In the past when wages were low, how much were the political office holders & appointees like governor, LGA Chairman, state legislators and LGA Councillors receiving as their own pay. If you do not know go and find out then compare with the situation in Nigeria today. What I am talikng about here is not just increasing minimum wage for workers.

I am talking about having COMPARATIVE wages for expected productivity and relative value creation by all CATEGORIES of workers for the SAME government, whether they are civil servants or political office holders.
If you still do not understand what I am talking about go and find out the minimum wage in the US and the salary of a Senator and Congressman compared to Nigeria's N18,000 vis-a-vis N29 million


Sir, I have checked and the min wage in the US is roughly 18kusd to about 180k usd, but what does that have to do with Insecurity? .....Maybe if you can express your thoughts coherently I may be able to follow your line of thoughts. I suspect you are a government employee or career politician and I ask you.....are civil servants giving value for the current wages? You need to think big as an administrator and a leader before you can understand what I say in this regard. Remove your mind from the worker and slave mentality. I think civil servants current earn too much for the value they give at the moment.


You must be really shallow in your thoughts to give example of people sorting out refuse and "hustling" for hard work yet you talk about absence of values in the society. What kind of "hustle" do you think those guys are doing? - borderline crimes Such that they are willing tools for political THUGGERY and murder when needed for some crumbs out of their own cake thrown at them by the likes of Fashola and his party's "field agents"


I have given the example of the lower echelon of the society who fall well below the poverty level to demonstrate that crime is not the only way to survive. Ask any grassroot person around you. The boys who break in sweat to eat will never be found in political thuggery and note recycling of refuse as I have mentioned is not borderline crime, there is dignity in Labour and that is the message most youths of today do not understand. The political thugs consists of lazy youths who most times want to sit and wait for manna from Alausa. They are ones you see on street corners at working hours smoking and drinking and womanising. The labourer in ketu market has no time to get involved with politicians.


Please tell us why any RATIONAL person will want to go to university pay Fashola's 250k tuition fees for four years to start "hustling" on Olusosun refuse dump when he can be a party "field agent" till he becomes LGA Councillor with almost 300k salary guaranteed for contributing absolutely NOTHING of value to our society's well-being. In case you do not know the eligibility requirement to be a LGA Councillor is "attended Secondary school" and 25 years of age.

Think of it , the private and informal sector accounts for the highest number of our workforce.......not government. The are a million and one ways to eke a living outside government. Not everybody is bent on living off government hence who cares what the Councillor or political office holders earn? It is not a contributory factor at all in the current level of insecurity. Not all of us aspire to be field agents and political appointees. you can make better money in the private sector (aside the money they steal in political office). The US you mention does not have career [/b]politicians as we do have in Nigeria. Only a civil servant or career politician will be moved by the disparity in earnings of political appointees and it just shows the deeply rooted resentment you have for them....are you a civil servant or a career politician?

On the issue of security, you are looking simply at the SYMPTOM, rather than looking at the CAUSE, which is rampant UNEMPLOYMENT and even for those employed their INSUFFICIENT wages based on the miserable N18,000 minimum salary. Fashola and his LGAs are mostly responsible for the cause of insecurity in the state. If & when he employs PROFESSIONAL teachers, doctors, nurses, school/clinic/hospital cleaners, administrators and pays them a COMPARABLE wage with all those political jobbers in the SAME employment of the LASG, including himself, Speaker Kuforiji, other legisLOOTERS etc, you will see insecurity reduce as it is in all those oyinbo places where Fashola's FAILURE along with Thief'nubu in the past 15 years have chased many able-bodied & intelligent Lagosians to hide

Sir, I boldly say to you that if minimum wage goes up to 100k there will still be insecurity. Unfortunately you have not identified the REAL CAUSE of insecurity which is a total breakdown in our social system (lost values) . I say so because in the past Govt wages were low and yet the young ones would either learn a trade or go to school. How many young ones today know that hard work is the key to success? Are you then insinuating that government workers who are paid poorly are the ones stealing and robbing? They make be bribe takers but not generally thieves.

The real cause of robberies in Lagos is NOT poverty let no man deceive himself - there are many people who hustle every day in this town despite the odds and have not resorted to crime. Go to Olusosun refuse dump and see young boys trying to get a life, go to Lagos island and see young women trying to hustle and get a life, go to mushin, oyingbo and alaba see young men whom this system has let down trying to eke a good means of livelihood. Many of the younger generation want to drive big cars , wear designer clothes and flirt around with women , they join gangs and end up using the short cut i.e crime.

Do you know the number of people who troop into lagos every day because of the opportunities this state offers? are you telling me LASG should employ them all? comon.... the solution to crime is to fight it and make sure people do not get away with committing crimes, second thing is to fix power and basic infrastructure to enable local businesses thrive.

Finally,Minimum wage used to be a federal affair but even as at today the states draw their own min wage from the centre. You seem to be hard on the wages and that makes me suspect you work for govt. If you work for govt you should bury your head in shame because civil servants including the police account for 90% of our problems in Nigeria!

1. Public Water supply is not piped with the domestic pvc pipes you see in your home they require planned major supply lines that will go into major areas for distribution.

Its practically impossible to put supply lines in those areas because our people have built as usual without common sense and regard for any town planning laws. gymer: Thank you for your civil response. I I know Lagos pre 1999. I voted Fashola in 2007. Due to his performance in 2007, myself and family voted him in 2011. But since he started his second term, he has not live up to my expectations. I live in the mainland. Kosofe LGA. I am telling you that a city like Lagos should not have problem with the provision of portable water in any of its part. But in today's Lagos, that is a big task. There are no good roads in Lagos. Don't forget that Lagos is not just Island, VI, Ikoyi and Lekki. Even the so called VI and Ikoyi, they don't have good drainage system. When it rains, the whole place will turn to a lagoon. Am saying we have a lot to be done in Lagos. I do not belong to any political party though I voted for AD and ACN in the previous election. I want Fashola whom I voted for in the last election to tackle the problem of infrastructural deficit in Lagos instead of dinning with ex PDP thieves.

look at this,they v striked a lot of times in d past(9 months,6 months,5 months,3 months,and currently six months),that s really sucidal,from d previous strikes,the infrastructure of our schools hasnt that improved,and our schools are still rated lowly in africa and d world..each time they strike,they always fought toe to toe with d fg....and now again,we are not sure they wont even strike in a year or two again...they are hindering the education sector while claiming they want to improve it...my point is ur support of ASUU would have been fair if they are striking for d first time.
i hope nxt year,when ASUU go on strike again,u will be here supporting them as this....
