Good day captain, i have gone through the administrative line of aviation sector though i got a diploma and also a fresh graduate of B.sc Geology but i'll love to be a pilot. What are the procedure that i need to go through before i get license to start my training in any aviation school abroad especially US and how can i get a scholarship?
Note: i have passion for this since when i was a kid.

You will have to search for flight schools to fit your budget. Scholarship is a bit tricky.

LOL, I'm still a first officer oh, but I claim Captain in Jesus name.

Not a good news for Airbus then undecided

Yup. Boeing keeps on racking up more orders at airshows more than Airbus.

Doing great!...so....moving on! Just before touch down.... the big planes seem to be going at a speed of just above 0 mph/kph.... soooo slowww that one would wonder if you pilot guys are in the cockpit...or in the lounge chilling with the babes hostesses! But the moment the plane hits the runway....wow... then one can realize how fast the plane was really travelling. Now for your 777 about what is the slowest safe speed before touchdown?..... and on touching down..... why all that big engone sound comes after if the plane was not travelling faster than the speed of sound?
.
For my baby, minimum approach speeds could be around 140 knots, anything lower could mean danger, remember Asiana 777 crash in San Francisco, the pilot came in slow the rest is history.

Touch down around 135knots, the noise is because of what the engine is doing so you can land safely grin

And we don't chill with hostesses on board, take off and landing are very crucial.

I'm not too surprised by that because servicing an A380 entails spending millions of $ in airport upgrades just to accommodate the aircraft. Especially for many African countries, it's not worth it.

Very true especially when other new aircraft don't require any significant airport upgrades. The A380 project may not last long.

I know you prefer to fly a two-engine aircraft - the B777 - but would you fancy flying a 4-engine aircraft like the B747-8 or the A380?
Hmmmm, this na jamb question oh.
If I have the opportunity, it would be the A380 it's an engineering marvel just that it's future get as e be because of newer long range twin engine aircraft from boeing and Airbus are racking up more orders than the A380.

I was doing 80 VFR, A2A Accusim Cherokee180 today from DNMM to DNIB (FSX) in a nasty weather I created. After climbing above 7,000ft and the weather became clear with sun ahead my little boy asked me this funny question; don't you have an aircraft fm like car stereo where you listen to music and all that stuff? cheesy

I said well, the only radio you can listen to out there is the one you hear all the annoying noise from ATC but I am going to ask someone who knows better.

So oga Boeing 777, do you have a gadget in your B777 where you listen to music when flying ? grin

I know it is not in any of the trainer aircraft I know.

Sadly no.

It's against company policy to do so in the cockpit. cry

If I'm in the crew rest area I can.

And what was your little boy doing in the cockpit at that time? Have you not heard of sterile cockpit? >:

Hmmm.... not moving on! ...it never dawned on me until now that high altitude/thin air can affect flying! So is Bole different in that take off is more difficult than landing? Bole....taking off... I guess wind direction/speed...weight of cargo etc are all factored in deciding your lift off speed. Is altitude/air density a factor?....or you as a pilot just know you have to burn more fuel to lift off?

LOL grin First time you are not moving on.
Because of the nature of the airport, the approach is could be steep.

Altitude, windspeed and direction are also very crucial. These are things we consider at the flight planning stage, so you know you gonna stress the engines abit.

Igwe please....can the pilot have his space?...and you create yours? Moving on.... taking off or landing.... which is more challenging?.... and in your experience which airstrip you find to be the most challenging and why?

Landing is more challenging.
. Bole international airport, the airport is on a very high altitude, so you require more fuel to take off that's from my experience most of the other airports we fly into are pretty straight forward.

Morning capt. Boeing777pilot... Quick pondering question.. What's the minimum thrust applied when landing or before touch down, I use 170..though it may depend on the weight.. Secondly... Do NAV need radio coordinate to work properly? Noticed I kinda veered off course last time I tried landing with NAV only but GPS approach seems to work perfectly.

Minimum thrust is not fixed, it depends on several factors during approach.

Yeah

Moving on!.... I learned from a pilot that the bigger planes have a very robust power supply system.... and the battery backup system is no joke.If true... how possible is it to harness the electrical power from retired non airworthy planes to provide electricity for communities? ...just a thought!

First part is true.
About converting it for community use, I really can't say cos I don't have expertise in that area.

Just wondering!

Boeing 777 is a hige plane mehn.

Just a quick one; Air bus and boeing which is better in the air?

In a flight sim FXS I noticed that boeing (737-800) have simpler controls compared to Airbus A320

Can you tell us what you think about the two aircrafts

If it's not Boeing,
I'm not going.
Every Boeing Aircraft is a hit back to back
From Boeing 737 to 747 to 777 to 787

Hmmmm..... sounds like a PR response! Sure!...the reason may be unlikely.... but in recent years we learned of pilot hijackings and taking planes on suicide runs. With this in mind we must consider the possibility of pilot injuries in the cockpit. That aside... the question remains the same.... are air hostesses or any crew member trained to operate communication equipment in such an emergency?

For my kind of flights, we have extra pilots, where that is not the case, there are protocols to ensure the aircraft lands safely.

Doing very well!...moving on!... now let's say the ehmmm...captain and co-pilot?...the two guys flying the plane... what if while over mid ocean while chilling in the lounge they got into a fight over an air hostess and knocked each other out....are air hostesses or maybe one ...trained to operate the communication system and follow instructions from traffic control/whoever?... if not can the plane be remotely controlled and safely brought down?.... or maybe we passengers would be directed to ehmm... reach for the parachutes under the seats and decide when to bail out?!
We take the safety of our passengers seriously so
That's highly unlikely sha.

The captain and the co-pilot, who actually steers the plane?

It's shared for example if captain handles take off, copilot handles landing and vice versa.

At different points during the flight, they exchange control of the aircraft.

The captain only assumes unilateral control in the event of an emergency or difficult situation.

But you said you work 20 days a month, and you're on standby the rest of the time. Is there a different schedule for married pilots?

When you have to do really long flights like dxb to jfk for example, do you get to sleep or you have to stay up the whole time? What happens if you doze off?

Can you call in sick when you're already booked to fly? Or you have to go to work regardless ?

Yeah we work around 20 days per month could be slightly less or more that's just an average.

If I'm unable to fly due to illness or other cogent reasons, I will be given time off so some else who is on standby is called up to replace me.

There's no different schedule for married pilots, the ones without Bae spend their free time on other things.

For intercontinental flights, assuming it's a 14 hour flight , a set of pilots fly the first seven hours, another set does the remaining 7 hours.

Good day Bro...., I'm a prospective pilot student as I have contacted some academies in south Africa and by God's grace, I'm hoping to start by August.

Now, my major concern is that, I dropped out of university 3years back and I'm just afraid maybe issues of Bsc will be a barrier when I finish my training in terms of job offer.

Secondly, I wish to do my PPL and Night Rating training in South Africa and then continue my CPL/IR in either UK or US....I want to know if this will be possible and will not be a stress.

Please kindly advice me.

thank you!

You are good to go sir.

The BSc will only become an issue IF (God forbid) you don't get a job after your training and want to switch career.

If you can afford it, you can get your CPL anywhere.

All the best.

Very good answers!....moving on! Taking off .... from a pretty short runway.... I guess you have to consider the weight of the cargo. How do you know how much you have to power up to take off? Do you guys guess and hope and pray that the plane would take off?.....especially coming back from the US when passengers try to fetch back America.

Ermmm, my baby the B777 has it's minimum runway length based on the maximum take off weight. If the airport doesn't meet our minimum standard, we don't fly to that airport. Simple.

Moving on!...... just before getting ready to take off or land...you pilots send your air maids hostesses to tell passengers to shut off their cell phones/laptops and other electronic devices. Do the signals from these devices....in this digital century... really interfere with the plane's communication?....or is it just a ehmm....big fat lie they be telling while watching the passengers in the eye?!

Yes we do. If you fly often, you will most likely hear the pilot say "cabin crew prepare passengers for takeoff or landing.

Yes it causes interference so you can put it in offline mode until the seat belt signs are off. Some of our aircraft support in flight WiFi so devices are not necessarily a bad thing.

Oga Boeing777 let me add a little to that, correct me if I am wrong; Pilots do 3 things when flying; they Fly, communicate and Navigate?

At times visibility level may be less than 100meters lols cheesy

Instrument Landing System (ILS) becomes a key when you are in such situation to align you with the runway from xx miles and YY high.

In a challenge in FSX, Monsoon approach, I discovered that I had to do 100% exactly what the ATC said in order to land the bird,....If that is truly what you guys see up there? piloting is not for the faint heart shocked

grin yes boss.
You are largely correct.

How much and how long does it take to train a pilot to standard and how much does a pilot earn generally, both here and abroad. As there some kind of discrimination between foreign trained pilots and home trained.. Also is Challenger and eeeehhh... (I forgot oo) only for private jets...?

Hmmmmm, I ve got plenty questions ooo.. No vex

Budget around 10m, training time frame PPL to CPL is usually around two years, type rating maybe six months.

Salary scales differ by airlines and country

Don't know about the discrimination sha

Yeah, challenger is for private jets
