diegwu01: That last part of your post got to me like you have no idea. Outside the shores of Nigeria we are orderly, law abiding, contributing members of society. We come back home, to our own land, the land we will leave for our children and behave like total animals with no respect whatsoever for the law, the environment or other citizens. Never ceases to blow my mind. 1 Like 1 Share |

lalanice: I agree the story doesn't add up in the sequence it was told but for one, the writer didn't say everything happened in that order and two, the story can be rearranged to kind of make sense. Dude could have arrived with the bag and attacked her with the knife and she peppersprayed in defense but we all know pepper spray has nothing on a long knife. After having lost blood, she could have passed out (but was still alive) and he tried stuffing her in a suitcase at which point he was caught and she was rushed to a local hospital where she died. As for the lonely street, c'mon, even in Lagos here, we have streets that are that lonely. |

“CAN calls on the National Assembly to compile the list of all organisations that Nigeria belongs to and all the treaties signed with a view to dropping all the religious ones. “That we declare the inability of the state governments to pay workers’ salaries and allowances as and when due as unacceptable and call on the federal and state’s governments to work together to address this.” I agree with the bolded. Drop ALL religious ones. Nigeria is a secular state so we have no business as a nation belonging to or signing treaties with any religious organization. |

bayulll011: Either you don't live in Lagos or you are just negative for negativity sake. For the traffic; asides the fact that big, busy cities always have to contend with major traffic situations, the most serious traffic grid lock right now is caused by the tankers that regularly ply (and park on) Funsho Williams avenue on their way to A papa. Why are they there? Because the Federal government is currently working on their usual route (Oshodi-Apapa express) so for now, the trucks and trailers and tankers and containers have to use Funsho Williams avenue as an alternative route and anyone who lives in Lagos knows that is the state's central route for movement between the mainland and island (with third mainland bridge being the one alternative). These tankers and containers are even damaging the roads and bridges because they weren't made for taking those kind of weight regularly. If you should blame anyone, blame the Federal government for only now deciding to fix Oshodi-Apapa expressway. Electricity? Are you kidding me? Since when has it been the state government's responsibility to generate electricity for the citizens of the state. Even if Am bode decides to start working on power generation for the people of Lagos state, you think it is something that would take thirty minutes to complete? The funny thing is that if he does, people like you would be the first to wail that it is a white elephant project. Waste disposal? Don't even get me started on that one. Recently the state government came up with a streamlined waste disposal/management system. You know what people did? They kicked against it, calling it another way for government to take money from them. People have been trying to game waste disposal systems in this state since I can remember. The Lagos state government recently placed dumpsters on busy roads and at busy intersections around the state and you know what people are doing? They are walking long distances to dump their refuse in those dumpsters just to avoid paying for waste management to evacuate their refuse. It is not uncommon now to see someone dragging large sacks of refuse down a long stretch of road just so he/she can dump it in the state dumpsters for free and avoid paying for waste disposal. How is this the state government's fault? One just can't win with you guys! Your point on infrastructures is so empty of substance that I won't even bother refuting it. On education and health, I certainly agree that more needs to be done by the state government in both sectors. However, I also realize that improving current systems and infrastructure costs money and it's not like education and health services provision are the state government's only responsibilities. Regardless, I would charge the state government to make both high priorities as they are important to the life and well-being of the citizens of Lagos state. |

tiredoflife: Do you know how much waste those guys at the waterfront generate on a daily basis and dump into the lagoon, which eventually constitute environmental hazards and health challenges? Would you ask your child to live in a lagoon front shanty? Why then are championing for someone to live in ramshackle dwellings that constitute hazards, are unregulated and are at a high risk of total destruction with resultant loss of lives if a marine natural disaster occurs? If you want to champion something, champion a better way of doing things instead of asking that things continue to be done in the terrible way they've always been done. 1 Like |

First off, I have a pretty strong feeling these ones were paid to protest. Trust me, na only person wey chop belleful dey get energy make noise. On the other hand, even if these aren't paid protesters, why are Nigerians such backward people, so resistant to positive change? Ban okada - protest; as if okada is used as a means of transportation in advanced countries. Ban roadside hawking - protest; even though they know that it poses a risk to their lives and health and occasionally people masquerade as hawkers to rob other people and perpetrate evil. Destroy illegal structures - protest; forgetting that these structures are in the way of the states master plan and in quite a few cases constitute environmental and physical hazards. Look, if you want to remain backwards, go back to your village and remain backwards there. Don't come to a city and try to live unregulated village life. Funny thing is even if you move to your village, development will still come knocking at your doorstep so better just get with the program. 2 Likes |
