From my working knowledge, any plant that relies on gas either as feedatock or source of power usually enter gas supply contracts that covers number of years like say 5 years, 10 years, etc gas supply contract which binds the supplier to supply them gas for all through that period.

It's the fact that we've all conditioned our mind to believe only Kainji and Shiroro dams as our major source of power generation that makes us always swallow that rainy season/dry season lamba as cause of low power supply.

I don't know what promo you typed into AI that gave you that explanation, but from what I know gas turbines are more reliable than hydropower as a source of electricity.

I've visited a private facility that is not on national grid but powered by gas turbines and light hasn't gone out for years. (At least that is what I was told).

Dangote, Total and other players in the oil and gas sector are not on the national grid, instead they use gas turbines to generate their own power and they will tell u gas turbines are very very reliable compared to hydropower plant.

Yes, I agree in some circumstances it can be harsh. If you don't have the means to return the deceased they are some rites the family members can perform back home but most actually do try to return their parents or love ones back for proper burial. Burying foreigners abroad is sometimes even more costly than sending them back home.

About 17 years ago one woman in our estate who went to assist her daughter in the UK when she had a child died within 6 months of her stay in the UK. She was buried over there and they only did service for her here in naija.

We later heard word on the street that the cost of bringing her home was just too much for the family to consider so they agreed with hurrying her over there.

While it's good for cultures to be respected, sometimes I also think common sense and kindness should prevail. Nobody should be going into debt to bury their loved one because of cultural practises.

To avoid such then you should have done those rites when she was alive and she must have told him countless times. They are traditions that are not negotiable. It's kind of a punishment for allowing their sister or relatives to die without marrying her properly.

There's a reason I used the word "unkind" and not any other word.

There's nothing strange or unkind about that. You must marry a woman according to the traditional rites of her village to be legally regarded as a husband. That's
common knowledge and when she die you must perform those rites if you haven't before she can be buried. If you haven't done traditional marriage the family doesn't even regard you as husband and wives even if you have 10 children and have been living together for 20years.

Why would wives be buried in her husband's place/Village before? Are they culture that allow such. You bury her in her village and that should be the norm.

The idea of marriage is that a woman leaves her family where she was raised from childhood to adulthood , marries a man and they both start their own family.

In the event of her demise, she belongs to that family she started with her husband. The should have a right to bury his wife as her legal and surviving spouse.

That is what I think the norm should be. And that's what it is in most part of the world till I heard about some parts in the south south doing otherwise.

Even I feel these lists are disrespectful to the grooms time. In theory, you are asking a young hustling man to be going to market upandan. Most times these are converted to cash amount. It's better you just send the cash amount. When I received my own list, I didn't even bother looking at it, I just told them to convert to cash amount, then I sent my Popsie to negotiate the cash amount in half. My original list was £12k, I told Popsie to reduce it down to £6k. I saw an email from one Aunty being disrespectful to my Popsie, so I booked wedding date and venue and sent them invite to pressure them.

While I don't know so much about other tribes, I know the items on a Yoruba marriage list are kinda symbolic. Some of those items on the list like Honey, sugar, kolanut, salt, etc are used in praying for the couple and their union.

So as much as u may want to convert the list to cash, someone in the groom's family will still have to take the pain to buy those items in the market and make it physically available at the venue of the wedding ceremony.

In fact, I learnt there are people who whose job is to arrange and source for marriage list. Just like you even people doing event decoration, wedding planner, caterer, etc. Just give them Ur marriage list, they will source all the items, wrap them beautifully and deliver on your wedding day. 😂

I actually know of a place in Delta. If you like, be Pastor Kumuyi Pikin, it will take a lot for you to bury their daughter in your own land.

For some Northern cultures, they don't waste a second to bury you. If you live in Kano, and die in Lagos, dem go bury you for Lagos sharp sharp, even in the absence of the family (I don't know of this is true)

That's why irrespective of love, it's good to do some family exploration, so you can understand what you're getting into.

My father used to tell us about a distant relative whose wife died abroad and he had to cargo her down to Nigeria and back to her village in one of the south-south states.

They claimed the didn't perform the required marriage rites when he married her abroad, so they subjected him to performing the rites from start to finish before they allowed him bury her. And yes, she was buried in her village and not her husband's preferred location. They were really unkind to the man.

Most of the husband's relatives who know about the helll he faced always tell their kids specifically not to marry from that particular state because of the strange culture
