I remember when I visited my grandmother in our small town, she dropped some serious wisdom on me. She said “Grandson, one day some people will waste their time reading your comment.” Today is that day.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has quizzed the suspended chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa for questioning.

The spokesperson of the Service, Dr. Peter Afunanya, who confirmed this last night, said Bawa honoured DSS invitation after he was suspended from office.

According to him, “Bawa arrived a few hours ago. The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him.”

The DSS, however, didn’t state if he has been released on bail or is still being held at their facility.

Bawa’s suspension is coming barely one week after governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele was suspended President Bola Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement on Wednesday, Willie Bassey, director of information, office of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said Bawa was suspended to allow for a proper investigation into his conduct while in office.

He said the suspension followed “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him”, adding that Bawa should hand over to Abdulkarim Chukkol, director, operations in the commission.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office,” the statement reads.

“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

” Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the director, operations in the commission, who will oversee the affairs of the office of the chairman of the commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
