The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three dispatch riders in Abuja for distributing illicit drugs, as part of a nationwide crackdown that also uncovered smuggling operations through airports, markets, and border towns. The riders—Sabo Sule (24), Samuel Nnamdi (28), and Idris Jibrin (28)—were nabbed during intelligence-led operations in Gwarimpa, Jahi, and Galadimawa. They were caught with 149.8 grams of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in motorcycle courier bags. In a separate operation, NDLEA officers at the Lagos airport intercepted cocaine and tramadol hidden in 71 vehicle side mirrors destined for Gabon, leading to the arrest of at least three suspects, including popular cargo agent Ihekweme Osinachi Benedict. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), commended the agency’s operatives for their vigilance and warned traffickers against exploiting logistics services and concealment tactics to evade detection. https://voicenews.com.ng/ndlea-nabs-dispatch-riders-delivering-illicit-drugs-in-abuja/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFn2_F2I5U4 Opposition’s arithmetic is faulty and cannot override APC’s political base Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, says opposition arrowhead, Peter Obi cannot penetrate northern Nigeria and garner votes like the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu. Keyamo made this statement on Sunday, when he appeared on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television. According to him, Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have political structures in place in northern Nigeria. The Aviation Minister further blasted the opposition coalition floated on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying it won’t go far. Keyamo, who said the oppositions are not going anywhere in terms of democracy, added that they are putting the APC on its toes to enable them to work better. “If you put Peter Obi this time as president, he cannot penetrate the north. We have our structures in the north. We have governors and our structures in the North,” he stated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZb_Xbn8fHs Rufai said, “One of the major criteria was to find a political party that is not driven by religion, ethnicity, or regional sentiment. For two years, they searched, and in all honesty, the only party that met this standard was the ADC. The ADC is not a northern party. It is not a southern party. It is not a Muslim or Christian party. The ADC is a party for ordinary Nigerians — for all Nigerians.

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has expressed optimism that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will field a formidable presidential candidate capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Abuja, Melaye described the ADC as a “national altar call,” urging Nigerians to reassess the party’s relevance in shaping the country’s political future. According to him, those aligning with the ADC are driven by conscience and a deep commitment to transformative change. “Those of us in the ADC must create a stable and accommodating platform,” he stated. “I believe this platform will produce a presidential candidate who will unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.” Melaye emphasized that internal party coherence and transparency are prerequisites to achieving that goal. “I’ve made it a point of duty not to endorse any aspirant until we conduct a transparent, credible convention that produces the right candidate to lead the charge,” he said. However, critics and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore, have dismissed the coalition’s strength. https://voicenews.com.ng/adc-will-present-candidate-to-unseat-tinubu-in-2027-dino-melaye/

A member of the opposition coalition, Salihu Lukman, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for “rewarding” governors, who largely mismanage and divert public resources for personal use. Recall that on Tuesday, the United States Embassy in Nigeria revealed a report on how Nigerian governors splurge billions on renovating government houses despite the economic hardship in the country, occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy. “Such alleged lack of fiscal responsibility fuels inequality and erodes public trust,” the embassy stated. Economists and analysts have attributed the harsh economic realities to the government’s twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and unification of the foreign exchange windows. According to him, the 23 APC governors, and their opposition counterparts in 13 states, have become arrogant and unaccountable to the people because they control party structures. “Once we have a system where the structure of the party is subordinated to them, they will continue with this arrogance, and continue to be unaccountable and convert public resources as if it is their personal property.” The former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) added that the Tinubu administration has been more focused on admitting opposition governors to the APC without any structure of accountability to the people who elected them. https://voicenews.com.ng/tinubu-continues-to-reward-govs-with-hefty-allocations-despite-mismanaging-public-resources-lukman/

Five people lost their lives and five others were injured in two separate road accidents that occurred along the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Thursday, prompting renewed calls for safer driving practices. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the first crash happened in the early hours of the day at Abijo Bus Stop, inward Epe, when a Mitsubishi pick-up van (AKD 733 JM), reportedly at high speed, lost control and rammed into a stationary Craneburg Construction Company vehicle. The collision claimed the lives of four occupants—three men and one woman—whose bodies were recovered at the scene. LASTMA operatives also rescued three additional female passengers from the wreckage and transferred them to police authorities at Eleko Division, who ensured they received urgent medical care. A second accident occurred overnight in the Frajend Group area near Bogije, involving a Toyota Escort SUV that also crashed at high speed into a parked Dangote truck. The SUV driver died on the spot, while two seriously injured passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle before being rescued by LASTMA officers. Spokesperson for LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the details, while quoting the agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who expressed deep sorrow over what he described as "colossal and avoidable tragedies." https://voicenews.com.ng/5-dead-5-injured-in-speed-related-crashes-on-lekki-epe-expressway/

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as President Bola Tinubu’s detachment from the harsh realities of Nigeria’s security situation, accusing state governors of feeding him false narratives. The party, which serves as the platform for the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, stated that insecurity remains widespread across the country despite claims by the current administration that the situation has improved. Speaking on a national current affairs programme, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi urged the President to leave the comfort of Aso Villa and engage directly with ordinary Nigerians to understand the true depth of insecurity plaguing the nation. “I actually think President Tinubu needs to leave the Villa, go on the streets, and talk to people,” Abdullahi said. “He should stop listening to narratives suggesting that insecurity has been degraded, and stop relying on state governors who are more interested in currying favour than telling him the truth.” Abdullahi’s comments were in response to presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, who earlier claimed that security has significantly improved under President Tinubu’s leadership. Bwala cited reduced violence in Benue and Plateau states and a decline in IPOB-related incidents as indicators of progress. “Insecurity has been degraded to a large extent,” Bwala said. “What we are seeing in Nigeria now are criminal activities that occur everywhere in the world and are not necessarily tied to governance.” But the ADC disagrees. “I feel sorry for President Tinubu,” Abdullahi countered. “If this is the kind of narrative he hears all the time, then it’s clear he is living in a bubble.” The party decried the ongoing violence and criminality in several regions, insisting that many parts of the country remain under siege and urging the government to take more decisive, people-focused action. https://voicenews.com.ng/adc-to-tinubu-step-out-of-the-villa-and-face-reality-on-insecurity/

…Peter Obi never arrested El-Rufai Political activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s warning to the former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi not to enter his state without prior notice to him. Earlier, Governor Okpebholo, defended his remarks on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, amid mounting backlash from human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), the African Democratic Congress and the Obidient Movement, among others. Recall that the governor stirred controversy after warning that Obi must obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State, a statement critics described as a direct threat to Obi’s life and a dangerous precedent for democracy. While Falana urged Obi to take legal action over what he termed an “illegal threat,” ADC and Obidient Movement leader, Dr Yunusa Tanko, accused Okpebholo of intimidation and spreading falsehoods. The Edo State government has insisted that the governor’s comments at a rally were misinterpreted, stressing that his call was a security protocol and not hostility toward the opposition leader. Speaking on a televised programme monitored by Voicenews, Yesufu said, “I don’t know what gives Governor Okpebholo the audacity that he can give security clearances for any Nigerian to be able to come to Edo State. Edo State is not his family estate. Yes, he currently might be the one governing the state, but he doesn’t have the right to give anybody clearance to be anywhere,” she added. https://voicenews.com.ng/aisha-yesufu-reacts-to-edo-state-governors-comment-on-peter-obis-visit/
