@OP Why dont you just google the subject of left handed people...there is enough information out there to educate you on the subject and you would realize that it is a perfectly natural thing...the kid is wired that way...its only certain cultures that teach you that it is 'taboo' etc, but its not. Neither is it a habit. It is a function of how the neural pathways in the child's brain are configured from birth...tampering with it is not advisable...some of the greatest people the earth has known are 'southpaws' as they are called...

ofcourse it will work.

what i mean by the bolded statement is dat if u av an active plan, d hotspot will activate but will b in d OFF state,u wont see "set up personal hotspot" again. so u just av to turn it ON

Well...did it just like preescribed...simply doesnt work...still pops up the 'contact carrier to enable hotspot for this account' dialogue after a while...sad.
Phones / Re: iPhone Killer Apps 2 by Bluestream(m): 8:47am On Apr 19, 2012
tumababa:

Since d phone is factory unlocked, it's just a simple step u are missing. Its tricky to get personal hotspot working immediately on mtn, airtel and etisalat because u can start browsing without setting any apn under settings.

The last steps u are missing are as follows.

1.go to settings-general-network-cellular data network.
2.make sure u fill exactly d same info under "cellular data" and "internet tethering".
3. go back to network, toggle cellular data on/off u will see personal hotspot trying to activate. if u av internet plan, personal hotspot turns to OFF.

i hope it works.

Thanks Tumababa/moonraker...I need to be clear about one thing though...are you saying that if I have an active data /internet plan then personal hotspot will not work?

Hello Tumajay...kindly advise...I have a factory unlocked 4s...running iOS 5.1 on an MTN sim...I have tried activating the hotspot function by entering the APN and all...it still says I need to contact the carrier....how do people get it to work? Is anyone with a factory spec phone actually using it in naija right now? Pls holler at me... Thanks

The beauty Tragedy of the internet is that it allows us to be cowardly; we often say things to each other here in the virtual universe that we would never dream of saying face to face on Terra Firma!

@ poster, would you really do this thing you say you would? or are you just taking advantage of the faceless medium to vent your irritation/annoyance /frustration, or whatever it is that bothers you?

I dont think you would.

but then, what do I know?
Literature / An Ode To The Gap Toothed General by Bluestream(m): 5:37pm On Jun 25, 2010
Such arrogance …

You believe you know us so well as to define the limits of our collective and individual ability, do you?
I suppose this is borne of the fact that you are confident that the deliberate and systematic denial of opportunity which you and your generation have so faithfully served us on a golden platter ‘a la carte’, for the past 50 years has worked as designed, not so?

You believe that we are a dysfunctional generation don’t you? Unable to compete with our peers across the globe in a plethora of issues…unable to contribute to the national equation…unable, even, to determine the pathway of our individual destinies,
I suppose you believe you are right about all of that.

Such insolence…

It is a good thing that you have drawn the lines in the sand so early in the daY. it tells a lot about your ability to think strategically …or lack thereof…or maybe it is that age old false confidence which has led to the fall of many a self proclaimed warlord, strategist…or whatever you imagine yourself to be…you gap toothed clown!
Once again you have bolstered our conviction that age is not always wise…your senile vituperations betray the fact that you don’t only have a gap in your mandibles, but in you cranial medulla as well…

I have news for you though… there is one little, insignificant thing you have neglected to factor in this infinite, albeit unproductive wisdom of yours…
We are unbreakable!

we have learnt to accept the finite disappointment, of which of you and your kind are a repulsive embodiment…but we have infinite hope in not only God, but in ourselves as well…in our ability to overcome the obstacles you and your kind have placed in our way…in our ability to take back what you have stolen…because you have been unable to take away that which counts the most, our ability to dream…and have those dreams come true!!!

are you in doubt?
, go ask those of us who have made, and are making our mark in the world around us…building empires out of nothing…go and as those of us who are bringing home international awards…in Literature, in Science…in ICT …in Music… honestly, I don’t believe how barren of imagination you and your generation are!?, have you noticed the immigrant demographics of countries like the US and UK lately? Have you noticed how much of it is made up of Nigerian immigrants?, do you know anything about the UK’s HSMP and the Canadian immigrant VISA program?, they are desperate for the very group of people you and your kind believe are ‘worthless’
You think you know what we can do?

YOU DON’T HAVE A CLUE!

…but we will solve that problem come 2011, YOU WILL LOSE…and you will know WE DID IT TO YOU!

The Guilt of the Blameless

…When they came…
We knew their fame… knew their names,  knew their games,
When they rigged…when they lied…when they schemed
…and we were silent…

Were we blind? Were we deaf? Were we dumb?
When they forged…when they looted, when they stole
…and we were silent…

We heard the screams…saw the blood…felt the loss
When they r.aped…when they shot, when they killed,
…and we were silent…

Why then do we rage, rant and rave and write of rights in wars of words?
When we knew what we knew of whom we knew…
…and we were silent…

Warmongers!!!

I have often heard tell that war is simply old men quarrelling and children dying!

I hear them now, these ancient reptiles,

Masters of diatribe, in one breath they declare "united we stand!” in the next they speak of war,
they speak as though any of them could determine who would live and who would not; who might die and who might not,

Grandmasters of grandstanding…rattling their rusty sabers and chanting time worn war songs,
they draw up stratagem and marshal their arsenal, I hear them and I wonder,
Have they forgotten so soon, it wasn’t so long ago that the rising sun hid her face for the sake of her children was it?

I can hear them, these Valkyries of yore,
I hear them and I wonder, these ambulating cadavers,

Have they smelt the nauseous fragrance of rigor mortis as it rises in morbid effervescence from desecrated flesh?
Have they heard the deafening silence of yesterday's killing fields, punctuated only by the cackling of Mazi Udene, the bald headed one?

Senile roosters! Was it so long ago that Ani wept for the rusty haired, swollen bellied toddlers locked in kwashiorkor’s lethal embrace, how did they forget so soon?

I hear them, these Incubus…incestuous predators that prey on their own, I hear them quarrelling…

Speaking carelessly of bloodshed they do not have a stomach for…threatening war that their sons will not partake of!
They have spurned posterity and ridiculed heritage; to these ones, nothing is sacred; their only religion is greed, their only deity; their belly.
In them is nothing noble and evil rules their hearts as they stir up violence …

Warmongers,

…I hear them quarrelling…and I pray for my children,

But we are awake now, and we are not deceived…!

Hello all, I think a pertinent consideration at this point is the question of what IQ entails and how it is measured.

If I presume to understand Orinkinla's statement; I believe the unstated point is that intelligence is central to ones abiity to conceive and convey an idea in clear , understandable terms, using the medium of spoken/written language (not necessarily in English). The level of abstraction and sophistication in those articulations would invariably provide insight to the level of intelligence; or lack thereof, at play.

But then, what do I know,

It never ceases to amaze me…the crassness and sheer stupidity which oozes from the greater majority of people in positions of leadership in Nigeria!

Our honourable speaker and her deputy, in order to perform their duties to the impoverished people of Nigeria, needed to have their official accommodations ‘’renovated”….no problem with that, no problem at all, they deserve to have standard and comfortable housings, we can’t begrudge them that.It would be unfair.

What I can not fathom however, is how a whopping N579Million could have been budgeted for that singular purpose!…an amount in excess of half a billion Naira!

I would love to see the various bidding documents submitted by contractors for these contracts…I would like to see the work schedule for the proposed renovations and furnishings….I would love to see the proforma invoices for the ‘’fittings” and ‘’furniture”….I would love to have professional Realtor take a look at the property in question and give me an opinion…,

And then I would love to have a chat with Madam Speaker herself….I have some questions for her….

Madam Speaker, I understand that the budget for your own accommodation was about N270million?…I guess that would make it a state of the art house then wouldn’t it?

Forgive me ma, but if I may ask…how many cottage hospitals (lets not go into their condition yet) are in your constituency?

How many ‘’standard and befitting” primary schools are there?

Have you taken an inventory of primary school age children from your constituency who are not in school because their poor parents can not afford the meagre fees because of poverty?

…and I’m also wondering ma, if you were to build or buy a state of the art mansion for yourself…with your own money…how much do you think you would reasonably expect to pay for it? Do you honestly believe that paying the sum of N270.0million for the RENOVATION of your living quarters is a fair to the people of your constituency and Nigerian in general? Considering that the average Nigerian lives on maybe $2 a day, and the amount you earmarked for your housing alone is the equivalent of $2.1million.

Do you realise how many SCHOLARSHIPS $2million would pay for?! Do you realize how much it would fetch in medicare for your constituency?…oh, I’m sorry …you have to be comfortable first, before you think of all those trivialities …I understand.

Anyway, while you lounge in your Italian leather settees watching plasma TV’s, when you are soaking in your Jacuzzis and Saunas, after rolling in your Persian Rugs, and whatever other vanities have been purchased in the renovation exercise….( I’m believing that you would not stoop so low as to over invoice a contract so you would get some cash out of it)…

While you do whatever it is that people do in a N270.0million mansion…, remember this.

Remember that posterity will judge you. Remember that there are some of us who are not quite as forgetful as the average Nigerian…we are watching, and we will not forget.

Remember that when all is said and done…you are no worse than the men who lay in wait on the highways for innocent passers by.

Remember that God is a faithful judge…no sin will go unpunished…every wound will leave a scar…what you sow is what you will reap. Every one who partakes of your filthy, stolen wealth will partake of the wages of sin.

I hope that you would take the honourable way out and simply resign from office.

, By the way madam, when was this house originally built?

Politics / Re: The True Picture Of Nigeria by Bluestream(m): 12:42am On Aug 30, 2007
My dear Nairalanders,

Let me throw in a little something here that I had written for another purpose, which I think is a valid contribution to this thread.

Call it a peephole into my heart's cry for my country, call it the ranting of an idealist, call it whatever, BUT, when you are done, think about it for a while.

This is what I believe.

We are all a product of the beliefs that we hold to be true.

I do not believe in coincidences; neither do I believe that our lives and destinies are shaped by a series of random, uncoordinated events. I hold strongly that nothing just happens…that the string of events that make up the timeline of life are all divinely orchestrated

I have believed for a long time that our country Nigeria, which also recently became a year older, is the cornerstone of God’s ultimate agenda for the black race. From the foundation of this great country which many people have ignorantly described as the product of colonial political engineering, God’s plans and intentions have implicitly influenced the happenings around us. His unmistakable signature is woven into the fabric of our nationhood; clearly visible to the discerning eye.

I believe that there is a reason why the second stanza of our national anthem is in fact, a prayer. I believe that these lines were divinely inspired. A pointer to the divine antecedents of this country.

These words transcend creed and religion so that their true meaning will not be lost in the religious prejudice that so often rears its head amongst us

O God of Creation, direct our noble cause,
Guide our leaders right.
Help our youth, the truth to know.
In love and honesty to grow.
And living just and true, Great lofty heights attain,
to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

And what is this noble cause, some may ask? The answer lies in the last line.

This is the cause for which our founding fathers lived, fought and died.

This is our ‘noble cause’.

The quest for a nation where peace and justice reign supreme.

I ask, are we still on the quest?, when we recite that Anthem and that Pleadge, do we do itwith integrity, or are we just lying to the last person we should lie to, our very own selves?

I beleive that there is yet a remnant in Nigeria, a young, rennaissance oriented generation which is intent on influencing positive change around here,

, my charge to you is this,

We ignore our predecessors to our own loss…, we overlook our antecedents at our own peril because every vision of the future must be predicated on hindsight…. foresight and insight…that we may not repeat the mistakes of the past, nor ignore the challenges of the present. That we may see beyond our present horizons…

I will stop there for now,

Your thoughts please?

I have 9-5 job, or should I say 7-7?, and I find it a real big challenge to create time, besides I have only just started trying t find a support group like this one,

Bottom line, I need some motivation, sounds a bit lame, but I do, any helpers?

here is a a little of what I write.

Time

Time tells all, as time itself has proven,Times may change, and they frequently do,

But time remains constant, immovable, eternal. It is the divine oracle which tells us what has been, what is, and what is to be.

Time reveals all, as time itself has proven.Thoughts may be hidden, as they often are,

but time is the laboratory in which they are distilledand synthesized into action.

It is the translator of covert to overt.

Time changes all, as time itself has proven.Feelings run deep, convictions hold strong,

But time is the catalyst that changes them all.It is the wind tunnel which tests the integrity of the soul.

It is heaven’s threshing floor.

Is it just me, or does it seem like we have an issue of trust with a majoriy of Bros/Sis'in the diaspora?, (please ignore that)

Why speak of love if there is no trust?, you can't love who you don't know, and if you don't trust who you do know, how can you love who you don't trust?

Why speak of love and crave ''índependence''?

How do you ''love'' with reservations?

, people,people, people,

Let us tell ourselves the truth, a lot of us enter into relationships and even marriage with everything else but love on our minds and in our hearts!

That is why this thread even exists, Central to this whole debate is the sublime question, do you trust your partner?

If you truly do, regardless of previous experience, firsthand or observed, you would not have reservations or hang ups about dependence.

Love in its true sense is interdependent. QED

I have a joint account with my wife, any thing other than that is really a form of infidelity. Sounds a bit absolute, but think about it for a moment, ask yourself, what are the things that should guide our most intimate relationships?

If complete openness, trust and interdependence are included in your list ( this is me being presumptious), then it stands to reason that anything that detracts from those elements is to some degree, infidelity.

I rest my case.

I don't even want to go in to the issue of copying western programs,or if therE are no better wasy of corporate promotion, water under the bridge. My grouse is if you chose to do it this way, why couldn't you do it right? Whatever you throw their way, Nigerian kids will take it on, so why not take the extra care to be sure they are safe?

Mamajama:

We are not fraudulent circumstances make us who we are.

Mamajama, I do not quite agree with you. circumstances DO influence who we are, but I do not believe that they MAKE us who we are.

If you are born into a poor home for instance, the particular circumstances you encounter may influence you, but ultimately you have a choice in how you respond to where you find yourself; do you accept it as fate, or do you fight with dogged determination to break out of poverty? You definitely would not remain poor in your thoughts if you choose that path.

In the same vein, we 9ja's may be faced with adverse circumstances, but that does not, should not, define who we are.

If you ask me, it makes life all the more interesting when I reminisce on my little triumphs over the many many challenges of young people like myself trying to not just survive in 9ja, but actually make a difference!

Struggling to get a job, getting one, saving money, leaving home, saving more money, learning more, leaving home, squatting with friends, paying rent, saving more money, losing some, learning to invest, losing faith in the country, learning that its my attitude, not the country, regaining focus, getting own house, dealing with NEPA, saving for a Gen. Set, saving for a TV, coping with relationship stress, saving for virtually everything inspite of rising inflation, coping with adverse economic climate/failed leadership, dealing with the temptation, to cut a deal here, make a quick buck there, join the fast lane, realising that anything was possible, getting a better job, and another, and another, realising that hard work pays, and smart work pays better even ( it takes hard work for you to be able to do smart work),

I must tell you, I know quite a number of people like me, male and female, who are in their own little way, making the space they occupy on this land mass we all call home count.
Politics / Re: Is The Average Nigerian Fraudulent? by Bluestream(m): 4:47pm On Jul 13, 2007
I think we are all standing too close to the mirror, so we see our eyeballs but dont see our faces.

The average Nigerian is human. to the extent that the average human is prone to selfishness and subversion in the interest of self preservation, I would say Yes. the average Nigerian is fraudulent.

But allow me to qualify that statement. It is not an admission to being an inferior or baser specie of homo sapien; it is in fact an affirmation and confirmation of the fact that nigerians are human and will behave as the average human is NATURALLY prone to do, given certain conditions.

Fraud is not the exclusive preserve of the nigerian, but a natural disposition of humanity, so let he who says it in an accusatory tone beware of hypocrisy.

Having said that, let us recall that we are talking about the AVERAGE nigerian. Beyond that, there are not a few of our kind, who have by force of self discipline , committed themselves to a DAILY struggle to do the right thing inspite of the natural proclivity to choose the easy way out. They deserve commendation, especially from those in the diaspora, some of whom sadly, have turned themselves into the unwitting allies of the facelesss neo-colonial phenomenon which seeks to keep the African psychologically underdeveloped by constantly attacking his self esteem though the all powerful media apparatus.

Crime is crime, fraud is fraud, irrespective of who commits it. Nevertheless, I am yet to hear of fraud that is exclusive to the Nigerian, and has not been committed in history by someone of lighter skin complexion.

You are what you think my people!, nothing more and nothing less. The challenge here is not really whether we are fraudulent or not, but what are we doing to improve our individual and collective disposition as a nation, inspite of the economic & politicalcircumstances we find ourselves facing. Why?, its just a phase, It will pass!

I am PROUD to have been born Nigerian, I am determined to make the most of my heritage. I am resolved that nothing, human or circumstantial , will prevent me from from being all that this Nigerian blood I have in my veins has equipped me to be. And I will do it the right way, wanna know how?, stay close to the Stream

I rest my case.
