Seeking and gaining admission to any university in Nigeria is a work itself. The struggle begins the day you started writing your O'LEVEL exams. Some will registered for the two examination the same year while others will make sure they pass their O'LEVEL before writing JAMB. The steps involved in gaining admission to Nigerian Universities or polytechnic starts from writing and passing your O'LEVEL exams, writing and meeting the cut off in your Jamb and finally the school exam plus some little connections if you have it. This article is written as a guide for this year Jambite. I don't want some of you to make the mistake some of us made. Ensure you study and apply them. O'LEVEL requirement: I decided to start this article with this point. The O'LEVEL requirement of every school differs in term of; 1)No of sittings: Schools such as OAU accepts two sittings while UNILAG accepts only one sitting. 2)O'LEVEL Credit: Some schools accept agricultural science as a substitute for biology while some don't .. Please refer to JAMB brochure for more on this. JAMB cut-off: Cut off varies in schools and departments. Courses such as Medicine, law, engineering always require high cutoff while courses in management and art requires lower cut off. You can use Google to check the previous cut off mark of that course you choose to study. COMPETITION: Yearly, schools such as OAU, UI, UNILORIN, ABU, UNILAG, UNN, have higher number of applicants while schools in the north east have lower applicants. If you have the liver and you're looking for low competitive schools, you can choose from schools in the north east. Calender Some public school calender run as fast as our private school calender while some will be as slow as snail due to some internal crises. In the time past, schools such as LAUTECH and OAU are the best in these but now, they're good to go. Strike. This is one of the greatest setback anybody can encounter in Nigerian Universities. Strikes ranges from ASUU, NASU, SSANU, SUG, student protest, midterm break etc. A friend of mine secure admission to study 4 years in one of our state universities since 2012,he's still in 400level in 2019. Ensure you do your background research about the school before applying so as not to regret. Nearness to family Yes, you heard me right. This is part of the thing you considered. Imagine you schooling in maiduguri while your family lives in Lagos. Only transportation to and fro will discourage you from traveling. Imagine you're given 2 weeks holiday, you might not be able to visit your family due to distance. Also consider the risks involve when you are travelling. Region: This should be another point of consideration. Some people that were born and brought in the south might not find it easy to cope in the north because of the differences in weather.. Course duration: Courses such as engineering, environmental span for 5 years while most of the management courses can be studied within 4years. Although it's better to go for what you're passionate about but if you don't have all the time on your side, why not go for 4years course. Management: Avoid schools that have unresolved management issues. Let's use Lautech as a case study, the management tussle between Osun and Oyo state leads to many unsolicited strike in the institution. Remember this saying that where two elephants fights, it's the grass that suffer. Course accreditation. This is the most important point to consider before applying for that course in your preferred institution. This has leaded to depression for many students. Some will only discovered that the course they're studying is not accredited in their final year. Please study your JAMB brochure thoroughly. |

Truth be told, what our senators did on Tuesday is a show of shame. I pitch no tent with any party but we need to grow. |

ariesbull:You're neither an engineer or a technologist until you're certified as one by the regulatory bodies. As a fresh graduate with little or no experience, you can register in the graduate category with NSE. Same goes to an HND holder, you can register with NATE as a grad technologist. In the hierarchy of engineering, engineers needs technologist to survive, the technologist needs technician to survive and so on. My point is, don't try to make anyone feel inferior because of their qualifications. Qualifications don't make you, you made yourself. Your level of development and research will determine how far you'll go in the engineering sector. The problem we have in this country is because we value certificate more than the what we can offer. Most of the whites coming to install engines in Nigeria are mere technicians in their countries and you'll be seeing how our so call professor will be saying yes sir to all they say. I wept for the engineering sector in Nigeria ... |
I think the reason why APC conducted direct primary is to know the number of vote they should be expecting from their own party in the next general election.... |
As Nigerians celebrate the 58th independence today, the president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari address the country in a nationwide broadcast. However there are pressing issues Nigerians expected President Buhari to address, but he was silent about them, creating doubts and fears in the minds of many, especially civil servant's. Incase you missed the speech, click here to read it. Minimum wage Following the warning strike organized by NLC to demand increment in minimum wages on 28th of September, the president didn't speak about the issue. Although the strike may be suspended but the president refuses to shed light on it whether there will be increment or not. Education Education is the backbone of every developed nation, the president failed to address the issue lingering in our education system. Next General Election As the country prepares for his next general election, the president refuses to mention the plan he has for the election. Consequently, he failed to commend/Condemn the INEC and security forces for their roles in the previous elections conducted so far.. These are part of my observations in the president speech.. Social media is one of the greatest source of distraction in this 21st century. According to research, every social media user spends an average of 2hrs on social media daily. Among all, Facebook and Instagram have the highest usage. Only 10% of users uses the app for business purposes while others uses it for some things. Before writing this post, I analyze myself and discover that I'm spending an average of 6hrs daily on social media. If I'm to calculate this by a year, it is approximately 2190hours which is 19days in a year. I'm not against the usage of social media if you're using it to make money but it doesn't speak well if you're spending five unproductive hours on social media daily. Now to the point, how to kill your addiction Delete your social media app This may sound weird to some people especially girls that cannot live their lives outside social media. You will not die if you do that They may be asking themselves, why should I delete my social media app? But wait let me tell you, those unproductive time you're wasting to recieve likes and comments on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter can be Channelled to a productive one. You can use it to sell your goods and the rest. Deleting the app for 2-3weeks will make you to loose interest in them. Hide your social media If you feel you can't delete your social media, you can hide them during the working hour. This is the trick I used in killing my addiction to social media. After my morning devotion, I'll check my whatsapp messages and immediately I'll hide all my social media app. I Will only decrypt them when I'm done working for the day. You can use apps like X-hide and lot more. If you don't have any app to do this, follow the steps below... Step1 Goto Google play service Step 2 Type "App hider" in the search box Step 3 A lot of suggestions will pop up, choose the one with the highest rating say 5 star Step 4 Install and use accordingly Delete your social media account There's a saying that "Nothing good comes easily" Addiction is something that may damage your productive time thereby reflecting in your future. If you want to battle with this, it doesn't cost you anything if you delete your account. If you are not doing something useful with it, use this remedy to kill your addiction. The main social media account that can help your ministry is LinkedIn. Hide your phone during working hour Another way of doing this is by keeping your phone away from you during the day. If you can take your mind far from something for a long period, you'll soon loose interest in it.

The election might had come and gone but the impact toward the Nigeria and the world at large will not be forgotten soon. Fountain of knowledge as it was formerly called is a state blessed with a lot of elites. It is among the top 5 states with the highest number of professors in Nigeria. The election was free and fair but money influence most of the voters to vote for or against their wishes. It's worthy to note that Ekiti State was created on 1/10/1996. These are some of the facts you might not know about the state and it elections Ruled by highest number of governors( : Between 1999 to 2018,ekiti state has been ruled by 8 different governors in just 5tenure.1999_2003 Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo 2003-2007 Ayodele Fayose Chief Friday Aderemi Tunji Olurin Tope Ademiluyi 2007-2010 Segun Oni 2010-2014 Kayode Fayemi 2014-2018 Ayodele Fayose No party has ruled twice in a row: Ekiti State is the only state where a party has never rule in a row. This has been their pattern over the years. From Era of Adebayo(AD) Fayose( PDP) to Segun Oni(PDP) to Fayemi (APC) to Fayose(PDP) to Fayemi(APC). It's worthy to note that Segun Oni was not the governor elect in 2007.It was as a result of manipulation of result that Segun Oni was declared . This was later cancelled by election tribunal and Fayemi was pronounced as the winner in 2010 Reelect one person after years of voting them out : Fayemi returning to the seat of power in the state makes it the second person that will be voted out and return to the seat in years later. Firstly it was Fayose in 2003 and he was reelected in 2014 Two incumbent defeated by one person: Fayose added this to his portfolio. In 2014 when he won the governorship election, he boasted that he's the only one that unseated two incumbent governor to clinch the seat of power in the state. Actually, this is true. He unseated Adebayo in 2003 and Fayemi in 2014. Both are incumbents.
