Politics › Labour Party Caretaker-Committee Is Heading To The Supreme Court. by BluntCrazeMan(op): 4:22pm On Jan 19, 2025 |
19th January 2025 PRESS RELEASE
“WE ARE HEADING TO THE SUPREME COURT” -- LP National Caretaker Committee
The Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party is going to seek further clarification from the Supreme Court on the leadership dispute in the party.
Sen. Nenadi Esther Usman, the Chairman of the Committee set up by the leadership of the party confirmed this fact at the weekend to clear the ambiguities in the ruling of the Appeal Court.
The November 13, 2024, and January 17, 2025 rulings of the Court of Appeal have brought up issues that only the Supreme Court can clarify, and the Caretaker Committee has instructed their lawyer accordingly.
The Caretaker Committee has, therefore, instructed their supporters across the country to be patient.
Recall that on 4th September 2024 critical stakeholders of the party comprising its 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Sole Governor elected on the party platform in Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti and other elected and critical stakeholders across the country met in Umuahia, the Abia state capital and constituted the body to plan an all-inclusive National Convention for the party before the Barr Julius Abure led team went to the court.
The National Caretaker Committee Chairman, SEN. NENADI USMAN, and the National Caretaker Committee Secretary, SEN. DARLINGTON NWOKOCHA had on Saturday issued the following clarifications 👇👇🏼👇🏼 on the latest Appeal Court ruling.
JUDGMENT IN APPEAL NO: CA/ABJ/CV/1217/2024; SEN. NENADI ESTHER USMAN & ANOR v. LABOUR PARTY & ANOR
As the duly recognized National Caretaker Committee Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, we, on behalf of ourselves and other members of the National Caretaker Committee, deem it necessary to issue this Press Release to clarify and set the records straight.
Firstly, today, 17th January 2025, the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Abuja Division, in Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/1217/2024; SEN. NENADI ESTHER USMAN & ANOR v. LABOUR PARTY & ANOR, unreservedly allowed our appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1271/2024, delivered on 8th October 2024 by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite.
In its judgment delivered today, the Court of Appeal upheld the following:
1. Lack of Jurisdiction: The Court of Appeal affirmed that Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1271/2024, filed before the Federal High Court by Barr. Julius Abure was a leadership dispute over which the Federal High Court has no jurisdiction.
2. Error by the Federal High Court: The Federal High Court erred and acted without jurisdiction by entertaining the leadership dispute brought before it by Barr. Julius Abure.
3. Violation of Fair Hearing: The Federal High Court violated our right to a fair hearing by failing to consider our Counter-Affidavit filed in opposition to the suit before it.
Accordingly, the Court of Appeal struck out the suit filed before the Federal High Court for lack of jurisdiction.
It is important to address the erroneous and unsolicited finding by the Court of Appeal that, in a judgment, it delivered on 13th November 2024 in Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024; LABOUR PARTY v. OLUSOLA EBISENI & ORS, Julius Abure was “admitted as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.” This finding is completely inconsistent with the substantive judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal.
For clarity, the judgment delivered on 13th November 2024 in Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024 pertains to the nomination of a Governorship Candidate for the Ondo State Governorship Election. It has no connection whatsoever to the leadership dispute, which was the crux of the instant suit.
Furthermore, we reiterate the established legal principle in Nigeria that courts lack jurisdiction to interfere in the internal affairs of political parties, including leadership and management issues. Therefore, we commend the Court of Appeal for upholding the position that the leadership dispute in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1271/2024 is non-justiciable and outside the court's jurisdiction.
Finally, we wish to remind the public that on 4th September 2024, the Labour Party constituted a National Caretaker Committee, appointing the undersigned, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, as the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the National Caretaker Committee Secretary. Both have been diligently and effectively carrying out their duties to the admiration of stakeholders and the entire membership of the party.
Signed:

POLICE RECOVER TWO STOLEN VEHICLES THROUGH E-CMR PLATFORM
The Kano police command says it has recovered two stolen vehicles in the state.
A statement on Friday by Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police spokesperson, said the vehicles were recovered using the electronic central motor registry (e-CMR) platform.

Kiyawa said the suspects stole the first vehicle during a car test drive in Abuja, while the other car was taken in Kano where it was parked.
“The Kano state police command has made significant strides in the recovery of two (2) motor vehicles reported stolen through the NPF Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) Platform,” the statement reads.
“On 1st January 2025, a complaint was lodged by a resident of Abuja, stating that unidentified individuals approached him at his car stand located in Zuba, Abuja, expressing interest in a Toyota Corolla 2014 model.
“During a test drive, the two suspects brandished a pistol, threatened the victim, and subsequently fled with the vehicle including original documents and two keys. Similarly, on 4th January 2025, a Mercedes Benz C300 parked in front of Luxirian Event Center in Nassarawa GRA, Kano owned by a resident of Hadejia Road, Kano was reported stolen.”
The police spokesperson said the operatives, after obtaining relevant information from the e-CMR platform, recovered the stolen vehicles behind old airport in Bauchi state, and Shagari Quarters in Kano state respectively.
He urged motorists to utilise the e-CMR platform to register their vehicles.
“Between 10th and 15th January 2025, the team after obtaining relevant information from the e-CMR platform, successfully recovered the two stolen motor vehicles behind old Airport in Bauchi State and Shagari Quarters, Kano respectively. Investigations into the two cases are ongoing,” Kiyawa said.
“The commissioner of police commended the detectives for their exemplary work in both cases and appreciated the public’s continued support. He further assures that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order and combating crime within the State.
“Furthermore, anyone with information regarding criminal activities or suspected individuals to assist the Police by reporting to the nearest station or through the following contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.” Source: https://www.thecable.ng/police-recover-two-stolen-vehicles-through-e-cmr-platform/

GOVERNOR SOLUDO UNVEILS ANAMBRA HOMELAND SECURITY LAW, LAUNCHES “OPERATION UDO GA-ACHI”PRESS STATEMENT
In a major bid to tackle the security challenges facing Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has unveiled the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 and launched a special security operation code-named "Operation Udo Ga-Achi".
The Governor, who signed the Homeland Security Law 2025 earlier today, stated that the law provides a framework for community/citizens' ownership and participation in sustainable security and social re-engineering.
According to Governor Soludo, "Operation Udo Ga-Achi" is a special intervention force that complements regular policing, and is designed to upscale intelligence gathering, reward whistleblowers, enhance rapid response, and urgently root out criminals from every camp in Anambra State.
The Governor noted that the security challenges facing the state are complex and hydra-headed, requiring a comprehensive and sustainable response. He emphasized that the state government is determined to fight criminality and ensure that Anambra becomes the safest state in Nigeria.
Key components of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 include:
- Establishment of a new vigilante architecture, AGUNECHEMBA, to assist and complement federal security forces
- Deployment of technology, including tracking systems, command-and-control systems, and AI-powered surveillance cameras
- Establishment of a State Call Centre with toll-free lines
- Payment of monthly security support grants to communities
- Payment of a monthly bonus of N10 million to Divisional Police Offices that record zero violent crimes
The Governor also announced that the state government will review assistance to existing Correctional Centres and embark on building new ones. He further stated that the government will work with the Commissioner of Police and DSS to identify top LGAs with violent crime histories.
Governor Soludo called on communities to set up security governance structures urgently and encouraged each community to design and execute its own "cleansing or restoration programme."
He also reiterated the state government's extension of hand of friendship and amnesty to kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, and other categories of criminals, urging them to surrender their arms and embrace rehabilitation.
The Governor emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and called on all citizens to support the efforts of the state government in ensuring the safety and security of Anambra State.

This law establishes AGUNECHEMBA, a structured state security outfit designed to complement and support existing law-enforcement agencies in preventing crime, detecting criminal activities, and preserving law and order across all communities, local governments, and urban centers in Anambra State.
The law provides for:
- The formation, structure, and administration of Agunechemba, operating at the state, local government, and community levels.
- Collaboration between Agunechemba, private security companies, and relevant government agencies to enhance security operations.
- Defined roles and responsibilities for security supervisory committees at various levels to oversee operations and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Strict regulations against kidnapping, banditry, illicit drug trade, and the unlawful use of properties for criminal activities.
- Clear mandates on landlords, property owners, and hospitality businesses to ensure due diligence in tenant and guest identification.
- Offenses and penalties to deter crime and enhance enforcement mechanisms.
- This law represents a decisive step by the Government of Anambra State under the leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, to safeguard the people of Anambra and create a secure, resilient, and thriving environment for businesses, residents, and visitors.
