Africa’s nine qualifying groups advancing to the inter-confederation play-offs, the door has swung open for Nigeria to make a late surge.

The current runners-up race is fierce, with Gabon leading on 19 points, followed by Madagascar and DR Congo (16 each), then Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Namibia and Uganda all on 15, with Benin on 14. Nigeria must break into the top four of this ranking to stand a chance.

"In just a few hours, this same pot will be home to thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making," she added,
In an accompanying video, the chef was seen inside the custom-fabricated pot as she scrubbed its interior.

“I know you’re probably about to pop your eyeballs out. Why is she inside the pot?” she said jokingly.

"The reason I'm inside the pot at this moment is because I need to wash the pot.

"I can assure you that once I am done washing the interior of the pot and I've gotten rid of all the liquid, I'm going to rinse it again, and I have brand new mopsticks that I would be using to clean it once again before we use it to cook for you."

Baci promised that the pot would be fully sanitised before the cooking began and pledged to serve “the most amazing, hygienic food you’ve ever eaten.”

The free event, organised in partnership with seasoning brand Gino, is expected to draw more than 20,000 people as Baci attempts to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.

Baci made headlines in May 2023 after completing a 100-hour cooking marathon in Lagos, a feat that earned her global recognition through the Guinness World Records.

“Nigerians as a whole know that the David Mark-led faction of the ADC is on borrowed time.

“What we saw from the INEC chairman yesterday was another irresponsible act from the outgoing chairman of INEC,” he stated
