PoliticsAPC Primaries: Osinbajo Group Dares Tinubu, Says VP Won’t Step Down by Bobloco(op): 8:03am On May 23, 2022
Ahead of next week’s presidential convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, The Progressive Project TPP – an umbrella organization of all pro-Yemi Osinbajo support groups, has dismissed speculations that the vice president was considering stepping down for a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group noted that as the APC prepares for its presidential primaries, paid agents and loyalists of some aspirants have intensified the spread of falsehoods against the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Director of Operations at The Progressive Project TPP, Alhaji Usman Aliyu Usman noted on Sunday that “some paid agents and other supporters who feel threatened by the candidature of Professor Osinbajo seem determined for a gutter fight which Osinbajo supporters cannot join”.

Part of the statement reads; “One of our visible supporters, Professor Olusola Adeyeye, a two-term Senator who represented Osun Central Senatorial District between 2011 to 2019 made some weighty statements about the APC presidential primaries on Saturday and by Sunday, really baseless and mischievous anti-Osinbajo statements began circulating.

“Unfortunately, one of these came from Mr. Daniel Bwala, an aide to Deputy Senate President, Senator Omo-Agege who currently appears to moonlight as spokesman for the Bola Tinubu campaign.

“Specifically, without any proof, Mr. Bwala started circulating a video clip with claims that Professor Yemi Osinbajo is ‘allegedly planning to step down for Asiwaju’; Mr. Bwala had no evidence and he ought to know better than going to town with such.”

“Without doubt, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is still riding high in the race and our decision not to interfere in some camps’ deliberate spread of illusion and untruths is only motivated by our genuine confidence in our candidate’s prospects.

“As stated long ago, no group linked to TPP will join any individual or group in playing gutter politics or smearing others but we need to unequivocally state that Professor Yemi Osinbajo is not contemplating any measure of capitulation to any candidate.

“While we are sworn to total allegiance to the Constitution, patriotic values and the spirit of good sportsmanship, we denounce the misleading information and unbecoming tricks that some supporters in other presidential candidates’ camps embrace so eagerly.

“We denounce too, the baseless ad unhelpful information being randomly disseminated by the likes of Mr. Bwala.

“In the interest of the nation and its democracy, TPP appeals to all aspirants and supporters at all levels to learn from the focused and principled campaign methods of Professor Osinbajo and his supporters whose collective determination towards actualizing Nigeria’s enduring greatness is a cause that genuinely deserves the support of all patriots.

“We categorically debunk the spate of falsehoods against PYO’s candidature and we urge all Nigerian patriots to look forward to join us in the forthcoming celebrations on the day after APC presidential primaries,’ the TPP official stated.

Meanwhile, the Tinubu Support Group TSG has appealed to delegates to consider the future of the nation and elect the former Lagos governor as presidential candidate of the party.

Head, Media and Publicity of the TSG, Tosin Adeyanju in an open letter to delegates said “it is an incontrovertible fact that Asiwaju Tinubu has the mental capacity, the political sagacity and the economic ingenuity required to steer the Nigerian ship to the promised land”.

“Patrick Henry famously declared that ‘I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past’. It is with the declaration of Patrick Henry in mind that I am writing to you all on why the choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the answer to a new Nigeria we have long desired. My letter to you all is to seek your vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in this forthcoming convention.

“Hence, I am appealing to all you, our dear party delegates to vote for Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu as the party presidential candidate. The future of this country and that of our children has made Asiwaju the right choice for a time like this when our country needs a tested turnaround.

“As a pro-democracy leader from the NADECO days, Senator in the third republic, two-time Governor of Lagos State and founding member of APC, Asiwaju is the most experienced and most qualified to be the next President of Nigeria”, he stated.

In a related development, the APC Professionals Forum has taken its quest for professionals and technocrats in the party to be given more roles to the leadership of the party.

A delegation led by the acting Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Dr Nkem Okeke which met the National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, was emphatic that the party has an untapped pool of professionals that could easily add value to the party’s operations at all levels.

He said: “The narrative has to change to include this untapped pool of party members who have shown more than a passing interest in politics and governance in country.

“We have quite a number, not only in our midst but also within the rank and file, that are prepared for responsibilities so we crave the indulgence of the National Working Committee (NWC) to also look in the direction of professionals who are registered APC members.

“As a registered think-tank in the party, it falls within our mandate to contribute our quota to strengthening APC. We have therefore being holding consultations with registered professionals bodies in order to woo interested professionals into the party as well as to synergize with them in order to enhance professionalism in governance.

“And while the party is in the midst of electing candidates that will fly our flag in the various elections in 2023, we are hoping to organize conferences, retreats and symposia in partnership with the new APC leadership as part of preparations for the next general elections.”

Responding, Senator Omisore welcomed the idea behind the formation of APC Professionals Forum and promised to support its initiatives.

“We are prepared to work with you and have no problem including professionals in the activities of the party ahead of the next election,” he said.

The delegation which also included the National Coordinator of the forum, Hon. Akeem Akintayo also met the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, National Vice Chairman (South), Victor Giadom as well as National Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu and his deputy, Nze Chidi Duru.

CrimeMan, 18, Kills Three-year-old Nephew For Ritual In Niger State by Bobloco(op): 8:09am On May 22, 2022
Luck has run out on an 18-yr-old man who allegedly killed his three-year-old nephew for ritual.

The incident occurred in Lapai, headquarters of Lapai local government area of Niger State yesterday. Our correspondent gathered that the deceased, Hassan Ibrahim, a twin, had been declared missing on Friday by his parents.

The suspect was said to have been contracted by his landlord to get a toddler for him for ritual. The suspect allegedly killed the boy but luck ran out on him when the dismembered body of Hassan was discovered by Okada man carrying him for delivery of the butchered boy.

Fresh blood of the deceased was said to be flowing down inside the sack and the suspect was stained with blood and the Okada man alerted the police while the suspect was apprehended. When the sack was searched, the body of the boy was reportedly found therein. The man, it was reliably gathered, is a brother to the mother of Hassan and residing with the sister to learn how to trade.

“The landlord who is also a popular cement seller in the town but who contracted the suspect to deliver body parts of a three-year-old child for ritual and the suspect have both been arrested and helping the police in their investigations”, a resident said.

Irked by the development, some youths in the town set ablaze the house and cars of the notable trader who allegedly contracted the suspected killer.

Contacted, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the story, adding that the suspects were in police custody for further investigation.

Politics7 Days To APC Primary: North Queues Behind Lawan, Tinubu’s Men Weigh ‘Plan B’ by Bobloco(op): 7:49am On May 22, 2022
Seven days to the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there is palpable anxiety over the speculation that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may dump the ruling party at the federal level if the exercise, scheduled for May 29 and 30, is manipulated against him.

Tinubu is one of the front runners in the contest for the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

And not only is he a front runner, the former governor of Lagos State has support of many governors that cuts across his South-West geopolitical zone and stretches to other parts of the country for the party’s ticket.

No fewer than 12 of the 23 APC governors are said to be working for his emergence as the next President of the country.

But there are reports of powerful forces working against him especially from the North which has now produced some aspirants contrary to the expectation that, based on the power rotation understanding, the southern part of Nigeria should produce the President in 2023.

The speculation that Tinubu may quit APC gained traction and, in fact, ruffled feathers in many political quarters, last week, after an unnamed associate hinted Vanguard that the former Lagos governor was considering moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to actualize his “lifelong ambition” of being Nigeria’s President if he was manipulated out of the 2023 race in the APC.

According to the associate, the development was the reason a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, stated recently that Tinubu had Plan B if the APC primary is manipulated against him.

Although, he noted that APC remains the primary platform Tinubu intends to actualize his dream of presiding over the affairs of the nation, options, including moving to the SDP, would be explored if the primary comes short of transparency and credibility.

“It is too early to ask if Asiwaju would leave the APC for another party. He is a big factor in APC, a party he helped to form, financed and nurtured into what it is today”, the associate told Vanguard.

“We are not unaware of recent developments and attempts to insult a man who has paid his dues in the political evolution of this country.

“But that is not important for now. What I can tell you is that our leader, like other contestants, is looking forward to a credible process that would lead to the emergence of our flag bearer.

“But if that process is compromised, I can tell you for free that we will encourage him to explore other options. “Yes, a lot has been said about SDP and Asiwaju. When we get to that bridge, we will cross it.

“SDP offered him a platform to become a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria years ago but, for now, he is in APC and will remain there until circumstance dictates otherwise”.

Meanwhile, the rumoured Plan B is generating anxiety among Tinubu’s associates.

The Director General of Ondo State Network for Bola Tinubu, Tolu Babaleye, called the speculation a lie from the pit of hell, wondering how a landlord would abandon his house for tenants.

“Asiwaju is APC and APC is Asiwaju. There is no truth in the rumour, it is the handiwork of fifth columnists” Babaleye told Sunday Vanguard at the weekend.

On his part, the Director General of BATOC 23, Dr Ayo Owoade, said: “First, if we are sure that we will have a free and fair primary election devoid of manipulation, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the candidate to beat. No one can beat him in a fair contest.

“However, if there is no fairness in the primary or some people eventually succeed to impose consensus on the party, as we know some people are seriously struggling to do, then Asiwaju has his options.

“For us at BATOC 23, whatever Asiwaju decides is what we will support. We are not just with him, we believe in his ability and capacity to engineer a new Nigeria.

“The party, we believe, will not want to embark on self-destruction by not allowing party members to exercise their right to decide a candidate.

“We hope the party will listen to the voice of wisdom and allow the people’s will to prevail”.

Also sharing his group’s perspective, the Director of Publicity and Strategy for the South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA), Olawale Sadare, said Tinubu remains in the party, expressing optimism that the former governor would get the presidential ticket of APC “due to his political experience and development strides across the country”.

His words: “Tinubu has the brightest chances as a bridge builder and he is a detribalised person.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the brightest chance to be the next President of Nigeria on account of who he is and what he represents.

“He has demonstrated competence, courage and character over the years in the political space as far as Nigeria is concerned and it is not in doubt that he is the most talked about political player in the country today.

“He is a man of ideas and he knows what to do as a leader to keep Nigeria one, stronger and prosperous, inspire us to end the current challenges which the country is facing.

“He is a bridge builder and he is detribalised. President Tinubu would be for all regardless of religious, social and ethnic backgrounds.

“There is no political party in the country today, including the PDP, that does not want to field Tinubu as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections and this is a statement of fact.”

“If Tinubu is given the chance to rule from May 2023, he would gather the best hands from across the country to man the key sectors of government business just like he did in Lagos between 1999 and 2007.

“He would make the best use of Nigeria’s enormous human and material resources to put country on the path of greatness.

“He would act to douse all the tensions emanating from ethnic agitation, poor economy, insecurity etc.

“President Tinubu would make Nigeria a toast of developed nations of the world and they would all develop the zeal to partner his government to the advantage of our dear country.”

In his own contribution, a chieftain of SWAGA, Senator Tony Adeniyi, said, “I don’t want to talk about any plan at all because Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will win the APC presidential primary next week.

“There is nothing to worry about, we are so confident about it because this man has worked for it, he deserves it and I believe the delegates across the nation will support him at the convention ground.

“So, no need to panic or think about anything considering the work we have done and, going by the feedback we are getting from across the nation, Tinubu will win the primary.”

PoliticsUmahi: Blame Ohanaeze For Nnamdi Kanu’s Fate by Bobloco(op): 7:04am On May 22, 2022
EBONYI State governor and Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, Mr David Umahi, has lamented insecurity in the South-East and blamed it on what he described as unnecessary politics among leaders in the region.

Umahi also blamed the Prof. George Obiozor-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo for the failure to politically resolve the case of the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying that the apex Igbo socio-cultural body refused to follow up the discussions established by the South-East Governors with President Muhammadu Buhari for a political solution for Kanu’s case.

The governor, who spoke in Abakaliki at the weekend while hosting members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, regretted that unnecessary politics had scuttled all security and peace efforts initiated by leaders in the South-East.

On why South-East Governors appear not to be working together to tackle the security challenges in the region and other cooperation, Umahi said they are working together but added that each state has its own problems and priorities.

His words:” When it comes to security, I must tell you in all honesty, there is politics in our security situation in this region. Do we say all the governors are bonded towards tackling security challenges? The answer is no. There is extreme politics in this region, and it must stop for the sake of our people”.

“When we started, we were all working together and I was the person championing against the activities of IPoB, that the agitation is not good for our people, that the kind of agitation being meted out was not correct; the kind of hate speech, and from there it developed to violence and we continued to lie to our people, oh they have infiltrated, not true. It is the South-East killing south – easterners and security people, and if we are not able to speak our it would continue”

Umahi described sit-at-home as nonsense and advised Igbo to be wise. “It is useless and nonsense because even if there were to be Biafra, Ebonyi will not be part of Biafra. I have said it and I will continue to say it”, he stated.
