Speaking George said Lamido must first explore the party’s internal dispute resolution processes before seeking redress in court.

The PDP chieftain also said Lamido has every right to contest for the party’s national chairmanship position.

“The fact that those leaders converged and supported one individual as a consensus candidate doesn’t mean others can’t contest,” George said.

“You want to make the process seamless. It’s an internal dynamic. We have done this before, but the party has never stopped anyone from contesting.

“My friend Sule Lamido has the right to compete. He can go and get the form, fill it, and follow the normal process to appear on the day of the convention. We will vote.

“But before you take the party to court, you must exhaust the internal dynamics of the party. If you fail to do that, you can be punished.

“So, he (Lamido) is exercising his rights, but if he goes to court for this, he can be punished.”

“Let him go; nobody will deny him any form, and he can compete. The final decision will be by delegates attending the convention, and it will be done openly.”

George emphasised that the PDP constitution provides for internal conflict resolution procedures that all members must respect to maintain discipline within the party.

His comments followed Lamido’s claim that top PDP officials are obstructing his attempt to purchase nomination forms for the chairmanship race.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has described as very embarrassing the resignation of Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Recall that the governor was chairing the PDP zoning committee for the elective national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, when he quit the party.

Speaking during a media chat on Friday in Abuja, Wike said Diri’s decision to leave the PDP was disappointing.

“It is very embarrassing. The governor was the chairman of the convention committee. Diri was the chairman of the zoning committee. Even though I knew from the beginning that they were all playing games,” he said.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday summoned the immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing scrutiny of the state’s finances during the six-month emergency rule.

Ibas, who arrived at Aso Rock around 5:50 p.m. dressed in brown traditional attire, was joined at the meeting by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Edun had entered the villa earlier but briefly left, returning moments later with a file in hand — a move that signalled the gravity of the discussions behind closed doors.

The retired naval chief was appointed sole administrator of Rivers State in March 2025 after President Tinubu declared emergency rule following months of political turmoil. His tenure ended on September 17, when the President directed the suspended Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly to resume their duties.

One of the first decisions taken by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly after returning to work was to launch an investigation into the state’s finances under Ibas. The lawmakers resolved “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the Consolidated Revenue Fund for the award of contracts and other expenditures.”

Ibas has openly rejected the decision to probe his administration’s financial activities.
