PoliticsTinubu Praises Nigeria’s Armed Forces At TICAD9 by BlessedGift(op): 3:00pm On Aug 20, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their resilience in the fight against insurgency and criminality, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity through stronger institutions and economic reforms.

Speaking during the plenary session on Peace and Stability at the ongoing 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, Tinubu said Nigeria’s inclusivity, diversity, and respect for the rule of law remain the country’s greatest strengths.

“Our brave armed forces can win any number of battles, but we do justice to their heroism only when we, as government, are courageous in tackling not just terror, but also the underlying causes,” Tinubu declared. He described the current momentum in the armed forces as a “springboard for national development and stability.”

The President also stressed that peace and stability are indispensable for Africa’s development, citing recent peace agreements in the Democratic Republic of Congo as proof that mediation linked to investment can deliver sustainable outcomes. He urged African leaders to adopt “fresh thinking” in addressing conflicts and called for market-driven cooperation rather than aid dependency.

Tinubu further renewed Nigeria’s call for reforms of the United Nations Security Council to give Africa greater representation. “Africa deserves two seats in the Permanent Category, with all prerogatives including the Right of Veto,” he said, citing the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

TravelNCAA Bans Use Of Airplane Mode, Orders Phones Switched Off During Take-off by BlessedGift(op): 8:17pm On Aug 19, 2025
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered that all mobile phones and portable electronic devices must now be completely switched off during flight take-off and landing, ending the long-standing practice of allowing passengers to place devices on “flight mode.”

The Director General of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, announced the directive on Tuesday at the National Civil Aviation Security Committee Meeting in Abuja.

“All mobile phones, I repeat, all mobile phones and other portable electronic devices should be switched off during at least the critical phase of flight on all Nigerian airlines. Switched off,” Najomo declared.

Rejecting the use of flight mode, he added: “There’s nothing like flight mode any longer. Mobile devices must be switched off. Nigerian air operators are therefore required to amend their operations manuals to reflect this requirement and submit to the NCAA for approval.”

The directive is part of wider measures to improve aviation safety and curb unruly passenger behaviour across Nigeria’s airports.

PoliticsDon't Waste Your Time To Contest In 2027, Shehu Sani Tells Jonathan (video) by BlessedGift(op): 4:58pm On Aug 18, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f94ed6Jrg9w

Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan not to recontest for presidency in the 2027 election.

Sani said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party Jonathan used to win the election in 2011, is no longer united.

The ex-federal lawmaker said, “Each time there is an election, the name of Jonathan comes up, but it is his volition to contest, but I advise him not to do that. The reason is very simple: the PDP he used to know is not the PDP now.

“The PDP in the South-West is endorsing the president. Some members of the party are in the coalition. So, it is the party he used to know so he shouldn’t waste his time.”

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State, has spoken about his encounter with operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Anti-graft agency had detained the former governor in Abuja over alleged fraudulent withdrawal of cash to the tune of N189 billion.

Addressing his supporters upon his return to Sokoto on Thursday, Tambuwal revealed that he was first invited by EFCC, stating that he went voluntarily to their office on August 6.

According to him, after initial rounds of questioning, the anti-graft agency allowed him to go but he was asked to report back on August 10 and 11 for further questioning.

He said after hours of interrogation during the follow-up visit, his legal team requested that he should be allowed to return home but the EFCC officials insisted that he must produce two sureties.
PoliticsNigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops To 21.88% In July – NBS by BlessedGift(op): 5:08pm On Aug 15, 2025
Nigeria’s annual inflation rate eased slightly to 21.88 percent in July 2025 from 22.22 percent recorded in June, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The figures show a 0.34 percentage point decline in the headline inflation rate month-on-month, indicating a slower pace of price increases, though costs for goods and services remain high.

On a year-on-year basis, the July 2025 rate was 11.52 percentage points lower than the 33.40 percent recorded in July 2024, a decline largely attributed to the bureau’s change in statistical base year to November 2009 = 100.

Food Inflation Still Pressures Households

Food prices — which account for the largest share of Nigeria’s inflation basket — rose by 22.74 percent in July on a year-on-year basis, down from 39.53 percent in July 2024. The NBS said the drop was mainly due to the change in the base year rather than a significant fall in actual food costs.

Month-on-month, food inflation stood at 3.12 percent, a marginal decline from 3.25 percent in June. The slowdown was linked to lower prices of vegetable oil, beans, local rice, maize flour, sorghum, wheat flour, and millet.

Borno State recorded the highest year-on-year food inflation at 55.56 percent, followed by Osun (29.10 percent) and Ebonyi (29.06 percent). Katsina (6.61 percent), Adamawa (9.90 percent), and Zamfara (14.72 percent) had the lowest increases.

On a month-on-month basis, Borno (10.89 percent), Kano (10.86 percent), and Sokoto (7.43 percent) experienced the steepest rises, while Zamfara (-6.00 percent), Bauchi (-2.18 percent), and Abia (-1.06 percent) saw declines.

TravelFG Drops Complaints In KWAM 1, Comfort Emmanson Airport Misconduct Cases by BlessedGift(op): 8:37am On Aug 13, 2025
The Federal Government has withdrawn criminal complaints in two recent high-profile cases of alleged unruly behaviour at Nigerian airports, citing consultations with aviation stakeholders and remorse expressed by the accused.

The decision affects incidents involving Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) and Ms. Comfort Emmanson. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has also agreed to lift the lifetime flying ban it had imposed on Ms. Emmanson.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development said the move was made on compassionate grounds after reviewing the circumstances.

In Ms. Emmanson’s case, she was accused of disruptive behaviour aboard an Ibom Air flight on 10 August 2025. The airline has agreed to withdraw its complaint. Following a police interview—attended by her lawyer—where she expressed deep remorse, she will be released from Kirikiri Prisons this week after formalities are concluded.

For KWAM 1, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reduce his flight ban to one month and withdraw its police complaint. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also appoint him as an ambassador for airport security protocol.

Additionally, the licences of ValueJet’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, linked to the KWAM 1 incident, will be restored after a one-month suspension and mandatory professional reappraisal.

Looking ahead, the Minister has directed all relevant aviation agencies to hold a security retreat next week to retrain personnel on handling disruptive passengers and defusing tense situations. Airlines will also review staff conduct towards travellers.

TravelWikipedia Lists Owolabi Salis As First Nigerian Astronaut by BlessedGift(op): 1:05am On Aug 13, 2025
Wikipedia has officially recognised U.S.-based Nigerian lawyer and finance expert, Chief Owolabi Salis, as the first Nigerian to travel to outer space, following confirmation by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI).

The FAI, the global body responsible for certifying aviation and spaceflight records, defines space travel as any flight exceeding 100 kilometres (62 miles) above sea level. Individuals who cross this threshold are awarded Astronaut Wings.

Salis earned his place on the exclusive list after participating in Blue Origin’s NS-33 mission on June 29, 2025. The spacecraft, launched from West Texas, reached an altitude of approximately 105 km, crossing the internationally recognised Kármán Line. He was listed as number 702 among all officially acknowledged space travellers in history — a group that includes just over 720 individuals.

In his reaction, Salis described the recognition as “immensely gladdening,” noting that out of the estimated 117 billion people who have lived on Earth over five billion years, only a handful have ventured into space.

The NS-33 crew included Allie Kuehner, Carl Kuehner, Leland Larson, Freddie Rescigno Jr., and Jim Sitkin. Salis, who is also the founder of Soul Makers Ministry Worldwide, described the mission as “spiritually rewarding.”

Plans are underway for a monument in Salis’ honour, spearheaded by renowned U.S. sculptor Steve N. Barber. The monument, expected to last over 1,000 years, will feature inspirational inscriptions and is scheduled for unveiling on July 4, 2026 in the United States before being transported to Salis’ birthplace in Nigeria.

TravelAON Bans Ibom Air Passenger For Life Over Violent In-flight Assault by BlessedGift(op): 6:54pm On Aug 11, 2025
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime no-fly ban on Ms. Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, after a violent incident aboard flight Q9 303 from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.

AON spokesperson, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, announced the sanction on Monday, following a review of Ibom Air’s detailed incident report. He commended the airline for its swift and professional handling of the situation, endorsing the penalties already enforced.

According to the report, Ms. Emmanson initially refused to comply with safety instructions regarding mobile phone usage. The confrontation escalated into what Okonkwo described as a “brutal physical assault” on crew members. She allegedly attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon — an act he called “one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour in 2025.”

“This was not just disruptive; it was a sustained, violent attack that endangered crew, passengers, and the integrity of the aircraft. Such behaviour is unacceptable,” Okonkwo stated.

BusinessDangote Refinery Dismisses Shutdown Claims, Assures Nigerians Of Fuel Supply by BlessedGift(op): 11:07pm On Aug 08, 2025
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports of an operational shutdown, insisting that production and truck loading activities remain in full swing.

In a statement on Friday, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, said the refinery continues to operate at full capacity, supplying over 40 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and significant volumes of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) daily.

“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities,” the statement read.

The company explained that the intermittent sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) is part of normal business operations, often involving large parcel sales through public tenders.

As the world’s largest single-train petroleum refinery, Dangote said it employs predictive and preventive maintenance protocols that ensure uninterrupted operations, stressing that routine maintenance has no impact on fuel supply.

Reacting to fears of looming fuel scarcity or price hikes, the refinery challenged those spreading the rumours to “place immediate orders for up to 40 million litres of PMS daily and 15 million litres of AGO daily, for the next 90 days, with full upfront payment” if they truly expect a market disruption.

PoliticsADC Slams APC Over Premature Tinubu Re-election Campaign by BlessedGift(op): 9:26am On Aug 07, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fiercely criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as a “premature and illegal” re-election campaign in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the party of flouting the Electoral Act and mocking the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

In a statement signed by ADC spokesperson Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party condemned the ongoing political endorsements and billboards supporting a second term for Tinubu as a violation of INEC's regulations, which prohibit public campaign activity until 150 days before the 2027 general elections.

“From Abuja to Kano, choreographed endorsements and billboards have turned the streets into a premature campaign trail,” Abdullahi stated. “This is not just illegal—it’s a cruel mockery of citizens who are battling hunger, poverty, and insecurity.”

The ADC lambasted the APC for engaging in political theatrics rather than addressing Nigeria’s mounting socio-economic crises:

Inflation remains above 22%, pushing food and transport costs beyond the reach of most citizens.

The naira has collapsed from N461/$ to over N1,500/$ since early 2023.

Petrol prices have surged past N1,000 per litre post-subsidy, compounding the cost-of-living crisis.

National debt servicing now exceeds federal revenues, leaving critical sectors like health and education underfunded.

Politics'Conduct Your Investigations About Me; I Have No Stains' – Obi Tells Nigerians by BlessedGift(op): 9:15pm On Aug 05, 2025
Labour Party presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has restated his unwavering commitment to a single-term presidency, challenging Nigerians to scrutinize his political record and personal integrity.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor addressed growing debate over his vow to serve only one term of four years, if elected president in the future. Obi described the agitation surrounding his pledge as “baffling,” arguing that real change can be delivered within a 48-month mandate by a sincere leader.

"What drives me is not personal ambition, but a deep commitment to see Nigeria work. And if the sacrifice required of me is four years of sincere, accountable leadership, so be it," Obi stated.

He boldly invited critics and the public to investigate his political journey, asserting that no blemish would be found.

"I challenge anyone: conduct your investigations. You will find no stains of rigging or violence associated with my name. I have always chosen the path of peace, principle, and civility," he added.

Obi contrasted his political style with what he described as typical signs of desperation in politics—such as aggressive rhetoric, unrealistic promises, personal attacks, and political flip-flopping. He asserted that none of these apply to him.

“I have never been desperate in the pursuit of power, or anything else, for that matter,” he said.

Obi highlighted some of his past actions and positions as proof of his integrity, claiming he has never engaged in electoral malpractice or denied his opponents fair competition. He insisted that credible governance is possible within a single term.

"In four years we can confront corruption head-on, redirect funds from frivolous government spending to education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and ensure the rule of law is upheld."

“One moment, I was the darling of the banks, who did everything in the world to court me, do business with me, give me loans, take deposits from me,” he wrote. “They would send bewitching ladies to make their offers more convincing…”

However, the oil tycoon also reflects on how his fortunes turned during a devastating financial downturn. Citing massive losses from the global oil price crash, naira devaluation, accruing interest, and a stock market slump, Otedola revealed he lost over $1.2 billion in total.

“It was devastating, like a terrible nightmare… but a nightmare would have been better: day would break, and I would wake up. There was no waking up from this,” he wrote.

He recalled the dramatic shift from being wooed by banks to being hounded by debt collectors, saying he woke up to “hefty, barrel-chested men standing menacingly in front of my gate.”

Otedola’s business journey began with Zenon Petroleum and evolved into owning Forte Oil Plc after acquiring and rebranding African Petroleum. However, a major financial misstep in 2008 — ordering diesel at $147 per barrel which later crashed to $40 — triggered a debt spiral worsened by Nigeria’s foreign exchange crisis.
