The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as President Bola Tinubu’s detachment from the harsh realities of Nigeria’s security situation, accusing state governors of feeding him false narratives.

The party, which serves as the platform for the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, stated that insecurity remains widespread across the country despite claims by the current administration that the situation has improved.

Speaking on a national current affairs programme, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi urged the President to leave the comfort of Aso Villa and engage directly with ordinary Nigerians to understand the true depth of insecurity plaguing the nation.

“I actually think President Tinubu needs to leave the Villa, go on the streets, and talk to people,” Abdullahi said. “He should stop listening to narratives suggesting that insecurity has been degraded, and stop relying on state governors who are more interested in currying favour than telling him the truth.”

Abdullahi’s comments were in response to presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, who earlier claimed that security has significantly improved under President Tinubu’s leadership. Bwala cited reduced violence in Benue and Plateau states and a decline in IPOB-related incidents as indicators of progress.

“Insecurity has been degraded to a large extent,” Bwala said. “What we are seeing in Nigeria now are criminal activities that occur everywhere in the world and are not necessarily tied to governance.”

But the ADC disagrees. “I feel sorry for President Tinubu,” Abdullahi countered. “If this is the kind of narrative he hears all the time, then it’s clear he is living in a bubble.”

The party decried the ongoing violence and criminality in several regions, insisting that many parts of the country remain under siege and urging the government to take more decisive, people-focused action.

Former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has  said President Tinubu should have personally debunked the rumour suggesting plans to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 election, if it was truly a 'non-issue'.

Voicenews reports that rumours have circulated about an alleged plot to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Tinubu’s running mate in 2027 although election is still two years away.

Recall that at the height of the speculation, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had dismissed the claim as a ‘non-issue,’ stating that President Tinubu would choose his running mate only after accepting the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman and renowned businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, describing him as a man who was generous and committed to the great value of Nigeria.

During the visit in Kano, Tinubu said his presence was not just official, but a deeply personal gesture of respect and sorrow for the loss of a man who meant so much to his family and the nation at large.

“Our sisters and brothers, this is a personal commitment for me, that I should be here to condole with you as the Dantata family members and the entire state of Kano. All our honourable members, I want to thank you for showing up gracefully and honourably. I know what you did for him,” he said.

The office of Vice President Kashim Shettima confirmed Mr Daura’s ill health in a statement while providing information on the vice president’s trip to London.

Mr Shettima, at President Bola Tinubu’s request, led a Nigerian delegation to London to bring back Mr Buhari’s body.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

“The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital,” the VP’s office noted.

“The condolence visits were conducted while the vice president awaits the conclusion of procedures and documentation for the repatriation of former President Buhari’s body to Nigeria.

“Vice President Shettima is accompanied by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.”
