As for me, I will describe it as further proof that "necessity is the mother of invention", no matter how ridiculous it looks.

I'm also introverted. I once stayed at home during a 4-month summer holiday without going anywhere or visiting anyone except going to church and wherever my family had to go. The only period I was going out was for 2 weeks before resumption to shop and do other preparations. God help me. My mum usually says I'm antisocial but I think I'm okay.
BTW, NICEST THREAD IN A WHILE.

Wait a minute, why is he 'colonel' gaddafi and not 'general'? That does not depict a 'tyrant'; especially one who has ruled for 42 years.

Politics / Re: Rumor Of Boko Haram Plan To Bomb Lagos – How True? by bobbyL(m): 1:26am On Aug 27, 2011
BIGER BOY:
did u know there r now
patents on relief foods!
You are very right. Biotechnology corporations like monsanto patent genetically modified food, which are allegedly sold and distributed as relief foods. This seems to be part of their plan to monopolize food supply.
PointB:

Great theory! But who are the bombers? Western nations?

I don't think it's hard to imagine the brainwashers, and not the brainwashed, receiving funds, benefits as well as promises to carry out these atrocities since they won't actually be the ones suicide-bombing. The brainwashed on the other hand, are simply promised "rewards in paradise".
Education / Re: Nigeria Graduate Vs Foreign Graduate by bobbyL(m): 7:46pm On Aug 19, 2011
Nigerian graduates vs foreign graduates. Well, foreign graduates are not inherently smarter than Nigerian graduates. However, what happens when intelligence is not nurtured enough? It makes the individual seem less intelligent than he/she really is. E.g no matter how much one has a natural flair for numbers, you can't expect him to start solving math problems in texts if he has never learned about numbers; he won't even be able to recognise Arabic numerals. I have no comprehension of the Chinese alphabets and will not comprehend them unless I learn.
Now, to conform the Nigerian graduate to the explanation: no matter how smart or intelligent a student is, you don't expect him to have adequate knowledge of what he has inadequately or never learnt. An average foreign graduate would be better than an average Nigerian graduate in the same field , as he has been adequately and efficiently(in most cases) tutored both theoretically and practically, and has also been given ample room for intellectual freedom and expression, which in my opinion motivate learning. An average nigerian graduate on the other hand, is inadequately tutored and trained for reasons that have been well stated by previous posters. However, there are exceptions-who are truly rare as a typical Nigerian student is only concerned with passing, getting good grades, and securing a handsomely paying job after graduation. These develop themselves to a level where they at least become competent in their field.
Also, not many people can cope with developing themselves and at the same time getting high grades in a cramming-based educational system as ours. @ Ajanlekoko, you graduated with a 2'2 because you cared most about self-development. How many Nigerian students believe in-depth knowledge is better than graduating with a first class or 2'1. I have a friend who was evidently appalled when he told me that the best student in his class(computer tech), before he(my friend) joined the class, crams codes to pass exams; meaning he doesn't know much about actually programming.
In my opinion, an average foreign graduate would be more competent than an average Nigerian graduate.

NB: I believe many Nigerian students cannot develop themselves beyond theoretical knowledge in courses where expensive and latest equipment are needed, as they do not have access to these equipment or can only access obsolete or outdated ones.
Religion / Re: Has Mohammed Appeared To Any Christian Yet? Jesus Has To Many Muslims! by bobbyL(m): 2:13am On Aug 19, 2011
@LagosShia, haba, easy now, you don't have to swear and curse before you defend your faith. I believe if your god is really God, you don't need to insult on his behalf. Why not lay out your points gently and logically, instead of being forceful and violent. Your posts seem to be characteristic of the feelings behind the actions of islamic terrorists. Is this how you intend to convert people.
I believe you should consider this statement, "come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28.

JESUS IS LORD FOREVER AND EVER.

Maybe because these wards cant passs UME
I don't know when you had your first degree, hence, I assume it might have been when candidates were admitted based on merit. However, nowadays, you would agree with me that many public university students are not there on merit. So, I don't see why a highly respected professor in one of the foremost universities in Nigeria would find it difficult to "put" his/her child in that uni or another where he/she has connections.

Career / Re: Does GPA Really Matter In The Labour Market? by bobbyL(m): 8:48pm On Aug 12, 2011
@davidylan. Sincere apologies. I made a serious blunder by directing the statement at you. It should have been Jarus. I'm really sorry, it's been modified.
Career / Re: Does GPA Really Matter In The Labour Market? by bobbyL(m): 5:43pm On Aug 12, 2011
@ Jarus, search for 'the essential soyinka' on google. The first result should be where I got the info from.
Career / Re: Does GPA Really Matter In The Labour Market? by bobbyL(m): 1:09pm On Aug 12, 2011
@Jarus, stop citing Wole Soyinka as one of those who graduated with poor grades. Does a literature nobel laureate seem like one who would fail english as a course of study even if he doesn't study? Wole Soyinka was the best student in english, struggled for the top with the best student in greek and also in history in his class at UI before he travelled to complete his first degree at leeds university, where I believe a 3rd class student won't be accepted.
Gpa matters as it would boost your chances. However, do not rely solely on what you are taught. Try to develop yourself as much as possible, in all areas from practical experience to theoretical knowledge to speaking, writing, social skills( doesn't mean you should turn into a party freak or waste too much time trying to socialize), horse sense, and so on, as you would be more respected if you are booksmart, sharp and also streetsmart. You are however in your final year, and trying to be well grounded in many aspects will likely have an effect on your academics. You may not perform as well as you would if you are strictly devoted to passing. So, weigh your options and determine if it would be more advantageous for you to devote yourself totally to your books and anything that would improve your grades, as I would advise you to, or, develop yourself in many areas. It's up to you as you have just a year left.  Good luck.
Education / Re: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by bobbyL(m): 7:45pm On Jul 27, 2011
All of you shouting about ICAN should kindly calm down. I have a friend studying comp.tech who blivs ICAN is not hard or better still is easy. Why? B'cos he has a sister I believe he doesn't regard as brilliant who graduated from a private uni(not C.U) with a 2'1 and aced ICAN once. So, why all the fuss?
Education / Re: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by bobbyL(m): 1:35pm On Jul 27, 2011
The guy try sha. Initially reading for 18hrs a day! haba you be silencer(3 idiots), u wan kill urself, you must be on some drugs to do that. OR it fit be lie.
Anyway, methinks the guy would make a first class in any university if he is as hardworking as he claims to be.
Education / Re: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by bobbyL(m): 12:51pm On Jul 27, 2011
I'm still asking, how many graduates were produced and how many are first class.
Education / Re: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by bobbyL(m): 10:54am On Jul 27, 2011
@dabraska, Ben Carson started reading and changing(due to maternal influence) when he was 8 years old not after he finished high school. I agree with others, it is highly implausible that someone with a low or, let me say, below average sec schl background-which I bliv is fundamental to further academic success-would graduate with the highest ever cgpa in a place where others that have a better foundation mentally and academically exist-unless of course, he resorts to cramming (which is easier at university level) almost all the way, as I have observed in some, or becomes one of the "hidden talent" exceptions that appear once in a while.
Education / Re: Covenant University: Accounting Student Graduates With 4.99 GPA by bobbyL(m): 10:27am On Jul 27, 2011
You have to give him due respect though the fact that it was covenant university waters down the prestige of the cgpa. However, he was the best in C.u, so kudos to him. BTW, is it true that CU churns out MANY first class graduates. How many were the graduates and how many were first class graduates.
Religion / Re: Guess Who This Armed Dude Was Protecting. Pic by bobbyL(m): 11:06am On Jul 26, 2011
There is absolutely no evidence that the individual in that pic is E.A Adeboye's personal bodyguard. He could just be one of the numerous security details attached to the event. Just imagine bokoharam opening fire or hacking innocent worshippers-as not all of them may be righteous-to death. It would be an absolute abuse of the fundamental human right to live and also the democratic right and assurance of security. Peace be unto you all.

Politics / Re: Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon Vs Pastor Chris Okotie by bobbyL(m): 10:17pm On Jul 31, 2010
I think d message d hon is trying to convey is comprehensible. U can't blame him.  7 hrs of studying per diem, if tru I would do almost anything for it. People who have been devoted to such things know it just comes effortlessly. Its just like a martial artist blocking a strike  - it's part and parcel of them.  But, d guy should pity others na. He represents a people whose majority, probably, can't  DECIPHER his grammatical "codes" : but, should they?                                                                Anyway, what caught my attention the most was Obafemi Awolowo, the IKENE PHILOSOPHER:  Sounded hilarious to me.
Education / Re: Zain African Challenge by bobbyL(m): 9:41am On May 31, 2010
Up zain. Africa challenge provides a platform for students to showcase their intellectual prowess. I have been most impressed by African Nazarene Univ, shocked that champs UI were knocked out early. Kenyan stds are really good, especially in African history, peoples, places, events, literature, politics and personalities, which we really need to concentrate on in Nigeria. The final would be broadcast next week. This week is Egerton vs Jomo Kenyatta (university), 2 of the best universities this year to me. smiley

I feel the other seven players are above 17.    Maybe 3 to 5 yrs more than 17

We can also find few under 17s in universities. I know 16 and 17 yr old uni stds who are big, strong and talented enough to play.

I remember a friend who was btw 17-20 yrs old and claimed to be in Nigeria's u-13 team.

I'm surprised by some pips who have been posting on this thread.
Are u taught in church how to slander people whether they share ur views or not?
U can only make pple see reasons with u if u show some level of christ-likeness.

I know ", speak evil of NO man, " is in the Bible. Whether they are atheists, xtians, muslims, e.t.c
Religion / Re: Queen Of Sheba Took Off At The Arrival Of Bishop Oyedepo by bobbyL(m): 8:20pm On Aug 22, 2009
I'm not supporting anyone. I have questions 4 both parties.

             @ ALOY
your pastor is not and can never be perfect( until he gets to heaven). But how do we justify some of his decisions
like not allowing hiv positive stds to graduate. Also I totally disagree with "if u are not a c.u std u are enslaved"
NA EVRERYBODY FIT GO C.U OR C.U FIT MANAGE EVERYBODY

            @ Davidylan & co
I know u have ur doubts, but how then do we justify the miracles and wonders wrought at his programmes

I'm really confused so I don't take sides. I totally believe in making the bible ur yardstick.
