alright the annexation of Crimea in 2014 was a pragmatic approach by Russia, after the U.S engineered coup which displaced the then president Viktor Yanukovich.

Allowing a western induced leader in Ukraine would be a disaster for Russia, their access to the black sea would be cut off also their naval base would be history, no country would sit and watch it's national security and critical assets become useless. Especially not a powerful nation like Russia. U.S would do the same even worse unless you want to be insincere. Do you know up till today since the Cuban missile crisis in 1963, Cuba is still under naval blockade by the U.S. since 1963.
